5-0 out of 5 stars The #1 Resource for Valley Fever Sufferers
Most doctors don't understand valley fever.States, cities and local governments in the endemic areas don't want to understand valley fever.Residents and visitors to endemic areas rarely understand the risks, symptoms, prognoses and treatments associated with valley fever. This debilitating and potentially deadly condition generates more questions than answers but finally, there is a resource available to help valley fever sufferers and their families navigate through the maze of myths and misinformation that make this awful condition even worse to deal with.As someone afflicted with valley fever, I am grateful to Sharon and David Filip for their passion in researching and writing this masterful reference guide. They have created a tremendous resource filled with impeccably researched data and personal accounts of survivors of this poorly understood disease.Their total commitment for the advocacy of public awareness and government funding for a vaccine or cure adds even greater value to this book.I highly recommend it as a must-read for valley fever sufferers, their families, residents and those who might plan to visit endemic areas, medical practitioners and government officials who have an interest in facing the truth about valley fever.

4-0 out of 5 stars Valley Fever Information
I was recently diagnosed with Valley Fever and I was amazed at how many doctors and the medical system in whole don't know about this disease.

The book was very informative and answered alot of questions for me.It gave me the change to catch up on a range of topics, treatments and side effects for Valley Fever.

5-0 out of 5 stars You should know about this
Valley Fever, a deadly disease which can be caught easily, is almost unknown to people living in the endemic area, the Southwest! As a result, diagnosis is inconsistent, and medical care is worse. As a survivor, I was thrilled to learn of this book. My doctors, although well meaning, gave me little information about the disease, perhaps because they know little about it themselves. I am a firm believer in patient's advocating for themselves and this book is a tool to help one do so. However, I don't think people ought to wait until they have VF to buy the book.I believe everyone in the Southwest should know about it and be prepared to ask their medical advisors to test for it should they have unusual symptoms which do not clear up with conventional therapy. It can effect both humans and pets, and the results can be devastating. Delays in diagnosis and treatment can cause problems which last a life time. For you and your family's sake, buy and read this book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Valley Fever Epidemic
This Valley Fever infection has the potential to do great harm in communities all across the Southwestern part of the U.S.My Sister (Tucson) had debilitating lung problems. She was misdiagnosed which added to the delay in treatment. Her lung tissue is now permanently scarred and marginally functional. This fine book covers all aspects of the disease and is well worth reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ!!!!!!!
Your life depends on this very well-written book, explaing the hideous disease of Valley Fever.I found the book to be written in layman's terms and easy to understand.I would recommend it to anyone who lives in the endemic area or who would be going to visit the Southwest. The book has a wealth of helpful resources and how to get the best medical care and medications for anyone afflicted with this ravenous disease.I am so greatful for this book -- I can't believe it has not received more recognition! ... Elizabeth makes these Earrings from Acorns and they are Jack-o-Lanterns,and they are a hit with Sweet Valley Middle School.Jessica says they are hers and makes up a story saying something about a Squirrel being hit by a car. The Unicorns are having a King and Queen of Halloween and Jessica wants to win. They have votes for most something. It cost money.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best Sweet Valley Twins books!
This book is really good. It's about two twins, Elizabeth and Jessica.Elizabeth makes these Halloween earings.Jessica tells her twin they are dorky.Elizabeth threw out the earings.
Later, Jessica remembered she had to do her art project. She took Elizabeth's earings. The earings were her art project. In school, every thought the earings were the coolest thing.Jessica said it was her idea, but it's not.She starts selling the earings! One day when Jessica was gathering acorns. (She needed acorns because the earings were made out of them. She was making more of earings to sell.) Elizabeth saw her gathering them and she asked why.Jessica said it was for a baby squirrel. (That's a lie!)Elizabeth wrote it in the school newspaper called The Sixers.Everyone is voting for Jessica to be The Sweet Valley Middle School Queen of Halloween! She doesn't deserve it.How can Elizabeth let everyone know SHE made the earings and Jessica lied?

4-0 out of 5 stars Who's cooler, Jessica or Elizabeth?
Elizabeth makes some neat earings.Jessica says they are dorky, but the kids in school think that they are awesome!Jessica goes around saying it was her idea and she starts selling them!Jessica tells a bunch of lies.It was all Elizabeth's idea, but can Elizabeth prove it?

