5 If you know medical terminology
In spite of having to look up many words enough to get a basic understanding of the explanations the booklet works well for a laymen - it is well laid out so the possible liver disorders are explained along with charts showing the events to diagnosis and the possible treatment for each disorder. Well organized so that regardless I had never studied medicine nor was biology or chemistry included in my education I did obtain a basic understanding of the symptoms and treatments affecting liver disorders. ... A Good Liver Disorder Book
The Liver Disorders Sourcebook was well written & very informative. It has extremely helpful information on Liver Disease & it's treatment.

Dr. Worman Is a Liar
Dr. Worman should be ashamed of himself. He is obviously in the pockets of the big drug companies, because there are several herbal remedies that truly enhance liver function. One of these herbs, milk thistle, has been proven to aid liver function, but Dr. Worman goes out of his way to claim that no "scientific" studies show this. That's nonsense, and it's a lie. Milk thistle has been known to aid liver function for centuries, and it has been thorougly tested and proven to do so in recent studies. Dr. Worman does not want you to know this, because the drug companies cannot make any money on this common and inexpensive herb.So Dr. Worman would rather lie and potentially let people die while he shills for "Big Pharm."

Good buy
I got this book for my husband who had slightly elevated ALTs and ANA. He's done many tests but doctors can't figure out what's going on. While this book did not give the answer (now, we wouldn't need doctors then!), it helped him get a good understanding of the interconnected liver issues. Got the thumbs up from a person in the pharma field!

Whew!There is hope.
Hepatitis C has many times been called "the silent killer," but Dr. Worman explains that death is not always the case....people can (and do) live with the virus.In addition to covering Hep. C (which I wasmostly interested in), he sheds light on the other Hepatitis viruses andliver dysfunctions (hence the title). I found this book to be technicalenough to give a layperson, like myself, a good biochemistry and cellbiology lesson, but easy enough to read so that I didn't feel like puttingit down. I especially liked how Dr. Worman frequently repeatedinformation (or rather, re-worded the same information, summarizing). Writing the book this way helped the info. "sink in." This is agreat counterpoint to alternative medicine believers (which I am), as itoffers a strictly medical approach to diagnosis and treatment.(We allneed both sides of the story.) Especially beneficial are the chapters onsupport groups, where to find more information about liver disorders, andthe glossary of terms. I recommend this book for anyone who is seeking moreinformation for him/herself or a relative striken with liver problems ofany kind.It is a thorough guide with practical information that in thelong run gives hope. ... Liver Issues - Buy This Book
I was diagnosed as needing a liver transplant in late 2007.Luckily, I live in the same city as Dr. Eugene Schiff, and with the assistance of several doctor friends, was able to get a consultation with Dr. Schiff, who confirmed the diagnosis.

Dr. Schiff is considered by most gastroenterologists to be the world's authority on diseases of the liver and his book is the standard textbook for liver specialists all over the world.(I know a couple of med students who hate this book because the two volumes are heavy and they have to carry them around all day.) It's heavy because it is extremely comprehensive.If something can go wrong with a human liver, it is covered in these books.And, the information is current. Dr. Schiff, while primarily teaching, still sees patients several days a week and the books are revised annually.

Unless you are a doctor or medical student, this book is not an "easy read".It is a textbook filled with a lot of technical terms, but it is written so that a person of average intelligence with the help of a good medical dictionary or the internet, can work through information about your condition that you are experiencing or that your doctor may have told you but that you didn't fully understand.

Schiff's Diseases of the Liver is a must have for anyone facing liver illness or transplant.It will help you to understand why your organ failed as well as what to expect during treatment and pre and post operation situations. ... Read more
