Editorial Review Product Description Rid yourself of eczema forever! Based on new research, this book has everything the millions of eczema sufferers need to know to free themselves from unbearable itching and unsightly rashes. Eczema–Free For Life contains the latest medical information about the cause, symptoms, and treatments of eczema and is written both for adults with eczema and the parents of children with eczema. In addition to the most recent medical research, Dr. Nasir offers guidance for home care and ways to cope with the psychological impact of the disorder. None of the popular books about eczema currently on the market is written by a practicing dermatologist and none is based on up–to–date science. New research has conclusively demonstrated that eczema is the result of the abnormal development of some twenty genes responsible for controlling how the skin interacts with the environment. When the skin's barrier function fails, irritants pass through to underlying tissue and trigger the itchy rash that characterizes eczema. Dr. Nasir will explain new and more powerful treatments that are being developed based on these new discoveries as well as point out reliable holistic remedies that have worked for centuries. Editorial Review Product Description Atopic eczema (eczema, atopic dermatitis, diffuse neurodermatitis, endogenous eczema) is one of the most common skin diseases of our time—not only in childhood. The prevalence of this disease has increased dramatically over the past decades, although the reasons for this increase are not known. Eczema occurs anywhere in the world, not only in industrialized countries. It occurs at any age, not only in childhood, and approximately two-thirds of children affected will suffer from this disease when they are grown up. Written by leading experts in their field, this second edition of the excellent handbook of atopic eczema comprises the state of the art in pathophysiology, clinical medicine, and therapeutic management. It demonstrates that there is no simple "miracle" cream, pill, or diet for this disease, but that a disturbed barrier function can only be repaired by adequate and individualized skin care. It also shows how unspecific anti-inflammatory treatment has to be individually tailored according to body area affected, patient age, and severity of skin lesions. All physicians treating patients with atopic eczema will find this book most helpful in their painstaking search for the individual causal or eliciting factors, which is the only basis for rational treatment and prevention of this disease. |

Editorial Review Product Description Apart from medical advice, there seems to be a puzzling array of creams and potions, herbal remedies and alternative treatments. Understanding Skin Problems helps sufferers maximise the benefits of advice, from whatever source, so that they can learn to live with their condition more easily. Written from a psychological perspective, Linda Papadopoulos and Carl Walker show that, although seldom life-threatening, skin diseases can be very distressing for both sufferers and their families. As a source of information or just as general interest, this handy guide will help you to understand the importance of the mind-body connection, and how it can help in dermatology. Editorial Review Product Description In this well-illustrated book aimed at both parents and affected children, Dr Atherton explains the latest in what is known about the causes, the treatments available, and the effects on the child and family's life. He also gives practical advice on where to go for help and support. Customer Reviews (5)
Good resource to have on hand David Atherton writes this book not as a sure-fire method to eliminate the source of eczema, but as a tool for trying different tactics to alleviate the symptoms. He also takes the reader through the different stages that appear at different ages. There were several tips that I gathered from the reading, making the book well worth the $... to purchase.
Eczema in Childhood: The Facts However, I was very disappointed that he did notmentionhis opinion on nutritional supplements such as zinc, flax seed oil (Omega 3vs Omega 6), vitamin B12 or B6, etc.He never mentioned digestive enzymesor his opinion on whether they may assist in breaking down the proteins. He never mentioned if an overgrowth of Candida Albicans in the intestinesmight be a cause of eczema. He never mentioned acidophilus as a supplementto help balance the flora in the intestines. I felt that his conclusionwas that children will eventually outgrow eczema and therefore, shouldconsider using a very aggressive course of oral steroids.I hope heunderstands that the reason I am reading about eczema is because after 10years of American Medicine treating only the symptom, I am looking forassistance in finding the cause.I do not want my child to suffer anyrepercussions later in life due to a mistake I make now.I tried ChineseMedicine, but, I guess she was one of the 40% which did not benefit fromit.
Just what the doctor ordered...

Finally an answer........ :)
The Psoriasis and Eczema Solution Is A Waste of Your Money Exorex is explained in the book to contain theessential fatty acids originally derived from bannana and the activeingredient 1% coal tar, and supposedly has a better skin penetratingformula and smell than regular coal tar. Coal tar alone has been used foryears for the treatment of these conditions, and some would question thesafety of this type of use.I would question the safety of coal tar beingmore deeply absorbed by the body in this supposed new formulation.Also,1% coal tar can be obtained in its own form a heck of a lot cheaper, andwithout the expense of buying this book that plays on the desperation ofthe poor folk who suffer from these conditions. Finally, eczema andpsoraisis, while both affecting the skin, are two completely separate anddistinct conditions, and don't really seem to me to need to be discussed inone book. For eczema, I would recommend a book by Dr. Atherton called,Eczema in Childhood - The Facts...good for children and adults alike. ... Read more |
