Product Description
Suzy and Nancy Goodman were more than sisters. They were best friends, confidantes, and partners in the grand adventure of life. For three decades, nothing could separate them. Not college, not marriage, not miles. Then Suzy got sick. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1977; three agonizing years later, at thirty-six, she died.

It wasn’t supposed to be this way. The Goodman girls were raised in postwar Peoria, Illinois, by parents who believed that small acts of charity could change the world. Suzy was the big sister—the homecoming queen with an infectious enthusiasm and a generous heart. Nancy was the little sister—the tomboy with an outsized sense of justice who wanted to right all wrongs. The sisters shared makeup tips, dating secrets, plans for glamorous fantasy careers. They spent one memorable summer in Europe discovering a big world far from Peoria. They imagined a long life together—one in which they’d grow old together surrounded by children and grandchildren.
Suzy’s diagnosis shattered that dream.

In 1977, breast cancer was still shrouded in stigma and shame. Nobody talked about early detection and mammograms. Nobody could even say the words “breast” and “cancer” together in polite company, let alone on television news broadcasts. With Nancy at her side, Suzy endured the many indignities of cancer treatment, from the grim, soul-killing waiting rooms to the mistakes of well-meaning but misinformed doctors. That’s when Suzy began to ask Nancy to promise. To promise to end the silence. To promise to raise money for scientific research. To promise to one day cure breast cancer for good. Big, shoot-for-the-moon promises that Nancy never dreamed she could fulfill. But she promised because this was her beloved sister.
I promise, Suzy. . . .  Even if it takes the rest of my life.

Suzy’s death—both shocking and senseless—created a deep pain in Nancy that never fully went away. But she soon found a useful outlet for her grief and outrage. Armed only with a shoebox filled with the names of potential donors, Nancy put her formidable fund-raising talents to work and quickly discovered a groundswell of grassroots support. She was aided in her mission by the loving tutelage of her husband, restaurant magnate Norman Brinker, whose dynamic approach to entrepreneurship became Nancy’s model for running her foundation. Her account of how she and Norman met, fell in love, and managed to achieve the elusive “true marriage of equals” is one of the great grown-up love stories among recent memoirs.

Nancy’s mission to change the way the world talked about and treated breast cancer took on added urgency when she was herself diagnosed with the disease in 1984, a terrifying chapter in her life that she had long feared. Unlike her sister, Nancy survived and went on to make Susan G. Komen for the Cure into the most influential health charity in the country and arguably the world. A pioneering force in cause-related marketing, SGK turned the pink ribbon into a symbol of hope everywhere. Each year, millions of people worldwide take part in SGK Race for the Cure events. And thanks to the more than $1.5 billion spent by SGK for cutting-edge research and community programs, a breast cancer diagnosis today is no longer a death sentence. In fact, in the time since Suzy’s death, the five-year survival rate for breast cancer has risen from 74 percent to 98 percent.

Promise Me is a deeply moving story of family and sisterhood, the dramatic “30,000-foot view” of the democratization of a disease, and a soaring affirmative to the question: Can one person truly make a difference? ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars "... I swore it with all of my broken heart."
"Promise Me" gives us the story of the relationship between Susan G. Komen and her sister Nancy Brinker, and how Susan's battle against breast cancer led to a promise by sister Nancy to do something to make things better for women facing the disease in the future. The fulfillment of the promise was the formation of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization.

The first several chapters describe the sisters' relationship, some family history, and the values that were instilled in them by their strong, supportive, and strongly service-oriented family. From an early age we see hints of attitudes that shape both of the women as they grow, mature, and become adult women, taking on the challenges of being wives, mothers, and participating members of their communities.

Susan's death marks a watershed moment in Nancy's life, and one that ultimately pushes her to fulfill her promise to Susan in the way she knew best: by raising funds to fight breast cancer. The Komen organization chose to attack breast cancer on several fronts: by providing badly needed information to newly diagnosed survivors (they established the first "800" number for women to call for information), by funding cutting edge research in causes and cures for the disease, by increasing awareness and fighting the stigma attached to breast cancer, and by providing assistance to those who need it in obtaining testing and diagnosis (75% of funds raised by local affiliates remains local).

