Industry Risk Ratings Synopsis

This Industry Risk Ratings report from IBISWorld evaluates the inherent risks associated with the Home Appliance & Other Repair Services in the US industry. Industry Risk is assumed to be 'the difficulty, or otherwise, of the business operating environment'.

The report looks at the operational risk associated with this industry. Three types of risk are recognized in our analysis. These are: risk arising from within the industry itself (structural risk), risks arising from the expected future performance of the industry (growth risk) and risk arising from forces external to the industry (external sensitivity risk).

Risk Overview

The Risk Overview chapter includes sections on Industry Definition and Activities, Industry Risk Score and Risk Rating Analysis.The Industry Definition and Activities section provides a detailed definition of the activities carried out by operators in this industry as defined in NAICS.A list of the primary activities of the industry is also included. The Industry Risk Score section provides the Overall Industry Risk Score as well as the Risk Scores for each of the three types of risk covered that combine to form the Overall Industry Risk Score. These three types of risk are Structural Risk, Growth Risk and External Sensitivity Risk. The Risk Rating Analysis section discusses the underlying factors contributing to the Overall Industry Risk Score.

Structural Risk

The Structural Risk chapter looks at risk arising from within the industry itself and provides a detailed discussion of the industrys level of exposure to seven key indicators.These key indicators are Barriers to Entry, Competition, Industry Exports, Industry Imports, Level of Assistance, Life Cycle Stage and Volatility of Industry.The Overall Structural Risk Score is a weighted aggregation of these seven key indicators.Each of the key indicators is discussed in detail in this section.

Growth Risk

The Growth Risk chapter looks at risks arising from the expected future performance of the industry. The Overall Growth Risk Score is determined by amalgamating the scores for Recent Industry Growth and Forecast Industry Growth. Detailed analysis is provided discussing the reasons for the growth scores of both.

Sensitivity Risk

The Sensitivity Risk chapter looks at risks arising from forces (sensitivities) external to the industry. The Overall External Sensitivity Risk Score is determined by identifying the most significant (up to 6) external factors and weighting them to represent how significant each sensitivity is to the performance of the industry.Examples of External Sensitivities are Exchange Rates, Interest Rates, Commodity Prices and Government Regulations. There is also a detailed analysis of the affect each of the sensitivities has on the industry, including charts and data tables where appropriate.

This chapter provides an overview of how IBISWorld defines Industry Risk and discusses the methodology used to arrive at an Industry Risk Score.There is also a table that provides a definition of the seven levels of Industry Risk.

ok for old washers
this book covers most repairs for older washers.
It does NOT deal with front loading washers.
I guess some repairs are similar whether it's for a top or front loading like pump or motor.
Also: washers tend to have more and more electronics which is not covered in this book.
Get it used, it's still a good start.

Fix my Washer!!
A well-written and easy to read and understand manual. He covers common problems for all washers, then breaks everything down by manufacturers, telling you the most common problems each individual brand of washer usually has. The manual also lets you know what is and isn't usually worth the money and trouble to repair. Douglas Emley wrote the manual assuming you haven't worked in appliance repair all your life. For me, the book was well worth the money.

Useless
I flipped through this book for five minutes, then threw it in the trash. It's old, has poor diagrams, and is simple a waste of money. Sears sells a book on dryer repair, which you can usually find at their Parts department. It can be used for any brand, not just Kenmore. I was able to give my dryer a complete tuneup using that book.

It took 4 weeks for it to arrive but that was my fault like. The book was helpfull in some ways and in other it wasn't. I was a litle confused that it did not include my dishwasher. However with a lttle bit of studying I sucesfully fixed, it, in a fashion. However mywife didn'tlike the noise the machine made after I fixed,(we have since divorced,but it was other problems). I hope this was helpfull.

Washing Machine Repair

This book covers the main parts of the wahing machine and shows pictures of the parts so that you can identify them. With a little knowledge of machanics you can fix a lot of the problems that come up , without calling a repair man for every little thing. Well worth the investment.

A great reference book

Clothes Dryer Repair
The same day that I received the book, I was able to correct the problem with the dryer. The book was worth every penny that I spent for its purchase.

Easy Repair Guide
I have a dryer that I bought used 30 years ago.It had started making a noise that sounded like it was tumbling large rocks.With this book and about $40 worth of parts, it's running like new.The book detailed every step.I never could have gotten the dryer apart without it.

I was able to find a copy of doug's video
"Clothes dryer repair under $40"
and using both his book and video I was able to
go to sears to buy replacement parts,
take apart my dryer,
and fix the problem.
I have no prior experience in fixing this kind of stuff.
Honestly, I don't know if I could have done it easily without
BOTH his book AND video. Unfortunately, amazon doesn't carry the video.
But I would still HIGHLY recommend this book.

Cheap and Easy! GE/Hotpoint Washer Repair
The book leaves out electrical theories already found in other books but clearly and directly touches on basics - the "need to knows" to get the job done. The book is specific to a brand and model. So, all otherthings found in other makes and not applicable to this brand/model are leftout.This saves money and paper and time reading the manual.

The washeroperation functions are clearly explained and down-to-earth. Followed withtypes of problems that could arise. After that, one can reference themodel/type of machine, the problem then possible causes and solutions.

The book takes a reasonable recommendation whether to repair, or to makea major replacement or just buying a replacement washer if the job isbeyond the abilities of the average do-it-yourselfer or ifexpensivespecialize tools are needed and not deemed cost effective anymore. Ofcourse, the do-it-yourselfer makes the final decision whether to repair orreplace based on cost, time, convenience, pride in making things workand/or other factors. The book is filled with practical tips with and"s" - things that you learn by being creative with what'savailable at hand when trying to fix things.

If you want to save lots ofmoney with your washer problems, this book is a good start and a goodinvestment.

Good News for the Average Homeowner
This book is for the person that simply wants to understand the basic common sense of household appliances.In reading the book I felt as though my father was sitting next to me advising me as to what to do next.The recipe for cleaning the dishwasher and the insights about keeping the fridge running are worth the price of the book (and there's a whole lot more besides that in the book)!If you are like me and not too knowledgable about home appliances then I highly recommend this book.It will be one that will be open often.

I cannot believe the other negative reviews.This book was written for people like me. I didn't have a whole lot of knowledge of how things worked around the house growing up and this book is like having my father next to me advising me on what to do next.There is a lot of common sense things in this book that will assist the common person in the house about how to fix the little things that can cost so much.I needed it.If you are a do-it-youself person and already have a lot of knowledge concerning household products then this may not be the one for you.
