4-0 out of 5 stars Bravo for getting the word out about MS and candida!
I have just read Ann Boroch's book, Healing Multiple Sclerosis: Diet, Detox & Nutritional Makeover for Total Recovery, Quintessential Healing, Inc. Publishing, 2007.

First of all, it is wonderful to hear that another person has experienced healing from this terrible disease. We need many more of these stories!Rising Up!: My Recovery from Multiple Sclerosis, Disability and Despair, including Western and Chinese Medicine, Tai Chi, Qigong, diet, neurological exercise, prayer, meditation, love and miracles.

The core thesis of Boroch's book is that overgrowth of candida albicans yeast is the "real cause" of MS. She asserts that MS can be healed by eliminating the yeast and eradicating the toxins that derive from it and that create a great variety of symptoms, not only for MS but for many other diseases and conditions.

Bravo for getting the word out about MS and candida! This is the same diet I used as an essential part of my recovery from MS. I believe my recovery could not have occurred without following a regimen very similar to the one she describes. She also gives many helpful suggestions about products and supplementation that help with the detox and maintenance afterward.

Boroch acknowledges that the candida connection is not well respected by western physicians. However, I personally have found it to be natural and effective for healing and useful in the long term for maintaining health. Whenever I have symptoms, I return to a more rigorous diet and quickly get myself back on track again. It is true that it is a difficult regimen, especially for that first year. Nevertheless, the candida diet is one that will help anyone improve overall health, no matter what the disease or condition; the investment of time and effort is a valuable one.

In addition to the diet, Boroch describes the essential work of deep emotional and psychological healing as part of the path to health; I am in full agreement with the importance of this. Boroch employed extensive counseling and therapy, while I found much of my emotional healing through prayer, Tai Chi and meditation. The path to emotional healing will vary with each individual, so each person needs to find the method that works best.

My experience differs from Boroch's in that my path to healing and rehabilitation was much longer and seemingly more arduous, due to the severity of my disabilities. Boroch's MS experience was acute but did not seem to last many years or become chronic or permanently disabling. The healing approach in her book does not include in-depth descriptions and strategies for long-term rehabilitation. Nor does she describe the social impact of the disease that so many experience. For this reason, Boroch's claim of "Total Recovery" in her title is overstated. Even though the diet was a success for me, I have still not "totally recovered" from MS and have to continually be on alert. I am still working hard on my disabilities. The claim of "total recovery" could result in deeper disappointment and despair for those who try and fail. A claim that would better match my experience is"a valuable part of an overall program of health and recovery."

I am thrilled to see Boroch's book on the market and hope many will benefit from it. Let us all Rise UP! to tell our stories, share our healing and eliminate this disease from the face of the earth!Rising Up!: My Recovery from Multiple Sclerosis, Disability and Despair, including Western and Chinese Medicine, Tai Chi, Qigong, diet, neurological exercise, prayer, meditation, love and miracles.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
I am a patient of Ann Boroch and have been following her plan for some time.
I feel incredible, this has given me new hope when hope was lost.
I recommend this book to anyone with MS and to anyone who wants to live a healthier life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing and VERY helpful Informaton..
I would just like to say that after reading Ann's book it gave hope to me too continue on the path I set out on.
June 23, 2003 I was told I had MS. MRI"S after MRI's and a spinal tap, Went to Mayo Clinic for a second opinion, As I approached My 3rd Neurologist(due to 1 retiring 3 weeks after dx., and 1 ego-centered jerk!)
I decided to approach the disease my way. This new Dr. said she understood my approach(DRUG-FREE), yes I decided not to take any immuno-therapy drugs...
I took steroids upon initial attack, I was after all paralyzed from the breast bone down. After that I refused to take drugs, read anything and everything I could get my eyes on.
I am now approaching my 7 year anniversary, Yes,I celebrate every year that I can move, have never had another attack and have never been healthier!!! Thanks to My hard work lifestyle changes and I TRUELY believe that not taking Any DRUGS made me better, they make you worse. I will go too my grave believing this. Even my Dr. finds it hard to believe!
Thank you Ann for your wisdom and encouragement and the Book, I reccommend to all I know with this illness. Afterall if everyone followed the book and refused drugs, Dr's would be out of work, they want you to have symptoms to write RX"S for and office visits for you to make and they don't want to "CURE" anything, We did!!!!!! By the way I'm female and almost 42 yrs. old.