As the book progresses, Nancy tells us further of other defining influences in her life: a strong relationship with a supremely supportive husband, Norman Brinker, who stands beside her, and guides her, as she takes on the fight against breast cancer on a personal level and on a professional level, as she establishes and grows the Komen organization.

The evolution of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization is described largely in summary style. Here is not a detailed, week by week historical account of activites, decisions, growth milestones, but broad brushstrokes of major events over the course of years. One might have hoped for a little more detail, but I know that as we look back over decades of our lives, it is often only possible to recall the broad trends.

At the end of each chapter is a section of ancillary material. Many, perhaps most of the sections are vignettes of portions of people's lives as they relate to fighting breast cancer. They range from a look at breast cancer treatments through the ages, to the story of a researcher who is stricken with a brain injury and fights back to make a breakthrough discovery. They are rich additions to the book and really provide another dimension, beyond the personal story that Nancy Brinker tells of herself and her sister.

If you are looking for a detailed history of the founding of the Komen organization, you will not find it in this book. If you are looking for an inspiring story of 2 sisters, one who leaves the world too soon, and the other who dedicates her energy to trying to prevent that from happening again to other sisters, then this book will fulfill that mission. It is more of a "light" autobiography of Nancy Brinker than a history of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely moving
I am still in the process of reading this book, however, what I have read is very moving.Very informative on the history of breast cancer and treatments.

5-0 out of 5 stars great book
quite excellent in helping me and my wife negotiate the rapidly growing body of information. From dagnosis to surgery to treatment takes 2 to 3 weeks. A lot has to be figured out in a very short time. This book proved a valuable resource. Some pain is minimized, but i am sure it is different for all. The book was worth everypenny.

4-0 out of 5 stars Important topic, well done, but...
I own this book and enjoyed reading it, even if I don't feel that I learned much of anything from it.It was comprehensive, well written, clearly explained aspects of life beyond the tense months of cancer treatment. All this was fine, but I've read a lot by now so don't know that I really needed it but am glad to have it by my bed anyway. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Very Comprehensive Book
Recommend this book to anyone looking for a real alternative to traditional medicine.Very detailed and comprehensive.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource!
This book is a must for people who want to educate themselves about cancer beyond the conventional "treat the symptoms" technique that conventional medicine employs. It addresses methods of detection that will not cause the cancer to spread. It addresses treatment that does not destroy the immune system. But most of all, it goes to the heart of the disease--why you have cancer--and explains treatment for the possible CAUSES of the disease in each person. For those who are in agreement or wish to explore some of the treatments described in this book, the trick is finding a center that will treat using these methods, and in being able to afford this type of treatment which is rarely, if ever, covered by standard medical insurance. These centers do not advertise and generally keep a low profile for obvious reasons.

3-0 out of 5 stars Would like to see an updated version
Sorry, meant to mark four stars.

I like that it has so much information all in one place, however much of the information in this book can be found on the internet (although with A LOT more work). This book gave me a much appreciated focus to my cancer research.

There are breakthoughs that the book does not cover (for example fungal infection) and it was written when the understanding of prions (the cause of mad cow disease for example)and their role in health risk was only beginning.

Would like to see a more updated version, almost 10 years old, a more recent version could only be better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Invaluable wealth of info!
With a working diagnosis of advanced ovarian cancer, this book gave me HOPE and DIRECTION. Statistics say: One in two men and one in three women will face cancer. IF POSSIBLE, be prepared in advance to know what course you would take. BUT, if you or a loved one are diagnosed with cancer, have courage! There are MANY choices BESIDES surgery, radiation and chemo.Better choices! This enormous book will educate you.

Don't miss the AMAS test on pages 702-705: an accurate blood test that can detect ANY cancer up to 19 months BEFORE conventional medical tests for cancer can find it!This test gave me GREAT PEACE of MIND as it ruled OUT cancer for me before my surgery to remove a grapefruit-sized endometrioma (NON-malignant). Praise the LORD!

