Extractions: Currently, there are 26 personnel, including 11 Ph.D.-level scientists, in the center. Facilities include a 92-earthen pond research station, a 40-pool experimental unit, and a hatchery building for spawning and tank studies. Additional laboratory facilities include an aquarium-wet laboratory, water quality and fish nutrition laboratories, in addition to a teaching laboratory. The center also operates a 200-acre demonstration farm of commercial-scale ponds in Lonoke, Arkansas. The Arkansas aquaculture industry provides several scholarships for UAPB fisheries students and in-kind support for research and extension programs. In-kind support includes donations of fish, feed, and equipment for particular studies, as well as farm inputs for on-farm demonstrations and trials. The partnership provides for a comprehensive support structure for the growing aquaculture industry and ready access to research-based solutions to challenges faced by the industry. UAPB and USDA benefit from the rapid adoption and high impact of their research programs, and students benefit from experience with and exposure to the aquaculture industry.