I liked this book a lot.It was very interesting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow!
I really liked this book and I think that it has a moral lesson.

You see, Elizabeth makes these totally beautiful, cool and funky earrings. Of course, even though she's not really cruel, Jessica criticizes the earrings and hurts Elizabeth's feelings. So Elizabeth throws them away, which was totally WRONG.

Then Jessica suddenly has an idea and uses the earrings as "her" art project because she couldn't think of anything that could be a suitable project. Everybody at school oohs and aahs, so Jessica pretends they're her IDEA. There are a lot of twists and turns.. Let me just say that it's really great and that it reminds me of "The Telltale Heart". Read the book, because you won't regret it. L8er! ^_^ ... Read more

I've never been to kansas, but I live in Texas, and its annoying how some people think everyone rides horses and wears cowboy hats and voted for president Bush. Not so people! So I'm assuming the the re-dunkulous stuff they do in this mind numbing book is pretty far feteched too. Now Im a huge fan of the fluff SVH stories, but I found this one tormenting. Skip onto one of the other Super Eds., cus this book is Special Ed.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Fun Adventure for the Wakefields!
I enjoyed this.Alot.Walkersville sounded like a nice place- for a visit.Anyways, this book was great. Very fun, funny how Aunt Shirley and Uncle Herman thought Jessica was sick because she went to bed early (so she could sneak out to meet a guy- of course!) and slept in late (because she was out late!)It was also funny how All the girls were copying Jessica's style even though they were mean to her.READ THIS BOOK!

Product Description
Valley Fever is endemic to the southwest region of the United States. Few people realize that the very soil they live upon contains a life-threatening disease. When soil becomes stirred through the process of economic development, farming, and monsoon storms a fungal spore called coccidioidomycosis becomes airborne and inhaled into the body of humans and animals causing harm to vital organs. Valley fever breeds a multi-cellular structure reproducing lethal cells inside the lungs, bones, and most deadly brain tissue. Unfortunately, my husband, Juan contracted valley fever which disseminated into the spinal fluid attacking the central nervous system and meninges causing fungal meningitis. Hydrocephalus, spinal fluid trapped in walls of scar tissue on the brain rejected much needed absorption for brain tissue to function normally. After ten years of marriage, we built a new home in Mesa, Arizona, had three young children, and found the greatest test of our lives. Juan was classified as one of the worse cases ever seen from the devastation of valley fever. His mortal existence was an extraordinary miracle and Juan and I wondered if we could physically and mentally endure the requirement of long hospitalizations, harsh medication and treatment, and inconceivable surgical procedures. We wondered if our family and marital vows to love and honor through sickness could endure such a catastrophic experience. With a high risk of mortality, unknown medical outcomes, and the deterioration of my husband's body, we put our faith to the test. We questioned why we were meant to live through this horrifying experience and then learned that we were meant to live and tell about it. We called upon the Lord to carry us through the turbulent storms we are often warned about. With the Lord's help we found unconditional love, moral strength and the power of enduring miracles. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great book worth reading
I absolutely could not put Enduring Miracles down the first day I started reading it and read until 1:30 in the morning. It's always amazing to see what people can endure and yet somehow come out on top!Afton Zapata is a fabulous writer.I was probably most impressed with her ability to give the play by play of how everything happened (which must have come from some awesome journal entries) before and after the diagnosis of Valley Fever.I was also very impressed with Afton's honesty in telling the story, no matter how painful sometimes it probably must have been.Wow!I couldn't have done that. She really told it all, which helped me see the big picture of what was going on in their life. This book isn't just for people dealing with Valley Fever, but it's for people dealing with any of life's challenges. It's a book of hope and unconditional love.I highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a book I will always remember.
A couple of months have passed since I read the book "Enduring Miracles" by Afton Zapata. I can't forget it. It is a book I will always remember.

This is a book that you will stay up too late at night reading because you can't put it down. It is a book that tells about ordinary people who face unbelievable trials, and become extraordinary people. This is a book that teaches you gratitude for life. It is a book that gives you strength in facing your own problems.

