1-0 out of 5 stars not very helpful
This is the author's experience with dealing with endometriosis. Not alot of back up or reason behind the suggestions. Many of her suggestions are excellent for promoting good health, but it's not made clear why they help with endo.

5-0 out of 5 stars Endometriosis-Very positive, easy to read with specifics
This is a good book to read for endometriosis sufferers and anyone else into yoga because the author talks of her personal experience with the disease. She guides the reader through the body map so that one can have a better understanding of the disease and their body energy through yoga exercises. The introduction explains what the book covers and gives positive reinforcement for inspiration and encouragement. She takes a personal approach and relates this and empathizes with her audience just how she felt before she bagan doing yoga. This is very insightful and motivating. She educates the reader about the different therapies available and why endometriosis may occur. She supports the reader in comforting them with the initial phase of pursuing yoga as a healing modality. She gives the reader inspirationand helps in restructuring their cognition and enlightens their feelings and gives them a more positive outlook. The tools of the trade are explained in detail such as pranayama and meditation. The book has a conscious awareness insight that draws you in to your inner body experience. This subliminal connection decreases fears that actually cause pain. The poses are very well explained so anyone can follow along. She guides you through a diet and just how to monitor this process. I really enjoyed reading this book, it is a wonderful reference guide to have on your shelf. The book is a journey taking one from the beginning of where it all began to a world of possibilities and transformation. The book can teach you to understand your body rhythms, limitations and energy levels.

5-0 out of 5 stars at last - a book that shows you the light
Highly recommended.

I was almost in tears when I found this book - everything this woman writes is something I can relate to or have had direct experience with.

Each section of the book is wonderfully comprehensive, as is the research.

I urge all of you who are suffering with this disease or if you know someone struggling with it, to read this book - you will treasure it.

It has completely changed my life and I am positive it will dramatically alter how you cope and manage your life.

Thank you so much Tammy!

1-0 out of 5 stars The worst book written to date
This book is horrible.Has errors (such as stating there are FIVE Stages of Endo, when there are only FOUR), is nothing but a "look at me, look at me, aren't I wonderful," type of book. Some of the information is suspiciously familiar from other works, but without the credit being given, such as what happened on her website not terribly long ago.

My advice?Get a book that is well known for TRUE INFORMATION about Endometriosis, and not a book that only wants to depict the author and "how wonderful I am."Glenda Motta has a terrific book. The Endometriosis Sourcebook, while a bit outdated, still has excellent information contained within it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Coping skills? Nope.Medically sound? Not. Pity Party? YES.
This book is not medically sound.I posted a while back (March, 2003) when I first read it.Since then I have mentioned the ideas to my reproductive endocrinologist that Jennifer states in her book, and -*JUST* as another reader experienced- I was told "that's not true".

After a four-hour laparotomy for this disease in May of this year & going through my endo library, this is the worst book I have.I'm afraid to sell it online because I don't want to pass on the bad advice. While you may read the first few pages of the book (or even read the sample pages herein), don't be fooled. This book would be better suited as a blog or web diary, rather than an actual published book.

The reasoning? It would have been free.I wouldn't have objected if she actually wrote medical facts, as opposed to opinion (hence: her data is not backed up!), if she would have provided coping information (nope, it's a pity party and you're invited...and in fact, PAID to attend), and if she would have crafted a book that helped.

Instead, when I finished the book, I felt worse off. While I value a woman's experience with a disease, 1- I don't champion the concept of only telling your story (diary?) without helping your readers see the larger picture, 2- writing NON-medically sound opinion without fact, 3- including filler of letters to Jennifer ('oh you are so nice'), and even suggesting that people can write to you, and, for a fee, you will assist.

The woman is not a professional! He*l, she's not even a licensed counselor.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Don't get me wrong-- I understand about having days so bleak and so painful that you can't even see the sky. However, when I read a book about this disease, I don't want to put up a tent and make camp in the lowest depths of my soul (and not to mention, that the tent is made of heresay & opinion, not fact).

Invest in yourself and get Coping With Endometriosis: Sound, Compassionate Advice for Alleviating the Physical and Emotional Symptoms of This Frequently Misunderstood Illenss. It has better coping tools, discusses the entire nature of this disease based in science (but written conversationally), and helps you heal as a whole woman who happens to have endo, instead of a diseased woman.I will not let this disease win. After reading Jennifer's book, I felt beaten--as if there was no sky.

I don't expect a book to sugar coat a disease. But I do expect a book to be scientifically justified/based & seem to come from the premise of support, help and assistance.

Unfortunately, Lewis' book was none of these, but shameless self-promotion.There are better books out there. If you MUST buy this book, buy it on clearance.

5-0 out of 5 stars THANK YOU for this wonderful book!
Thank you for this wonderful book! My daughter brought it home to have my husband and I read so we could better understand what she was going through and by the time we were finished we were completely informed. It was so easy to make notes and to tell that the author had genuinely gone through the exact same things she describes endo is all about and that made it so much easier to understand and empathize with her. My daughter wants another book for her birthday and I've already ordered a second copy. Good luck Ms. Lewis!

5-0 out of 5 stars Many Thanks Jennifer......
I just wanted to start off by saying that I thouroughly enjoyed reading this book and would definately reccomend it to anyone who has or thinks they may have Endometriosis. It was written in a way that we can relate and understand Endometriosis and the trials and trivulations that go along with it.Jennifer helps you to put the whole disease and the heartache as well as suffering that goes along with it into perspective. As well as the women with the disease itself she has also included loved ones which are a big part of this disease as well.Thank-you Jennifer I applaud your courage and compassion in writing this book although I am deeply sorry for your suffering.Best Wishes for a long and healthy life ahead of you!!!!LuvPennie.

5-0 out of 5 stars SO grateful I read this book!
I am so grateful I read this wonderfully written book by Ms. Lewis! It is the first book on Endometriosis that I've read where the truth was told to me and I felt like I was speaking to a friend, not a doctor. The best part is that the author never makes her story seem fake or anything like that as she tells it like it really is. It's so refreshing to read something so straightforward and honest! I am recommending this to everyone I know with Endometriosis and I recommend this to you too!

Product Description
Ten percent of menstruating women suffer from endometriosis, the condition causing chronic, agonizing menstrual pain and a host of associated problems. Just as worrying, many of these women are unable to name the condition and therefore cannot get the right treatment.

Endometriosis: One Woman's Story relates Megan Harvey's long struggle, from the confusion of years of unexplained blinding pain to the relief of diagnosis, the grief of infertility and eventual 'cure' - in her case, a complete hysterectomy at the age of 22.

Case studies, treatment advice and a strong underlying theme of emotional support make this book an essential and affirming guide for endometriosis sufferers, their friends and families. The problems Megan endured, emotional as well as physical, make harrowing reading - but her journey back to a 'normal', happy life shows that it is possible to be an endometriosis survivor. ...
