Striking Back: The Trigeminal Neuralgia Handbook (Unabridged
Excellent book for someone who has never gone thru the pain of Trigeminal Neuralgia.However it should be read/studied along with someone who has had the experience of TN.There are comments in the book about trying different cures that could be very detrimental to a person looking for a long term cure.The best cure is the Microvascular Decompression (Janetta procedure).Any other suggested procedure (Gamma Knife, acupuncture, radio beams, injections, etc.) will cause the patient to be turned away by a neuro-surgeon because the surgeon will not operate on someone elses failures or mistakes.Read with care!!

An Important support for sufferers and their famlies
I hav e had a copy of this book for some time.For 10 years during the late 60s and early 70s, I suffered Trigeminal Neuralgia and had negative reactions to all drugs I was given.Finally I had a Microvsascular decompression of the nervewhich brought relief from the indescribable pain with no bad side effects.At that time there weren't the reosurces for support or information that exist today, and when I discovered the Trigeminal Neuralgia Associatio, I became a suppporter of the organization where I learned of this book.Its a wonderful source of support and information I wish had been available to me many years ago.

Recently I developed TN again on the opposite side.Remembering how upsetting my condition was for my husband and son, I purchased a 2nd copy of this book for my son and daughter in law to help them understand my condition.

I highly recommend this book for TN sufferers, their famlies and friends and health care pro0viders of TN sufferers.

Bought this book on trigeminal neuralgia for my mother-in-law. She absolutely loved it because it was written in plan english easy for the patient to understand. It was also filled with hope that relief may be within reach. She now feels like she is not in the dark anymore with this illness.Highly recommend.

If ya got TN, you gotta get this book.
I have TN and right before I went for my MVD surgery, I studied this book like the TN bible. While my MVD experience was a true nightmare to say the least, this book helped me understand what was going to be done while I got this surgery. I developed another neuralgia from the MVD, and this book went into detail about that one as well.

If you can buy only one get "Striking Back..." instead
A disappointing book with so many grammatical and typological errors that one wonders how it made it through editing. In some cases the mistakes are clinically significant and potentially confusing unless one already knows some of the material. There is not much that is new here, a primer of what can already be found online. In some ways it is worse than searching online because there is no index. It's impossible to find the areas of particular interest, such as the latest medication to try. For those uncomfortable with internet searching I recommend one of the other titles.

Treatment overview and summarized stories
For treatment information and patient experience overviews this is a very good book.If you are looking for one person's story of life with trigeminal neuralgia and the personal day to day struggles to overcome it I recommend Carol Jay Levy's A PAINED LIFE, a chronic pain journey, characterized by the American Chronic Pain Association as "hard to put down." and by Stephen Hall, A NY Times magazine writer, as "A fascinating story, honestly told and courageously lived."

This is a must-read for anyone with TN
This book provides a comprehensive summary on many options for the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia. I found it to be very useful in understanding the condition. Highly recommended!

Source Book, Research Handbook
As anyone knows who has TN, there is always an answer to a problem around the corner.I thought this book would have some of those answers waiting for me.Instead it is a research guide to finding your way through the maze of scientific date concerning this curious and painful malady.Somewhat disapointing, but then again it really is a research tool.In that respect it provides a considerable amount of data all in one place.

This is exceedinlgy helpful information and it is nice to have it compiled in one place.
I would also like to recommend the book - A Pained Life, a chronic pain journey,(ISBN 1-4134-0609-2)- which goes to the next step; a first person account of what it is like, struggling day to day, treatment to treatment and the emotional toll and fight for acceptance from others, family and medical community.
