4-0 out of 5 stars workbook format
Although well organized and helpful, I think it would have beenbetter for me to consult some books that have more in depth info re the native plants. There are not as many pictures as I would have liked.Once one has a better understanding of the plants, this would bevery good as a workbook for planning a native garden. It is good in describig the different habitats.

4-0 out of 5 stars This book is for Florida native landscape dummies
This book helps you find out which plant community you probably have in your area, and then tells you how to redesign your landscape with that plant community in mind. It gives lists of plants for your particular plantcommunity, too.

I can envision a second edition of this book with a mapof Florida that shows where the different plant communities are, whichnurseries in your area carry those native plants that are listed, and otherfeatures. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Detailed instructions, organized by climate types.
This book includes several chapters which cover basic principles and then applies those principles in detail to four prototype climates. It is easily understood, but also includes sun angle calculations and shading diagrams for those who want to work out exact planting locations and plant forms. The last section of the book deals with drought tolerant and sustainable planting. It is readable, useful and well illustrated.

5-0 out of 5 stars for the eco-minded landscaper
Ever notice how some spots in the woods are warmer or colder than others. This book shows you how you can modify one's own microclimate (to make your property more comfortable). It is organized by region, with appropriatestrategies and recommended planting. It is also the most comprehensiveguide to environmental landscaping (using native plants, composting, natural lawn care, xeriscaping [low water-use] etc.). I've recommended itto many of my friends and given copies as gifts. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Inspirational Terracing
I WOULD LOVE TO REVIEW THIS BOOK IF YOU EVER SEND IT TO ME!! YOU SOLICITED ME FOR THIS BOOK AND THEN COULD NOT PROVIDE IT....I AM STILL WAITING!!!AS OF TODAY IT HAS BEEN 1 MONTH SINCE I ORDERED THIS BOOK!

2-0 out of 5 stars This is "just an OK" book
This book is small and "just ok" for do-it-yourselfers. The book has lots of photos that pretty much all look the same. Two pages contain a list of tools needed and a photo of the three types of landscape blocks used, then you are on your own. Basically with some landscape blocks, some concrete adhesive, and a level, you can do it without this book. I gleaned the book in about a half-hour. Once you have read those two pages on what to use, you won't be needing this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book shows how to turn an ugly slope into a beautiful garden!
I was also blessed to meet the author of this book at a home improvement show and see photographs of his work.I also purchased his book, which included more photographs of his work and landscaping/terracing ideas.I reviewed the pictures over and over again, imagining how my backyard would look. Then, I was again blessed to have Paul and Ryan come to my home and transform my ugly slope into a beautiful garden and sanctuary.Every day since it has been built, I can't wait to get up in the morning, look out the window, and see our masterpiece. Now, I love spending time in my backyard.I would highly recommend not only Paul's book, but his services as a landscaper.

2-0 out of 5 stars A singular vision
Mr. Nordmark likes the precast concrete block you can get at your local home store. He also likes the kind of design you see on the cover and sticks to his theme throughout. If you think you might like to see a variety of materials and layouts, you should get another book.I see lots of good reviews here, but found the designs to all look very similar, and the materials to be, well, concrete block. Also, the photos, while plentiful, are washed out, sometimes blurry, and more dated-looking than the 2001 publishing date would suggest.

5-0 out of 5 stars artist cove
I was blessed to find this artist at a home improvement show where he had hundreds of photos of his work.I bought this book and read his ideas and feelings about landscaping and was touched by the love he has for nature and his creativity while sculpting and molding his work which he shares in his book.I was again blessed to hire Paul and his crew to come to my home and create a sanctuary in my back yard.I love to come home after a long day and spend peaceful recooperation time there. I would highly recommend not only his book, but his services as a creative landscaper. The peace and tranquility he will create for you will be a source of love and inspiration forever. My thanks to you Paul.Sincerely, Artist Cove ... Read more
