For Every Speech Pathologist!
When I started school, my instructor made us buy the book for class. I am so very thankful she did because I have since placed tabs throughout the entire book. There are listings for formal tests, informal tests/screeners, and good examples for data sheets. I love this book and have seen many colleagues with this book as well. I would definitely suggest to speech pathologists at any level of your career to consider purchasing this book. Very helpful!

Hands down one of the best texts I own
Purchased for an SLP course this summer. It was on of the best written texts I've encountered.I highly recommend it to anyone.

Extremely informative
The book is very detailed with information about the diff types of aphasias and other neurogenic disorders. It is a must have for an SLP student or SLP!
I gave it four stars just because it isn't the easiest textbook to read. The way the material is presented is very complex.

Very helpful workbook
We are finding this book very helpful as my husband recovers from a brain tumor and stroke.He has expressive aphasia, and our insurance isn't paying for any therapy.This gives us some exercises to do, and helps me see what areas he is having more problems with.

Good workbook !!
The author is a forerunner in aphasia.My speech therapist have me the exercises, just like the workbook.

Aphasia results from a stroke. My aphasia is different (did not a result from stroke). The workbook is very simple for me. But another friend who has her husband had a stroke, said that the exercises really help him.

Be Your Own Speech Therapist with This Book
Around my little Texas town, speech therapists are scarce as hen's teeth.But my mother is recovering from a massive stroke, and she needed the speech therapy we couldn't find for months.

Workbook for Aphasia was and is my solution.We've used it for almost two months, and her progress has been better with this workbook than with the speech therapist we finally found.In fact, the workbook is so comprehensive that the therapist uses it in addition to her own materials.

What would I improve?Very little, except to include more intermediate materials.It seems to go very quickly from easy to very sophisticated, but we need more exercises in the middle or not-quite-so-easy range.

I'm glad we had this book available for the two months when we had no speech therapist to help.It's been effective!

Great Workbook for Aphasia
My husband suffered a stroke on October 1st and initially received speech therapy, however upon returning to our small city we found there were no speech therapists available within a 200 mile radius.
We ordered the Workbook for Aphasia and were delighted with the quantity and quality of the exercises in the book.The Workbook for Aphasia: Exercises for Expressive And Receptive Language Functioning (William Beaumont Hospital has been a tremendous help to my husband and he can now carry on a normal conversation with very little problem finding words.
The exercises in this book are of equal or greater quality than those of a professional speech therapist.

Useful Resource Book
I am a speech/language pathologist who has used many sections of this book during therapy sessions.There are verbal expressive sections as well as written exercises.I have adapted sections to use in group therapy sessions.I find this book very useful and would recommend it to any working SLP or family member working at home with a person recovering from stroke and aphasia. ... Every neuro speech pathologist should have this book!
I was introduced to this book during my CFY and felt it was the best resource for working with aphasics.The activities start at word level and gradually increase in length and complexity, making it very easy to track progress. Very useful exercises
My wife has been using this and other workbooks, after a stroke last month.I showed this workbook to her speech therapy teacher and the teacher said it was a good one and would be very useful to do.We have been going through it.
Therapy teachers like to go to a section that challanges the paitent, but we are also doing the other sections as general exercise.

A Mind of My Own
An excellent book to understand Aphasia, one that an individual might not think is interesting, yet is fascinating.Aphasia was a word I did not know. Strokes and brain injuriesoccur too often for us not to understand them, both from the point of view of the caretaker and the caregiver.

Indomitable Will by Elmer West
I'm posting this review of my daughter's book for my friend Elmer West, who has no email: This book is the detailed, personal account of Harrianne Mills' recovery from serious physical injuries and devastating brain damage following a motorcycle accident in Greece in May 1985. She was rushed to the hospital, quickly examined, declared to be dead and sent to the morgue. Only then was it discovered that she was in a coma. The coma lasted only 12 hours but her recovery took an agonizing year as she slowly began to recognize family members, remember her own identity and learn again how to walk, talk, think and read. Harrianne's recovery was the result of good medical help, much of it related to the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, and the loving care of her mother through most of that staggering journey toward normalcy. Beyond everything else, it was due to her indomitable will to get well. She tells her own story in stark detail, buttressed by medical records and input from family and friends. For twelve years before the accident she was a college professor of classical languages. Now she is on the staff of the Pacific Graduate School of Psychology. Important reading for building an "aphasia-friendly" world
Aphasia is an invisible disability. It has a profound impact on people's lives. This book is the first one I have seen that discusses the challenges of aphasia in the words of people who are living with it. If you are trying to wrap your head around the meaning of aphasia or want some insight into that world, read this book! It is written in plain English, free of jargon or professional language, with lots of life stories that illustrate the major points.
