Amazon.com Review
Most asthma books focus on the physical impact of this disease and only briefly discuss the effects it can have on your lifestyle and sense of well-being. Living Well with Asthma addresses this issue in detail. Through anecdotes from asthma sufferers, the authors dispel myths and correct faulty assumptions using a simple four-question formula. To further topple self-defensive barriers to accepting and dealing with the disease, one chapter identifies the basic defense mechanisms people use and provides guidelines on how to overcome them. Subsequent chapters concentrate on practical advice for specific issues, such as handling asthma's effects on sex life, creating a more supportive family environment, and matching yourself to the best physician. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Living well with Asthma
This is a great book, very down to earth and practical. It is intended mostly for adults suffering from asthma, but I think it would also be good for family members to read and it gives information on living with childrenwith asthma too. The authors focus, not on the medical aspects of asthma, but on the day to day lives of asthma sufferers and how they can betterhandle problems in such areas as sex life, family relationships and work. The authors give concrete examples of specific problems and easy tounderstand solutions. They also give many case illustrations from theirwork with asthmatics. Most importantly, the book is easy and interesting toread. I was able to pick it up and read just the sections I most wanted toknow about without feeling lost. I strongly recommend this book to asthmasufferers and their friends and relatives, as well as to healthprofessionals who want to get a clearer picture of what asthma sufferersand their families go through and how to help them. ... Product Description

Global Development and Human Security explores thepossibility of connecting all countries to the global economywhile defusing the social tensions and managing thesecurity risks that can result from exposure to a turbulentinternational system. The complex intersection betweensecurity and development policies has not been adequatelymapped or explored. Frail and failing states that lack soundmarket and security institutions are the weak links in aninterconnected global system. Yet aid allocation principlesdiscourage engagement with these "difficult partners,"and the insular culture of development assistance hindersinteraction with the security community. In a world besetby "problems without passport" (infectious diseases, environmental pollution, international crime, conflictspillovers, terrorism, etc.), a new paradigm should supplantthe now obsolete development consensus.

The authors took stock of current development practicesthrough the prism of Sweden’s Shared Responsibilitybill, which addresses peace, security, opportunity, environmentalconservation, human rights, and democracy. Theresulting volume draws the implications of emerging threatsto global peace and prosperity for development policy andpractice. It seeks to build bridges of understanding betweenthe development community and the security establishmentby bringing together lessons of experience currentlyscattered in the literature. Each chapter is self-containedand includes policy findings and recommendations.

The book is principally aimed at practitioners who needup-to-date knowledge about security and developmentissues. Publication of this paperback edition makes thebook available for use as an introductory text for securityspecialists with little knowledge of development or for developmentspecialists with limited knowledge of security,or for college or university students in these areas. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great for GRE vocabulary test
Great for expanding your vocabulary for the GRE.Can listen in the car or while doing other things.Great help for improving my GRE score.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for SAT prep
I bought this for my daughter to augment her SAT Prep.Since she drives all the time, it was great for her to listen to the words in the car.I will use it for my other children as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent way to learn spectacular words while on the go.
This CD set was very helpful to me. I had previously tried to learn words by studying them in vocabulary books. That way of studying was not particularly helpful as it was easy to forget them the next day.

However, unlike those books, this CD set manages to be both helpful and amusing while allowing you learn by ear. The unpretentious speakers give out amusing anecdotes that you would hear in everyday life while using the words in context. An casual and "Average Joe" explanation is given after each word is mentioned. Never during the audio will you feel that the conversations are boring or hard to listen to.

I have to add, though, that it is more helpful if you listen to the CDs more than once and study the list of words (enclosed in the box) in order to cement them solidly in your mind.

For those who are studying for the new SAT, an additional perk is that many of these words can easily be used on the SAT Writing portion (essay) to impress the test scorers and get a high score. The vocabulary used in this set is also very useful for impressing bosses or teachers at school.