5-0 out of 5 stars yes, this book is not just for those with MS
I have been familiar with Ann Boroch for many years, since I counseled with her when I had health difficulties before she published a book.

Yes, candida is connected to so many "diseases"-- and so forth. Her dietary measures really helped me so much to get my body into balance. The diet that she recommends is simply an extremely healthy diet for anyone who wishes to prevent disease.

I counseled with her recently again because I have another health challenge. I do not have MS.

I had no intention of buying this book, but I found myself reading it at a bookstore and I could not put it down. It was the right book at the right time for me. I found it so compelling because of not only her story, but her encouragement about letting go of emotional baggage in our lives as a part of the complete healing picture. Her affirmations are so helpful, and her ability to say "it's okay, you don't have to be perfect at this" is so true. Maybe it will be an inspiring book for you as well.

I am grateful to Ann for the work that she has done, and this book is a wonderful and inspiring read for anyone suffering from physical or emotional stress. It is liberating, positive, clear, and very enjoyable to read.

1-0 out of 5 stars This Lady is a Nut
A joke.
Try THE MS RECOVERY DIET. Its written by people who understand that it would be dangerous to claim they've come up with a "cure" for MS. This woman is truly an ego-maniac who claims that she "died" and hovered over her paralyzed body, only to bring herself back to life upon the realization that she still had "more to do". The "more to do" would be to charge you an arm & a leg for a "consultation".
Don't be a sucker. ... Read more

Product Description
A totally revised and updated edition of the first book to offer a holistic approach to slowing the progression of MS

• Provides guidance on special diets and nutritional supplements, exercise, alternative therapies, and the effects of negative and positive thoughts on MS

• Explains how to reduce toxic overload from mercury and chemicals

• Includes life wisdom and coping strategies from others who suffer with MS

Judy Graham is an inspiration. Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis when she was just 26 years old, 35 years later Judy Graham is still walking, working, and has successfully birthed and raised a son who is now an adult. In this totally revised and updated edition of her groundbreaking Multiple Sclerosis, first published in 1984, she shares the natural treatments that have helped her and many others with MS stabilize or even reverse the condition.

Beginning with the effects of diet, she explains that many people with MS have been eating the wrong foods and shows which foods are “good” and “bad,” how to recognize food sensitivities, and how to correct nutritional deficiencies using dietary supplements. She also looks at reducing the body’s toxic overload, whether from mercury amalgam fillings, chemicals, or medications. She presents the exercises with proven benefits for MS she has found most reliable and appropriate, such as yoga, pilates, and t’ai chi, and explores alternative therapies that provide relief and support to the body’s efforts to control MS, including acupuncture, reflexology, shiatsu, reiki, and ayurveda. Most important are the insights she provides on the effects of negative thoughts on MS. She demonstrates how a positive mental attitude can actually slow down or even reverse the progression of this disease. Judy Graham is living proof that, as devastating as a diagnosis of MS is, life can still be lived to its fullest. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars priceless information
Reviewed by Irene Watson for Reader Views (10/10)

Before I read "Managing Multiple Sclerosis Naturally" I knew very little about the disease, yet I do have a friend that has it. She continues to live as normal a life as she can in a wheelchair. According to her doctors the prognosis isn't good.Being an advocate of natural therapies, the title of this book spiked my interest. I wanted to know more so I could help my friend.I'm pleased to say this book didn't disappoint.

I was amazed to find out that dietary factors, such as gluten and dairy as well as digestive problems such as leaky gut and Candida, may be the cause of Multiple Sclerosis. In our western society "wrong diets" are prevalent and, personally, just being told I have Candida made me stop in my tracks when I read that there is a theory that it may cause MS.

