5-0 out of 5 stars All Arthritics Need This Book
As a young woman in the 1970's my doctor told me he could not help me with my arthritis. That I should go to the library and get a book called,
"Arthritis and Common Sense" by Dale Alexander. I purchased a copy. Followed the plan and was up and about in 6 weeks! I have been able to manage my arthritis for 40 years by following this advice. Now I buy copies and send to my friends that are having a struggle. I always hope and pray that they will get as much benefit from it as I have. I am so glad that it is still available at amazon.com.

I have one thing to add in my experience about taking the codliver oil. If you take it at night on an empty stomach before going to bed, you will not have to deal with belching or burping the fish oil all day. That makes it much more tolerable to take on a daily basis.

I can't give my review, because I haven't rec'd my books yet.I've contacted both sellers. One seller has been extremely helpful, and is resending the book this week. However, I haven't received a return email from betterworldbooks.

This has been a very frustrating, month long ordeal.I'm anxious to receive the ( 2 ) copies of Arthritis And Common Sense, so I can share the information with people who have arthritis.

This book saved my life! I highly reccomend it! 20 yrs ago when I was 30 I could barely walk. I was always in so much pain... every dang joint in my body! Now I am totally healthy at 50!!! The book does talk about exercise...not to do it unless your joints are oiled!! It would be like starting a car without oil...the moving parts would be damaged. Exercise when you're healed! Follow the guidelines in this book & your joints will be oiled! It worked for me! I just wonder where I would be today without my dad giving me this book 20 yrs ago.

Whether or not his theories are scientifically correct, the advice in this book produces great results. ... Read more

Excellent book to help understand and treat arthritis with antibiotics. A must read along with The New Arthritis Breakthrough.
This therapy is nothing short of a life-saver. It has taken me from feeling like I was going to die to living life.

5-0 out of 5 stars 'Solving the Puzzling Problem of Arthritis' is a must.
This book was bought for the wife of the purchaser, who writes:
I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, and this book has been invaluable to me. It is easy for the lay person to read and understand, and covers areas not addressed in other publications. Moreover the authors have suffered with rheumatiod disease themselves, which enables them to address the problems faced from a very personal and realistic perspective. They also provide down to earth hope, not doom and gloom or senseless fantasy. The search for doing something constructive about my disease, instead of taking such lethal drugs as Methotrexate and learning to 'manage my pain',led to the discovery of The New Arthritis Breakthrough' by Dr.MacPherson Brown and Henry Scammel, which any sensible person with RA and associated diseases, should read. Luckily I found a doctor who treats RA (and other such conditions) with the low dose anti-biotic protocol promoted so successfully by Dr MacPherson Brown. Unfortunately, here in Australia, this Protocol is mostly ignored by rheumatologists, so it was with great delight that I found someone who knew what I was talking about and was willing to give me the treatment I felt sure was going to give me back a life. I improved from nearly being a complete invalid requiring help to dress etc.(not to forget being in constant pain) to being able to look after my grandson! My doctor encouraged me to comtinue searching for other intelligent books on the disease and treatment, so I searched the selection in Amazon's list and found 'Rheumatoid Arthritis, the Infection Connection' by Katherine M Poehlmann, which further confirmed that such diseases are often infection based and can be alleviated by the anti-biotic protocol, with no side effects or distortions. Then my husband found 'Solving the Puzzling Problem of Arthritis' by Pat Ganger and Carol Lange. I applaud those women for their persistence and fortitude in both researching so deeply, and in confronting the medical profession with their results. Having read this book with joy I took it to my doctor, who also found it medically informed, well documented and exceedingly useful, with some more recent discoveries included. I had had a bad fall which had put me back and reactivated the disease a little. After some eight months pain free I seemed to have hit a brick wall. This book discussed the anti-biotic Azithromycin, which can be used in such situations. My doctor administered a boost with both oral (Zithromax)and IV and the results have been most efficacious. Once again I am almost pain free and living a real life. I cannot thank the authors enough. Anyone with a rheumatoid disease should not only have this excellent, truthful book in their own library but make their doctors read it. Thank you. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Dissatisfied
I received my "used - good" order - "Maximizing the Arthritis Cure" today.I would NOT say it is in "good" condition.Bottom right corner looks like a dog chewed it up, pages are highlighted, and there is personal information handwritten on the back page, that probably someone doesn't want there.Definitely not worth the money!!If it had listed as "used - fair", I would not have been surprised at the condition, except for the personal injfo on the back page.

