Product Description
Type II diabetes is a disease that has developed into a worldwide epidemic. At the time of the discovery of insulin in the 1920's there was approximately one Type II patient for every Type I patient. Today, 80 years later, there are close to twenty Type II patients for every Type I patient. Preceding the onset of overt diabetes in most Type II patients is a prolonged period of insulin resistance that entails a host of detrimental derangements including impaired glucose tolerance, dyslipidemia, hypertension and beta cell failure, comprising a disease entity which is best referred to as the 'Insulin Resistance Syndrome', or 'Metabolic Syndrome'. This book deals with the cellular and whole body pathogenic mechanisms and phenotypic expressions in various models of insulin resistance which will be instrumental in improving understanding and development of means for the prevention of the transition from insulin resistance into overt diabetes.

Presenting state-of-the-art knowledge in the field of insulin resistance, this book will be of great interest to all students, researchers, pharmaceutical scientists and clinicians interested in endocrinology, biochemistry and metabolism in diabetes. ... Read more

Product Description
Magnetoencephalography (MEG) is an exciting brain imaging technology that allows real-time tracking of neural activity, making it an invaluable tool for advancing our understanding of brain function. In this comprehensive introduction to MEG, Peter Hansen, Morten Kringelbach, and Riitta Salmelin have brought together the leading researchers to provide the basic tools for planning and executing MEG experiments, as well as analyzing and interpreting the resulting data. Chapters on the basics describe the fundamentals of MEG and its instrumentation, and provide guidelines for designing experiments and performing successful measurements. Chapters on data analysis present it in detail, from general concepts and assumptions to analysis of evoked responses and oscillatory background activity. Chapters on solutions propose potential solutions to the inverse problem using techniques such as minimum norm estimates, spatial filters and beamformers. Chapters on combinations elucidate how MEG can be used to complement other neuroimaging techniques. Chapters on applications provide practical examples of how to use MEG to study sensory processing and cognitive tasks, and how MEG can be used in a clinical setting. These chapters form a complete basic reference source for those interested in exploring or already using MEG that will hopefully inspire them to try to develop new, exciting approaches to designing and analyzing their own studies. This book will be a valuable resource for researchers from diverse fields, including neuroimaging, cognitive neuroscience, medical imaging, computer modelling, as well as for clinical practitioners. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Timely Help
Chicken Soup for the Cancer Surviving Soul is an inspiring collection of true stories from people with tough cancer diagnoses.

I was given it as a gift when I was struggling with cancer. The stories were a huge encouragement and helped me find a path to survival.

As a twelve year cancer survivor now, I have and continue to give a copy to anyone I know who is finding themself in a struggle with cancer.

4-0 out of 5 stars More needed
These are the type of stories that we need more of. We need inspirational stories that show the world what can be achieved. There is no one way to heal yourself of cancer, as this book so aptly illustrates, but many!! Everyone needs to read this so that the negativity surrounding cancer can be put into perspective. If these people can heal themselves of cancer then so can so many more. This book is a positive endorsement that cancer does not have only one healing way, but that there are many. We are all individuals and it is time we started seeing healing as an individual thing that is different for each and everyone of us.
Dr Gunta Krumins-Caldwell author of On Silver Wings

5-0 out of 5 stars highly recommended
I sent this to my mother in law after her stage 4 colon cancer diagnosis. A close friend who is also a colon cancer survivor highly recommended it.My mother in law agrees. She also made the point that it was good to read because it had short stories, so she could read one or several, depending on time and energy availability.I think it probably provides comfort and understanding that can only come from other cancer victims.

5-0 out of 5 stars must have for cancer patients!!
This book is a must have for anyone going thru cancer treatment or cancer diagnosis...it gives hope.....makes you laugh and cry!!It is very cathartic...

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
I purchased this book as a gift for my mother after she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. My mother is a strong woman, and she tried to cover up her fear after she was diagnosed. When I gave her this book, it brought tears to her eyes. After reading for a few days, she told me that the book helped her understand what her treatment would be like and what she could expect in the future. She was so encouraged by the personal testimonies in this book and it helped her confront her fears.I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for hope, encouragement, and insight on cancer and how it affects our lives.

5-0 out of 5 stars Chicken Soup book
As a three-time survivor of cancer, a friend gave me this book.I enjoyed it so much that I passed it on to another friend. Now I needed a new book for a terminal patient since I no longer had a co py.I know he will profit also from reading it.

