For the newly diagnosed patient, for the patient who has lived with IBD for years, and for their families, the book's objective is to"make you a better informed patient who can understand what your doctor is doingand why". The aetiology of the chronic inflammatory bowel diseases-- Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis -- is stillenigmatic. The therapeutic approach has therefore traditionallyfocused on anti-inflammatory principles, including corticosteroids andaminosalicylates. Since a significant proportion of patients issteroid-dependent or refractory and because of the problematicside-effects of long-term systemic steroids, active immunosuppressionhas gained acceptance in the field.

The classical immunosuppressants azathioprine and 6-mercaptopurinehave long been evidence-based in IBD, but underused. Recently,methotrexate and cyclosporine have also been proven to be effective incertain situations. Newer drugs like tacrolimus, mycophenolate andothers may be similarly useful but their potential is still unclear.Finally, the immune modifiers including IL-10 and TNF-antibodies havebeen successfully subjected to controlled trials. Other experimentaldrugs discussed in this book are on the horizon.

The best book so far on IBS
I have been going to doctors for over a year now. I have read everything under the sun. This book has been the best thing so far that I have found. It all makes sense. If you have IBS or Fibromyalgia, you must read this book.

Crohn's Disease
When I received this book, it amazed me at my research for treating Crohn's Disease for my 13 year old son.I started to look anywhere and everywhere for answers because his doctor based drugs weren't working entirely.In fact, he is on double the dose and frequency of remicade infusions which my insurance will not cover anymore.This book opened my eyes and I made significant changes to my son's diet which is healing him.A very good book to read when you have to look for other options of treatment.

So Far, So Good!
I've been on Dr. Dahlman's regime for almost a month and have seen marked improvement. The supplements are not cheap but, hey, I'm feeling so much better! I'll check back in after three months to update on progress!

Real help & real information; THIS WILL HELP!
My eighteen year nightmare is now much better. I personally worked with this doctor and have had the most improvement ever. I still have some symptoms but the improvement is dramatic. Dr. Dahlman knows what he is doing. The book explains everything and is worth every penny. Throw away all other IBS books and follow the plan EXACTLY. You must be committed but it is well worth it. I was afraid that I would be throwing away money on the recommended products but after years of trial and error, this has proven the best. Go to his web site and if possible, make an appointment and work with Dr. Dahlman personally. Well wishes & get the book ASAP. All the literate out there is contradicting and when you're sick, it become overwhelming to make such decisions. I have been to numerous traditional medical & alternative doctors and practioners, tried medication, natural supplement, hypnosis, acupuncture, cleanses, colonics, yoga, as well as over the counter medications and prescriptions. Significant scientific progress has been made in recent years in the aetiopathogenesis of chronic inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), that has changed or will change in the future the diagnostic and therapeutic approach in these diseases. The relevance of classical conventional IBD therapies has been critically re-evaluated under criteria of evidence-based medicine approaches. On the other hand, new therapeutic options have emerged. These include modern immunomodulators, biologics, probiotics, worm eggs and extracorporeal therapies. The clinical relevance of these new modalities is often difficult to assess for physicians who do not work frequently with IBD patients.