Reading further, I found out that "pregnant women with MS often go into remission."As well, there are twice as many women as men that have MS.Graham says "For some women, MS symptoms get worse before menstruation and during menopause," therefore "Progesterone may have profound neuroprotective effects in addition to helping women with MS combat premenstrual tension and menopause symptoms."

Judy Graham, diagnosed with MS at twenty-six, offers a whole gamut of information in "Managing Multiple Sclerosis Naturally" from understanding MS, to nutrition, from physical and complementary therapies, to living a healthy lifestyle. Although I don't have MS I found this book a wealth of information just to help me understand what it is and what steps to take to prevent it.For example, just reading ways to detoxify the body will not only help anyone with MS but also prevent any disease in those that don't have MS.

I believe "Managing Multiple Sclerosis Naturally" is one of the most important books on the market. I highly recommend it to anyone with MS as well as anyone that wants to return their body to a healthy state. The information presented is priceless. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Biased and not comforting
As another reviewer has said below, I was not impressed with the standard of research and referencing in this book. The drug section is indeed heavily biased towards the drug the author is taking and she even goes so far as to claim that other drugs are ineffective for most people-contrary to what the science says. I also found much of the emotional stuff moved too quickly for me- she really only deals with it in the first week, and as someone who has been diagnosed 6 weeks, I am still working towards the positive attitude that I should apparently have already. I also found the month 5 chapter on "life choices" difficult- the majority of stories are about how leaving your (bad) relationship will improve your life and I feel like the author doesn't acknowledge the immense comfort that a supportive partner can provide. I wouldn't recommend you purchase this to get you through the first year- I have found the information and counselling provided by my healthcare team and local MS society to be infinitely more helpful. If you are science-minded however, I found Multiple Sclerosis: The Guide to Treatment and Management to be an excellent evidence-based guide to the treatments out there.

4-0 out of 5 stars good book
I ordered this because a close family member was recently diagnosed with MS.I wanted a better understanding of his experience so that I could be supportive.I read it first, then sent it to him.He said it's good. Lots of good advice.Well written.Author has MS herself. Reads like a memmoir but is embedded with medical and emotional insights along with practical advice.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good starting place for basic MS info
This book was recommended by a friend when I was told I might have MS. It is a good book to start with if you know nothing about the disease and has some helpful info.I also picked up two other MS books Amazon recommended:"MS & your feelings" and "the MS Recovery Diet".Both also had some interesting insight and many personal stories of folks dealing with MS.All three books I just hopped around and read the parts that interested me at the moment.I realize that "one size fits all" advice does not apply with MS.MS patients' symptoms are extremely individualized and often quite different from person to person. I have since been "officially" diagnosed with the disease; I have found reading & researching did help me feel more hopeful, gave me more understanding about my future living with the disease, and made me realize there are many aspects of it I do have control over.

5-0 out of 5 stars MS The first year( newly diagnosed)
I was recently diagnosed with MS 6 months ago. This book was the best book anyone in my position could have read.It was so helpful to me. I am in the process of sending the book to my parents who live in another state, so they too can understand the complexity of this disease.Hats off to the author.....

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource
Truly everything you need to know. I wish there was a book like this with Canadian information in it, but this one does answer most questions. It is a HEAVY book, and thick. If you are having trouble comprehending things, you might want to start with "Multiple Sclerosis for Dummies" by the same author.Simpler, more white space, same good information.
Oh, and if you are just starting on the MS journey, this book might scare you a bit. The details of advanced MS can lead you into dark passages. Dip in as you need it and don't read it cover to cover....

5-0 out of 5 stars The best overall reference text for questions about Multiple Sclerosis
This book answers most of your questions about MS with short, readable, and reliable answers.Very good indexing and cross referencing to related questions helps to find the right question to ask for the information you want.More expensive than other MS books, but packed with far more content. We use this book all the time in my MS support group.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best
I bought this book for a friend who was recently diagnosed with MS. At that point, neurologists and specialized MS-nurses are constantly all over you. This irritates my friend especially when her questions are not answered quickly and fully. That is where the book comes in. My friend says the book is better than her neurologist and the MS-nurse put together.

