Product Description
When doctors told Dorothy Williams she was dying of cancer, this pastor-evangelist-seminary president's wife immediately set up "house rules" for her family to follow. These included a "No Secrets" mandate and her pledge to live life to the fullest till the end. Energetic and optimistic, Dorothy wanted to model for her family and friends how a Christian dies. Her daughter, Sandee Williams, describes her mother's life and death in ways that capture as well as educate readers.

This book is ideal for family members struggling with a loved one's terminal condition as well as for the person who is facing death.

This is a revised second edition of this book. The first edition sold more than 25,000 copies mostly though ministry of Dorothy Williams' husband, evangelist Gene Williams, a former president of Luther Rice Seminary. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Accessible, Informative and Down to Earth
Without question, Martha Lanier is one of the most upbeat, positive personalities around. Her reflections about battling breast cancer are offered with candor and even laugh-out-loud humor though the topic is certainly a serious one. While those newly diagnosed might read the book cover-to-cover (devouring each word and taking notes), this book is also a great reference guide for those of us not battling breast cancer but instead supporting a loved one who is. Someone you know will take this journey; put this book on your bookshelf immediately so that you will be ready.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pink Ribbons Cancers Answers
Everyone has been affected by Cancer in some way.The author of the book Cancers Answers not only dealt with his sister's journey to her Heavenly home, but has allowed people all over the world to share their stories as well. This book is a written memorial to those whose name is on a Heavenly roll, emotions poetically expressed, factual information about a universal disease, and more importantly a way for survivors to share their experience of coping, fighting, and winning a hard battle. This book is a wonderful addition to any library and would make an excellent gift for those who are coping with a recent diagnosis.

This book is a great investment to any book collection and will most certianly gain value with more volumes comming and as it gets older. The shear love put in a simple but yet complexed book shows love, support and growth to the survivors as well as the power of families and friends who submitted the names of a loved one who lost the battle to cancer in the dedication chapter. The poems offset the book as individuals shared their writing in poetic form. Cant wait to see the next series in print. This truely is a inspirational asset dedicated to cancer battling warriors of all ages. Editorial Review

Product Description
A novel about the inescapable bonds of family and personal history, Pink Slip asks the question, in love, what must we reveal about ourselves?

Twenty-five-year-old Lisa Diodetto needed a change. Her job editing holocaust memoirs for a prestigious New York publishing company barely paid the rent, and an ill-thought out affair with a married man had left her flattened by the wheels of romance. At the urging of her first cousin and lifelong best friend Dodie, she left New York for a job upstate in the editorial department of a big pharmaceutical company. It was a clean slate far from her working class upbringing in an Italian-American New Haven neighborhood, and she planned to make the most of it.

Enter Mr. Eben Strauss, Vice-President of Corporate Development. A man of careful composure, a restrained sense of humor, and impeccable manners. A man who certainly wouldn't appreciate Lisa's big mouth and hot temper. A man who would never dream of compromising his position or anyone else's with any kind of workplace impropriety. A man surprisingly attracted by--and attractive to--Lisa.

The relationship that ensues illustrates the very real dangers of falling in love-particularly falling in love with your boss, particularly falling in love with a boss who doesn't know the half of your personal history. Lisa is embarrassed to tell Strauss about her past--her crazy family, her wild escapades with Dodie--but she soon discovers that Strauss is keeping secrets, too. How both of them try to accept the truth about each other makes for a funny, sharp, and moving novel about the difficulties of intimacy and the imperfections of love.Amazon.com Review
New York editorial jobs, especially entry-level ones, can be a drag. LisaDiodetto, the twentysomething narrator of Rita Ciresi's Pink Slip, iswell aware of this, having had her fill of dismal manuscripts and pitifulpaychecks. So Lisa gives up on the supposed romance of publishing, ditchingher job for a corporate position in a leafy suburb somewhere along theHudson, where she edits things such as brochures and correspondences for BoormanPharmaceuticals. The problem is that Lisa is a hot-blooded Italian Americangirl whose best friend is her gay cousin, Dodie. Even as she wants to shedtheir old ways--pot smoking and a shared habit of dating no-good men--shedoesn't exactly try to integrate into corporate culture.

