Excerpt: An avalanche is a rapid flow of snow down a slope, from either natural triggers or human activity. Typically occurring in mountainous terrain, an avalanche can mix air and water with the descending snow. Powerful avalanches have the capability to entrain ice, rocks, trees, and other material on the slope. Avalanches are primarily composed of flowing snow, and are distinct from mudslides, rock slides, and serac collapses on an icefall. In mountainous terrain avalanches are among the most serious objective hazards to life and property, with their destructive capability resulting from their potential to carry an enormous mass of snow rapidly over large distances. Avalanches are classified by their morphological characteristics, and are rated by either their destructive potential, or the mass of the downward flowing snow. Some of the morphological characteristics used to classify avalanches include the type of snow involved, the nature of the failure, the sliding surface, the propagation mechanism of the failure, the trigger of the avalanche, the slope angle, direction, and elevation. Avalanche size, mass, and destructive potential are rated on a logarithmic scale, typically made up of 4 to 7 categories, with the precise definition of the categories depending on the observation system or forec...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=73321 ... Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Andorra is a small, landlocked country in southwestern Europe, located in the eastern Pyrenees mountain range and bordered by Spain and France. With an area of 468 km², it is the sixth smallest country in Europe and also the largest of the European microstates. Andorra consists predominantly of rugged mountains, the highest being the Coma Pedrosa at 2,942 metres, and the average elevation of Andorra is 1,996 metres. These are dissected by three narrow valleys in a Y shape that combine into one as the main stream, the Gran Valira river, leaves the country for Spain. Andorra's climate is similar to that of its neighbours' temperate climates, but its higher elevation means there is, on average, more snow in winter, lower humidity, and it is slightly cooler in summer. There are, on average, 300 days per year of sunshine. ... Read more

Product Description
Webster's bibliographic and event-based timelines are comprehensive in scope, covering virtually all topics, geographic locations and people. They do so from a linguistic point of view, and in the case of this book, the focus is on "Andorra," including when used in literature (e.g. all authors that might have Andorra in their name). As such, this book represents the largest compilation of timeline events associated with Andorra when it is used in proper noun form. Webster's timelines cover bibliographic citations, patented inventions, as well as non-conventional and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities in usage. These furthermore cover all parts of speech (possessive, institutional usage, geographic usage) and contexts, including pop culture, the arts, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This "data dump" results in a comprehensive set of entries for a bibliographic and/or event-based timeline on the proper name Andorra, since editorial decisions to include or exclude events is purely a linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under "fair use" conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain. ... Read more

Excerpt:The Pyrenees (also spelled Pyrenées, pronounced ; Spanish: ; French: , IPA: ; Catalan: ; Occitan: ; Aragonese: ; Basque: ) are a range of mountains in southwest Europe that form a natural border between France and Spain. They separate the Iberian Peninsula from the rest of continental Europe, and extend for about 430 km (267 mi) from the Bay of Biscay (Cap Higuer) to the Mediterranean Sea (Cap de Creus). For the most part, the main crest forms a massive divider between France and Spain, with the tiny country of Andorra sandwiched in between. Catalonia and Navarre have historically extended on both sides of the mountain range, with small northern portions in France and much larger southern parts in Spain. Pyrene is the nymph of classical mythology who, according to legend, gave its name to the Pyrenees. This legend attempts to explain (but not very well) how a mountain range that was worshipped as a god by the early inhabitants came to be. According to the legend, the hero Heracles came to Iberia, with the purpose of stealing the oxen of Gerión, a monstrous giant who attempted to possess the nymph Pyrene. But Pyrene fled and hid in an area between Spain and France. Gerión then burned the entire area in order to find her. Pyrene, on the verge of burning to death, shrieked and cried in desperation, and her tears created the mountain lakes. Heracles heard her and came to her rescue. When he found her, the nymph was already in agony and only had time enough to tell the hero what has happened. Heracles, deeply moved by Pyrenes tragic ending, erected a mausoleum over her dead body, by piling up all the stones and rocks he could find, thus creating a grea...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=24707 ...