5-0 out of 5 stars At Ease
There is a major theme that runs through everyones personal story .
No matter whatthe aspect there is a continual nervous feeling,no matter how brave the individual. This collection is compiled in in such a positive way that all the persons involved with their cancer and circumstances are similar. My cancer too.
Reading it at first was difficult but after the first few stories a sense of ease set in and they became meaningful.
As a person who generally avoids such books I did not put this one down. My thanks to my friend who turned me on to it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A lens called cancer
Even if you don't have cancer, you know someone who does. How can you understand them? Help them?Be the friend they need? You can start by reading this book and understanding what life looks like when viewed through the lens called cancer.

And lest you think that the book is full of morose and morbid stories, please know that this book will make you laugh and smile as much as it will make you cry; cancer seems to brings out an extraordinary range of emotions.

Understand this disease and understand better the people you love who face this disease.Read the The Cancer Book.

5-0 out of 5 stars It Takes A Courageous Village
I wish I was courageous as the people in this book. I am not. It was hard to read. But it takes more courage to write about it as these folks do. And much more than that, is just to face it straight up. All the while not knowing if the outcome would be in one's favor. That can make for an adventurous tale. And unlike a patient, a reader is rewarded for facing it. Because at the end we will find uplight, or tears.
Any book that makes you laugh and cry is wondrous indeed.
But it is the different depths of love that are revealed in this one.
Thank you for this worthy book.
As the youth say, love ya! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars A Premature Claim
William Hansen tells his heartfelt story, but the conclusion remains unwritten. Since he declares that he's taking Sinemet, which is standard PD therapy, the claim of "conquering" Parkinson's seems empty. And, since he hasn't been on Sinemet for more than five years, he hasn't entered the period in which the on-off cycle common to dopamine replacing protocols becomes problematic. Regarding his nutritional sprays, if they would enable him to be symptom free or even symptom reduced without Sinemet, he'd be onto something.

1-0 out of 5 stars Read this book if you enjoy infomercials.
As someone whose spouse has Parkinson's, I am always heartened and inspired by news of those who can "beat" the disease.I wish the author well, but the "book" he has written is little more than an "infomercial" for the sprays sold by his company.Buyer beware. . . . He offers virtually no scientific evidence to support these claims.

5-0 out of 5 stars When Life hands you a lemon, make lemonade
This book is a classic depiction of the above adage. When an illness like Parkinson's Disease strikes you and your body refuses to obey your wishes as you have been accustomed and prospects of getting better, seem bleak, it is easy to give way to passivity and depression. This is one thing William Paul Hansen refused to do. He began to work on his disease at several levels. His malady has prompted him to read and expand his frontiers and this book contains an impressive reading list on mind body healing. He adopted a strict spiritual regimen, meditating regularly for hours each day. At the physical level, he took off from his job and 'began my research odyssey', with a new exercise and diet routine. He also ended up developing the Parkimin sprays, a device which were aimed at conveying drugs for Parkinsons and other neurological diseases, more effectively to the brain.

In this book, he describes the story of his long drawn out struggle with the disease, his realizations along the way, as to the connections between his mind, body and spirit, to his winning a final control over his dis-ease. It is probably the first time anybody has talked of actually conquering this dreaded disease that affects several million people over the globe every year. Most books on the subject, deal with people who have managed to live with the disease without its affecting their lives too negatively.

The content of this book is inspiring to say the very least. Highly recommended to anyone, afflicted not only by PD, but any life-threatening disorder.

5-0 out of 5 stars His inspirational testimony of hope and perseverence
I'm Dancing Again Because Hope Heals: How One Man Conquered Parkinson's is the personal story of William Paul Hansen and his personal triumph over a chronic and debilitating disease. Seven years ago, he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and prostate cancer. He attributes his miraculous recovery to his use of nutraceutical sprays, intense spirituality, and a daily physical training program. His inspirational testimony of hope and perseverence is touching and memorable, recounting his struggle against fears and his search to find meaning even as he strived to learn more about the medical conditions that threatened him.

5-0 out of 5 stars Seeing is believing!
I've known Bill Hansen for months now, and everything Bill says in his book is absolutely true.He has rebuilt his life after being diagnosed with Parkinson's and his book is an inspiration to anyone stricken with a neurological disease.Anyone who has Parkinson's or knows someone who has Parkinson's, which is practically everyone, should read this book. ...