Overall, "Word Smart, Genius Edition" is a very nice way to learn unusual words and furnish your vocabulary while having a lot of fun.The audio set is a great investment for generating a greater linguistic vocabulary that will benefit you tremendously at work or school (or for impressing your friends, for that matter).

2-0 out of 5 stars Good production, lacks etymology, academic rigor
There are some good words on the five CDs (a bargain), although it takes some initial breaking in to not be annoyed by the flamboyant speakers. What the CD completely lacks, as it was purported to have, is a discussion of the roots of words. This discussion was rarely had, and in one case (to my knowledge), was incorrect. Not for any serious Classics student hoping to reconnect with contemporary roots.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun Way to Expand Your Vocabulary
This sets contains 5 CDs and goes through about 150 words.Of all Word Smart Vocabulary Building set CDs, this one has the most interesting words.

The first CD covers the vocabulary related to: Cruel to Be Kind; Country Mouse and City Mouse.

The second CD coverts the vocabulary related to: For Better or for Worse; War and Peace.

The third CD covers the vocabulary related to: From Mountains to Molehills; Rogers and Hart.

The fourth CD covers the vocabulary related to:Earth and Sky; Womb to Tomb.

The fifth CD covers the vocabulary related to: Socrates and Plato; Mutt and Jeff.

The recordings are very entertaining to listen to.After defining the words, they are dramatized, often in a humorous way, adding fun to the learning process. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Treatment
Do you know what a Capped grope is? If so, this is the book for you! This is a really readable, though understandably advanced, book. It seems to contain everything a person could possibly want to know about embedding a disk in a 4-manifold. I'm far from an expert on 4-manifolds, but I haven't seen much of this material presented anywhere else. If you want to become a master of 4-manifolds, you need this book like Luke Skywalker needed Yoda.

My copy doesn't have the cool orange cover so I feel a little sad. Hopefully you won't get the brown one like me.

5-0 out of 5 stars The weirdness of four-manifolds
Lee Carlson's review can hardly be improved upon, but I have one addendum, responding to his lament at the end of the review:

A concrete construction of a fake 4-space can be found in the last section of Chapter 1 of Dan Freed and Karen Uhlenbeck's (1984, revised 1991) book, "Instantons and Four-Manifolds", a great compliment to Freedman and Quinn's book. Unfortunately, it's just as hard to find and about three times as costly as the reviewed book. Unless you really can't live without seeing how this is done, take it on faith (not much consolation to a physicist who wants to know if black holes behave differently in fake spacetime). A cheaper alternative: If you visit a major university math library and take a bunch of quarters for their copier, the relevant Ch.1, "Fake R^4", is fourteen pages long.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant overview of topology in 4 dimensions
It is too bad this book is out of print, for it introduces the reader to a fascinating branch of topology and has the clearest proof of the 4-dimensional Poincare conjecture. In addition, the authors do not hesitate to employ diagrams as needed to illustrate the main points and to assist the reader in visualizing 4-dimensional objects. The authors give a fine discussion as to the reasons why four dimensions is harder to deal with topologically than dimensions five or greater, this being essentially due to the behavior of 2-dimensional disks: mapping 2-disks into 3-manifolds results (generically) with 1-dimensional self-intersections; in 4-dimensions the intersections are isolated points, and in 5 dimensions or more the 2-disks can be embedded.

Interestingly, the authors choose not to employ the famous "Kirby calculus" in the proofs of the main results, despite the fact that it was used extensively in their earlier works. They break the book into two parts, the first one emphasizing embedding theorems and the second one the structure of manifolds. Those readers interested in the proof of the 4-dimensional Poincare conjecture will find it in chapter 7, as a consequence of the authors proof of the h-cobordism theorem, the latter being nontrivial. It is the absence of a smooth structure on the h-cobordism that makes it so difficult in dimension four.

