5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ
In May 2009, I was presented with Prostate Cancer and told that I required a radical prostatectomy.I learned about The Dattoli Cancer Center and read The Dattoli Blue Ribbon Prostate Cancer Solution. In conjunction with discussions with men who had undergone prostatectomies, I realized that surgery was not how I wanted to fight my cancer. In July 2009, I was re biopsied and informed that I in fact did not have cancer. Every man needs to read this book and acquire the necessary information to help them make an informed decision when told they have Prostate Cancer.G L Spence

5-0 out of 5 stars Dattoli prostate book most up to date resource available
Did you know there are at least 28 queries you should probably make, and another 22 if you're looking at brachytherapy?
I know this from an excellent new book on prostate cancer just published by the Michael Dattoli and his colleagues in Florida - The Dattoli Blue Ribbon Prostate Cancer Solution:How to survive and thrive without surgery (February, 2009).
It's a 260-page manual on the latest techniques for treating prostate cancer, most of it written by Dattoli, whose pen portrait in the back says he is "a board-certified oncologist with more than 20 years of brachytherapy experience and has performed thousands of prostate implant procedures...a noted author and speaker in this complex field of medicine."

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Referenc Book
I think this is a great reference book about prostate cancer, however, some of Dr. Datttoli's opinions are probably biased.Nevertheless, I think he explains things simply and clearly. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential reading
For those who suffer from chronic prostatitis, and those who treat those sufferers, this booklet is essential reading. Much of the information therein goes beyond the limited mainstream methods often practiced by urologists today, and provides means for a cure.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dallas, Texas
This book saved me. It is basically against everything the
surgeon-urologists say, who basically love surgery and
don't care about patients. Great book. It is the one
to read and I read several. You can suffer in pain or you
can get this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Got Cured Thanks To This Book
I am very grateful for this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Total and Complete
This is a "vanity press", self-published pile of junk! Go to Google and enter "prostatitis and chronic pelvic pain" and look at the sites you get. They completely discount the theories the author Hennenfent (who no longer practises as a doctor - check the AMA listings) is pushing. What makes this so much worse is that the author seems to have some sort of relationship with the two or three clinics in the world which profit from applying the unusual treatments he recommends. Buyer beware!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Save your money!
The book offers nothing new. It was written by a nonurologist who is stuck in the past. Curtis Nickel's book is a better buy, IMO. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential reading on information on prostate conditions
This is probably the best source of information out there on prostate cancer and treatment.Dr Scardino is a very good writer and presents the material in a very easy to read format. Recommend this book for everyone seeking factual information on the topic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dr Scardino's Prostate Handbook
For someone facing Prostate Cancer, this has to be the book. His new release scheduled for later in 2010 should be even better.Dr Patrick Walsh's book (2007) is a little old and very biased towards Surgery and against other valid forms of treatment.

1-0 out of 5 stars NEVER RECEIVED THIS ITEM
I never received this item and I also never received any communication from the seller.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dr. Peter Scardino's Prostate Book
I was understandably upset, frightened and confused when I received my diagnosis (the MD did not give it to me, it, perhaps accidentally, came in a unexpected phone call.)

When a co-worker of my nurse-wife talked to me,he recommended this as a book that helped him better understand his own diagnosis some years earlier

I found it invaluable in trying to understand my diagnosis. It is straight forward, easy to read, full of technical/medical information but stated in such a way (with great diagrams) the lay person can easily grasp it.

Dr. Peter doesn't have an axe to grind as to which road to take, he carefully explains all the options and encourages the reader to do as much investigation as he can before making any decisions.

It is great to have an expert surgeon discuss all aspects of Prostate Cancer and then leave the choices up to the patient.

While this is just one of more than 4 books I have read, I believe it is the best, most thorough volumn of them all and I highly recommend it to anyone diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and their significant other as well.