5-0 out of 5 stars Young and old will benefit.
My elderly aunt has been plagued with arthritis for years and hasn't
always been willing to try alternative treatments. As her pain
progressed we convinced her to try the glucosamine and condroitan
blends. She is seeing substantial improvements! Our daughter is taking
it as a way to heal her back injuries due to an accident. She no
longer needs those heavy duty pain killers. Buy both of Theodosakis'
books and see for yourself....Treat arthritis naturally and see how
much better you feel without those pain killers that make your mind
fuzzy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worthwhile and perhaps more
This is the requisite "book biz" follow-up to their earlier book, The Arthritis Cure: The Medical Miracle that Can Heal, Reverse, and May Even Cure Osteoarthritis (1997), which I'll also report on here, treating bothbooks as one.My initial reaction was, this is either a public service ora hustle.Written by three different laureled academics and obviously puttogether by committee, the earlier book was a big time best seller andoccasioned this sequel. Most of the diet advice was like something I hadread twenty years ago.The exercise program ditto. The use of glucosamineand chondroitin was the real difference. In fact, the purpose of the bookcould be seen as legitimizing the use of these supplements in the treatmentof osteoarthritis.People bought the book in the hope that it would helpthem with their pain. They also bought the book so that they would bemotivated to try glucosamine and chondroitin. Many people understandablywould not try the supplements without the seal of approval provided by anauthoritative book like this. The question is-and it is the bigquestion-is their program any good, or is it just another feel good peptalk fronting for another bogus approach? I was a little uncertain sincethe book jacket was red, white and blue, and we all know the quote aboutpatriotism being "the last refuge of a scoundrel."

So I triedglucosamine and chondroitin and stayed fairly close to their overallprogram. Two years have passed and although I cannot say for certain, itis my belief that the supplements are valuable. At any rate, my arthriticknee is much improved.

In the follow-up book, the authors giveinformation on other treatments.

I have to say that I think they've donea positive service in writing these two books. The information abouthealing in general and about prevention and about the positive effects ofexercise and attitude are worthwhile. The authors may have made megabucks(or maybe they didn't), but I don't feel they ripped anybody off, on thecontrary.I am happy to be positive even though I still think "cure" isprobably too strong a word for what their program can do, although I onlyhave my own experience to go on.Their reports of the double blind teststhat have been conducted are good, but a long way from convincing proofthat glucosamine and chrondoitin and exercises can cure osteoarthritis.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank you for another remarkable book!
I'm not sure which book I enjoyed more; The Arthritis Cure or it's follow-up, Maximizing the Arthritis Cure.Either way, Dr. Theodosakis has done it again with an inspirational and helpful book.As a nurse, I recommended his latest book to my father who suffers from osteoarthritis inhis knees. He has experienced exceptional relief from taking theglucosamine and chondroitin and following the other steps of the plan.Hehas been able to almost stop taking ibuprofen other than when he has a badflare up. Now he is able to garden more comfortably and with betterbiomechanics and he is walking the dog on a regular basis again---the dogis grateful to the good doctor as well!I'm glad that more people in themedical community are coming around to recognize the power of thesesupplements.

5-0 out of 5 stars Enlightening positive info, gives one a new sense of control
I enjoyed reading your book it was very informatiive with excellent suggestions for well being. I have one problem Ihope you can help mewith. Because of years of taking medications for R.A. my stomach is verysensitive to many medications such as asprin etc. I find I am unable totake chondroiten & glucosamine without stomach distress. Unfortunatley, these two supplements are a major part of the arthritiscure.I would appreciate any sugges tions. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Important information
Although the website that goes with this book is far below par - the information offered in this book is excellent.Especially the supplements - who know that not all supplements have rigorous testing standards and that so very few supplements even have what they say they do.Great book, great advice.

5-0 out of 5 stars the arthritis cure
When I developed arthritis I went to the library to research it That's where I discovered the Arthritis cure Realizing that it was written by an orthopedic surgeon convinced me to buy a copy and follow his recommendation, and it worked This is my second or third copy as I have given them to friends troubled with arthritis.

4-0 out of 5 stars hope for the hopeless
This well written and authorative book has given me hope in my battle with arthritis.I'm following the recomendations and using the products mentioned in the book and am seeing positive results.Although my hips are probably to far gone to benefit from the program (per discussion in the book), I'm hopeful that I'll be able to protect the rest of my body from arthritis.

The section on the effects of prescription drugs alone makes this book worth reading. How many of you are aware that it is believed that Celebrex, an effective pain reliever, contributes to joint deterioration?
And, did you know that 16,000 people in this country alone die yearly from using NSAIDS?

The author reviews many commonly used drugs for arthritis relief and tells what works and what may be dangerous to you.

Stan Adamson 52 - osteoarthritis patient and double hip replacement candidate.

5-0 out of 5 stars Probably appropriate for every osteoarthritis sufferer
In the past ten months, I've burned through over $100k in insurance benefits, pursuing what conventional medicine offers for osteoarthritis. In that time, the disease has rapidly and progressively degenerated joints in my neck, shoulders and hips to a point that I am almost completely bed-ridden. Conventional medicine has not only done nothing whatsoever to aleviate the disease or the pain, it has addicted me to morphine and Duragesic (80 times more potent than street-level heroin). I turned to this book out of desparation.

The book states clearly and early on, that conventional medicine doesn't know what to do for osteoarthritis OTHER THAN to mask the pain with narcotics. The position of conventional medicine - i.e. most A.M.A. practitioners - is that osteoarthritis is a normal part of aging and once it occurs, there is nothing that can be done for it. This book contends that is absolutely wrong.

The book puts forward a very compelling argument that by following a nine point systematic approach, the heart of which is a regimen of daily glucosamine and chondroitin together with ASU, osteoarthritis can not only be stopped in its progression, but the symptoms actually reversed. The book is wonderfully and powerfully written and I think maybe, the best hope and option for osteoarthritis sufferers.