The existence of exotic structures on 4-manifolds is discussed in detail in chapter 8 and the authors endeavor to show why dimension 4 is unique compared to higher dimensions. The existence of exotic structures on 4-manifolds is definitely interesting, and has recently been shown to have importance in physics. But physicists who need an explicit example of one of these structures will not find one here, and I know of no such examples in the literature. Such an example would be interesting from the standpoint of the behavior of quantum field theories on such 4-manifolds, as one would like to know if this behavior would indeed be different than that on the manifold with the "standard structure". ... Being a fan of Liza I grabbed the book off the shelf without my usual once over -- had I done that I would have noticed the absolute lack of an index and bibliography, a dead giveaway that the book is the work of a hack -- Liza is one of the greatest stars of the 20th century and certainly deserves better than this sorry piece of trash -- My God, the woman gave one of the great film performances in Cabaret, and Freedland skims over the entire making of the film and the reviews Liza received -- a loathsome book, one of the worst bios I have read -- it will take a place in our washroom, and not for reading -- the pages will be put to good use in there. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Please update this series!!

PLEASE UPDATE THIS SERIES, PRINCETON REVIEW!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Cursory Resource
I have had "Culturescope" for a few years.I refer to it, on and off, for several reasons...one of which is when I know I will be with a group of people involved in an area or profession about which I know nothing or little.

For this purpose, the book offers material for conversation starters, the ability to ask pertinent questions, and for assessing changes in an industry or profession.(I also enjoy trivia, and this is a good source for information.)

As an educator and writer, the book is a good jumping off point for questions to stimulate learning, as well as a guide to some basic information, precluding the need for indepth research.(For example, I needed only a few terms related to horses, and found the meanings behindDam, Sire, Gelding, The Call, and Oatburner without digging through volumes on horses.)

It has information for practically every level of learner, from grade school children on up.

The reason I am writing a review after having the book for so long is, I was looking to see if the staff of Princeton had done an update since the 1995 edition.

I look forward to a new one.

I love this book, and Michael Thompson is a great photographer. I always buy a magazine if i know he has a photo spread in it...really great

5-0 out of 5 stars amazing fashion photograher
Michael Thompson is one of my favorite fashion photographers.I first noticed his work in Allure magazine, and then in other magazines as well.It is to the point where I can look in any magazine, and almost identify his work without looking at the title.I then searched him online, and found this book. This book is amazing. His photography skills are out of this world, and his color choices and light balances are amazing. His photos have you staring at them for minutes if not hours looking at the subject and it's lighting structure.I wish I could say my favorite photo, but the book isn't with me at the moment. The one of the lips with the purple square on them is brilliant and the one with the bodies and the orange paint curved around them is great. The color balance, and the contrast really work on every photo, and he is an amazing artist.A true fashion photographer, is at first an artist.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected...
I've heard about this fashion photographer so when I bought his book, I expected models and beautiful pictures. The book was over 100 pages long but half of them were blank! Also, many of the pictures are odd, like a person, naked in blue paint. There was another pictures of a finger in red powder. The best picture is the cover and that's it. If you're expecting models and designer clothes, this is not the book for you.

Product Description
Today's rapidly changing and globally competitive business environment mandates that 21st century leaders develop new models and innovative learning processes of organizational leadership. To meet these shifting needs, Action Learning (AL) has emerged as a key training and problem-solving tool for companies as diverse as Nokia, Samsung, Boeing, GE, Motorola, Marriott, General Motors, Deutsche Bank, and British Airways. These and hundreds of other companies around the world now employ AL for strategic planning to develop managers, identify competitive advantages, reduce operating costs, and create high-performing teams.

What exactly is Action Learning? Simply described, it is a dynamic process that involves a small group of people solving real organizational problems, while focusing on how their learning can benefit individuals, groups, and the larger organization. The emphasis on learning is what makes this process strategic rather than tactical in equipping leaders to more effectively respond to change.