5-0 out of 5 stars An important consumer's handbook

Each chapter also includes a list of references and recommended reading, along with a glossary of terms and resource list, making Multiple Sclerosis an important consumer's handbook with readily-accessible details for concerned non-specialist general readers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best MS Reference Book

I keep going back to it again and again as I have questions, and despite other reviewers' comments, I felt it was up to date when I purchased it. 5-0 out of 5 stars This is the ultimate MS reference
When I was newly diagnosed 2 years ago, my fiancee and I were completely shocked and did not even know what MS was.

We started reading books and I purchased probably around $200.00 in books at the time, hoping to get a thorough understanding of this, and this book was one of them.

This book was the best to outline as well as the least intimidating of all of those books. And it was probably the thinnest too!Granted, it did not cover every single detail of MS, it gave us enough information to at least feel somewhat comfortable again, knowing more about what I would be dealing with.

I highly recommend this book to anyone newly diagnosed, or to loved ones, or even people who have had it a while and need a refresher or just a good overview because they never quite got it in the broad sense. I am still passing it around to family, and have gotten nothing but good reviews on it, not to mention it has helped me not to answer so many questions!

5-0 out of 5 stars Never Wanted to Read a Manifesto... but this was worth it
The author addresses many issues that are passed over, and waved on as no big deal. She explains what the "big deal" is about every type of symptom and even though it is easy to perceive some of her personal feelings and experiences, she hits the nail on the head over and over. Furthermore, for anyone who has lived with Multiple Sclerosis, they will agree it is PERSONAL! This book may be one of those, that requires the right time to read it.

MS changes everything:

A review from Mohamed:
My sister was diagnosed with MS six years ago. Living in a 3rd World County with such a disease is very difficult. You do not know if you where diagnosed and treated correctly. Such a book will make a big difference to people like my sister. Fortunately she can read and write English so she will be able to benefit from Dr. Stachowiak work. Most of all she can trust every thing in it. The book has a lot of substance. It is based on both scientific and first hand experience with the disease. Dr. Stachowiak did a great job. I wish this work and similar works could be translated to other languages so people in other countries can benefit from such a good and through work.
On behalf of my sister and all MS patients, which will definitely benefit from this work, I salute DR. Stachowiak and wish her the best of luck.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for MS and More
I've already given this book to several friends and relatives -- some with MS and others with other conditions and they all thank me for it. The book covers the details about multiple sclerosis in a smart, but understandable way. Meanwhile, the rest of the book shakes the reader up to take control of MS (or anything else) and figure out how to live one's best with an illness. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars There is a 2008 revised update edition of this splendid book.
This has always been a terrific book for those who are interested in information aplenty, clarity without condescension, clinical objectivity and a positive attitude.

The 2008 update takes account of research and therapeutic disease-modifying drugs unavailable earlier.

The attitude is Rosner's own:he had polio when young, and has lived with leg-and arm-braces.He believes(He was my neurologist 1976-88.)

The 2008 edition is available in paperback and Kindle formats.

5-0 out of 5 stars He treated my father over 40 years ago
I was in the library and happen to notice this book written by Dr. Rosner who treated my father over 40 years ago.My father was a young man as Dr. Rosner must have been.My father passed away when I was 12, I am now 50 and as I scanned through the book it gladdened my heart to read how gentle and compassionate Dr. Rosner came across and I would like to think he gave my father this type of care.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great support
This book has been very enlightening for me. It was a great read and gave me courage as well as hope in a cure for MS.It is a definite must-read for the newly-diagnosed.

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this book
This book was the book I should NOT have read when I was dxed. It stated that MS does not produce pain. It frustrated me and I thoughtgreat,I have two diseases. Why am I in so much pain?
I hope the newer editions have deleted this misleading information.