5-0 out of 5 stars Knowledge IS Power
Im a 33 year old young woman, who was diagnosed with advance local breast cancer 5 months ago today (24 May 2001, date of diagnosis).I was fortunate enough to have a close friend in the US who know of this book, due to working with one of the doctors who are published.

This book has become my Bible and has literaly saved my life.Im sitting here tonight in the wee hours of the night to let you know that today I have no turmors and am living cancer free.Five months ago I have 4 tumors all at approx 4cm each, today they are all gone, by the grace of God and his direction led me to this book which in turn gave me the information, the wisdom and guaidence to get through this tragic disease that so many people, possibly thousands world wide die from.

God Bless the all those who contributed to the truth about cancer.I thank you.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Information - But Lots of Reading to Get Through
I did not watch the video yet, as I received the book and the video with my ReboundAir mini trampoline purchase (which I LOVE).

In reading the book, I agree with Ranat-ka, lots of babble to get to the point.

I definitely agree with the nutrition and exercise aspects, however, there is an alleged cure in the book toward the end, which I just don't buy.A reader cured his own cancer, a tumor the size of a vollyball with rebounding 30-60 minutes a day and nutrition? I would believe that if he went to Lourdes and received a miracle.

The book does a very good job at explaining cell types, their function and their failure. However, the book does not point out WHY these cells fail in doing their job. That is the millon dollar answer, which no one seems to have.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good information, but...
If you have a loved one get diagnosed with cancer, the news can be devastating. However, we live in an era of major cancer breakthroughs, some of which, no surprise, aren't approved by the FDA.In Alberta Canada, DCA is being administered to cancer patients because it turns on the mitochondria in cancer cells.Cancer cells tend to be immortal because they don't die. They don't die because they turn off the mitochondria, which regulates the lifecycle of cells.DCA can be bought on line but must be delivered outside the USA.DCA is used by clinics in Toronto Canada. It is said that DCA can be toxic to the liver if taken in too large of quantities.I don't know much more than this, however, the clinics in Canada certainly can keep you abreast on this.Another method is the John Kanzius technique which can cure any cancer by putting nanoparticles on in the cancer cells and spraying the cancerous region with radio waves. However, the government won't approve this technique. At Cedar Sinai Medical Center, Peter Julien has developed a way of microwaving the cancer and thus killing it that way. That has been very successful although not known by most people.Indeed, I was surprised that doctors in other hospitals don't mention it to their patients. Why?Good question.Another technique freezes the cancer. Finally, there is now a method to double up the chemotherapy while they filter the blood so that the cancer is destroyed and the body is not harmed by the chemotherapy. So, don't give up hope. There are several treatments available now that wasn't available before.

2-0 out of 5 stars Long, boring book to make just a few (good) points
Even though Al Carter makes some very good points in this book, it could have been written in under twenty pages.I had to skim through 145 pages of useless babble in order to extract the few main points, which are to eat only whole, unpolluted and unrefined foods (no surprise here), exercise on the rebounder, and keep a positive spirit. There--save yourself the bother of reading this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome book that exposes the truth about Cancer
A must read book if you or someone you know has Cancer. "The answer to cancer has been staring medical science in the face for at least a decade." The 2 hour video by the same name is a must see. I've watchedit at least 6 times!

5-0 out of 5 stars The TRUTH about CANCER
This book gives an eye opener to the truth about cancer. On the cover it says the answer to cancer has been staring medical science in the face for at least a decade. And the answer is cheap and simple. Therein lies the key. Yes, there is a simple & cheap cure to cancer. The video(2hrs), bearing the same name as his book, will blow your mind and will forever change your thinking about cancer. Demand that Amazon start carrying the video or maybe you can order it from inside the book ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars beyond expectations
I sent this to my sister and she left on a trip a day before it arrived and was gone for over a week and the book was returned. When I got ahold of customer service about it, they immediately re-sent the books express mail, and my sister got them the next day. What great service! I order a lot of stuff from Amazon, and I always have had excellent service.