Product Description
Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in American men today, closely following lung cancer. About one man in six will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. But only one in 35 will die from it. More than two million men in the United States who have been diagnosed at some point are still alive today. I am one of them. My book, Cancer is a Four-Letter Word: A Pilgrimage into the Emotional, Sexual, and Spiritual Aspects of Prostate Cancer, chronicles my own experience with this terrible disease. From early diagnosis, fear, and panic, to shopping for the best treatment, to surgery and subsequent recovery, I trace not only the physical journey of getting my stamina and good health back, but also the psychological and sexual implications. My format includes an interweaving of my own story of prostate cancer with other men's stories, along with open-ended questions at the end of each chapter to keep men and their partners talking late into the night. There's also a resource list to provide support for a lifetime. Although concise and easy to read, my book doesn't hold back any personal details. Readers will learn what to expect in regard to diapering oneself post-surgery, working through debilitating depression, and forging the uncharted territory of a different kind of sexual intimacy. More importantly, they'll hear about learning to accept support from loving friends and how to talk to God in a whole new way. Rarely does a reader find an account of experiencing God's overwhelming love and grace in the same chapter as explicit details on how to give oneself penile injections to overcome erectile dysfunction! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Cancer is a Four-Letter Word: A Pilgrimage into the Emotional, Sexual, and Spiritual Aspects of Prostate Cancer.
It is a quick read but thoughtfully presented in terms of his challenges, emotions, recovery, depression, hope, fear, etc.It is written for men but can be help in discussing this disease with your spouse, including questions to discuss at the end or chapters.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cancer is a Four Letter Word
This book was extremely well written, an easy to read account of the his journey through the fearful stages of symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer. A must read for all men, and their ladies too. I can relate to everything he wrote in this book, because I too was diagnoised with Prostate Cancer at the age of 53. I only wish I had had this book when I took my journey through all the stages of this cancer. I read it in one sitting, while my wife was clothes shopping and I couldn't wait to share the book with her.We discussed it on our way home from shopping. She too wishes we had had this information at the time of journey.

5-0 out of 5 stars I can relate to the author
I received a copy of this book at a prostate cancer support group meeting. I began reading the next day and could not put it down until finished. I also went through the prostate cancer journey as a 48 year old man with advanced cancer (spread to lymph nodes). I wish I had read this book during my treatment and I would have better known what to expect, especially the depression during 18 months of hormone therapy. It was nice to know I wasn't the only one to suffer through this terrible side of the disease.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Heart Journey with Prostate Cancer
Kreps takes the reader through a very personal journey, not only through the steps of his diagnosis and treatment and recovering from prostate cancer and laser surgery, but also through the deep places in his own heart and soul struggles with the disease and its ramifications. While an informative book, Kreps is obviously a skilled story-teller, and engages the reader in a well-woven story/journey.I think this book would be helpful to any man wanting to keep his heart and soul honestly engaged in his journey through cancer, and helpful to any spouse or friend or child wanting to know the spoken or unspoken struggles of soul and body one going through this life-disrupting and life-threatening disease may be facing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must read
A well written, easy to read and compelling account of the journey through the fearful stages of symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer. A must read for all men, and their ladies too.

Product Description
Discover the facts about—and personal stories of—gay men diagnosed with prostate cancer

According to the American Cancer Society, one man in six will develop prostate cancer in his lifetime, the second leading cause of cancer death in men. A Gay Man’s Guide to Prostate Cancer explores the medical facts as well as the personal experiences of medical and mental health professionals and gay men from different walks of life. This insightful examination from the perspective of being gay in a predominantly heterosexual medical world emphasizes the unique concerns gay men have when confronted with this life-altering disease.

The status quo of the medical world is heterosexually assumptive. A Gay Man’s Guide to Prostate Cancer shifts the perspective to gay men’s needs, challenges, and experiences when faced with this critical health risk. The book is divided into a professional section that covers the medical and psychological aspects affecting gay men, and an experiential section in which gay men of varying ages, ethnicities, races, and HIV status describe their own very personal feelings and experiences regarding their diagnosis, treatment, and side-effects. A helpful glossary provided for the layperson explains the meanings of medical words and phrases.

A Gay Man’s Guide to Prostate Cancer discusses:

the basics of prostate cancer—with an overview of causes, diagnosis, screening guidelines, and treatments

the history of prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment—and some unique concerns that gay men face when consulting a urologist and making treatment decisions

the practical questions regarding gay sex after treatment—with a matter-of-fact primer pertaining to what may happen during and what to do after treatment

the depression and anxiety that gay men will likely experience—with a look at the stigmatization and alienation that may occur in the heterosexually biased world

the dynamics and concerns of diagnosed gay men within the context of a self-help group—with topics that include gay identities, sexual behaviors and attitudes, feelings of helplessness, and HIV/AIDS considerations