This book demonstrates how Action Learning can quickly and effectively be introduced, implemented, and sustained in any type or size of organization using six key components: a diverse group of 4 to 8 members; an urgent task or problem; a question-driven communication process; implementation of action strategies; a commitment to learning; and an AL team coach. It features useful business case examples that illustrate the power of AL in successfully developing leaders, solving problems, building teams, and transforming organizations. Recent developments that include skilled coaching and question-based dialogue make it an even more powerful tool in leadership and organizational development. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great synthesis of action learning research and applications
This book provides new case studies and clear, practical ways of applying action learning in the workplace.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing though your mileage may vary
Action Learning for Developing Leaders and Organizations is written by several top researchers and practitioners on the powerful tool of Action Learning. It is billed as "the definitive book on Action Learning for years to come" where "theory and practice really come together."

I had read an article on Marquardt's earlier and pioneering book Optimizing the Power of Action Learning: Solving Problems and Building Leaders in Real Time and thought it was an excellent approach to leadership development. I hoped to learn more and apply it within a small non-profit organization. I decided to go with this book instead as it was newer, larger, and described as extremely practical, even though there were no reviews for the book at Amazon. I'm disappointed to say that was probably not the right choice.

It would be more accurate to describe this book as a comprehensive academic approach to action learning, of benefit to those interested in the psychology of learning, with many pages defending/promoting the use of action learning as superior to other approaches, or to very large organizations who want to justify launching a large scale AP program. I found too little of interest or practical value to a person in a smaller organization hoping to put together an intentional program of leadership development where none current exists. It read almost like a 'Conference Proceedings' rather than a book aimed at helping business leaders to develop their people with a hands-on approach to learning.

For example, I was glad to see that part III of the book was dedicated to best practices, but the first 35 or so pages here laboriously describe data that justifies the effectiveness of action learning. The following chapter describes some pretty basic and obvious steps, and presents a number of case studies (primarily for very large global companies). These comments are not to dismiss the book altogether - it's a high quality resource written by experts that will appeal to those already well-versed in Action Learning, to those interested in the foundations of AL, and educators interested in organizational learning. ... Product Description
This book, the inaugural volume in the University Lecture Series, is based on lectures presented at Pennsylvania State University in February 1987. The lectures attempt to give a taste of the accomplishments of manifold topology over the last 30 years. By the late 1950s, algebra and topology had produced a successful and beautiful fusion. Geometric methods and insight, now vitally important in topology, encompass analytic objects such as instantons and minimal surfaces, as well as nondifferentiable constructions. Keeping technical details to a minimum, the authors lead the reader on a fascinating exploration of several developments in geometric topology. They begin with the notions of manifold and smooth structures and the Gauss-Bonnet theorem, and proceed to the topology and geometry of foliated 3-manifolds. They also explain, in terms of general position, why four-dimensional space has special attributes, and they examine the insight Donaldson theory brings. The book ends with a chapter on exotic structures on $\mathbf R^4$, with a discussion of the two competing theories of four-dimensional manifolds, one topological and one smooth. Background material was added to clarify the discussions in the lectures, and references for more detailed study are included. Suitable for graduate students and researchers in mathematics and the physical sciences, the book requires only background in undergraduate mathematics. It should prove valuable for those wishing a not-too-technical introduction to this vital area of current research. ... Read more

Product Description
In a book as controversial as Harold Bloom’s The Book of J and Elaine Pagels’s The Gnostic Gospels, David Noel Freedman delves into the Old Testament and reveals a pattern of defiance of the Covenant with God that inexorably led to the downfall of the nation of Israel, the destruction of the Temple, and the banishment of survivors from the Promised Land. Book by book, from Exodus to Kings, Freedman charts the violation of the first nine Commandments one by one–from the sin of apostasy (the worship of the golden calf, Exodus 32) to murder (the death of a concubine, Judges 19:25—26) to false testimony (Jezebel’s charges against her neighbor, Naboth, I Kings 21).