I learned a lot that I did not know and confirmed information that I had previously read. It made me feel more in control of my disease and the effects of my treatment. The author's offer more service if needed and there are plenty of references available.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Cancer Battle Plan Sourcebook: A Step-by-Step Health Program to Give Your Body a Fighting Chance
A Cancer Battle Plan Sourcebook: A Step-by-Step Health Program to Give Your Body a Fighting Chance was a book I bought for myself along with Cancer Battle Plan to help when I was battling Lymphona. It was a great help to me. Since then I have given it as a gift to others that are fighting cancer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Empowering! Hopeful! DELIVERS HEALTH instead of more destruction!
Before purchasing them, a friend loaned me "A Cancer Battle Plan" and this "Sourcebook" and my health has been forever altered! I was diagnosed with Stage 1 Breast Cancer in the summer and after thoroughly investigating what oncology had to offer (further assault on my immune system and an almost certain expectation of MORE cancer in the future, I opted for the NATURAL AND VERY SUCCESSFUL treatment plan of detoxifying my system and altering my lifestyle to prevent further damage. I AM CANCER FREE without chemo or radiation --- and I'm healthy and more vital than ever!
I have been working directly with Health Quarters Ministries in Colorado Springs as well as local nutritionists and my health-promoting-chiropractor. I am more certain than ever: this is the way to go!! You're guaranteed better health!!

I now understand WHY organic foods are essential (pesticides on our fruits and vegetables react in the body like hormones, and breast cancer [as well as prostate and some others] is a hormone-receptor cancer. I UNDERSTAND the dangers we have allowed into our lives and I'm WILLING to exchange health for convenience --- our bodies are fearfully and wonderfully made to fight [all] diseases if we give it the right tools (nutrition) to be healthy!

BEFORE YOU CONSIDER TRADITIONAL [failing] MEDICINE --- GIVE THIS PROGRAM A "COLLEGE TRY" --- YOU WON'T EVER BE SORRY YOU DID!!!!

I strongly believe "ALTERNATIVE" therapies should be employed FIRST --- not after Western Medicine has failed (and it will ... )!

There is no "MONEY" in natural cures --- that's why they are not promoted on TV or by the medical field. "Follow the Money" if you want to be disillusioned and disappointed by all that so-called modern medicine has to offer. 4-0 out of 5 stars Enlightening Story
This story of one man's experience with the medical establishments approach to cancer treatment is very enlightening. It provides a basis for a cancer patient to determine what may be best for them in dealing with the disease. The update of the last section which is available on the web is a valuable addition to the information.

5-0 out of 5 stars Real case history which best motivates a brain tumor patient to fight and win
Ben Williams is an extraordinary man, against the ropes with few months to succeed or die, his research, great understanding, and above all the courage to have the distance to think rationally, allowed him to take the necessary steps to survive the deadliest form of brain cancer. His story is not only utmost educational, informative, written in a simple and interesting manner, but a real inspiration for escaping the paralysis of helplessness and instead fight to win!! A must read for any brain tumour patient,or caretaker, and beyond, for any cancer patient.Cancer patients and caretakers must not leave the doctor alone in the management of treatment,is imperative to take charge of the situation.Ben William's book is an example of how to achieve exactly that.
Roberto Rimeris, husband of a brain tumor survivor.

5-0 out of 5 stars The book that everyone with cancer should read.
If you have Cancer, read this book. The Author is a 15 year Brain Cancer Survivor who outlines what he did to enhance his chances to survive. He is a research psycologist who did all the research that most of us can't do ourselves and outlines it in the book. You need to read this book especially if you have Glioblastoma Multiforme, the most deadly form of Brain Cancer. He also has included his web site where he has updated his orginal work to incude the latest on new drugs and treatments.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have
I was diagnosed a brain tumor 5 years ago, it was removed 15 days later. I was astonished to find so much informations in this book I shoud have known from the very beginning that nobody knew or dare to share with me.
I strongly recommend this book for someone dealing with this problem (family, patients). The message of the book can be summed up as "Grab your illness yourself and fight". It also give hope which is invaluable although many things influence the outcome (each case is different). Nonetheless I was convinced (as a scientist myself) with the pragmatic approach of the author.