how the surgical removal of one patient’s prostate gland affected him emotionally—and physically

how a patient’s diagnosis challenged his sexuality—and moved him to work at alerting other men of color to their increased risk of developing prostate cancer

a patient’s sexual dysfunction following radical surgery—and why he formed a gay men’s prostate cancer support group

how prostate cancer devastated one patient’s sense of self and body image; and his experience of being unacceptable in a gay community that he views as consumed with youth and beauty

older gay men’s thoughts when confronting prostate cancer—and how sex has evolved for them

the impact of cancer on couples’ relationships—and the importance of being proactive about treatment

a 33-year-old man’s struggle with prostate cancer—how it changed him and how it affected his relationship of 12 years

A Gay Man’s Guide to Prostate Cancer fills the gap in the literature about gay men challenged with prostate cancer, making it vital reading for physicians, psychotherapists, gay men faced with positive diagnosis, and of course, friends and loved ones. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this book will go to MaleCare, Inc., a nonprofit organization that specifically serves men with various forms of cancer and organizes self-help groups specifically targeted to gay men with prostate cancer. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars prostate cancer primer
i read this book approximately 2.5 years post-diagnosis - shortly before my prostatectomy. many topics covered were common to gay/straight issues but there were definitely some only applicable to gay men. i ended up giving it to my urologist to 'enlighten' him.it is a bit outdated as it does not cover the most recent methods.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just what the Doctor needs, & the patient too
This is a much needed book, far more useful than others I had read on prostate cancer. It has two main themes, both essential to understand.

In one, it tells the gay man (and coincidentally straight men too) very much what to expect. The editors do it with an excellent balance of medical and "street" terms and descriptions. This is presented in a compilation of journal articles and anecdotal personal narratives. It is an easy and understandable read that doesn't beat around the bush.

In it's second theme it deals with the medical establishment's seeming unwillingness to deal realistically with the gay man with prostate cancer, his sexuality, and needs. It alerts the gay man that he will get little useful information from the medical practitioners that isn't couched in the terminology and perspective of straight (male/female) sexual relationships. It is also a plea to those in the medical community to become not just tolerant and accepting of their gay patients, but also knowledgeable for the gay man's especial sexuality and needs.

My only criticism of the book is that since it is five years old and the treatment technology is advancing so rapidly it does need an update to cover some of the advances, both in the technical sections and with added anecdotal information.Considering the incidence of the disease and the increasing openness of men who have sex with men, the demand for appropriate medical knowledge and counsel is rising rapidly. This book should be mandatory reading for every Urologist, Urologic Surgeon, and Radiation Oncologist who treats prostate cancer.

Product Description
A fascinating medical detective story about the unusual reception for a promising new drug by a skeptical medical community reluctant to abandon its age-old Hippocratic Oath of Do No Harm. Stewart Justman explains how a pill called finasteride, proven to dramatically reduce the incidence of prostate cancer, was found to be also associated with a distinctly higher rate of aggressive cancer. As urologists and oncologists were presented with a strange mix of eurekas and cautionary notes, physicians adhered to their best principles and remained wary of massive application. For now, the drug is deemed too risky: the medical dictum of avoiding harm has inhibited its use on a grand scale, though statistically there is much in its favor. Do No Harm is engrossing reading about medical science and, finally, a reassuring tale of the triumph of tradition over novelty. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars just OK
What can I say, it is just OK. Alot of things if you aren't experimental on ingredients you won't use this cookbook. I would not buy again.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Ideas
Having been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and had surgery, I have found this book to contain some exciting and good recipes to support healthy eating as part of the treatment of this disease. The recipes are very tasty plus nutritious. The only hang-up is that I live in a rural town where some of the foods and ingredients used in the recipes are hard to find, so I have to drive some distance to get them. That's some hassal, but the benefits are very worth while.

1-0 out of 5 stars Why I decided against this book
Background: my PSA has doubled in 6 months, but is still under 4.0.I am putting off a 2nd biopsy until I have given dietary changes a chance to kick in.

{The cover of the book has a picture of tomatoes.I believe Lycopene to be over-hyped at present, since there are no studies that show supplementation lowering PSA levels.}

Mr. Guler's comments worried me.The meat issue is really a fat issue (I wonder if the surge in Atkins adherents will lead to a surge in prostate cancer). The fat issue, as I understand it, is (a) the quantity of fat and (b) an imbalance between omega-3 & omega-6 fats.

