5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT MEDICAL BOOK AND GREAT FOR PATIENTS AS WELL
This book anwered every question about the disease I have had for the past five years or so. Obviously it was written as a textbook for Medical School Students going into the fields of Rheumatology, Dermatology, and Neurology, but as a patient with the disease, I found it more easy to understand and take control of my health. I recommend this to everyone who has to treat patients with the disease as well as those that have the disease. I have done extensive research and have not found as complete a text that covers all the symptoms I have.

Great job to the doctors who wrote it and smart decision by the Universities that use in in their medical field curriculums.

This book was delivered as promised via Amazon.com. I could not put the book down for a few days until I read it. It told me everything I wanted to know about Autoimmune diseases and more, and gave me much more appreciation for my Rheumatologists Doctors Philip Sedrish and Marielisa Sedrish at Gulfcoast Rheumatology at Slidell Memorial Hospital. They have been doing everything like clock work with me and I have been a very trying case for especially for Dr Philip Sedrish. These doctors are definitely experts in Rheumatology and all the other Auto-Immune Neuromuscular and Skin Diseases such as (RA, PM, DM, IBM, Sjogrens, Scleroderma, Lupus, ALS, etc...) that go along with their specialty. They referred me to the best specialists: Dermatology - Dr Eric Tabor; Cardiology - Dr Ignatius Thomas; Pulmonology - Doctor Dennis Dale and Doctor Janine Parker; Opthamology- Dr David Slagle; Gastroenternology - Dr Anthony Albright. These doctors all work well with each other and me to address all my symptoms associated with Dermatomyositis, Sjogrens, and Psoriasis. Thanks to these doctors, I have not had to drive 100 miles a trip to the MDA Clinic at Children'sHospital in New Orleans or even further as may others end up doing.

Thank you to the authors of this book and my friends from The Myositis Association, Polymyositis and Dermatomyositis forum.

I recommend this book to anyone diagnosed with a Auto-Immune Disease and associated Cancer.

5-0 out of 5 stars A review of Myositis and You
This book is an excellent resource for anyone dealing with, or wanting to know more about this rare group of diseases. Since I've actually met some of the contributing authors I can honestly say this book is an intelligent and well thought out body of medical research. It is well worth the purchase price, especially if your child is afflicted by one of these diseases. Chapter 28 has good information on overlap conditions that occur with Juvenile Dermatomyositis.

5-0 out of 5 stars Invaluable information

Product Description
This book has been created for patients who have decided to make education and research an integral part of the treatment process. Although it also gives information useful to doctors, caregivers and other health professionals, it tells patients where and how to look for information covering virtually all topics related to dermatomyositis (also Idiopathic inflammatory myopathy), from the essentials to the most advanced areas of research. The title of this book includes the word official. This reflects the fact that the sourcebook draws from public, academic, government, and peer-reviewed research. Selected readings from various agencies are reproduced to give you some of the latest official information available to date on dermatomyositis. Given patients' increasing sophistication in using the Internet, abundant references to reliable Internet-based resources are provided throughout this sourcebook. Where possible, guidance is provided on how to obtain free-of-charge, primary research results as well as more detailed information via the Internet. E-book and electronic versions of this sourcebook are fully interactive with each of the Internet sites mentioned (clicking on a hyperlink automatically opens your browser to the site indicated). 4-0 out of 5 stars Good Book -But Not Up to Date with Specialists In Gulf Coast Area
This book was delivered as promised via Amazon.com.

I could not put the book down for a few days until I read through it.

It told me alotof things I already know. I wanted to know about Dermatomyositis and more.

I was a little disappointed since it did not show many specialists and clinics in the Gulf Coast Area, ex. Louisiana. I am sure others with the disease will pick up on the same and feel they have to travel half way across the states to beproperly takencare of. That is definitely an unintentional, but obvious feeling I had. So I will mention the book was good, but maybe my story below will let folks know their are many outstanding specialists in their home towns, that they have not found. A more general and true statement in the book would have been that the United States is hurting for Rheumatologists.

The book did give me much more appreciation for my own Rheumatologists, Doctors Philip Sedrish and Marielisa Sedrish at Gulfcoast Rheumatology at Slidell Memorial Hospital. My fingers also are deforming and stubby now so I am usually off a key, I hate misspelling because as a writer I am losing it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Of little value
I had anticipated several descriptive chapters on symptoms and prognosis of Dermatomyositis, but found about 4 pages.

The majority of the book is a listing of URL's (websites) of various entities, agencies and programs involved in experimentation & treatment. Many of the descriptions and links appear to be out of date. This book did not meet my expectations; I do not recommend it.

Product Description
Hannelore Helbing-Sheafe’s constant struggle with her health was a powerful motivator to investigate possible ways to help herself and others. The focus of her practice was always on finding the cause of the problem and instructing patients in using correct nutrients and/or natural medicine and therapy to correct and reverse existing health problems. Her main focus has been to seek balance in all body systems.

Connective Tissue Diseases - Holistic Therapy Options provides valuable information about holistic therapy options for patients afflicted with connective tissue (collagen) problems.Detailed information is given regarding current medical diagnostic procedures and treatment, followed by holistic therapy options. The book also provides details about the multiple, complexing symptoms experienced during this illness.

Connective Tissue Diseases - Holistic Therapy Options is an education on "Nature's Pharmacy". It promises no miracle cures; instead, it lists natural substances that soothe pain, improve circulation, repair and restore connective tissue to normal function, reverse illness to a more manageable level and give the chronically ill patient quality of life and hope. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good coverage of a little covered subject
Even though the title is in medical jargon, this book is really for the average person trying to get a handle on how to deal with their particular connective tissue disease from Lupus to CREST to some weird rash related to an auto immune reaction. After a short intro on how the author came to write about connective tissue diseases, the book takes each disease, or condition, and systematically going through the symptoms, conventional medical treatment with their side effects and then alternatives including foods to eat or avoid, supplements, and related treatments. After this there are sections on herbs and foods that are antibiotic, that help vasolate the blood vessels--ie open them up and help circulation, especially in the extremities: fingers, toes, hands and feet, and items that do other specific work with the body to alleviate symptoms--not just masks them. The book has several weaknesses--although the bulk of the book is well organized--the beginning and end are a bit confusing. The table of contents is strange--seems more like a list than what is in the book. However you can probably skip those parts for all they add, and start right in on reading about the various diseases, especially since many are related or some people can have one condition like Raynaud's along with more serious diseases. Also the index is just about useless. There are index entries pointing to pages that do not exist in the book and the index misses many pages that mention an important symptoms such as dry eyes or lesions, for example. And the sub-subjects are not indented, so it's confusing. this is true at times in the main text--it's not formatted so that you know that something is separate from something else. Still there is a lot of good info here, so I suggest you take notes if you read the book--to note page numbers and info that is important to you, so you can find it later.
The book needed a good editor and/or someone with a sharp eye for formatting. I would have given five stars if the formatting and index had been up to snuff. ... Read more
