Product Description
Understanding the epidemiology and nature of Lyme disease (LD), and the perception of its risk to the human population are important for the development of public health policies, for guiding clinicians in their practices, and for general public awareness to minimize risk to the population. However, there has been minimal research into knowledge levels and resulting perceptions of Lyme disease, and how those perceptions influence various groups in their practices. This book explores four groups for their knowledge levels and perceptions on Lyme disease: scientists, policy makers, clinicians, and disease-specific advocates. One major category emerged through analysis: knowledge and understanding of LD, along with 5 sub-categories: lack of knowledge and understanding of LD, application of LD knowledge, LD transmission, individual roles, and personal perspectives. The findings indicate the importance of the critical current science of Lyme being disseminated across the groups to enable the development of risk perceptions conducive to effective disease control, and should be particularly useful for healthcare professionals, or individuals personally affected by Lyme disease. ... Product Description
Among the remarkable attributes of Lyme disease is the amount of controversy it continues to generate. The disease's clinical features, the correct use of established serologies, the value of newer testing modalities, the determing of a prognosis, the selection of treatment--all remain subjects of debate. By means of a series of case discussions I will address at least some of these issues (and also the issue of prevention). My aim is to demonstrate that with adequate attention to specifics and details and with adequate knowledge of the proved facts about Lyme disease, the diagnosis and management of the disease are usually relatively straightforward (Tables 1 and 2). ... Product Description
Lyme disease is that unseen destroyer of lives. Each year tens of thousands are diagnosed with the disease—a number that represents one-tenth of those actually infected. It has been called “the great imitator” because the disease mimics nearly 350 other diseases. Unknown—or perhaps just ignored—are those whose lives are disrupted, devalued and left behind. This book is for them. This book is for all those who have questions regarding the effects of Lyme disease. It is for the families, the friends and the infected. This is the story of one man’s ongoing struggle to overcome. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Mary...
I wanted to write this review as i have read this book. The titel is just what it is One mans story,he never clames to be a doctor or have all the answers,he is not a singer songwriter or actor he is just an average man just living life like the rest of us.Until lyme Disease changed his life and the lives of all the people who know and love him,as it does with everyone who has this disease. Understanding just some of the effects this disease has not only on your physical body but the mentel and emotional rollecoaster ride it takes you on is an ongoing battle.
I strongly recommend you read this book, you will walk away with a new understanding.

5-0 out of 5 stars I have read the book!
I actually did read the book and am writing my review based off of that.

The book is well written and as titled is one man's story of his own life in dealing with lyme disease. The book is about the personal side of this horrible disease, more specifically his own story, not anyone else's story, just his.

It is meant to tell others about how drastically and profoundly the disease can change an average person's life, for the worse. All too often people think "this won't happen to me", in this case it did happen and to a person who is no different than the rest of us; a hardworking family man.

The book is meant to reach out to others; giving perhaps a justifcation (a sense of "see I am not making all these symptons up"to those with lyme disease, maybe a reality check to the family and friends of people with lyme disease, and a simple reflection of life to those who have heard of lyme disease but don't know much about it and think it will never happen to them.

The author never once stated in his book that it is a medical book on lyme disease or that he has all the facts. That is just it, when dealing with a disease you don't ever really know all the facts, you just know how you feel and how your life has changed. That is all the author is trying to tell you, that and possibly a shouted out warning to be cautious and careful if you are in an area prone to lyme disease.

Actually, the book doesn't even have to be specifically for those dealing with lyme disease, it is for anyone dealing with any given disease that has made them no longer who they once were.

The book is sad and might make you grab a kleenex, especially if you have or know someone with lyme disease (or some other life changing disease). If you do not, you realize how truly fortunate you are and acknowledge that life and your abilities are not meant to be taken for granted.

The book is a valuable read. ... Read more

Product Description
For some of us, myself included, chronic illness can be a cruel and painful road that we're unfortunately forced to walk alone. For in that place we spend far too many years suffering in total isolation where perceptions, prejudices and ignorance dominate every facet of our mortal being. But those of us, who do get through that process by our own volition, have both a right and an obligation to inform the world about the horrors we've endured and the skills we've gained. For in that way, we contribute through our own unique style the very essence of our thoughts, our life experiences and our desires for our fellow man. Because despite populist beliefs, Lymes Disease is not a life sentence and that is a FACT and you can take it from me, for once we understand the rationale behind root cause analysis, we are able to free ourselves from Lymes Disease's grasp and soar once more like the eagles we were born to be. ... Growing up, we sometimes don’t pay attention to the choices we are given. It is only with time that we begin to make them into our own possibilities and dreams. It is an amazing feeling to wake up and realize you are actually living your dream. As a child, I was taught to dream with my whole heart. I suppose I never prepared myself for when life changes so quickly that you barely have time to react. In an instant of fate, life takes you down a road you have never seen before. You feel afraid, timid, and challenged. The truth is, as much as we learn growing up, it truly isn’t until these moments that we see just how much we can overcome and just how amazing life really is. ... Read more

This book is perfect. It is perfectly written and the story perfectly told. There are moments when you feel joy for the author, but there are also moments when you are heartbroken because of the battles that she must fight. However, through it all you learn that she will always continue to fight for the things that she believes in. It is an amazing story that shows we all must continue fighting are own daily struggles. The book was an inspiration to me and I must thank Sally for having the ability to inspire. I cannot express enough the impact that this book has had on me. It would be a cruel injustice for someone to miss the opportunity to read this book. It can help no matter what type of situation you are dealing with.