Lisa's skirts are on the too-short side, she uses office hours to work on asex-filled novel about corporate life, and she starts dating someonein senior management. He, Eben Strauss, is Jewish and straight-laced--afoil to Lisa's naughty Catholic-girl persona. On a date to West Point, she notices that "Strauss wore a pair of tortoise shell prescriptionglasses that made me want to jump him. As he carefully inspected thefoldout map of the grounds we picked up at the visitors' informationcenter, I speculated whether he always took his glasses off before he movedin for the kill, or if he had even been so swept away he left them onthrough the entire act." Needless to say, Strauss wants to visit WestPoint's chapels while Lisa wants to view the cadets.

Lisa likes to think that she doesn't want to be the baby-hungry wife thather older, married sister has become. But the fact is that she craves ahusband and a home and eventually a kid as much as her ordinary Italianrelatives do. What makes Pink Slip appealing is the way in whichRita Ciresi shows how Lisa juggles her modern aspirations and Old Worlddesires. It's a tricky tightrope to walk. --Katherine Alberg ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I've read this twice so far
I have read this book, twice. After I read it the first time I asked myself `why did I like this book so much?' and a year later I read it again. Lately I've been thinking of this book again and wondering if I need to read it again. With that thinking I've now decided on why I like this book. The characters and situations are completely relatable and understandable.

The Characters: I empathize and relate to them very well. Lisa is in her 20s at a job that is OK but she doesn't like that much. She gets finally gets up the courage to make a change and jet a new job, hoping that things will be better. Also there is her family's opinion of her; the not so good - why are you not married with kids yet? And the better - look how independent you are! Then there is the relationship with her cousin who is also her best friend. I have relatives who are also my friends and I know how hard it would be to see them go through something tragic.

Then there is Eben. As the son of holocaust survivors I can't relate but I do understand living up to expectations, and familial duties real and imagined.

The Love Story: there is no love at first sight or exciting courtship - it is real. They see each other regularly at work and get to know each other. Their discoveries about each other help them to really connect and become closer. Their first few dates are awkward and very true to real life. This is how real people stumble into being friends and later lovers.

3-0 out of 5 stars Lots of Dichotomies
I found this a strange and contradictory, but ultimately enjoyable book.

I was really hooked in to this book and the writing - I stayed up WAY to late to finish it, and yet felt frusterated by the way many issues were tied up.Contrary to some reviewers, I found the main character, Lisa, very realistic and sympathetic.I did wonder repeatedly WHAT she found appealing in her love interest, Strauss.I kept rooting for the relationship to end.I could not help wonder how miserable she would be in another 5 years, after the "happy ending".

It was strange that an author that seemed so clearly PRO a strong female character and pro her complicated, openminded outlook on life would resort to sublimating her to an egotistical, controlling, narrowminded, unempathetic character.Long before the book was over, I was dreading what I feared would be the ending (and I was right). There is so much promise for the story to resolve in (my opinion) a better way, but as I read I saw my hopes slipping away.

I agree that it is strange that Lisa has no friends other than her cousin, her strongest ally and champion. Why oh why did he push her to stay with someone so clearly BAD for her?The relationship with her cousin was so much healthier and satisfying, that I kept hoping (in a bizarre way) that they would somehow get together - of course this is not possible, so I hoped that he would help lead her down a happier path.NO GO.In fact I resented the conclusion that he had held her back.It seemed to me that she was lonly so just settled with someone in order to survive her grief.

Too bad.I hate to see Lisa turn into a mirror image of her mother in 30yrs.I suppose you could call this realistic, a lot of people marry the wrong person for the wrong reason, I just hoped for better.

I agree with other reviewers who were curious about her family relationships and would have liked to see these developed more.

Overall, I would read another Ciresi book, in fact, look forward to it, I just hope it's a little more optomistic in it's view of "happy endings."

PS I do agree that the Lesbian boss was a complete stick-in-the-mud steriotype.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fine writer
I've read some of Rita Ciresi's other books, so her style wasn't a surprise. Her books offer a nice change of pace from the usual mindless cotton-candy fluff of the "chick lit" genre-- this is not your "shopaholic"-type book!
(Incidently, my library's copy of the book featured a different cover- it could be called more "serious" I suppose)

Yes, sometimes it was a bit plodding-- but life's like that sometimes, and that's what I like about Ciresi's style. She's a very fine writer, and I admire her work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic read!
After all of the "chick lit" duds I have been reading lately, this is a breath of fresh air.I was so engrossed that I tried desperately to read it through in one sitting, but life would not allow me to, so it took me a couple of days.