5-0 out of 5 stars An important book for scientists and lay people
Dr. Ben Williams is an excellent writer who provides a rare opportunity for readers to learn about his "terminal" cancer through a scientist's eyes.In short, he has already survived and thrived over 15 years after he received a diagnosis of a disease that was supposed to lead to a rapid trip to the undertaker. In part one, he shares a very personal view of his own round-trip to Hades. His wry sense of humor makes it enjoyable, even though we share his painful experiences in the hands of some physicians who are not going to win awards for bed side manners.Patients and their loved ones can be torn apart by the healing art of medicine that was meant to cure them, but Dr. Williams kept his dignity and his wits about him, allowing his survival. In part two, Dr. Williams explains why the medical system needs reform. This is an excellent review of some of the basic flaws of scientific medicine.Physicians be warned, Dr. Williams is an iconoclast with a razer sharp mind and first rate scientific credentials, even after being kicked in the head with a near fatal brain tumor. Many physicians who have not had the benefit of an inductive scientific approach may be surprised to learn new ways of examining data.Third, Dr. Williams shares information that your oncologist won't tell you, including alternative medicine, supplements, cutting edge treatments and sources of information.Throughout the book the layman is provided with helpful guidance that will enable the patient and his/her caretakers to make their own choices. The book is also important because Ben was a very patient mentor to me when I was an undergraduate studying experimental psychology at the University of California, San Diego, some 33 years ago.I have the greatest respect for him as a leading scientist and a teacher; and now I have an even more profound respect for him as a tough fighter, and a leader who used his scientific prowess to save his own life, and who then wrote about it to help save others. My bias in favor of Ben aside, this important book will probably change the way cancer is dealt with politically, clinically and scientifically. It is an inspiration to all of us because it shows that what makes the human brain truly amazing is its ability to not only recover function, but to actually improve itself as a result of trauma. They say, "Physician, heal thyself".Dr. Williams not only talks the talk, he walks the walk.Bravo! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good Info
This is a good book that details lots of information and possiblities. It needs to be updated as the treatment options are changing rapidly for this disease.

5-0 out of 5 stars Current
Not something I would read in front of a fire on a cold night for entertainment, but the best source of up to date material on the subject of the prostate.Compared to two other books this one is far and above the most detailed and concice. If you only read one book on this subject, this should be the one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dr. Marks on Prostrate Cancer
Dr. Marks' book was recommended to me by my Urologist just after he told me that I had prostate cancer. It is an excellent first book for anyone who has just learned that he has prostate cancer, as I did, or for a family member or friend who has just learned. For a little more detail, after reading Marks' book, one might read the book on prostate cancer by Dr. Patrick Walsh of Johns Hopkins. With those two books, I felt as though I had a good understanding of the background, pros, and cons of the treatments available. If one is leaning toward radiation treatment, he might also want to read a book written by a doctor who provides radiation treatment.

1-0 out of 5 stars Biased and inaccurate
While this book provides much information that is helpful and accurate, and in a good Q&A format, readers should know that the author has a clear bias towards surgery versus other approaches and includes some misinformation. For patients trying to get objective, unbiased information to make reasonable choices between RP (surgery), RT (usually brachytherapy for early stage), or active surveillance, this is not a helpful resource. In particular, the author appears unaware of the use of active surveillance for younger patients with low Gleason sum, low PSA, and early stage -- surveillance that, despite what the author says, does include biopsies every six months (preferably with more than 12 cores) as well as PSA and digital exam several times a year. There are better books and better information out there.Google the topic and find recent articles in Oncology magazine (October 2009).

5-0 out of 5 stars Best, most comprehensive book of its kind
Dr. Dollinger's book is the most thorough, up to date and easy to understand source of information for those dealing with cancer therapies. It is written in terms anyone can understand, even the most complex and difficult aspects of treatment are explained so that the patient and family can be informed and make good decisions. This increases peace of mind and assists in healing. It is an oasis of information, clearly and calmly presented, in a desert of fear and confusion perceived by many cancer patients. Use this book and get better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent gets better
The first edition of "Everyone's Guide to Cancer Therapy" was recommended to us some ten years ago and we decided to update to the 5th Edition. This volume contains nearly 50% more information on the advances in detection, treatment and prognoses of the various types of cancer. Not being a physician, I have found that the references are easily read and understandable. It provides insight on prevention and treatment.