This is a book that you must read.

this was a great book...very insightful!....are there any more like it?...i am searching for more from people who have endured valley fever....there' not very much out ther for us!...thanks

5-0 out of 5 stars Shocking
This account of a family dealing with a harrowing disease that struck the father is riveting.I couldn't put it down. It's written with an honest sort of raw retelling of the events, experiences, and feelings of Afton Zapata, the author, who is the mother. She brings to life, for the reader, the people involved in the story, to the point that the reader is emotionally invested in the story for good and bad.It is heart wrenching, but hopeful in the realization that no matter what hardships life hands you, you have the choice to maintain an inner peace and faith that will sustain you.It is all at once painful, yet uplifting to share what appears to be an account of a cathartic nature with this family.Any reader that is human can find something to relate to themselves in this heart piercing story.I highly recommend it.One comes away with a deeper appreciation for the gift of life, health, and family.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, A Medical Glossary Anyone Can Understand!
Even being in the medical field myself it is hard to understand what doctors are really saying at times.I really feel sorry for the lay people in this situation, as they are probably so confused they don't even know what to ask.

I highly recommend The Official Valley Fever Survivor Medical Glossary to everyone. You don't have to have Valley Fever to benefit from this book. The beginning of the book explains what valley fever is about and the endemic areas. It also has a section called Dawn to Dusk, which explains what weather conditions may increase or decrease the chances of contracting this deadly disease.

The large glossary comes next and it is very easy to understand and compliments the first book written called Valley Fever Epidemic. Many of the words in this glossary could be related to several health issues as well. For example, the word prognosis relates to the outcome of a medical problem so it can be used with any diagnosis. As I mentioned above, you don't have to have Valley Fever to benefit from this book.

At the end of the glossary is some very good reference information about where you can find organizations and internet information related to valley fever. You can also find information about a vaccine being worked on in Texas and research on a new medication being worked on in Arizona. If you've not read Valley Fever Epidemic this book is a must have.It has awesome reviews written by several prominent Valley Fever medical professionals.

If you don't need to breathe then no worries. :)However, if you do need to breathe I highly suggest you read both these books, The Official Valley Fever Survivor Medical Glossary and Valley Fever Epidemic. This disease is something to worry about. You just don't know it yet.Why wait? 5-0 out of 5 stars Dance Fever is REALLY AWESOME
Dance Fever is a really, really good book! I thought it was really funny and the ending was really romantic! But I won't tell you what happened, you'll have to read it yourself. But I DID think that what Elizabeth did for Ronald was so awesome!! But what Ronald did to her was heart-breaking! Oh well read the book it was soooooooo good!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book , Great series
This series is totaly to die for! Elizabeth and Jessica are to Califoinian teenagers who just want to have fun, well at least jessica does... Elizabeth and Jessica are two different people Jessica is a really outgoing kind of person who will get what ever she wants. Elizabeth is more of a quiet person who just goes along with what people are saying. In the begining of the series Jessica and Elizabeth get rezoned (moved) to a different school, they get transfered to sweet Valley Jr. High from Sweet Valley Middle School. Well then Elizabeth meets Salvador and they instantly have a "thing" for each other. While this is going on Elizabeth is having a really easy time making friends and jessica isn't.Then comes Blue later in the series who kind of messes things up..... in my opinion this is the best series of all of the SV books..... from SVJH to SHH to SHSY to SVMS SVU and sweet valley Kids i've read them all more than once! Happy Readings!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best!
This was definitely one of the best SVJH books. In this one, Elizabeth really, really wants to go with Blue. But one day, Jessica asks Elizabeth to get her homework from her locker. Elizabeth goes to Jessica's locker, and finds Jessica's dorky locker partner there! When he asks Elizabeth to the dance, she is so nice, she can't bear to say no. Meanwhile, Blue is contemplating whether he should ask Elizabeth to the dance, and if so, when. Finally, Blue calls Elizabeth, but she concludes that she must tell the truth, and she tells Blue about her date. Blue is terribly sad, but then Elizabeth and Blue make up a plan that will fix everything...

