5-0 out of 5 stars It Works
Greg Barton's diet works for curing major problems with autoimmune diseases. I've known a number of people who've used his book to cure themselves of problems. I'm only in my late 20s but started having inflammation issues a few years back, as I discovered, because of my diet. My jaw would "lock" up, leaving me in pain and unable to open it fully. With a few days on his diet my jaw opens up and there is no inflammation. Other people who've fruitfully used the book had problems with their digestion and inflammation.

The book is easy - even enjoyable - to read and for the money can't be beat. I fully recommend this book if you want to make a more radical life-changing shift to a healthy, pain-free life. It's also useful if you want a short term fix to problems, such as my joint problems, that aren't chronic but yet flair up and cause immense stress and pain for a short period of time.

Give it a try.

Product Description

The Specific Carbohydrate Diet is a strict grain-free, lactose-free, and sucrose-free dietary regimen intended for those suffering from Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis (both forms of IBD), celiac disease, IBS, cystic fibrosis, and autism. It is based on the work of Elaine Gottschall, who wrote Breaking the Vicious Cycle, which introduces the SCD and explains the importance of eliminating certain carbohydrates in order to alleviate digestive ailments such as IBD, IBS, and celiac disease.

For those suffering from gastrointestinal illnesses, the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) offers a method for easing symptoms and pain, and ultimately regaining health. Recipes for the Specific Carbohydrate Diet(TM) offers a diverse and delicious collection of 150 SCD-friendly recipes, that includes over 80 dairy-free recipes. The easy-to-make and culturally diverse recipes featured in the book include breakfast dishes, appetizers, main dishes, and desserts such as -- Hazelnut-Vanilla Pancakes, Olive Sandwich Bread, Chicken Satay, Roasted Bass with Parsley Butter, Thin Crust Pizza, Gretel's Gingerbread Cookies, and Mango Ice Cream. It is accompanied by 40 full-color photos that will inspire you to get cooking again. In addition, personal anecdotes accompany each section of this book. You can find out more about this book on-line at www.scdrecipe.com/cookbook/.

5-0 out of 5 stars Needed this!
I have no self-control, I admit it, so sticking with the SCD is hard for me - even if it is the only thing that really makes me feel better. I found myself getting in a food rut, making the same things over and over and getting sick of them (making it harder to stick to the diet). This cook book gave me all sorts of new things to try, I was excited about the diet all over again, and so far everything I have made has been really easy and delicious! Highly recommend. Nice layout and pictures as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars outstanding cookbook for Specific Carbohydrate Diet or any low-carb
Fantastic cookbook for those on the SCDiet for ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease, low-carb or Paleo Dieters. Great use of spices and I really liked the recipe to make my own curry powder. The recipes range from Foccaccia to Beef Vindaloo to Chicken with Lemon Sauce. Can't wait to make some of the desserts. Wonderful photography.
If I could only have one cookbook in my house it would be this one and that's saying a lot since I own a lot of cookbooks, but this one has very special recipes not found in many places.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fresh, wonderful recipes
I love this whole book, and I tell everyone I know with digestive ailments about it. As I write I have walnut parmesan chicken dredge in almond flour in my refrigerator. It's so good that I eat it cold when I'm on the run.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Ideas, sometimes too far out there
Awesome cookbook, very culturally diverse. Can't imagine eating some of those foods. But the other recipes more than make up for it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Contains illegal SCD ingredients
I was excited to get this book, the recipes look pretty good. The very first item I made, Lemon Cookies, contained baking powder, which is specifically illegal on the SCD diet. ... Read more

Product Description
America has become a fast society. Fast food, fast medical fixes with antibiotics and fast paced living with little to no exercise. The result is more people with Candida and Celiac disease, expanding waistlines and Diabetes on the increase.

Eating to control these diseases has been a lifetime of blandness followed by bouts of cheating for some variety and taste. No longer. This cookbook features over 200 recipes full of taste and variety that meet those dietary needs.

Gourmet cooking is a passion of Lynette Hall. She studied America’s great cooks and developed dishes from soups to nuts with everything in between. Her diagnosis with Candida started the development of this book. These recipes fit a busy lifestyle, the diet restrictions and are easy to prepare, most in 30–40 minutes. Variety abounds from American favorites to ethnic cuisine and a section devoted to condiments. Create your own catsup, mayonnaise and more!