5-0 out of 5 stars Solid and informative
I was diagnosed with MS 6 years ago... by the author, Louis Rosner, M.D. at UCLA. I continued as his patient until he retired 3 1/2 years later. The
funny thing is, I had checked the earlier edition of this book out of the library while going through the diagnostic process with another neurologist and
was very impressed with its straightforward overview of the disease and its impact on the individual and their families. It lays out the facts and vagaries
of this chronic, life-changing disease without terrible gloom and doom, but also without a hint of condescention or fluff. He manages to tell you the
range of signs, symptoms, and the disability they may cause-from mild to severe-that can happen to a person with MS without unduly alarming
someone new to it. He also reviews case histories of a number of patients he had followed over the years, which I found very enlightening, as it shows
just how MS can affect people so differently.

I'd made my appointment at UCLA with one of their "MS specialists," and only later realized it was the author. I was lucky-I cannot imagine a
neurologist explaining MS to me (in person, as well as in the book) any better than Dr. Rosner. Because this edition of the book (1992) is the latest
available, and Dr. Rosner is now retired, I have no idea if there are any plans for an updated edition. I would love to see one, but even though the book
does not touch on the new immunomodulating and chemo therapies now widely used in treating MS, it remains an extremely useful book in any "MS
library." I have yet to read a better, overall explanation of this baffling disease, and have recommended it to many.

Incidentally, the new therapies not covered in this book, were initially available only beginning in the early 90s, and then, only through a lottery. This is
why they are not touched on in this book. ... Read more

Dr. Howard Weiner has spent nearly three decades trying to find answers to the mysteries of multiple sclerosis, an utterly confounding and devastating disease that afflicts almost half a million Americans. 5-0 out of 5 stars A biography of a dragon by the knight charged with slaying it.
In a way, you could read this book as a biography of an illness, as told by a foot soldier in the battle against it.Dr. Weiner's observations, not only in clinics and labs, but in the lives of those he sees who are affected by MS are endearing, thought-provoking and eye opening. This book really lays bare the frustrations of patients and doctors dealing with this illness.A must-read for anyone who is or knows someone living with MS.
I look forward to an update on this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must read for MS patients
Want to know why your MS meds cost so much.Take a look into the world of MS research.I read this book five years ago after initial diagnosis and was thrilled to re-read the updated version.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must read ifyou or someone close to you has MS.
If you have been recently diagnosed with MS.This is the first book you should read.If you have MS and have not read this book, you should.

I've had MS for over 20 years, and keeping up with all treatment optionscan be difficult. This book will give you a solid foundation for understanding what makes MS "tick". There are many miracle cures, claims based on lack ofsound scientific proof for MS.This book helps you get through all of that "noise" with clear information on the disease. Reading this book will help you understand MS, and if so, be a more knowledgeable patient.

This book is very informative about the history of MS treatment and research. Its causes, current reatment options, and research.Often frustrating for those with MS, is how long its taking to find a "cure".This book explains the road of research and treatment. There is some medical jargon, not daunting, it is well written for the patient and medical professionals.

Tips: For quick reference, keep an index card handy to write down some acronyms used throughout the book. You don't really need one for this book, but I have found having my paperback copy of Merriam-Webster's Medical Dictionary handy, helps during reading books and articles on any medical condition.

5-0 out of 5 stars A thoroughly "user friendly" compendium of information, advice and resources for families having to deal with this disease
Now in a newly updated and expanded third edition, Multiple Sclerosis: A Guide For Families by clinical psychologist Rosalind C. Kalb (Director of the Professional Resource Center, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, New York) is a thoroughly "user friendly" compendium of information, advice and resources for families having to deal with this debilitating and progressive disease. Of special note are two new chapter editions: "Planning for Possible Care Needs" and "Parenting A Child Or Teen with MS". Multiple Sclerosis: A Guide For Families draws upon specialists from the fields of neurology, general medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, psychology, social work, law, and people with MS. Enhanced with a comprehensive list of readings and resource, this is the primary resource most especially recommended for non-specialist general readers having to deal with MS issues.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hand this to your family and your spouse.
By addressing issues such as sex and emotions, Rosalind Kalb has made it possible for people to use this book as reference to discuss topics with their families and spouses that may be difficult.

