Excerpt: Foot-and-mouth disease, FMD or hoof-and-mouth disease (Aphtae epizooticae) is a highly contagious and sometimes fatal viral disease of cloven-hoofed animals, including domestic animals such as cattle, water buffalo, sheep, goats and pigs, as well as antelope, bison and other wild bovids, and deer. It is caused by foot-and-mouth disease virus. In addition, hedgehogs and elephants are susceptible to the disease. The llama and alpaca may develop mild symptoms but are resistant to the disease and will not pass it on to others of the same species. In laboratory experiments, mice and rats and chickens have been successfully infected by artificial means, but it is not believed that they would contract the disease under natural conditions. Just as humans may spread the disease by carrying the germs on their clothes and body, animals that are not susceptible to the disease may still aid in spreading it. This was the case in Canada in 1952 when an outbreak flared up again after dogs had carried off bones from dead animals. Wolves are thought to play a similar role in the former Soviet Union. Humans are very rarely affected. Foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) is a picornavirus, the prototypic member of the Aphthovirus genus in the Picornaviridae family. It is a highly variable and transmissible virus. There are seven FMD serotypes: O, A, C, SAT-1, SAT-2, SAT-3, ...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=21438755 ... Read more

Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Rift Valley Fever (RVF) is a viral zoonosis (affects primarily domestic livestock, but can be passed to humans) causing fever. It is spread by the bite of infected mosquitoes, typically the Aedes or Culex genera. The disease is caused by the RVF virus, a member of the genus Phlebovirus (family Bunyaviridae). The disease was first reported among livestock in Kenya around 1915, but the virus was not isolated until 1931. RVF outbreaks occur across sub-Saharan Africa, with outbreaks occurring elsewhere infrequently (but sometimes severely - in Egypt in 1977-78, several million people were infected and thousands died during a violent epidemic. In Kenya in 1998, the virus claimed the lives of over 400 Kenyans. In September 2000 an outbreak was confirmed in Saudi Arabia and Yemen). ... Read more

There are effective vaccines against anthrax, and some forms of the disease respond well to antibiotic treatment. Like many other members of the genus Bacillus, Bacillus anthracis can form dormant spores that are able to survive in harsh conditions for extremely long periods of timeeven decades or centuries. Such spores can be found on all continents, even Antarctica. When spores are inhaled, ingested, or come into contact with a skin lesion o...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=42898 ... Read more

Description:
During the rainy season the abundance of mosquitoes over the Ferlo region (Senegal) is linked to dynamic, vegetation cover and turbidity of temporary and relatively small ponds. The latter create a variable environment where mosquitoes can thrive and thus contribute to diffusion and transmission of diseases such as the Rift Valley Fever (RVF, with Aedes vexans arabiensis and Culex poicilipes mosquitoes) in the Ferlo. The small size and complex distribution of ponds require the use of high-spatial resolution satellite images for adequate detection. Here the use of SPOT-5 images (10 m-resolution) allows for detailed assessment of spatio-temporal evolution of ponds, through two new indices: i.e., the Normalized Difference Pond Index (NDPI), and the Normalized Difference Turbidity Index (NDTI). Small ponds less than 0.5 ha dominate whatever the time period. For example they represent nearly 65% of the total ponds during the peak of the rainy season, up to 90% at the end of the same season. Moreover, another product is proposed: the Zone Potentially Occupied by Mosquitoes (ZPOM). During the apex of the summer monsoon, it is found that RVF mosquitoes occupy 25% of the Ferlo region, while only 0.9% of the same area is covered by ponds. Overlapping areas occupied by grazing cattle and mosquitoes, enhance RVF virus transmission. The remotely sensed operational indices and products presented here are meant to better understand the mechanisms at stake and to contribute to the development of early warning systems in a changing climate and environment. ... The Bunyaviridae family is divided into 5 genera: Orthobunyavirus, Nairovirus, Phlebovirus, Tospovirus, and Hantavirus. Like all members of this family, hantaviruses have genomes comprising three negative-sense, single-stranded RNA segments, and so are classified as negative sense RNA viruses. Viruses in the genus Hantavirus are unique in that they are transmitted by aerosolized rodent excretia or rodent bites, whereas all other genera in the Bunyaviridae family are arthropod-borne viruses. The name hantavirus is derived from the Hantan River, where the Hantaan virus (the etiologic agent of Korean hemorrhagic fever) was first isolated by Dr. Ho-Wang Lee and colleagues. The disease associated with Hantaan virus is called hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS), a term that is accepted by the World Health Organiza...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=416945 ... 5-0 out of 5 stars VERY GOOD!!!
I THOUGHT THAT THIS BOOK WAS VERY GOOD, LIKE ALL OF THE OTHER OTHER SWEET VALLEY BOOKS. I REALLY INJOYED! I LIKED HOW ELIZABETH IS GOING WITH OTHER PEOPLE AND NOT JUST NOT TODD. I REALLY SUGGEST THIS BOOK.

3-0 out of 5 stars I guess this book's okay.
In this book first Amy brings up the idea of a slam books and stuff like that and Liz does not really like the idea. But most other people love the idea. the problems start when olivia ans liz's boyfriend,JefferyFrench, get paired up. Olivia and Jeffery spend quite a lot of timetogether as they were doing something together, So liz suspects them andstarts flirting with A.J.morgan, a new guy in SVH. Then liz finds outthat her twin sis, Jessica has a crush on A.J. Then apologizes to Jess andtells her about the problem. then in the end liz and Jeffery are backtogether, liz apologizes to olivia for being rude and then everything'sbackk to normal.

1-0 out of 5 stars Some kind of miscommunicating, lying, girly girl book
This book was just about she likes him but then she is supposedly flirting with him but then this was said then no this happened. If you are confused on what I am saying then don't read this book. It was the most horriblepiece of crap I have ever read. I have better things to do with my time. Ifthis is how normal people act then I am glad I am me because I read moreintelligent books and don't waste my time like these two air-heads. Foronce I try to read something normal but to tell you the truth, like i saidbefore, this book was crap.

2-0 out of 5 stars Silly and predictable.
Jessica is in love with A.J., but can it last? A slam book has called Jess a big "flirt" and A.J. likes quiet, shy girls (girls like Liz). Can Jess completely transform her personality to make A.J. like her? What do you think? One important lesson to learn : Don't start slam books. They are more trouble than fun ... Read more