Because covetousness lies behind all the crimes committed, Freedman shows, each act implicitly breaks the Tenth Commandment as well. In a powerful and persuasive argument, Freedman asserts that this hidden trail of sins betrays the hand of a Master Weaver or Editor who has skillfully woven into Israel’s history a message to a community in exile that their fate is not the result of God’s abandoning them but of their willful abandonment of God. With wit and insight, The Nine Commandments boldly challenges previous scholarship and conventional beliefs, and appeals to the same audience that has propelled Thomas Cahill’s books and other recent explorations of the history of religion onto bestseller lists across the country.Amazon.com Review
The Nine Commandments is David Noel Freedman's daringly original reading of the early history of the Israelites. Freedman's thesis is as follows: "Hidden in the Bible is a previously unrecognized pattern of commandment violations that has gone undetected for over 2,000 years. In the books spanning from Exodus to Kings the nation of Israel is presented as thoroughly defying its covenant with God by breaking each of the Ten Commandments, one by one, book by book, until there are none--leaving God with only one choice: the destruction of the nation." (The book is titled The Nine Commandments because the pattern it describes is of nine commandments being violated in nine books; Freedman argues that the remaining commandment, against covetousness, is implicitly broken in the perpetration of the other nine offenses.) Furthermore, Freedman believes this pattern indicates the presence of a "Master Editor" who arranged these stories in this order so that readers would be discouraged from emulating Israel's rebelliousness. Freedman, a professor of Hebrew studies at the University of California, San Diego, and general editor of the Anchor Bible series, backs up his ingenious and controversial claims with close textual readings and informs them with deep knowledge of the biblical texts. --Michael Joseph Gross ... No bones about it, this book is well-written.Freedman gives a quick review on the development of Hebrew monotheism out of the older Canaanite polytheism, and then proceeds onto his argument. The argument is well-written and at least superficially persuasive, but after thinking about it I'm not sure I'm convinced.Freedman makes too many assumptions about the "symmetry" of the Ten Commandments that have no precedent in the text itself; in his discussion of the symmetry of the Bible as a whole I was afraid he was getting dangerously close to numerology or such similar pseudoscience, but thankfully, as befits his reputation, he stuck to accepted methods of analysis in the end.But sticking to accepted standards does not make your argument air-tight: as Freedman himself admits, there are many exceptions to his "rule," which he dismisses, but which I find personally to be damaging to his thesis. The fact that he has to make covetousness a "background commandment" is, as has been noted, special pleading, as is the placing of the first two violations in Exodus, with none in Genesis (none that he counts anyway; in reality there are many in Genesis). This means that the nine commandments are broken in eight books instead of nine. His rearrangement of the order of commandments 6-8 is not as solidly based as he claims either, and there is actually no breaking of the fifth commandment (the example Freedman gives is in reality a law, not an actual event, but he makes an excuse for this as well).Overall, I think the "patterns" Freedman claims to detect are just coincidence, but this is a great book to read none-the-less because it is honest, scholarly, and novel.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book, and Easy to Read and Understand
Re: the omitted "10th" commandment -- it's no mystery that coveting was also the commandment that tripped up the Apostle Paul (see Romans 7). While breaking the other commandments would be known by outward acts of disobedience, the commandment against coveting was the commandment that preceded and underlay the breaking of the others, yet remained hidden within a man's soul (and sometimes even hidden from himself) until it manifested itself by the breaking of one of the other commandments. James also lays the blame for man's sins on coveting (James 4:1ff). Freedman is right to single out this commandment from the other nine, as it's the scarlet thread (Freedman's oft-used term for his thesis) that ties the other nine -- indeed, man's whole fallen nature, INCLUDING the cause of the Fall (Eve's desire/coveting of the forbidden fruit) -- together. Recognizing this leads one to the Apostle's cry (and solution) in Romans 7:24-25. Failing to recognize this leads to the abortive attempts at righteousness that the Apostle also describes in Romans 10:3.