I loved it.It's believeable, well written, and positively great!Lisa(r) is a strong character, and "watching" her grow up and learn to love was heartbreaking at times, and make me cheer for her at others.

Cheers to Rita Ciresi for writing such a great book about a young woman who finds herself, instead of a fairytale, in the end.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful! A "Chick Lit" book with meat
I loved it -- from the cover it does seem to be a fluffy, "chick lit" book, and it is fun, but it also has a serious side. Lisa Diodetto (yes, it means "God said" in Italian, which is interesting given Lisa's moral dilemmas) is grappling with the issues a lot of young women deal with today..establishing a career, moving to a suburb from a city (or vice versa), finding a meaningful love interest after a string of meaningless ones, trying to deal with her mixed feelings toward her family, etc.

She has a wonderful, funny and close relationship with her gay cousin, which provides much of the comic relief and funny lines of the novel, but I particularly loved the whole exploration of the office romance...especially, one between a subordinate and boss.So what happens if two people in that situation really do fall in love (and it does happen quite often in the real world)?

I also especially enjoyed the parts about Lisa's dealings with her family, which are not ideal...I think many people can relate to the whole less-than-perfect family situation.

I agree with the reviewer who said the first 30 pages or so were slower, but it does get much more absorbing after that.

Thanks to Ms. Ciresi for writing such an entertaining and yes, thoughtful book for women both young and old.I hope she writes many more!I will buy any of them.

A compelling and inspirational book for anyone struggling with a compromised health condition or chronic illness. It invokes strength and hope through a personal story of a traumatic event and experience of near-death and after return, recovery through will and determination to a greater life- both of the physical and spiritual sense. This book is well written and a must read!

5-0 out of 5 stars Grateful for the Life-giving Gift
This is a wonderfully inspiring and reassuring story.Mary Jo has given us a generous and lovely gift, sharing so much of her journey. And the writing, with thecollaboration of Mary Harper, is superb.I know the writing is very good when I can imagine that I am right there in the experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Teachable Moments
As a psychotherapist and art therapist, I was impressed with how Mary's near-death experience brought her to what we call a "teachable moment," that space in which we suddenly perceive life in a radically different way.The book reinforces the value of connectedness--within ourselves, to our families and friends, and to God, however we might perceive God to be.I found myself grateful for Mary Jo, and the grace that she is able to extend by being present to people she encounters during their teachable moments. This book is short and simply written, yet speaks volumes.I recommend it to anyone in the health profession seeking to understand the connection between health and spirituality.

4-0 out of 5 stars Is God PInk?Dying to Heal
Mary Jo Rapini's intimate story of suffering and recovering from a brain aneurysm is nothing short of inspirational and speaks of the important role played by family, friends, and health care professionals in the healing process. Even those of us who identify as agnostic or atheist can respect and learn from Rapini's need to put her faith in a God as she bravely confronts her own mortality. Is God Pink? Dying to Heal, is a beautifully written and carefully constructed book. A worthwhile read for anyone who has ever faced a serious health crisis.

It's informative to know what other treatments are available , be it traditional medicine or non. The knowledge to know what is healthy for your body, to know what you put into your body and how it affects your body is simply priceless. Her strength it took to take charge of the cancer, to not allow it to consume her spirit, heart and soul is truly a life changing moment. This book moved me to tears . It gives new meaning to the phrase "take time to stop and smell the roses".

Product Description
Tickle Me Pink is a collection of light-hearted and positive poems about the cancer journey. If you are a cancer patient or cancer survivor, you will identify with the humorous and hopeful tone of this slender little volume. These poems celebrate the small victories of living each day with cancer. They laugh at the unlaughable and give voice to both your fears and your joys. In just a few lines these poems manage to express what you wanted to say but couldn't quite put into words.

If you are a support person or friend or loved one of a cancer patient, Tickle Me Pink makes a wonderful gift for the newly diagnosed, for the person under active treatment, or for the long-term survivor. Sized to fit neatly into a pocket or purse, it will be a welcome companion.

The poems in Tickle Me Pink range from the silly (It's All About the Ta-Tas) to the sweet (Silver Linings) to the cute but practical (May I Please See Your I.D.?) to the grateful (The Source of Strength) to the outrageously funny (The Unexpected Effects of Radiation). Tickle Me Pink is a delightful book! ... Read more