How am I doing since going onto the 9-part program espoused by the book? Well, I've only been on the glucosamine and chondroitin for about three weeks. I haven't been able, as yet, to locate a source for ASU, and I haven't yet implemented any of the the other 8 parts of the cure - though I will be doing so within the next few days.

Have my osteoarthritic sypmtom abated since I started the program espoused by this book? Sad to say, no. However, I am truly convinced that as I factor in the other 8 parts of the cure and give it another month, my pain will decrease, I will regain range of motion, and I will regain function again.

I believe this is an excellent book and very much worth a read by every sufferer of osteoarthritis.

4-0 out of 5 stars title is misleading, but advice is great
The title is unwisely chosen, close to a cheap shot, designed to get the attention of people in pain. This is unfair, and diminishes the total effect of the book, which is well researched and documented for a book for a lay audience. It is very helpful to have all the information on glucosamine and condroitin together, with an exact plan. Very useful is the attention paid to the lack of quality control in choosing nutritional supplements. Dr. Theo provides excellent advice on how to choose wisely, and how to avoid poor or deceptive formulations. ... Read more

Product Description
THE HIDDEN EPIDEMIC There are legions, literally millions upon millions of people, living in pain and suffering in silence and is the number one reason for doctor visits in the U.S. and nothing else even comes close. The number of people is staggering: 200 million who suffer pain on some regular basis, at least once a month, and 92 million people in unrelenting, chronic pain every day without letup seven days a week. Everything to be found regarding dealing with pain revolves around managing, coping with, or in some way learning how to live with pain. There is not a word to be found as regards how one might go about removing the cause of the pain because it has been accepted as fact that the cause is unknown. At present there are many books on the topic of pain in general, as well as numerous books on specific conditions, but not a single one of them reveals the underlying cause of the pain and how to remove it, eliminating the need for drugs. Until now. Harvey Diamond is the bestselling author of the enormously successful series of FIT FOR LIFE books. Harvey has one of the most compelling and moving human interest stories you will ever hear. While serving his country in Vietnam, as a 21 year old in 1966, he was exposed to Agent Orange which brought on a condition called peripheral neuropathy. Along with extreme, unrelenting pain, this condition also slowly deteriorates muscles until individuals are confined to a wheelchair unable to move. Most cases are fatal. In his landmark new book, LIVING WITHOUT PAIN, Harvey reveals to those 200 million people who are in pain and looking for answers, how they too can live life free of pain without having to rely on dangerous drugs. Harvey's engaging and light-hearted, reader-friendly writing style highlights this book which is brimming over with common sense information that changes people's lives. ... Read more

I was back to work in about 6 weeks and still feel great today, 5 years later, praise God; (I even cycle/commute over 20 miles)...while some ortho docs didn't offer me any hope of regaining my 100% of normal; only a lot of limitations, S. D. Stulberg gave me hope; the Lord gave me healing!

I credit this book with giving me the knowledge I needed to face this surgery with the right attitude. I'm a big coward and this book helped me alot. Need a hip?...go to a surgeon who won't give you a lot of heavy MD lingo and instead listens to and answers your questions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
I bought this book prior to hip surgery. It saw me all the way through the process, and I'm now doing the recommended exercises.I've had a super fast recovery, and credit the book so much that I purchased two more for my hippy friends.

2-0 out of 5 stars alternative to hip replacement surgery
I was looking for a book to guide me in postponing or avoiding hip replacement surgery. The title "The Active Person's Guide to Taking Charge"prompted me to buy this book, but I was disappointed in the book because so little of it was devoted to really taking charge of your physical situation so that you can strengthen your hip and achieve its maximum flexability.A better choice for those wishing to do everything in their power to avoid or postone surgery would be Dr. Klapper's book, "Heal Your Hips", which is also available from Amazon.com

5-0 out of 5 stars a must have
if you have arthitis of the knee or hip, this book is a must have. i had a total hip replacement four weeks ago, and this book was my pre and post op bible. the o.t. at the hospital saw me reading it and asked to borrow it. it will now be standard reading for all of her patients.
there are advances in joint surgery that have occurred since the book was published, but the general information is excellent. my new hip is ceramic on ceramic through an "anterior approach". at the time of publication, the author mentions both as future improvements. however, the pre and post op preparation, the patient experiences, and the overall handling of the subject are worth the price of admission. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars 10 years old and still usefull
I happened on a copy of this book recently and browsed it. As a fan of Life Extension Foundation, I knew that the concept was scientifically sound. You can still follow his recommendations today. There has been some progress since then, especially in the blood lab tests that are used today, but most internists and family physicians don't have a clue yet.Pain specialists might be just learning about fish oil and vitamin D.If you want to do something about your pain, he mentions that 9 out 10 people back then over 60 years were suffering from one joint or other. He is probably on the mark today as well. Why not think about what that one person who is not having pain might be doing right.I think I am close (age 61)but had to get cancer to change my life.
This book is very readable but has some medical terms that you might have to look up. ... Read more
