5-0 out of 5 stars Loving it!
I bought this book after reading some of the reviews, which I am enjoying a lot.It has a great amount of recipes and ideas. Also bought a set that has all of the oils for it (Basic Care Aromatherapy Kit by Edens Garden)When I looked at buying individually, it was a lot more money. Not only is this a great deal, the oils are super high quality.I am enjoying both and a great combo to buy together!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Information
This book has a variety of information - from making skin care products to healing. It is very thorough. I, personally, would have liked something extremely in-depth but this fits the bill for most things.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I've read some of the bad reviews but I think that this book, like any other book, is just an opener to the great uses of essential oils. Many complaints are due to the fact that many readers did not take the time to further research exactly what they needed and just expected this book to provide answers to thier varied problems.Personally, I have found this book to be of great help for myself, my customers, family and friends. There is a great receipe for in-grown hairs, herbal teas and preventative measures for acne.NO this is not an answer all book but it has been useful to my business. The herb salve that I now make has gotten rave reviews.I not only used this book as a reference, but I also did further research to ensure that the information was valid.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Complete Boof of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy
A book buff by nature, I send many of the books I aquire to the local used book store for resell.Occasionally there comes along a book that becomes and invaluable treasure in my collection. This is one such a book. The easy to understand format of the scientific whys behind the art and science of Aromatherapy is exactly what I was looking for to ground this subject for me.I love that the author narrows the focus to a reduced list of key essential oils (as opposed to the 300 known oils) along with the many uses of those oils. ... This was an informative book to help me understand some of the essential oils available.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
I'm new to aromatherapy, so I'm glad I got this book. It's simple, yet very informative.I'm using it almost everyday. The author even goes into how to blend certain oils for a synergestic effect.I wish there were more recipes in the book. The other thing is that the print can be a little hard to read because of the placement of background pictures, but overall, still a really good book to have.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice reference!
I really like this book, especially the long entries.Wish all the references were long ones.Informative, historical, practical.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Book with lots of Information
This has been my ' go to ' book for essential oils. It is very informative. It tells about the oils, gives a history of uses and lets you know if they are safe for pregnant women and children. It also tells you the strength the oils should be in, for example a 1% dilution, etc. I have several other books, but this is the one I am always reaching for.

4-0 out of 5 stars Useful Essential Oil Reference Book
This book is a generally useful reference guide, easy to follow overall but occasionally a bit technical. Not as fully packed with information or even a thorough discussion of readily available oils as some other guides but the main oils are pretty well covered.I don't like the softcover and would prefer a hardcover edition. Formulas will not be discussed in this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Detail on Aromatherapy
This book provided a great amount of detail on the chemistry, uses and recipes of essential oils.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very, very informative
In my opinion, anyone who wants to mix their own essential oils (rather than buy pre-mixed oils or follow proven recipes) needs to read "Advanced Aromatherapy" in order to safely do so. The book explains the science behind why the essential oils work the way they do and provides the results of scientific studies that show which oils are most effective at doing certain actions.

This book helps the reader to understand: why various essential oils act on the human body the way they do. Why some essential oils, when combined, are more powerful than when used alone and how to select oils to create this effect. Why different chemotypes of the same essential oil can have different effects. Which oils are safe to use daily and long term and which should be limited in amount used, duration used, or how they are administered. Which oils are safe to take orally or to use on sensitive skin like mucus membranes. Which medical conditions essential oils are very successful at treating and which conditions are less so or which require long-term use to create improvement. And much more.

The book also contains a section covering various medical conditions (from the 'flu to bruises and scrapes) and gives recipes for which oils to use to treat these conditions and how to most effectively administer the oils.

I found the book easy to read and understand, and I refer back to it frequently. Readers with little science education might be a little overwhelmed at times, though. Overall, I'd highly recommend this book to those interested in aromatherapy, especially those interested in the medical uses of essential oils.

