Complete Teacher's Kit, need Student Book
You will need to purchase the student workbook, however, some of us are selling ours here as complete Teacher's kit including Teacher's Book, Meeting Book and Flash Cards.....However, after using course for two of my children I became tired of copying the worksheets so I just used the Student book up.....Under this ISBN # some of us have listed complete Teacher's Kit with Meeting Book and Flash Cards, you just have to scroll to page 3 and on to view them.....Loved the course and still using Saxon today, only at High school level now...

Great Work Book
This workbook has been a great resource to not only re-reinforce math concepts but to help me find out my daughter's specific weak areas that need to be explained in more detail.

Prior to using this work book my daughter truly hated using her school workbook.Now we use both and it isn't a struggle for her.Her work gets done and she experiences more success than frustration.This is a "Great Workbook" that has changed our homework and learning time to together from frustration to more success. This workbook primes my daughter for her school workbook. My daughter's math grades prove it too.

To be honest, this workbook has also helped me understand so much more about Third Grade Math--I have been out of school longer than I care to share; this workbook has sharpen my math too.

Saxon Math 3 Workbook
The Saxon Math program has been one of the best investments of our home school. The concepts and methods - thought by some as "old school" - are timeless. My children have greatly benefitted from the incremental approach and continual review of concepts. Math lessons are easy to understand, even for this Mom for whom Math was always a struggle throughout school. The early K-3 program well prepared my children to be partially independent by Math 54, and almost completely independent by high school. My only complaint regarding the Math 3 workbook is that the page quality is noticeably poor. I began noticing a change in paper quality last year with the workbooks for Math 2. Pages tore easily when removed from the workbook. However I am afraid that these new environmentally friendly worksheets not only tear easily, but also do not hold up to an eight year old's frequent erasures. Despite this, I still believe Saxon is an excellent investment.

Great Math System
Saxon has a great way for kids to learn and practice math.They review, and include all areas for daily practice instead of just a single subject per page(such as addition).This allows the child to keep each process in mind until it is learned and then becomes a review.

Good Ideas for Games
As a third grade teacher, I found that most of the games were very appropriate for my students. Some games required more preparation and creation of materials, which is why I gave the book 4 out of 5 stars. Otherwise, I think this is a great book! Outstanding!
Why am I reading a children's book - because I met Jaime Escalante years ago while he was teaching at Garfield, read about his achievements, and am very impressed by him.Author Schraff begins with Escalante's early life in Bolivia - bright son of two teachers, with a violent, drinking father. Escalante began teaching (physics) at age 21, while still going to school himself. He came to the U.S. at age 33 in 1963, at the urging of his wife. He spoke almost no English. In Bolivia he had been a poplar science and mathematics teacher; now he was looking for even car wash and restaurant work while his wife and son waited in Bolivia to join him.

In Pasadena he worked in a restaurant and attended school, then switched to working at Burroughs computer before graduating from California State University in 1973. In 1974, Escalante became a certified teacher in California at age 43. Arriving at Garfield High he found no learning going on - gangs, dropouts, rampant tardiness, material that was too easy, and a complacent staff and administration. By 1978 Escalante was teaching AP calculus - his first year two out of five passed, then 6 of 9, and 14 of 15. Escalante involved the parents, getting their support; in addition, the students came in early, stayed late, and worked extra at other times as well. Every class began with a five-minute quiz, and every week ended with a test. A considerable source of Escalante's success was due to his high expectations and ability to grab and retain the attention of normally restive and rebellious students. (The latter was accomplished through common interests such as sports, ability to relate to his pupils, and his own athletic ability - he would challenge pupils to handball, winners didn't have to complete their homework. Escalante always won. He was also an excellent boxer and not loathe to stand up and challenge his pupils.)

In 1982, Escalante had 18 AP students, and all passed. The Education Testing Service, however, suspected cheating, and requested retesting. Twelve returned, with little time for preparation, and all passed. Escalante became a hero, and by 1987 led 73 students to passing scores. However, jealousy from fellow teachers and administrators over the attention and awards Escalante received (a movie, honorary doctorates, visits from political notables, a trip to D.C. to meet President Reagan) caused Escalante to move to another school, and then retiring to Bolivia after 33 years of teaching in the U.S. and Bolivia. ...