“Ms. Hall’s book is a giant leap forward for families who know diet is health. Lynette’s wheat free, dairy free, stevia sweetened recipes are unique and healthful for all of us, yeast infections or not. We will enjoy these recipes for years to come.”

—Dr. Conrad Maulfair, D.O.

My alternative care physican, Dr. Maulfair (who wrote a blurb about the Lynette Hall on the back cover of this book) diagnosed me with Candida. Product Description
This volume reports the results of the largest study ever conducted on the epidemiology of coeliac disease (CD) involving 38 centres from 15 European countries. Significant variations in the incidence figures are thoroughly analyzed to provide further insight into the role played by genetic and environmental factors in CD. Much is still to be learned about the natural history of gluten sensitivity and the very definition of CD is now being questioned. A new nomenclature has been proposed and this book is the first to discuss in detail the concepts of silent, latent and potential CD which may have profound implications in terms of preventive and therapeutic strategies. Good non-invasive, inexpensive screening methods to diagnose silent CD are described as well as possible specific immunological markers for latent CD. ... Read more

Product Description
Solving a Riddle!

What Can Double You Over With Abdominal Pain, Yet Remain Unaffected by Meds?

It Could Be Something You Ate!

It’s a funny name that you may have never heard of before. It’s Celiac Disease.Pronounced like “silly act” it is one of the most allusive ailments in the medical community.

In fact, there’s a good bet that you’ve never heard of it.

Oddly enough it mimics other illnesses that we are quite familiar with, like Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS.Unfortunately it just doesn’t respond to IBS treatments.

Oh, you might get some temporary relief but it will just keep coming back and haunting you over and over again. It doesn’t go away and you begin to think you might be going crazy!

Well, you aren’t.Once you are diagnosed with Celiac Disease you can take the bull by the horns and start treating it yourself.Celiac Disease may be rare and hard to diagnosis but you will be amazed at how you feel once you are in control.

Celiac can present like Chron’s leading to further confusion over the diagnosis.Type I Diabetes and migraine are often associated with Celiac.

Because of this, it’s no wonder why it is so difficult to diagnose. The key is to know what symptoms to watch for and how your body reacts to those indicators.

If it is difficult for the medical community to diagnose, how do you expect to do it for yourself?Well, the bottom line is that you don’t; at least not without having an arsenal of knowledge to back you up.

What Can You Do?

That’s where we come into the picture. If it were ever important to have answers to your health questions, this is one of the most important. Why?Because Celiac Disease can be so difficult to diagnose you need answers to some pretty complex issues.

We give them to you in “Solving the Celiac Riddle.”

Why is a proper diagnosis so important when it comes to Celiac?Left untreated, complications can ensue. One common condition is malnutrition since the disease can cause malabsorption, followed by malnutrition.

That’s right. It may seem hard to believe that in the U.S. in this day and age someone can actually suffer from malnutrition. What is so sad is that it needn’t happen all if diagnosed early.

“Solving the Celiac Riddle” also warns of that several forms of cancer can develop if patients are not strictly following the Celiac Disease diet. Bowel cancer and intestinal lymphoma will most likely develop.

If you experience symptoms of Celiac Disease while pregnant it is doubly as important to get a proper diagnosis ASAP!Congenital malformation of babies and miscarriage can develop. Neural tube defects are also risks that pregnant women with Celiac Disease should be careful of.

Celiac Disease is generally an autoimmune problem, so neurological symptoms used to be believed to stem from autoimmune processes.

If we are alarming you with this information, that’s a good thing!Better to be alarmed and aware than complacent and seriously regretful. The answers to these problems are found in “Solving the Celiac Riddle.”

That isn’t to say that you or your loved one may not or ever have Celiac Disease. But isn’t it better to know it early when you can grab hold of the problem and bet it head on?Wouldn’t you rather know?We thought so. ... Read more

Product Description
Abstract:Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune disorder that causes varying degrees of villous atrophy and chronic malabsorption in genetically predisposed persons. Once considered a rare disease affecting children, younger adults, and persons of European ancestry, CD is increasingly recognized in all demographic groups with a prevalence rate in the United States of almost 1%. We offer an overview of the evaluation and management of CD vis-à-vis the case of a 41-year-old man who was hospitalized after presenting with the classic symptoms of chronic abdominal complaints, diarrhea, iron-deficiency anemia, and weight loss. Celiac disease remains an underdiagnosed condition in the United States, which is unfortunate given the potential treatment with a gluten-free diet. ... Read more
