Product Description
Anesthesia for Congenital Heart Disease will provide a state of the art summary of the many changes occurring in this rapidly evolving field over the last decade. The unique value of this book is that all chapters are written by leaders in the field of congenital cardiac anesthesia, who perform large numbers of cases clinically, and contribute important knowledge to the research literature, both clinical and basic science. A wide range of contributors from all of the major congenital heart surgery programs in North America give a broad range of perspectives not seen in previous texts in this field. This text will be the leading book in this subspeciality - the most comprehensive, detailed and specific, from the perspective of multiple institutions. Emphasis on new and emerging developments in anesthetic drugs and techniques occurs in each chapter. New chapters on subjects that have never before been addressed in a textbook of pediatric cardiac anesthesia include cardiac catheterization laboratory anesthesia, computers and technology, neurologic monitoring, bleeding and coagulation, approach to the teenager and adult, approach to the premature newborn, the inflammatory response, regional anesthesia and pain management, airway and ventilatory management, dysrhythmia management, non-cardiac surgery and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging; and research, teaching and administration. ... Editorial Review

Product Description
This authoritative volume has been designed to fill a void in available reference material on congenital heart disease. It presents an in-depth look at angiocardiographic findings in infants and children with malformed hearts.

Chapter 1 discusses the history of angiocardiography in congenital heart disease. Chapters 2 to 4 are concerned with equipment, radiologic projections, and the application of a segmental nomenclature in congenital heart disease. In Chapters 5 to 52 each common and rare malformation is presented in detail, with characteristic angiocardiographic features and variations. Malformations of the systemic veins are discussed, in addition to abnormalities of the heart, great arteries, and pulmonary venous return.

Teamwork, collaboration, and extensive hours of dedicated effort are responsible for the angiocardiograms, line drawings, photographs of gross specimens, thousands of upto-date references, and supporting text that comprise this comprehensive book. The magnitude of the data, as well as the consistency and care with which the material has been produced and cataloged, represents the culmination of a long and fruitful association between the authors and the staff of The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto.

Angiocardiography of Congenital HeartDisease will be a valuable tool for pediatric cardiologists, radiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, pathologists, and technologists involved in the investigation, diagnosis, and therapy of congenital heart disease. ... Read more

Product Description
Written by leading specialists D. Scott Lim, MD, Robert W. Battle, MD, and Allen D. Everett, MD, the Illustrated Field Guide to Adult Congenital Heart Disease is the new companion volume to the acclaimed Illustrated Guide to Congenital Heart Disease and Repair. Also a pocket-sized guide, it focuses on adult concerns and treatments. All major defects are covered, with twenty-six vividly illustrated chapters, 242 pages, a waterproof cover, and a handy wire binding. This book "answers the call for authoritative texts on this subject..."From the book's preface:This book is a direct result of the success that pediatric cardiologists, congenital heart surgeons, and allied professionals have had in caring for their patients with congenital heart disease... As a result of these efforts, adults with congenital heart disease outnumber children for the first time in history and the number of these adults is expected to grow... It is widely agreed that there is a significant deficiency of knowledgeable caregivers at all levels to provide for these patients in the current and future environment. In creating the "Illustrated Field Guide to Adult Congenital Heart Disease," we primarily wanted to demystify congenital heart disease for adult cardiologists and caregivers. This book is designed to be a rapid resource and reference to give cardiologists, nurses, nurse practitioners, technicians, catheterization laboratory personnel, medical students, and patients a mental image of native pathology and physiology as well as surgical and percutaneous interventions...Building upon our previous success with the "Illustrated Field Guide to Congenital Heart Disease & Repair," we have utilized the visual format to illustrate the complex and multi-faceted aspects of congenital heart disease... Congenital heart disease is now an integral part of mainstream cardiology and we believe that disseminating knowledge will improve current standards of care... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Update of a Classic
This monograph is required reading for anyone who has an interest in cardiac development and in the care of fetuses and newborns. This book reviews the concepts of one of the pioneers in the study of fetal cardiovascular physiology, and summarizes more than 30 years of thepersonal research observations of this masterful scientist, physician and teacher. There is also significant imaginative speculation that is likely to stimulate the imaginations of trainees in this field. It is a classic in the field, and has been improved in the current edition.

5-0 out of 5 stars Aged, but not outdated
Although it doesn't contain the latest developments in the field of pediatric cardiology,it isn't outdated. It doesn't try to propose the definitive treatment modality to the various heart abnormalitiesencountered in children, but explicitly explains various aspects of thedisorder.

Dr. Rudolph begins by explaining the physiology of the fetus, the neonate and the child, to help the reader understand the importance ofchanges produced by cardiac anomalies. It then explains cardiaccatheterization as a diagnostic tool.Once the basics are established, heexplains various anomalies from an anatomic standpoint, a hemodynamicstandpoint, clinical features, indications for catheterization, thedifferential diagnosis, and principles of management. While the managementissues have changed dramatically since its publication, this is only asmall portion of a book that provides a solid foundation to understandingthe pediatric heart.

As one of the "fathers" of pediatriccardiology, Dr. Rudolph has given us an invaluable tool to understandingthe fundamentals of pediatric cardiology. ... Read more