Im told that grass-fed beef is lower in fat & has a one-to-one ratio, whereas corn-fattened beef has very little omega-3.So beef isn't entirely out of the question.

Fish can be a problem.Farmed salmon is high in fat, but because of the feed, it contains little or no omega-3.

My new diet has more fish (not farmed) than meat.Complex carbs.Vegetables such as broccoli & peppers, but not potatoes. No dessert. No dairy.Zone diet portions.Any general purpose cookbook will provide sufficient recipes.

2-0 out of 5 stars What is left out.
The book opens with information regarding foods to be avoided that feed prostate cancer along with a endorsement by a medical doctor. The book does not define what is "meat" which is a food that the book states should be avoided. It also avoids the categories of seafood and moderate alcohol use such as wine with dinner.I wrote the co-authors requesting a clarification of the above items.Since they refused to answer my inquiry, I consider the book just another vegetarian cookbook with a misleading or incomplete title.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hope And A Fun Approach To Food Preparation
It makes sense that a proper diet can have an impact on the prevention and treatment of prostate cancer. I have some doubt, however, about the ability of certain foods to destroy prostate cancer cells as claimed on the dust jacket. Fighting prostate cancer is a grim business and this book will help PC survivors and their loving spouses because it provides hope and a fun approach to food preparation. I am presently using the book more for its ideas and inspiration instead oftrying to precisely follow each recipe. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Revici, Gerson, & Budwig Were Brilliant
Revici is a must read for those who are searching for relief from any degenerative disease. Revici certainly garnered a lot of praise from from his peers.I know of no other doctor that was held in such high esteem.Yet the AMA/Pharma money mongers certainly tried everything to totally discredit him. Same for Gerson and Budwig.I've been curing myself of Advanced Prostate cancer for over a year, following Gerson and Budwig. Certainly Revici's method(s) would do so also, perhaps better, because they apparently rooted out the source and worked rather fast.My Doctor's are incredulous and tell me to keep doing whatever it is I'm doing.Seems they tell all people to do the same, who are curing themselves. Wonder if they teach them to say that in Med School? The book is well written and does not bash allopathic medicine. It is understandable by all, even though some of the tech talk may escape a few readers (including me). After reading this book, one will definitely have a much fuller view of medicine and their body.Perhaps more so than their doctor. There is no doubt that Revici's understandings and discoveries will have to be used in the future if humankind is to remain alive.
If I come to the point where I need additional help, I will certainly go to the Revici Clinic[...]

5-0 out of 5 stars Wake Up People
You would think that in the twenty-first century people would know better than to blindly trust the medical establishment that is making billions from keeping people sick. And yet, so many have bought into the paternal attitude of the AMA and the FDA. We no longer live in the Dark Ages when people like Galileo were persecuted for making scientific discoveries. It's time to wake up and start exploring and you will find the truth. This book is a good place to start.

The Doctor Who Cures Cancer is the well-written story of a brilliant and compassionate doctor who was able to cure cancer fifty years ago. His methods and the science behind them are thoroughly explored in the book. Then why are we still waging a war on cancer today--and losing? Simple. Follow the money. The medical establishment is making too much by torturing and mutilating cancer patients with chemo, radiation, and surgery. Think the FDA will protect you? No. They're the ones jailing and condemning people like Dr. Revici who cure cancer.

Get this book if you want to learn about how one doctor fought the system and cured people. But let it be just the beginning of opening your mind and raising your awareness about cancer and modern medicine. Read. Research. Question everything your doctor says--it's your body and you have a right to whatever treatment you choose for yourself.

4-0 out of 5 stars Biography of a medical pioneer
Well-written and thorough, this biography of Emanuel Rivici, who discovered remedies for cancer, addiction, AIDS, and other conditions, brings to light the difficulties and politics of medical research.Eidem's "where do we go from here?" (part 5) is a call to action as well as a clearly defined and timely reminder that organized medicine needs a wake-up call to successfully deal with disease...the other 4 parts of this book (Revici's life, discoveries, patients, and foes) focus more on Revici as a person (along with his travails and challenges) than on solutions to any current ailment a patient might have; however, many practical resources are given throughout this volume, including the name and address of the Revici Life-Science Center in Manhattan, as well as details about acidity-alkalinity and lipids research. The two appendices (chronology and illustrations) are extremely helpful in understanding Revici's theories. This is a must-read for a person who is undergoing Revici therapy and should be required reading for oncologists and immunologists everywhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Doctor Who Cures Cancer
This book is ground breaking and gives a clear understanding of the problem ie:the disease with solutions to get you on the road to recovery. Thank you Kelly for bringing truth to the world.

