1-0 out of 5 stars lack of research basis
the author recommends a number of "treatments" that have no research basis. These proposed "treatments" are recommended by lay persons for anything from asthma to autism to ADHD and now Tourette's.I do not recommend this book, although having your child eat all healthy, organic foods and live in a low-allergy house may be good for him/her in ways that have nothing to do with Tourettes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good book with lots of ideas for help
I bought this book to help my 6 year old son with Tourettes, and so far, it has been the book with the most information. It gave me lots of things to try, in order to help my son.I would definitely recommend this book to a parent with a child with TS. ... Read more

Product Description
In Tiger Trails, Darin Bush engagingly captures his readers and takes them inside the experience of living with Tourette syndrome and its associated disorders (TS+). Using a delightful build-your-own-adventure format, he introduces parents to definitions of many of the terms and concepts they encounter as they learn about their child's disorder. But Darin's book is much more than just definitions and concepts. By sharing his experiences, parents will gain greater awareness of what TS+ is like from the inside. Adults living with TS+ will also relate to Darin's comments about how TS, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, and other comorbid conditions impact social functioning.

Product Description
Growing up when your body and mind insist on performing things that are far from normal must be like a hell on earth.Frank developed Tourette Syndrome before the disease was recognized as a physiological ailment, and eventually inherited all of its complications. After many admissions to hospitals where he was treated as a psychpatient, he was finally admitted to New York Hospital and diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome. Some victims of TS have very mild symptoms, such as an occasional twitch, eye blinking, or throat clearing.Frank's severe tics in the form of loud barking noises, body twitches, picking at his skin, or poking others, plus ADHD, OCD, coprolalia (constantly using obscene language ), echolalia (repeating sentences and words over and over), all led to a life filled with experiences that most of us could not imagine.Through this book he has relived some of those events, and explains that he would probably have committed suicide if he had not believed such an action would condemn him to hell for all eternity. You will laugh and cry as you read his story, and obtain a better understanding of Tourette Syndrome or anyone afflicted with similar disorders. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A very useful and "user friendly" self-help guide
Triumph Over ADD, ADHD & Tourette Syndrome by Agi Lidle is a very useful and "user friendly" self-help guide for the non-specialist general reader to using good nutrition, open thinking, and a healthy lifestyle to combat the difficulties of ADD, ADHD & Tourette Syndrome -- instead of a sole reliance on prescription drugs. A disclaimer at the beginning warns that the advice, recipes, and techniques herein cannot substitute for professional medical diagnosis and treatment; and with that caveat in mind, Triumph Over ADD, ADHD & Tourette Syndrome has a great deal of practical value to offer the reader. Positive anecdotes, and a straightforward guide to transforming oneself round out Triumph Over ADD, ADHD & Tourette Syndrome, all of which offers a valuable approach that should be held in high consideration. Also very strongly recommended is Agi Lidle's previous contribution: Triumph Over Cancer: A Natural Approach ... Read more

Excerpt: Tourette syndrome (also called Tourette's syndrome, Tourette's disorder, Gilles de la Tourette syndrome, GTS or, more commonly, simply Tourette's or TS) is an inherited neuropsychiatric disorder with onset in childhood, characterized by the presence of multiple physical (motor) tics and at least one vocal (phonic) tic; these tics characteristically wax and wane. Tourette's is defined as part of a spectrum of tic disorders, which includes transient and chronic tics. Tourette's was once considered a rare and bizarre syndrome, most often associated with the exclamation of obscene words or socially inappropriate and derogatory remarks (coprolalia). This symptom is actually present in only a small minority of people with Tourette's, however. Tourette's is no longer considered a rare condition, but it may not always be correctly identified because most cases are classified as mild. Between 1 and 10 children per 1,000 have Tourette's; as many as 10 per 1,000 people may have tic disorders, with the more common tics of eye blinking, coughing, throat clearing, sniffing, and facial movements. People with Tourette's have normal life expectancy and intelligence. The severity of the tics decreases for most children as they pass through adolescence, and extreme Tourette's in adulthood is a rarity. Notable individuals with Tourette's are found in all walks of life. Genetic and environmental factors each play a role in the etiology of Tourette's, but the exact causes are unknown. In most cases, medication is unnecessary. There is no effective medication for every case of tics, but there are medications and therapies that can help when their use is warranted. Explanation and reassurance alone are often sufficient ...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=56483 ... Read more

Every movement is watched, every moment mentally captured, every eye is a reminder—he’s different. Life is a matter of perception. On the public end, it’s a look of sympathy. On his, he “can feel your eyes burning holes and then peeling away [his] self-esteem.” Recounting a life with Tourette Syndrome, this autobiographical book of free verse poetry is not written for the pleasure of the reader but the release of the writer. 5-0 out of 5 stars Coming of Age
An amazing account of the writers own experience of overcoming a stigma of being different.A must read for those who feel like they are alone in their struggle when life throws them a curve that they or a family member or friend was not quite expecting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heart and Soul
Books do not get any more genuine than this one. This is a truly inspiring piece that challenges you to examine your life and appreciate the differences that make you special. Just when you think that your weird quirks make you inferior to other "normal" people, Fugler's collection of poetry brings the world into perspective from the eyes of a child. For a beautiful story full of defeat and triumph, "It's OK To Stare" is the book to buy. It is also reassuring to know that this story is not just another concoction formulated from the desk of a writer who is desperate for a big break. Instead, this book illustrates the actual happenings of the author's life. The struggles throughout are very real and make the story come alive in my heart and soul every time I pick it up to read. I give this book the highest recommendation!

From the simple opinions of someone who is also different...and loves his differences. ... Read more