5-0 out of 5 stars Vivid illustration of Silicon Valley
This book could be dubbed as the ethnography of Silicon Valley in the eye of anthropologist. This book seems outdated at first glance. It¡¯s two-decades-old, published in 1984. Since that time, so much has happened in the computer industry, the bread and butter of the Silicon Valley. Silicon Valley saw in the 1980s the era of microcomputer (PC) and in the 1990s the advent of the age of Internet. This book couldn¡¯t deal with those kind of events naturally. But the underlying characteristics of the area hasn¡¯t changed. Venture capitals and job-hoppings, hyper-competitive and individualistic lifestyle are there as usual. And those are vividly illustrated in this book with the texture of real business rendered with data garnered from interviews and anecdotes of not only eminent figures in the area but also ranks and files of the businesses. This book is inundated with lively details. Though there are flood of materials on Silicon Valley these days, this book doesn¡¯t lose its relevancy for the weight of time. I strongly recommend this book if you want to figure out the way of doing in Silicon Valley. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Do you know what Valley Fever is?
Do you know what Valley Fever is?Have you even heard of it?If you live in Arizona, chances are that you are acquainted with it and maybe have even had it.Little Skiff, the Shetland Sheepdog who moved from Alaska to Arizona, is back. The now two-year-old Sheltie likes to run and play in the Arizona sun, digging around to sniff out tidbits of food that people have dropped in the grass. However, one day while Little Skiff is out with the children who own him to clean up after a dust storm, he becomes very sick. When he gets worse, he has to go to the vet.Dr. Marla says that he has Valley Fever. Is there anything that can be done for Little Skiff? Will he get better?
Valley Fever is a fungal infection. The fungus that causes it lives in the ground in the Southwest. When a dog digs, spores from the fungus can escape from the ground and become airborne. The spores can also be carried by the wind during dust storms. Most people and animals have a natural immunity against the disease, but if some people or animals inhale the spores they can get contaminated.Fortunately, it is not contagious from dog to dog or from dog to person.Author and illustrator Dany Pierard-Deviche, who is a former research biologist and also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting, tells a delightful story in which Little Skiff must learn to cope with his own illness, thus giving strength and courage to children who are dealing with health issues, especially any who might have Valley Fever.Little Skiff Copes with Valley Fever is a wonderful book that will teach children how to remain confident in the face of adversity.

5-0 out of 5 stars Little Skiff Copes With Valley Fever
I adored this second book about Skiff the Shetland sheepdog. Once again Skiff is telling his story which is a delight to my youngest grandson. Skiff and his owners are now living in Phoenix, Arizona. Skiff is having a lot of fun in his new home. He loves to dig,run in the sun and play in the rain.

One morning Skiff woke up and did not feel well. He had never been sick but knew that something was wrong.

His owners took him to a vet and that is when they found out Skiff has Valley Fever.
This little book is educational as you get to see real X-rays, listen as a veterinarian explains all about what Valley Fever is and how long it can last. You will find a glossary of words at the end of the book. That will help little minds to understand words they may not know.

Product Description
Webster's bibliographic and event-based timelines are comprehensive in scope, covering virtually all topics, geographic locations and people. They do so from a linguistic point of view, and in the case of this book, the focus is on "Valley Fever," including when used in literature (e.g. all authors that might have Valley Fever in their name). As such, this book represents the largest compilation of timeline events associated with Valley Fever when it is used in proper noun form. Webster's timelines cover bibliographic citations, patented inventions, as well as non-conventional and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities in usage. These furthermore cover all parts of speech (possessive, institutional usage, geographic usage) and contexts, including pop culture, the arts, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This "data dump" results in a comprehensive set of entries for a bibliographic and/or event-based timeline on the proper name Valley Fever, since editorial decisions to include or exclude events is purely a linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under "fair use" conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hot Weather and Fiery Passion
A hodgepodge of murder mysteries fill Valley Fever. The settings differ, the plots vary, but it's the heat of passion that links the stories and it's the twists in the end that whets the appetite for more. But what of those non-volunteers who have been subjected to hallucinations through no choice of their own? Coccidioidomycosis (Valley Fever, or San Joaquin Valley Fever) is a fungal disease found in the soil of the southwest and carried on the desert wind. As a girl growing up in Arizona, Wendy Padilla, was exposed to Valley Fever. Her hallucinations had a reoccurring theme - Bears. As an adult these supposed hallucinations were interpreted by a Native American shaman as visions, influencing Wendy's life and her writing.