But back to the book: This is so well-written, so accessible, that the most ill-educated (biblically) layman or laywoman can read this with pleasure and understanding. Bravo, David Noel Freedman! Even if you don't agree with all of it, it's worth reading all of it.

5-0 out of 5 stars High recommendations for this highly original work
It's rare to find a well-written, well-informed, highly-original book on any subject, much less the heavily-mined territory of Biblical Studies.Unlike Bloom's The Book of J, this book is actually written by a respected biblical scholar.

The book explains many of the unusual word choices and locutions you encounter if you manage to read the whole thing, especially the differing order of commandments across the Old and New Testaments. Some of the discussion smacks of special pleading (can't make the commandment against covetousness fit your theory?must fit in as a 'background commandment' for the rest...).

Overall, however, the author makes a very persuasive case for an outside editor who edited in references to the 10 commandments thruout the early books of the Old Testament. The author treats the subject matter with reverence and tact, and the 'editor theory' helps explain the remarkable cohesiveness and literary quality to a book compiled over a millenium.

Nicely illustrated and written almost as a detective novel, this book is highly recommended. Plus, you now have only nine commandments to worry about (oops, forgot that covetousness one)!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Master Weaver and the countdown to oblivion
A theory so plausible and eloquently argued that you want to give yourself a V-8 forehead slap. Freedman looks at the Ten Commandments (yes, he addresses ALL ten of them) in relationship to the Primary History in the Bible (the nine books from Genesis through Kings, minus Ruth). Along the way he disburses some very interesting information that will enhance Bible readers' future experience with the Bible texts: he explains the practice of "the pairing of texts" in the Hebrew Bible, makes compelling points about Jeremiah's relationship to the Primary History, contrasts monotheism with henotheism and monolatry, and gives a fascinating explanation of how the Hebrew divining stones, the Urim and Thummim, probably worked.

I've always felt Bible readers have made the mistake of elevating the Torah/Pentateuch at the expense of the rest of the Old Testament. Freedman's thesis seems to defend the integrity of the Hebrew Scriptures as a whole. He shows how the Israelites broke each of the Commandments they received in the wilderness. Not only broke them, but with minimal adjustments to sequencing, Freedman shows that they broke them in order. This breaking of the Commandments constitutes a "scarlet thread" that runs through the Primary History and that ultimately explains why the Israelites suffered defeat and exile at the hands of God's enemies. But there are ten commandments and only nine books in the Primary History. Which commandment does not get represented by a specfic sinful act in a book of its own is a mystery Freedman does not answer until the last chapter. The suspense makes this highly accessible scholarly work, a bit of a page-turner.

If you read this book and enjoy it, you might also like the equally fascinating but more ambitious "Surpassing Wonder: The Invention of the Bible and the Talmuds," by Donald Harman Akenson. ... Read more

Product Description

Plays and Playwrights 2009 is the tenth volume in our series of newly produced plays by emerging playwrights. The plays included in this anthology cover the breadth of indie theater as seen on stage during the past season. They represent what is on the mind of theatre artists today. You will find, unusual for our anthologies, three solo pieces (American Badass, A Fire As Bright As Heaven, and Krapp, 39). Also included are three very different plays about different kinds of loss (Linus & Alora, Sister Cities, and TRACES/fades), all beautifully envisioned. Two of the plays ( Death at Film Forum and Krapp, 39) use multi media to tell their own personal stories. And two other plays deal with very different aspects of intolerance in this new century (Nowhere On the Border and S/He. ). Conversation Storm defies most all attempts at categorizing as it re-interprets while, at the same time, breaking many of the rules of traditional theatre while telling a timely story of today. The anthology is rounded out with Hospital 2008 which incorporates many of the above themes as a four-part story with hints of realism, absurdism, mystery, and dark humor.