Great strides are being made and this book gives inspiration and hope that our doctors will continue to attack cancer in all forms.

I recommend this reference book to all who want an authoritative source to understand the types and stages of most common cancers.

Higly recommend.Great to have around so when you have questions this book will answer them, as we often have questions when a doctor is not around to answer them. Sometimes we may may not want to ask a question well this book lets you find your answers in the privacy of you home. I had 2 previos versions and I preordered this one as the others were very useful and this one has been also.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book taught me to teach my patients
While working in a very large private hospital in Omaha, I worked in Radiation Oncology. Finding myself alone, without a nurse to teach me how to teach my patients, a friend suggested this book. I purchased it, devoured it and put the information to use, teaching my patients about treatment protocols, systems involved in their treatment process, in terms that they could understand. I recommended this book to many of them, they always returned to thank me for suggesting the book. CC

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
I purchased this book as a gift for my mother after she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. My mother is a strong woman, and she tried to cover up her fear after she was diagnosed. When I gave her this book, it brought tears to her eyes. After reading for a few days, she told me that the book helped her understand what her treatment would be like and what she could expect in the future. She was so encouraged by the personal testimonies in this book and it helped her confront her fears.I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for hope, encouragement, and insight on cancer and how it affects our lives.

5-0 out of 5 stars Chicken Soup book
As a three-time survivor of cancer, a friend gave me this book.I enjoyed it so much that I passed it on to another friend. Now I needed a new book for a terminal patient since I no longer had a co py.I know he will profit also from reading it.

5-0 out of 5 stars At Ease
There is a major theme that runs through everyones personal story .
No matter whatthe aspect there is a continual nervous feeling,no matter how brave the individual. This collection is compiled in in such a positive way that all the persons involved with their cancer and circumstances are similar. My cancer too.
Reading it at first was difficult but after the first few stories a sense of ease set in and they became meaningful.
As a person who generally avoids such books I did not put this one down. My thanks to my friend who turned me on to it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A lens called cancer
Even if you don't have cancer, you know someone who does. How can you understand them? Help them?Be the friend they need? You can start by reading this book and understanding what life looks like when viewed through the lens called cancer.

And lest you think that the book is full of morose and morbid stories, please know that this book will make you laugh and smile as much as it will make you cry; cancer seems to brings out an extraordinary range of emotions.

Understand this disease and understand better the people you love who face this disease.Read the The Cancer Book.

5-0 out of 5 stars It Takes A Courageous Village
I wish I was courageous as the people in this book. I am not. It was hard to read. But it takes more courage to write about it as these folks do. And much more than that, is just to face it straight up. All the while not knowing if the outcome would be in one's favor. That can make for an adventurous tale. And unlike a patient, a reader is rewarded for facing it. Because at the end we will find uplight, or tears.
Any book that makes you laugh and cry is wondrous indeed.
But it is the different depths of love that are revealed in this one.
Thank you for this worthy book.
As the youth say, love ya! ... Read more

Product Description

At some point in our lives, many of us will face the crisis of an unexpected illness. For parents, the fear, anxiety and confusion resulting from a cancer diagnosis can be particularly devastating.

When A Parent Has Cancer is a book for families written from the heart of experience. A mother, physician, and cancer survivor, Dr Wendy Harpham offers clear, direct, and sympathetic advice for parents challenged with the task of raising normal, healthy children while they struggle with a potentially life–threatening disease.

Dr Harpham lays the groundwork of her book with specific plans for helping children through the upheaval of a parent's diagnosis and treatment, remission and recovery, and if necessary, confronting the possibility of death. She emphasises the importance of being honest with children about the gravity of the illness, while assuring them that their basic needs will always be met.

Included is Becky and the Worry Cup, an illustrated children's book that tells the story of a seven–year–old girl's experiences with her mother's cancer.