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful Resource
The information in this book is truly helpful. As someone who has been looking for holistic remedies for myself, it suddenly occurred to me, "wouldn't I want the same for my animals?" Absolutely! Immediately I began looking for resources. "Holistic Aromatherapy for Animals" gave me many tips and encouragement. When it came to recommendations for purchasing essential oils, however, I disagree with the author's opinion of not using companies that use a multi-level or networking format to purchase the oils. Some of the best oils on the planet are available this way. I personally use these oils on myself and my animals and would trust nothing else. Please don't throw out the "baby with the bathwater" in looking for quality essential oils.

5-0 out of 5 stars Holistic Aroma Therapy for Animals
This book is well written, easy to comprehend and provides detailed information. The reading is enjoyable and very educational. I particularly appreciate the care taken to describe what makes high quality products, and why and how so many product are not truly pure or of the highest quality. I also appreciated the many excellent references and the case studies that were sited.

The information is science based. Cautions for use are emphasized and described for different species. The descriptions of individual essential oils and hydrosols are excellent. There are many recipes for specific problems. This a book that I highly recommend to anyone interested in the subject regardless of their level of expertise.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome informative book
I found this book to be well written with pertinent information. It has a great review of essential oils as well as hydrosols SAFE for pets. Great for anyone looking to formulate more healthful remedies for their dog or cat. Great selection of recipies. What was a bit disappointing is a lot of the resources no longer exist. Doing a search brought up tons of locals so I would say this is a definite ADD to your Library.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very good reference for a serious crafter
I wasn't impressed with this book at first, but I found myself referring to it again and again. After renewing it from the library for the 3rd time, I bought my own copy.I am serious about making my own products, and Planet Soap is my company.I make soap, of course. Now I am getting into lip balm and lotions. My focus in this review is on the Creams and Lotions part of the book.I already had a lot of the ingredients on hand, and found the recipes easy to follow, at least the more basic ones.A digital scale is necessary here.

Some of the recipes call for a daunting number of ingredients. In that regard I would say that this book offers good guidelines, and not every recipe has to have every single ingredient. We are talking about lotion here, not radioactive elements. There is a good bit of flexibility. There are parts that explain the benefits of each base oil and essential oil, so feel free to create based on your needs.

I don't know that I would recommend this book to someone making their first batch of beauty product. There are plenty of free, simple recipes online. Some initial investment in supplies will be necessary for, say, coconut oil, lavender essential oil, and other things not found at the grocery store. If you want to make lotion from shortening and other grocery store ingredients, this book is not for you.On the other hand, the author is seriously committed to beautiful products and here scent blends are intriguing.I'm sold.

1-0 out of 5 stars Book arrived with pages ripped out
This looked like a great book except all of the resource pages were ripped out. I was very disappointed.

3-0 out of 5 stars nice, but no new information for me
I'm not a novice in making homemade creams. I had no problems with finding ingredients, but the recipes are too easy for me. And I don't like using borax in home cosmetics. Donna Maria uses it in many recipes.
But I liked wery much the section with several balm bars recipes. The information on the other handmade cosmetics makers throughout the book was also very useful and interesting.

2-0 out of 5 stars Very difficult to get ingredients
I got this book and 'Earthly Bodies & Heavenly Hair' for Christmas and I have to say I haven't used this book once. Nearly everything I needed for recipes in 'Earthly bodies' I got from the local Whole foods but with this book I stopped at the first recipes and couldn't find one thing. I'm sure it would result in nice lotions and creams but without the ingredients I will never know. Kind of sad but at least I got the other book, which I love and really recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Book!
This book is outstanding! Not only does it offer a ton of recipes for every type of cream, lotion, toner and scrub your could want, but it also gives a ton of information about the products used in them. 5-0 out of 5 stars good book so far
I haven't read all the way through it, but it seems moderately comprehensive. It's not a text book but it's not a totally generalized beginners book, either.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for.
As a beginner to aromatherapy I found that this book was an excellent starter book that doesn't over simplify techniques, but is still easy to use and enables you to understand and apply the methods. The book is layed out very well. Each oil is described thoroughly by origin, family, extraction, medicinal action, cosmetic/skin use, and emotional attributes. The reader will learn the many different uses of aromatherapy. The book also reviews safe use of aromatherapy. I highly recommend this well written book for anyone starting to use aromatherapy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Know Your Aromas