5-0 out of 5 stars fantastic information - a must for everyone!!!!

It offers hope like no other w/o going the traditional way and its horrible side effects. Like they say "if the disease doesn't kill you the treatment will". C ... Read more

Product Description
There is considerable evidence to suggest thatprogression of prostate cancers to castration- resistant is due to inappropriate activation of theandrogen receptor (AR) and hence, the AR is a goodtarget for the treatment of this disease. In thisstudy we used two approaches to investigate ARactivation and inhibition. We developed high-throughput, non-invasive, cell- based screening assays to rapidly and biologicallyassess factors that modulate prostate cancer growthand affect AR activity. Using these assays, we foundthat differentiated osteoblast-like condition mediaenhanced prostate cancer cell growth, but not ARactivity. In addition, we applied this system toscreen compounds, selected through in silicoapproaches against a crucial pocket on the ARprotein. The application of our in silico tools andour cell based screening assay resulted inidentification of 17 compounds out of 4 millionsthat can inhibit AR activity. Importantly, some ofthese compounds are more potent than bicalutamide, which is one of the most potent antiandrogen drugscurrently used to treat patients with metastaticprostate cancer. ... Product Description

John Hallenborg did get tested for prostate cancer and is fully recovered today, thanks to "the healing processes of time, a great doctor, and loving family and friends." Life, Sex, and Prostate Cancer Surgery: How One Man Healed and Was Made Whole is his story.

Hallenborg at last found a way to both medical and emotional well-being. With sardonic humor and psychological acuity, he tells of his experiences and feelings while dealing with "the big C"— the physical toll of the treatment, the fears of its effect on his sex life, and the other diseases that intruded along the way. Life, Sex, and Prostate Cancer Surgery is often graphic, always unflinching, sometimes hilarious, and ultimately uplifting. For anyone facing prostate cancer themselves or involved in the life of someone who is, it offers helpful information and hard-earned reasons for hope.

I saw this book online, and thought, who are they writing for.I then read it and felt entirely left out. The authors barely suggest that gay men exist on this planet and many of them have prostate cancer.Thank goodness for other books and [...]for helping out of a pickle. At best, this book uses the word love, but does not seem to include me.

It is written in layman’s language and lays out all the various terminology and treatments that are currently available. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
I was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. I found the book totally informative and I am going to try using the herbs first as I am not looking forward to the post op. side effects that I now realize are very real. I read the other reviews and I would like to add that "river runner" obviously never read the book before returning it. I would recommend this book to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars son of prostate cancer survivor
I bought this book for my father who was just diagnosed with prostate cancer. He does not have advanced prostate cancer as this would not work for that. He has a gleason score of 5, his original PSA was 10.2, after 6 months of taking the herbs it is now down to 4.0. He is getting his PSA checked by his doctor every 3 months. He is very happy about the results and we both recommend this book to anyone with prostate cancer.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth 13 bucks
I bought this for my dad who has advanced prostate cancer, and immeadiately returned it.At a slim 36 pages, it's hard to justify the cost anyway. He first outlines basic prostate information found anywhere. Then he writes about the power of the herbal formula, PC SPES, which is no longer manufactered in the US (the companty is out of business).

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
He really hits the nail on the head with this book. I was recently diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and I was glad to see what I was in for. I have decided to give the herbs a shot to see if they will lower my PSA. If it doesn't work I have plenty of time to sign up for the surgery.

3-0 out of 5 stars Alternatives You Don't Usually Hear About
I believe the author has shown alternatives not usually brought up by Doctors, definetly not be surgeons. He chose not to go through the standard procedures, for valid reasons, unless he had to if his chosen methods didn't work. And you know what?He would not have been any worse off if he had to after he explored the options layed-out in his book.I believe that the medical establishment should bring these alternatives to light before putting a person through Chemo or surgery and that unfortunatly, money has a lot to do with that. After all.. this is big business.A MUST READ for any man diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars With a dash of humor
I wanted to read Mr. Hitchcox's book because since my own diagnosis in late November 1999, I have devoted myself to finding material that can help other men with the disease, either at a Cincinnati OH support group or myWeb site. There are books about prostate cancer but too few that approachthe subject of intimacy, let alone include it in the title. Mr. Hitchcoxnot only takes it on but with an even rarer - and much-needed - sense ofhumor. (How often do you learn the year/make of a writer's car in"About the Author"?)

