Newark's armadillo
I met the author of this book at the OCCC in Orlando, Florida on September 30th, 2010 where her book signing was one of the highlights in the conference organized by AARP.
After all she's been through (must read the book),she is all heart and soul,very friendly, loving and carrying person. As for the book, I read it in one sitting, I simply couldn't put it down. Newark's Armadillo is one of the best books I have ever read when it comes to a true story. This book should be a part of every home, to remind one that no matter how odd and hard is the path life leads you on, there's always a savior to give you strength to find the one you should walk on, walk the walk to find yourself stronger than ever.

Armadillos Sleep in Dugouts
This is a nice addition to books on animal habitats. Theintroduction of new vocabulary words, such as badgers'"setts" and armadillos' "dugouts" provides young readers with exposure to words they might not otherwise encounter. The rhymes, although occasionally awkward, are simple and to the point. Tank Girl Novel
This novel contains plenty of the tried and true post-apocalyptic beer-guzzling, butt-smoking, heat-packing, thigh-trembling, chest-heaving action. Death is much prettier in the form of a girl with a rerally big gun. Penis envy rocks.

I love Tank Girl. She came into my life at about age twelve and has always been there, even in her long absence from comics. I'll admit that though I highly enjoyed the latest series 'The Gifting' it did feel like something was missing with the absence of Jamie Hewlett's art. When I picked up Armadillo I assumed I would find the same hole Mr. Hewlett left. I couldn't have been more mistaken.

In this new medium, the world of Tank Girl is able to sprawl out before us in a vast new way. Gone are the constrictive bounds of the comic book panel, gone are the small clipped narratives and lack of inner monologue; all set free apart from the limits of our own imaginations.

I would recommend...no...I would insist that any long time Tank Girl fan pick this up and devour it as I did. The 156 page story, Armadillo! is comedic magnificence. The 2nd half called The Bushel is a nice collection of shorts, comic scripts and odd bits that are sure to burst or necessitate some stitches. Newer fans might want to familiarize themselves with some of the Tank Girl classics before delving into this world so they can completely appreciate the elevation of the characters, setting and general storytelling.

I always new Martin was a comedic genius, but he really shines brightest here all on his own.Until he gives us another volume like this one, I'll be rabidly craving more.

the world, as a conglomeration of chemical substances
This is a wonderful tour of a discipline that has been dismissed as far less sexy (less "ultimate") than cosmology or nanotechnology:the realm of biochemistry.Bloch sets out to change the impression of chemistry as a dull discipline - with great success.

The story of biochemistry, as he tells it, is full of riddles and surprises.It began in 1897, when Eduard Buchner ground up yeast cell with sand, plugged them into a bottle, and woke up to find the cork had popped out during the night.Seemingly so banal, this discovery overturned the "vitalist" notion of the processes of life, that they could operate solely in intact, living cells.It proved, instead, that cell physiology could be studied as purely chemical reactions.The next 50 years, which Bloch describes as the Golden Age of biochem, witnessed the discovery of enzymes and other molecules behine innumerable chemical processes.And the methods that scientists used were similar to those of Buchner:grind up cells to free their chemical constituents, and then attempt to predict their behavior under a variety of conditions.

Among the many notable repercussions of these experiments was the development of the science of nutrition - by isolating, purifying, and uncovering the molecular structure of amino acids, fatty acids, and vitamins.Once identified, researchers could experiment to find what combination led to better health.

But Bloch doesn't stop with these, and many similar, observations.In a series of delightful extrapolations, he explains why domestic cats need to hunt (they can't synthesize the amino acid taurine, so must find it in the meat of animals who can); how dark latin venetians used soap to bleach their hair blond (a hydrogen peroxide reaction that sunlight enabled); or the reasons that Amerindians ground corn meal on limestone (they needed a certain chemical added to corn to avoid developing bari bari).

Bloch also offers glimpses into the unknown, areas that are not yet explained but hold promising applications.The list is so long that the book must be read:they include the potential uses of thalidomide, insect secretions that might protect us, and the like.It is truly dazzling.What you get is a personal portrait of a vital field that the author, a Harvard Nobel Laureate, helped to create.The writing is also clear and vivid, never dry.

I LOVE THIS BOOK!
Shelby Hearon's "Armadillo in the Grass" is one of my top favorite books.The main character is Clare Blue, an artistic and poetic soul, who emerges deliciously over time in this book as a wonderfully complex?-or is it all so simple? woman.Women everywhere can identify with Clara Blue as she tackles the issues married women everywhere face:children, husband, finding our own identities fearlessly...I love this book.I have read it and re-read it many times and have made sure to purchase a copy for all my now-grown daughters.I enthusiastically recommend reading this book - in an overstuffed chair, late at night after husband and kids are in bed...:-)

Children are introduced to 12 mammals through how they swim in water; with additional information on the animals in a section following the main text. On left-hand pages are realistic illustrations of the animals swimming or in their natural habitat near water. The right-hand pages have cartoon-like illustrations of the young boy asking the question about the animals while taking a bath and also illustrations of the different animals involved with the boy in the bath.