This book is a treasure chest of information on fine oils.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good starter book
This book gave suggestions for using both herbs and essential oils in health and beauty applications. It covered the use of herbs and essential oils in massage, in cooking, and in making perfume and beauty products like lip balm, lotions, daily skin care, shampoos, and so on. They gave enough scientific and detailed information that a person could safely and competently make their own mixes to achieve a desired effect. In the back, they also included quick-reference charts covering what essential oil was good for what. Overall, it covered a wide variety of information in good depth.

The authors kept to a fairly scientific approach to essential oils. Some books view essential oils in a mystical way, like they are a magical source of healing or courage/love/etc. potions. In my view, essential oils are simply naturally-derived medicines, and very effective ones at that, so I appreciated how they approached essential oils.

My one "complaint" is that the section detailing what each essential oil could do listed so many things for each oil that I couldn't believe they all did practically everything (at least, that's what it looked like on first reading). I wanted to know what each oil really did do, not all the uses people have ever used it for. So I bought "Advanced Aromatherapy" Kurt Schnaubelt, which clearly explains a number of scientific studies on what various essential oils do. That's the book I primarily refer to now, and it's always been correct.

So, if you're interested in learning more about essential oils, this is a great starter book. I'd also recommend "Advanced Aromatherapy" Kurt Schnaubelt.

This book is my favorite of the three I bought. It's exactly what the title implies: aromatherapy recipes.Loved it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Quick Reference Guide
I have just received my book and it's exactly what I was after.I have many books on aromatherapy but none give a quick formula reference guide simply laid out as this one does.It is certainly a recipe book on blends, with not much other information, but that was what I was after.Previously, I would have to pore over the books I have or the notes I have compiled to find a simple blend.Thumbs up from me.No one book is going to give you all the information you may be after. For me, you do need to have a number of books to cover all the queries you may have.Aromatherapy is a big subject!!If your after a great guide on Essential Oils and their properties then buy The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Essential Oils by Julia Lawless as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars 500 formulas for Aromatherapy
This is a straight forward recipe book.No thrills no frills, so if you are looking for an educational book about oils this is NOT FOR YOU because this is not what this is.It works for me because I do need books on blends for my business.I whipped up a few one Sunday before Church for a drawing on a basket of salts (money went to missions) and I did a wake me up bath salt, and a kiss me good night bath salt and everyone loved them, even the men :)So we got pleanty of people involved in the drawing for the basket and made more money on it than I would of charged to sell the basket in my store. It does categorized the oil blends by their action though.Like energizing, etc, so you can go from there, and it tells you what to use the blends for.But it does not do like a desk reference or something where it tells you the action of the oil on the bodies systems. There is none of that.If that is your quest. You may want too look into something concerning Herbalology. There is alot of discussion in this area that tells you what plants do to which part of the body etc.You would just have to convert in your mind that you are dealing with that plants oil, and it's action would be intensified in that area of the body possibly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Basic Recipes
If you're looking for a book of recipes for specific uses and remedies, this is the book for you. It will not teach you about essential oils or provide details about each recipe. It is a basic book of formulas for those who are familiar with the use of oils or already possess an essentail oils reference book. The book provides easy to assemble recipes in an easy to understand format. Great variety of formulas for every need.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy to follow format
The formulas in this book are presented in a straight-forward manner and are grouped according to type (e.g., foot baths, body powders, insect repellents, etc.).This is a great beginners book but doesn't exlain the hows and whys of any particular oil or group of oils.Nonetheless, it's a good little "cook book" of basic formulas. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Stick to the subject!!!
The majority of this book does not focus on aromatherapy. Some history is discussed, and other than that, most of the book is spent discussing the problems with the current medical paradigm.I completely agree with him, however, I purchased a book titled "Medical Aromatherapy" not "The Current Medical Paradigm Sucks."Discussion of the essential oils does not begin until Chapter 12.Hello!!There are only 13 chapters in the book. The last two chapters of the book were great, but I really don't recommend this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Reference
This book was recommended to me by one of my students in our essential oils classes. The organization of the material and the information are excellent for someone searching for information on essential oils and what they are for.