Although Mr. Hitchcox is a firm advocateof including the companion in the process, I was pleasantly surprised tofind "The Wife Gets to Speak" at the close of the book where hisspouse gives her perspective on the ordeal. More first-person books shouldtake this route because this disease affects more than the man.

The bookis short, laced with cartoons and a fast-read but perhaps exactly what mostnewly diagnosed men need. At that early stage, one doesn't have muchattention span. There's also good resources, a list of questions for yourdoctor and a good, workable index. And don't let the year of publication(1997) stop you from getting it. He gives an attitude that will be neededas long as there is treatment for this disease.

I enjoyed the book wellenough to wonder why it isn't listed at more Web sites. It will be at minewith a recommendation to get it - as I did - from Amazon.com.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very frank, clear and thorough consultation
I give Prostate Cancer my highest recommendation and only hope there will a revision soon. The author is a medical oncologist deeply involved both in patient care and in research. He has written a very helpful guide in which he promises a compassionate consultation similar to what he gives his patients but with much more detail.Dr. Kantoff believes that guidance during this very confusing and frightful period in the lives of prostate cancer patients is vital. The writing is clear with very detailed explanations of each area. For example, his presentation of the anatomy of the prostate and supporting diagrams are outstanding. Also, a very helpful section on PSA is presented. He discusses the importance of the PSA test even though there are many uncertainties because of various factors that affect it. His presentation of the natural history of prostate and how this affects everything else - detection, diagnosis, staging, treatment and possible outcome - is excellent. Understanding the variability of prostate cancer is crucial in coming to terms with the disease and making a decision for treatment. His use of case histories is a wonderful way to see the applications of the information in real life situations. The last chapter,"Where to Turn for Help" focuses on the psychosocial support. It is a very sensitive presentation including some very helpful guidance both for patients and their wives.Dr. Kantoff lists some practical steps to help you through this difficult period.

Prostate Cancer: A Family Consultation is probably the clearest and most thorough book I have read during the period between my diagnosis of prostate cancer and the treatment I chose.I think I would choose to do some basic reading of pamphlets and booklets first. Then I would read this book and return to it as a primary reference. However, if it is fairly easy for you to read and understand medical writings, it would be an excellent place to start and will probably serve as your basic "guide book".You will feel that you have had a very frank, clear and thorough consultation.PROSTATE CANCER CL ... Product Description

In his latest book, Frank Murray, the reliably informative author of numerous books on health and nutrition, delves into the prostate and its potential for problems. Although prostate cancer is the most common cancer in the United States, there is an admitted lack of clinical data available on the topic. Despite this slight drawback, however, Murray has managed to unearth valuable research material on every conceivable aspect of the prostate. This venerable author has once again accomplished what he does so well, which is to meticulously research and string together clinical studies that give scientific underpinning to he methods and treatments he espouses and put them into relevant categories in a cogent, easily accessible narrative for the reader.

How to Prevent Prostate Problems defines exactly what the prostate is and how it is vulnerable to such diseases as benign prostatic hyperplasia, cancer, and prostatitis, and then talks about how to prevent, or, if thatÂ’s not an option, correctly diagnose and discuss what treatments there are. As there are no magic bullets, this can be tricky, so both you and your doctor need to thoroughly understand the choices for treating these maladies. To illustrate some of the methods available, Murray has included case histories of men whose various prostate conditions have been successfully treated in different ways.

Vitamins, minerals, herbs, and other supplements to help counter prostate irregularities are each given a comprehensive section, as are environmental hazards. The specter of vasectomies possibly causing prostate cancer is also discussed, and a number of trials show no obvious correlation between the two, but, to date, there are no definitive results. The back of the book contains an excellent Glossary of terms used in the book, a list of helpful Resources, a chapter-by-chapter listing of the references cited, and an Index.

More that a resource, How to Prevent Prostate Problems comes close to being a source for anyone wanting to learn about the subject for themselves or their loved ones.
