What is tendonitis?
Tendons are fibrous bands of tissue that connect the muscles to the bones. Tendonitis develops when these bands become inflamed and irritated from tiny tears. What is the most common tendonitis? It is most common in the achilles tendon which is located above your heel, and in the elbow. Achilles tendonitis can be caused by physical activities such as running and aerobics . Wearing shoes that are not well-cushioned and exercising on a hard surface can also irritate the condition by causing a strain or tears in the tendon. The extent of pain will vary depending on the seriousness of the injury. To help prevent achilles tendonitis, warm-up by stretching the calf muscle and achilles tendon before exercising. Rotator Cuff Problems
The rotator cuff is a group of 4 muscles that helps to lift your shoulder up over your head and also rotate it toward and away from your body. The major muscle that is usually involved is called the supraspinatus muscle Rotator Cuff Problems are usually broken up into the following categories - click on any of the categories to learn more about it. Achilles Tendonitis
Definition
Achilles tendonitis causes inflammation and degeneration of the achilles tendon. The achilles tendon is the large tendon located in the back of the leg that inserts into the heel. The pain caused by achilles tendonitis can develop gradually without a history of trauma. The pain can be a shooting pain, burning pain, or even an extremely piercing pain. Achilles tendonitis should not be left untreated due to the danger that the tendon can become weak and ruptured. Achilles Tendonitis is aggravated by activities that repeatedly stress the tendon, causing inflammation. In some cases even prolonged periods of standing can cause symptoms. It is a common problem often experienced by athletes, particularly distance runners. Achilles Tendonitis is a difficult injury to treat in athletes due to their high level of activity and reluctance to stop or slow down their training. Individuals who suffer from achilles tendonitis often complain that their first steps out of bed in the morning are extremely painful. Another common complaint is pain after steps are taken after long periods of sitting. This pain often lessens with activity.

Introduction
Problems that affect the achilles tendon are common among active middle aged people. These problems cause pain at the back of the calf, and may result in a rupture of the Achilles tendon in severe cases.
Anatomy
The Achilles tendon is a strong, fibrous band that connects the calf muscle to the heel. The calf is actually formed by two muscles, the underlying soleus and the thick outer gastrocnemius. Together, they form the gastroc-soleus muscle group. When they contract, they pull on the Achilles tendon causing your foot to point down and helping you raise up on your toes. This powerful muscle group helps when you sprint, jump, or climb. Several different problems can occur that affect the Achilles tendon, some rather minor and some quite severe. Tendocalcaneal Bursitis - A bursa is a fluid filled sac designed to limit friction between rubbing parts. These sacs, or bursae, are found in many places in the body. When a bursa becomes inflamed it is called a bursitis. Tendocalcaneal bursitis is an

Introduction
Because we use our feet continuously, tendonitis in the foot is a common problem. One of the most frequently affected tendons is the posterior tibial tendon
Anatomy
The posterior tibial tendon runs behind the inside bump on the ankle (the medial malleolus ), across the instep, and into the bottom of the foot. The tendon is important in supporting the arch of the foot and helps turn the foot inward during walking.
Causes
Problems with the posterior tibial tendon seem to occur in stages. Initially, irritation of the outer covering of the tendon called the paratenon causes a paratendonitis . This simply indicates that there is inflammation around the tendon as it runs through the tunnel behind the medial malleolus. As we age, a tendon is subject to degeneration within the substance of the tendon. The term degeneration means that wear and tear occurs in the tendon over time and leads to a situation where the tendon is weaker than normal. Degeneration in a tendon usually shows up as a loss of the normal arrangement of the fibers of the tendon. Tendons are made up of strands of a material called

ACHILLES TENDONITIS
INTRODUCTION TO ACHILLES HEEL Achilles tendonitis is a major problem amongst runners of all ages. As the name suggests Achilles tendonitis affects the achilles tendon. The achilles tendon connects the heel of the foot to the calve muscles. SYMPTOMS OF ACHILLES HEEL
  • Pain may be present at the achilles tendon during exercise. The pain may increase once activity has ceased. Tenderness may be felt along the course of the tendon. There may be the presence of a localized nodule on the tendon. The soles of the patient’s shoes may show an abnormal shoe wear pattern.
CAUSES OF ACHILLES HEEL
  • The biggest contributing factor is ignoring the pain in the tendon and trying to run through the pain. Sudden increases in training can lead to achilles tendonitis. Excessive hill running or speed work. Inappropriate shoes. If the soles of the shoes are too stiff, this causes the forefoot to have limited movement. This can lead to increased tension to the achilles tendon. Studies have shown that excessive heel cushioning can be a contributing factor. Air filled heels are not very good for achilles tendonitis. If you wear a shoe that is designed to give greater shock absorption, what frequently happens is that when the heel makes contact with the ground it continues to sink lower while the shoe is absorbing the shock. This causes the achilles tendon to be stretched.