5-0 out of 5 stars Teaches you so much
This book is not for the folks who want to just make Blends.
Its for people who want to know the science behind the oils. What groups each oil belongs in. Which is something everyone must know when blending. You need to know what oils to use if you do not have a certain oil on hand. Plus Kurt has the science down. Reading this book all the way thru will teach you how to use the oils.
So many books out there on blends, but what are you blending?
Kurts book called Advance Aromatherapy is wonderful to.I love both books and have learn so MUCH more then I ever could from other books.
I have learned how to deal with viruses , in depth.
If you are serious about this subject, both of Kurts books are a MUST HAVE.

3-0 out of 5 stars Scientific Aromatherapy
This book continues from where a lot of books on aromatherapy left out. For those of us who are curious about how essential oils actually work, this book provides all the scientific principles. Unlike a lot of other books which merely tell us what the function of the oils are, this book not only goes in depth into the mechanics of aromatherapy, it also provides some revolutionary ideas on the use of essential oils. For practitioners with a science background, this book provides plenty of convincing and credible reasons for the use of aromatherapy in the treatment of various ailments.

However, I'm disappointed with the first half of the book which is overly "political" and has definitely gone overboard in its attack of the medical profession. Skip all that and start from the middle of the book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Medical Aromatherapy
Compared to innumerable other excellent books on the subject aromatherapy, Schnaubelt's book comes up distinctly short on helpful data. For the book to be truly helpful, one must be experienced in the use of oils, and if experienced, the book is all-bar-useless given the dearth of detailed information. It's a snapshot only and, therefore, not useful as a book of reference. Not recommended I'm afraid. ... Product Description
Magical Aromatherapy by Scott Cunningham combines the modern science of aromatherapy with the ancient science of magical perfumery. Together they make a powerful system that can improve your life and bring you what you want. Already, over 170,000 people have found out how useful this book can be. You can, too!
In these pages you'll discover how to use aromas from fresh and dried herbs and essential oils to make changes in your life. You can use them to bring you love, peace, protection, psychic awareness, happiness, joy, and more.
You'll discover that the dried seeds of celery can be used to enhance psychic awareness or bring restful sleep. The fresh flowers of gardenia can be used for peace, love, and spirituality. Honeysuckle can be used for weight loss and prosperity. This book includes full instructions on how to use these three and ninety-seven more aromatics!
If you do magical rituals, you'll also be thankful for information such as the ruling planet and element for each of the herbs. Also given are aromas of the seasons, lunar cycles, days of the week, and zodiacal signs. You'll also learn how to make, store, and use essential oils. Cunningham also includes addresses of essential oil distributors; fresh and dried plant distributors; and aromatherapy organizations and publications. There's even a glossary and a great annotated bibliography, as well as a history of magical perfumery.
Even if you've never done any magic in your life, you can use this book. For example, to attract love, "visualize yourself freely giving and receiving it as you smell the crushed fruits" of the caraway. You can repeat this several times a day, especially if you are worrying about your current relationship.
And if you've been doing rituals for a long time, you will find this book to be invaluable. The correspondences and information will allow you to use aromatics to enhance any of your rituals. This is truly a book anyone can use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellence.
I'm assuming you've read Cunningham's Encyclopedia of magical herbs, and Incense, Oils & Brews.

With those awesome books, he takes it a step further with aromatherapy. It's a great book and gets more into detail on the oils themselves than in the aforementioned I/O/B book.