Not only was this book helpful for me, it aided my husband and family in understanding the challenges a person with MS faces on a daily basis, some of which may be undetectable to the human eye.

This book provided my husband and family with a way to adapt to the new parts they would play in our relationships becuase of the MS.

I recommend each person with MS hand this book to their family, friends and spouse, then quietly walk away.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great source of information for both the professional and lay person
Great book.Well written, interesting, concise, informative.Presents all published medical studies and offers the fact-based opinion on most types of CAM.I'm very glad I purchased it, and I don't know why I didn't sooner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Up-to-Date Essential Reference
My doctor recommended this book and author. The doctor who wrote the book has researched everything from vitamins and herbs, to acupuncture, to the treatments about which we hear wonderful reports. Each potential therapy is explained. The author is honest about which therapies have been scientifically studied. He's forthright about some therapies that activate the immune system (causing possible problems in MS).He admits some therapies look promising, but need further study. He appears to be objective, yet will let the reader know of reports that sound promising, but have not been scientifically studied. As I read the book the first time I crossed out suggested treatments that are harmful and marked some to discuss with my doctor.
This book compiles a large amount of information into a ready reference source.Unlike many references, it is compact and easy to handle. It is organized alphabetically by therapy. The author explains each, tells what studies have been done in MS or reports that have been made.Dr. Bowling mentions the symptoms (if any)for which the therapy has proven effective. He explains potential side effects. Then he offers a conclusion based on that information.
This book is a "must have" for anyone with MS who wants to explore options outside of the traditional approved medical courses of action. It is not designed to take the place of traditional medicine, rather as a supplement.I highly recommend this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars CAM therapy for MS
This book is a rather disappointing overall review of all the current literature already published about CAM and MS.
Essentially, there isn't anything new and unusual in this entire book. The author has merely linked all the curent theories together and listed the pros and cons of each, relative to MS.

Nothing new, nothing startling nothing of pending scientific value.
Old phrases on an old subject matter.

If you have MS, save your money for a book that actually has something to say, not one that merely repeats what others have already published. A waste of money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent choice
This book is exactly what I needed. I was already using herbs instead of drugs. This book helps me focus on what I really need to be taking to help my condition stay in remission. I was directed to this book, and glad I don't question the intuition.

5-0 out of 5 stars Learned a lot
I read this book while waiting to get in to see the MS Specialist to see if I had MS. I had never really paid attention to MS, at least the details of how it effects a person. As a person in recovery from alcohol and drugs, I wanted to see what alternatives exist.

I found the book full of hope. Got a good explaination of the disease and what it is. I like the fact that Dr. Bowling gives both sides of the arguement for a particular treatment and explains the type of studies done on it.

Once I got in to see the specialist, he was aware of this book and open to listening to my questions and discussing different alternatives. The MS Center offered some CAM mentioned in the book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great read, whether you have MS or if you're just a fan
As a kid, I always thought of Lenny and Squiggy as the two dolts that live upstairs from Laverne & Shirley. I've been watching the DVD collections of the show with my kids and I've noticed something. Usually, I grade papers when I watch TV (one of the perks, lots of papers!) and I find myself listening to Laverne & Shirley, but I stop and WATCH Lenny and Squiggy. Squiggy, in particular, is in constant motion and always doing something weird/quirky/downright odd and inappropriate!

So, I was inspired to find this book and read more about Lander's struggle with MS. Plus, it's always interesting to see how someone made it to the big time.

Both parts of those parts of the book are interesting and a pleasure to read. I enjoyed myself thoroughly and blasted through the book in no time.

If you are a fan of David Lander I recommend the following:

Laverne & Shirley - The Complete First Season and Oswald - On-the-Go Oswald / Oswald - Welcome to Big City!. Lander voices Henry, the persnickety penguin who can't do anything particularly athletic with the slogan is "sl-o-o-w and steady." (sound familiar?)