More advanced than standard technology, Dr. Clark uses Syncrometer resonance to make astounding discoveries. They are all repeatable by anyone trained in this new science. Learn to avoid and destroy the cancer-complex using herbs and other low-tech methods to bring a cure, not just a treatment, for our most dreaded disease. Use electricity to boost your immunity with zapping, plate-zapping and homeography, all explained in this book. 4-0 out of 5 stars The Cure and Prevention of all Cancers
This book is way in left field.I read it front to back and then bought her book on how to cure and prevent all disease. There is a whole lot of informative material listed in this book; a lot of which is very scary. The idea that we are all living with parasites and terrible pollution is disturbing. Is it the truth?Use these books along with other information to help you decide on the best approach for you.I do not have cancer but I am checking my water in the house, checking my "heavy metals", and basically checking my overall health.

3-0 out of 5 stars Defective Book
The book came right away... all wrapped in shrink wrap.I threw away the mailer... and when I went to open the book a few days later, I found it was bound upside down and backward.I am reading it anyway... but it is very disconcerting to always have to open the back. However, the book is very worth while reading!Too bad she died.It reads like a murder mystery.Very interesting.

1-0 out of 5 stars An Outright LIE
I bought this (and other books in this series) when my mother was diagnosed with cervical cancer at age 54. I made the 'zapper' for her and got her to follow the instructions in the book. We were hopeful believers.

She died.

The book is a total and outrageous lie. Look into Max Gerson's therapy if you are looking for alternative medicine (he cured Albert Schweitzer, Nobel Peace Prize 1952, as well as other notables). I wish I had known about his theories instead of falling into this trap. It is shocking that this/these books do not have a worse rating. It is time to let the quack out of the bag. LOOK ELSEWHERE! Not conventional therapies (my mother suffered through chemo, radiation, and invasive radiation after the tumor kept growing in spite of the 'miracle cure'), but please steer away from THIS bunch of refuse. It has been four years since her death; this is not an aftermath-critique.

If you are looking for alternative treatments for cancer (and I applaud that - who thinks it is sane to pump your body full of toxins to kill something, and not have it kill the body, too?? oh, yeah...doctors and the AMA and drug companies... go figure) keep digging and find actual testimonials, scientific proof, history of successes, and you will have a better chance than with someone who thinks *all* cancers are caused by parasites. Maybe some, but be wary of anyone putting all their breads into the same oven to bake (I hate the eggs analogy - hens are the worse treated farm creatures in the world).

I wish you Good Luck on your journey.

o don't wear tight clothes
o utilize shoulder straps for support
o wear light bras
o never miss an appointment

Overall, the presentation is excellent.

1-0 out of 5 stars Some cancers disappear untreated, study finds
There are many people who cure (themselves) from cancer (and other diseases, for that matter). A few things they all seem to have in common:
They take responsibility for their health/sickness away from doctors or anyone else.
They get rid of negative feelings (like anger, grudge, helplessness and, most of all, by doing this, FEAR). In other words, they CHANGE their lifestyle (most of the time they also take control of what they eat - which is where this book comes in handy).
But most important (togheter with finding peace of mind):
They give their body TIME TO HEAL ITSELF!

Product Description
Recent research has shown that the mind can make a tremendous difference in not only the daily experience of living with cancer but also in the potential for overcoming it. In this groundbreaking book, Dr. Martin L. Rossman-hailed as 'one of the greatest healers of our generation' by Rachel Naomi Remen-shows cancer patients how to use imagery in specific ways that can help them in their fight against cancer. Imagery is a natural, efficient way of storing and processing information, and one that has powerful effects on both emotional states and physiology. And while imagery is not a substitute for medical, surgical, or other physical approaches to cancer therapy, scientific studies have proven that it complements and enhances those treatments in many important ways. In this first book of its kind, Rossman provides specific ways to use imaging in fighting cancer. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Find for Peace of Mind...
After buying the book, this was a great addition for complete guided imagery. This collection contains help from the day you first find out through your successful recovery.

2-0 out of 5 stars too much of the same thing
The 5 disks are pretty much all the same until you come to the last few minutes where they are more specifically directed towards different focuses.
I didn't really feel they were worth the investment

5-0 out of 5 stars It worked for me!
It is now 10 days since my second surgery for thyroid cancer.I diligently practiced Dr. Rossman's techniques in the weeks leading up to my second surgery and in the days since using the guided imageries on the companion CD (available separately). The difference between my second surgery and my first (a very similar procedure that I white-knuckled my way through) were astounding. These differences included (second vs. first): no post-surgery nausea, greatly reduced pain after surgery, less of a decrease in mobility in my neck region and I am much more relaxed.I attribute these benefits in large part to Dr. Rossman's techniques.