It's small (ie: short & 1/2" thick), it's an easy read, packed full of great info, and it's cheap! It's great. :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic on Medical Aromatherapy
Here is one book that just about everyone who writes on Medical Aromatherapy refers to.The book is written by a medical doctor and the initial chapter (about 50 pages) of the book deal with drawbacks of modern medication. One of the chief drawbacks mentioned is that as the body becomes used to certain medication it requires more and more of it to produce therapeutic effect; meanwhile as more medications are added, there is a greater chance of undesirable side-effects.He also mentions instances where the use of essential oils has given better and faster results, as well as times when they were useful because nothing else was available (as in some places during war times).

The rest of the books deals with the properties, as well as internal and external uses of about 40 popular essential oils.Among different forms of application, there are also traditional recipes where particular flowers, herbs or spices have been used in cooking, in creation of wines and liquers, vinegars, elixirs, lozenges and for cleaning and desinfecting premises.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well documented classic
The previous reviewer who said this book was just a compilation of anecdotes and imagination didn't read carefully.Dr. Valnet includes several medical case studies as well as detailed anecdotes. The medical establishment is notorious for discounting "common wisdom" when it comes to herbals, and yet this information has been passed on for generations. Dr. Valnet, as a medical doctor, includes the uses as well as some warnings. His writing is sometimes difficult to understand, as he uses a lot of medical terminology, some of which is European. But the glossary in the back helps tremendously.I'm just beginning on my herbal education road, and I chose this book because so many other herbals refer to it.It's challenging getting through the introduction and the whys/wherefores.But once the foundation information is established, the rest goes quickly and easily.Contains listings by herb as well as by ailment, making it easy to study either a single herb or try different approaches for a single ailment.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Practice of Aromatherapy : A Classic Compendium of Plant Medicines and Their Healing Properties
What can I say - It's a must have if you are at all serious about understanding Aromatherapy and the philosophy behind it.

Valnet is and has been a well referenced Author and holds a special section on our clinic's bookshelf. Need I say more?

2-0 out of 5 stars Interesting, but not Convincing
This seems to be a typical old-fashioned herbal, only with emphasis on essential oils and aromatics rather than simply herbs. In other words, lots of untested claims. I assume they're untested, as the author provides little evidence for his assertions, save a very few anecdotal stories. I have no problem with anecdotal evidence, but I'd like rather more of it if I'm to be reassured a treatment is worth trying.

I think I myself could write a book like this--I have a good imagination, and it looks as though that may be all that's required. I gave it two stars because I found it mildly entertaining. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Aromatherapy for the Healthy Child
The purchase of this book completed my Valerie Ann Worwood collection.I absolutely love her books and this one did not disappoint.I have the children section in her "The Complete Book of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy" book dog eared, highlighted and worn out.I knew I needed more info. on Ess. oils and children so I finally got around to ordering this book.I love it!I have already used multiple blends on my own children and done some up for my siblings and clients to use on their children. This book just makes it so easy to use aromatherapy and I don't have to worry about the strength on my children because she takes such care in making the dillutions clear in each recipe. This is a great book and I highly suggest it to anyone looking at aromatherapy to help with raising their little ones.It has already helped my boys with ear infections, owies, growing pains, sunburn, & bug bites.I also made up a blend using one of her caring massage blends with a couple other oils but instead of for massage I put it in a spray bottle w/ distilled water and gave it to a friend of mine for her son to use as a "Monster Spray" to help him stay in his bed at night and so far...so good!!I already had most of the oils in her Basic Care Kit so it wasn't hard or expensive to complete and one of the first things I did was make up all of her First Aid Cabinet recipes, they are soooo easy so don't be afraid to make them, it will be well worth your while! So again I LOVE this book and highly suggest it to anyone interested in aromatherapy as an aid to raising Healthy Children!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Circumcsion??? As natural??? I don't think so lady!
This book covers a lot of information, however, I was surprised by the author's ignorance and cold-hearted lack of compassion towards male circumcision. While she acknowledges the horror of female circ, she fails to acknowledge the trauma experienced of baby boys. Only recently has anesthesia been administered during circumcisions. Also, anesthesia is not effective since there are a lot of erogenous nerve endings in the male foreskin. And it does nothing to help post operative pain which is excruciating. The foreskin is there to protect the baby from exposure to both feces and ammonia in urine. Circumcision puts a baby at risk for developing infections such as meatus ulcers and meatal stenosis (infections that are unheard of among intact babies). She also insists that boys who are not cut are at risk of urinary tract infections. This is not true. UTIs are more common among girls (3%) then boys (1%), babies who are not breast fed, and babies who are born with an problems relating to the internal urinary tract system which has nothing to do with the penis and any of it's parts. Babies outgrow these infections since their immune systems strengthens. When a girl in the USA gets a UTI we treat her with medication. The same medication used to treat girls are just as effective in treating boys. CIRCUMCISION IS NOT MEDICALLY NECESSARY!!!