5-0 out of 5 stars Fall Down Laughing!
I listened to the audio version as I drove myself to Cleveland Ohio.If people passed me on the road they probably thought I was nuts.I was laughing so hard at spots. For someone that does not have MS and wants a personal glimpse I recommend they read or listen to this book. Some parts made me sad also but it hit the nail right on the head.It was like yeah I have that problem or yeah I think that before I do it.Great book Squiggy!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have ... for people familiar with MS
I have Multiple-Sclerosis and purchased thislast summer, thinking I would listen to it over a week or two of drive time.During a driving trip up north, my husband and I listened to the entire thing. There isn't any valuable medical information on here, but the emotions he puts you thru as you listen, is worth every penny. It was good to laugh along with him. A great story teller!

4-0 out of 5 stars many useful tips
Many useful tips. Some of them are gender specific (female) which limited the utility for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical and helpful
Out of the many books I've read regarding MS, this, by far, has proven to be the most helpful. Whether they are things found around the house or to-order, this book provides a wonderful wealth of resources to aid in living with not only MS but other conditions as well.

The extensiveness of addressing all the facets of coping daily is great. Whether it's personal care, traveling, getting dressed or simply opening a door, the tips are extremely helpful, affordable and achievable. ... Read more

Product Description

In this elegantly written and comprehensive history, we meet individuals who suffered with multiple sclerosis in the centuries before the disease had a name, including blessed Lidwina of Holland, who took joy from her misery, believing that she was sent to accept suffering for the sins of others; Augustus, grandson of George III and cousin of Queen Victoria, whose case shows how someone with access to the best of medical care of the age was understood and managed; and Heinrich Heine, the great German poet, who also had access to all medical services that were available, but who progressed into his mattress grave in two decades, aware of the loss of physical ability while still able to compose great poetry to the end. From these early cases the author demonstrates how progress in diagnosing and managing multiple sclerosis has paralleled the development of medical science, from the early developments in modern studies of anatomy and pathology, to the framing of the disease in the nineteenth century, and eventually to modern diagnosis and treatment.

I am always interested in learning as much as I can about the ins and outs of this disease I have.

5-0 out of 5 stars A 'must' for any serious health collection
Plenty of facts appear in a great many medical guides to multiple sclerosis; but Dr. T. Jock Murray's Multiple Sclerosis: The History Of A Disease is one of the few to provide an accurate and accessible history of the disease. This is a survey of individuals who suffered with MS centuries before it had a name, of the discoveries and management techniques which eventually led to its diagnosis and treatment, and of the medical science which contributed a better understanding of MS. A 'must' for any serious health collection.

4-0 out of 5 stars Exercises for Multiple Sclerosis
I would like to buy this book, but don't understand why the price for a $16.00 book is as much as $189.00 on your site. The lowest price I saw was $77.00.

5-0 out of 5 stars Briliant
Brilliant is the word I would use for the exercises in this book. I have been doing them since i got the book and I found them to be of great benefit to me. If you want to have one book in your collect on the subject of Muliple Sclerosis then this is the book for you. Imelda.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not helpful
I was diagnosed 1.5 years ago with MS.I was already working with as trainer (and have worked out on and off for 26 years.) This book gave me NO new knowledge. It discussed basic workouts, but did not let me know which muscle groups would be more beneficial to work to improve MS progression and why.Since I have taken kinesiology, anatomy and physiology I found it very simplistic and annoying. If you have no background working out, it may be helpful. However, if you have any experience working out, I would not pay for this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars MS HOPE
Very informative. If you suffer from M.S. as I do this book could help provide some help as it has to me.

1-0 out of 5 stars A rip-off for people who are fighting MS
Exercises for Multiple Sclerosis: A Safe and Effective Program to Fight Fatigue, Build Strength, and Improve Balance (Exercises for)

As an MS patient who, like most, must use money wisely, this book was the worst purchase I have ever made.It is a total rip-off!It is regurgitated information about MS that even the most minimally educated patient knows. Then, the exercises are not designed for MS patients with their balance, numbness and pain problems but are generic exercises that can be found anywhere in a book, on the Internet or on a simple video DVD.

Save your money! ... Read more
