Thirty years ago, Gobin and Bierlaagh developed thesimultaneous horizontal and cyclovertical strabismus surgery thatbecame a recognized, albeit much debated method, but no manual on thesubject was available until now. Wonderful for Children
I'm very thankful for this book. My daughter is 6 and has had Nystagmus since birth. The book really help her understand her eye condition more. She took the book to school to help her teacher and classmates understand her eye condition. It is very helpful and I recommend this book for anyone that has any of the other eye conditions that it explains about.

Great Resource for VI and Special Ed Teachers
All Children Have Different Eyes is an excellent resource for Teachers of Students with Visual Impairments, other Special Education Teachers, or other people in the VI field, including parents.The book explains in elementary school language about different visual impairments and modifications needed for these students.I use it as part of a lesson for general ed classrooms with VI students in them.As seen at Dallas TAER conference April 2008.

Good role models to increase understanding and acceptance
This is a very encouraging and informative book. Examples of thoughtful behavior and explanations of differences can help change childish curiosity and unkindness. This book focuses on what can be accomplished by children who have visual difficulties. First, the authors have us meet Tommy who has nystagmus. A sound spelling is given along with a little story of how Tommy encourages positive reactions and how he handles negative reactions of children. After Tommy's story, we read stories of other children with other low visual difficulties such as cataracts, myopia, and strabismus. There is a glossary. Resources include books and websites. Activities in the back of the book, give reference to pages in the story with examples of improving social compentency skills. The scenes in the stories and the skills include making friends, coping with mean people, coping with other people's lack of knowledge, etc. I highly recommend this for children, teachers, and parents.

With approximately 1.2 million procedures each year, extraocular muscle surgery is the third most common eye surgery in the United States. Strabismus surgery is a one day procedure. The patient only spends few hours in the hospital with minimal preoperative preparation. The average duration of the surgery is variable according to the number of muscles operated. On average, every muscle operated takes 10-15 minutes. In case of re-operations it may take longer. After surgery, pain is not significant. The patient should expect some soreness and redness, however pain killers are rarely needed. Again, in cases of re-operations, more pain is expected. Resection of the muscles is more painful in the post operative period than recession. It also leaves redness that lasts longer and may cause some vomiting in the early post operative period. ...
