Shop Department of Statistics and Operations Research The Department of Statistics and Operational Research of the Technical University of Catalonia ( UPC ) was created in 1987 as a consequence of the University Reform Act, bringing together the various groups within the university that up to that time had been working separately in the areas of Statistics and Operational Research. The department has a staff of some 40 lecturers, who work at the School of Industrial Engineering of Barcelona ( ETSEIB ), the School of Industrial Engineering of Terrassa ( ETSEIT ), the Faculty of Computer Science of Barcelona ( FIB ) and the Faculty of Mathematics and Statistics ( FME ). It has its own doctorate programme, and runs postgraduate and master's courses. The department is engaged in a great deal of research activity.
