Excerpt: Compartment syndrome is a medical term which refers to the compression of nerves, blood vessels and muscle inside a closed space (compartment) within the body. This leads to tissue death due to lack of oxygenation as the blood vessels are compressed by the raised pressure within the compartment. Compartment syndrome most commonly involves the forearm and lower leg. It can be divided into acute, subacute or chronic compartment syndrome. Because the connective tissue that defines the compartment does not stretch, a small amount of bleeding into the compartment, or swelling of the muscles within the compartment, can cause the pressure to rise greatly. Common causes of compartment syndrome include tibial or forearm fractures, ischemic reperfusion following injury, hemorrhage, vascular puncture, intravenous drug injection, casts, prolonged limb compression, crush injuries and burns. Another possible cause can be the use of creatine monohydrate; a history of creatine use has been linked to this condition. Compartment syndrome can also occur following surgery in the Lloyd Davis lithotomy position, where the patient's legs are elevated for prolonged periods. As of February 2001, any surgery that is expected to take longer than six hours to complete must include Compartment Syndrome on its list of post-operative complications. Useful, but read Dr Sarno's books first !
This book can be a useful tool for people already familiar with Dr Sarno's approach and books (The Divided Mind and The MindBody Prescription), but I would strongly recommend to read Dr Sarno's books first. BTW, if you happen to read a review here linking this book to yoga and warning Christians against it, don't pay any attention to it. This book is not about yoga at all, and the review in question is... weird, to say the least, and completely misleading. I actually did report about it to Amazon, because it's more spam than review, really.

Pain Cure Book Based Mostly On New Age Philosophy and Eastern Religion - Astanga Yoga & Hatha Yoga
This book is written with a strong influence of New Age philosophy, Eastern Mysticism, Astanga Yoga (the word ashtanga refer specifically to the eight spiritual practices outlined by the sage Patanjali in the Yoga Sutra) and Hatha Yoga all mingled together.

In Hinduism there are many different forms of "Yoga" which are paths of practice and Astanga Yoga & Hatha Yoga are one of many that leads the aspirant to the ultimate goal of union with divinity (Hindu gods) and the unity of all of Creation.

Astanga Yoga & Hatha Yoga are in reality a pagan import from the East, yoga has now become mainstream in the church through "Christ-centered yoga classes" designed to help improve spirituality and experience "the presence of God". But PLEASE BEWARE as yoga's mysticism is NOT compatible with historic Christianity no matter how it is packaged!

PS: In all fairness I must add that the book has some very good insights and valuable information on healing from TMS if one knows how to eat the hay and spit out the sticks, they can benefit from the book. If all the suggestions in the book were followed you would be dabbling in Eastern mysticism and as a Christian I feel Christians should be warned.

A strong Christian could probably read the book, discern the mysticism and befit from the book.A weaker Christian could possible be sucked into pagan religious practices and disciplines if all suggestions in the book are followed.My advice is, if you read the book be cautious not to accept the New Age influence or Easter religious disciplines. ... FANTASTIC BOOK - TOLDMEEVERYTHING I WANTED TO KNOW
This book was delivered as promised via Amazon.com. I could not put the book down for a few days until I read it. It told me everything I wanted to know about Autoimmune diseases and more, and gave me much more appreciation for my Rheumatologists Doctors Philip Sedrish and Marielisa Sedrish at Gulfcoast Rheumatology at Slidell Memorial Hospital. They have been doing everything like clock work with me and I have been a very trying case for especially for Dr Philip Sedrish. These doctors are definitely experts in Rheumatology and all the other Auto-Immune Neuromuscular and Skin Diseases such as (RA, PM, DM, IBM, Sjogrens, Scleroderma, Lupus, ALS, etc...) that go along with their specialty. They referred me to the best specialists: Dermatology - Dr Eric Tabor; Cardiology - Dr Ignatius Thomas; Pulmonology - Doctor Dennis Dale and Doctor Janine Parker; Opthamology- Dr David Slagle; Gastroenternology - Dr Anthony Albright. These doctors all work well with each other and me to address all my symptoms associated with Dermatomyositis, Sjogrens, and Psoriasis. Thanks to these doctors, I have not had to drive 100 miles a trip to the MDA Clinic at Children'sHospital in New Orleans or even further as may others end up doing.