Here is a quick rundown of the contents of this new volume: HOSPITAL 2008 by Randy Sharp and Axis Company: A four-part serial play that explores the unconscious memories of a man in a coma. LINUS & ALORA by Andrew Irons: A whimsical and poetical exploration of the powers of imagination: a lot can happen in nine months. SISTER CITIES by Colette Freedman: Four sisters reunite following their mother s alleged suicide in this surprising and incisive comedy. S/HE by Nanna Nick Mwaluko: The journey from Samantha to Sam: a young African American biological female struggles with gender and becomes a man. DEATH AT FILM FORUM by Eric Bland: Aspiring filmmaker/auteurs compete a la Project Runway in this very funny mixed media satirical drama. TRACES/FADES by Lenora Champagne: A meditation on Alzheimer s and our national inability to remember history. NOWHERE ON THE BORDER by Carlos Lacamara: A timely drama about a Mexican father searching the Arizona desert for his missing daughter, and the American Minuteman who detains him. AMERICAN BADASS, OR 12 CHARACTERS IN SEARCH OF A NATIONAL IDENTITY by Chris Harcum: In a dozen monologues, a look at who we are in 2008 and how we may have gotten that way. A FIRE AS BRIGHT AS HEAVEN by Tim Collins: An epic solo tour de force chronicling the past seven years of American upheaval. CONVERSATION STORM by Rick Burkhardt: A mind-blowing exercise in the justification of torture, in a taut, concise, single act. KRAPP, 39 by Michael Laurence: Haunted by Beckett s Krapp, a 39-year-old actor throws himself a birthday party in this deeply personal solo play about the last moments of youth.

As with all our anthologies, a detailed introduction is included by editor Martin Denton, a Foreword by playwright Garth Wingfield, and permission information for producing the plays.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best play anthology!!!!
What a wonderful collection! So many complex and engaging plays at one's fingertips. Colette Freedman's black comedy Sister Cities was a stand out, as was Nick Mwaluko's darkly complex He/She. I strongly recommend this collection for any playwright, actor, director or producer. So many wonderful opportunities here!

5-0 out of 5 stars Read Colette Freedman!!
Once again, great read!! Anything by Freedman is something EVERYONE should read before they are required too!! She's so talented. "Sister Cities" is an excellent example of writing that other writers should take notes and learn from - read the script and see the play!!!

This is a great collection of plays!

I especially loved Sister Cities!Colette Freedman is an amazing talent!Tremendously well written and fantastically paced, Sister Cities is a macabre, hilarious and heart breaking story that will stay with you long after you've finished reading it.Freedman is a delicious cross between Theresa Rebeck and Caryl Churchill.I can't wait to read her next play!

5-0 out of 5 stars i saw the play, bought the book, am wondering if there's a T shirt.
I was fortunate enough to see freedman's play Sister Cities at the edinburgh fringe festival 2008.
it was one of those experiences you rarely get in a theatre - auditorium, packed to capacity, the audience, from the start, going with all of the play's many twists and turns.
I enjoyed the show so much, but my nose was a little out of joint because there are frankly some brilliant speeches in there and I didn't think it was available in print.
I am a very happy camper.
Thanks for this book. Sister Cities on it's own is a great play but to get the others to boot - big spectacular extra bonus
Really if you're interested in theatre? - you ought to read these plays ... Read more

Product Description
This monograph describes and quantifies the risk of developing new malignancies among more than 2 million cancer survivors for the period 1973 to 2000, utilizing data from the National Cancer Institute's Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) Program cancer registries. With chapters organized according to the initial site of cancer, the monograph provides data on the risks of subsequent malignancies for more than 50 adult and 18 childhood cancers, including new data on uncommon sites and individual histologic types. NCI researchers systematically examined the risks of subsequent cancers by gender, age at diagnosis of the initial cancer, and time since diagnosis, as well as the initial treatment and histologic type of certain cancers. Each chapter compares the patterns of multiple cancers with the findings from other studies, and discusses the results in terms of potential risk factors and mechanisms ... Read more