While my second surgery was not a picnic, using Dr. Rossman's techniques made a big difference for me both physically and emotionally.Your mileage will most certainly vary, but for me, it was well worth the effort.

I found Dr. Rossman's writing style and approach to dealing with cancer to be very reassuring, empowering and also complementary to the work that I am doing with my surgeon and endocrinologist.I would recommend Dr. Rossman's book and companion CD to anyone who is interested in becoming more actively involved in their cancer treatment and who wants to explore the power of the mind-body connection.

5-0 out of 5 stars winning tool in the fight against cancer
Last year this reviewer would never have read a book like FIGHTING CANCER FROM WITHIN: HOW TO USE THE POWER OF YOUR MIND FOR HEALING for it is clearly intended to help a specific group. However, my beautiful neighbor Chuck came down with a deadly form of cancer, but as his health deteriorated his will to live and his love for his wife, children, and grandchildren, and his conviction in God left me in awe of a great person. No miracle occurred as Chuck ultimately passed away, but he fought to live until the end and probably gained an extra month to hug his family and friends. With his memory etched in my brain, this reviewer read Dr. Martin L. Rossman's guidebook with a more open mind than the cynic I was would have read it last year, that is if I even tried.

This book does not claim that mental imagery replaces accepted medical practices in the fight against cancer. There is no special philosopher's stone, but instead Dr. Rossman provides readers with an easy to follow guide on how a victim's mind can help in the unending war.He furnishes specific examples to improve the odds of defeating or at least containing the deadly disease.Dr. Rossman asserts that a positive mind can lead to significant emotional and physical impact and shows how to complement standard treatments with specific imaging techniques to bring the entire mind and body into focus against the invaders. Not guaranteeing any walk on water cure, this is a winning tool in the fight against cancer.

5-0 out of 5 stars A remarkable contribution
Dr. Rossman's book, Fighting Cancer from Within, is a remarkable and important contribution to the field of oncology. His practical approach translates the idea of comprehensive healing of mind, body and spirit into a realistic guide for the newly diagnosed cancer patient.

As an Oncologist for almost 30 years, I continue to be amazed at the possibilities for healing, which can be facilitated with the use of guided imagery. Dr. Rossman provides a valuable guide through which cancer patients can empower themselves to cope with their disease process. This book teaches patients how to reduce the stress of their initial anguish and turmoil, facilitate healing from surgery faster and more completely, tolerate side-effects of chemotherapy and radiation better, and begin the journey of healing and recovery.

I plan to make this book available to each new cancer patient receiving treatment in our practice at California Cancer Care. -David S. Gullion, M.D. ... Read more

This is a very interesting book. I have read it through one time and have let a friend borrow it. When I get it back I will reread. I'm sure I have missed alot with the first reading.

4-0 out of 5 stars Informative
I feel this is a well written book and is informative for anyone looking to improve their meals and self.

This book is wonderful. If you have received that dreaded diagnosis, your doctor is not going to give you as much advice as Diana Dyer does. This book tells you how to improve your diet to maximize your chance of surviving. If you are still healthy, try to stay that way by following her guidelines. I was struck by how far ahead of her time Diana Dyer was. She was making changes (some controversial) way before the research showed she was doing the right thing.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Excellent "Book on Nutrition &Cancer
WOW!! This impressive book is for the person who desires to "optimize" their own health. Diana, a Registered Dietitian, and survivor of THREE episodes of cancer herself, discusses the on-going and evolving state of nutrition research and how she uses that information to determine her own "optimal diet" to treat/prevent cancer recurrence. She discloses how she has implemented good nutrition and complementary therapies into her everyday life. She shares her own recipes, serving sizes, sample menus, tips for eating 9+ servings of fruits and vegetables, recipe book sources, her own personal grocery list, dining-out tips, and newsletter, book & internet resource listings. Don't pass up this great help-yourself book! ... Read more