Unfortunately Ms. Worwood is one of the millions of puritanical Americans who have been brain washed into believing that the foreskin is abnormal and a problem. The real problem is the denial and refusal to educate and understand the nature of foreskin. Circumcision is not a vaccine, it is not that little magical blue pill that's going to make all those dreams come true. If Ms. Worwood did her homework she would understand the sexual and protective functions of the foreskin and the NATURAL development of the penis. There is nothing natural about circumcision. Another danger is that she suggests that you pull back the foreskin to clean the penis. The penis is by nature a self-cleansing organ, like your eyes. Your eyes would not be cleaner without eye lids, a penis would not be cleaner or healthier without foreskin. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, you should NEVER forcibly retract the foreskin. The foreskin will retract on its own when the boy grows up. Many scientists from around the world have compared the development of the penis to a rose bud. If you look at a rose bud you will see that there are all kinds of buds, some small, some big, some with long petals some short, and yet you wouldn't try to pluck the petals to force it to bloom...it will bloom on its own and when it is ready. All the buds will bloom, all at their own pace, and when they bloom, you would never know which ones began their life as the frumpy looking buds and the graceful looking ones. So it is the same of the penis.

When a boy is born, his foreskin is physically attached to the head of the penis. (Only 2% of the world's male population is born with a fully retractable foreskin for reasons unknown to scientists). It is attached by a tissue, very similar to the tissue that connects your finger and toe nails to the nail bed. As the child develops, this tissue weakens until it disintegrates (like a receding hair line). When this happens that's when the boy can pull back the foreskin, glide it up and down the shaft, have fun, and expose the glans :^)...THE ONLY PERSON WHO SHOULD PULL BACK THE FORESKIN THE IS THE CHILD HIMSELF, AND ONLY WHEN HE IS READY. Forcibly pulling back the foreskin b4 it is ready can tear its connective tissue and cause infection. There is no need to pull it back. At what age does a boy retract his foreskin? There is no set age. Some boys can retract as early as 4 yrs. Some don't retract until puberty. Just like some girls start menses at 8 yrs some at 15 yrs. All are normal. If a boy is 18 yrs and still has not been able to retract, there are steroid creams available that he can apply to his penis. This has shown to be very effective. As mentioned earlier, NO NEED TO CIRCUMCISE. Simply, wash the area with water (if u use soap only use vegetable based soaps, like Dr. Bronner...no chemicals). Just like the labia protects and gives the female privacy, the foreskin does the same for a boy. There is no need for a boy to walk around with his glands exposed. The glans is only supposed to be exposed during sex. As parents, you would be amazed at how easy it is to care for an intact boy and how happy he and you are to know that you kept him whole and gave him the right to experience all his penis, as nature made it.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK... GREAT TOOL
I absolutely love this book.I have both books by her and use them both and find myself refering to this one alot more.I even use it on myself and it works wonderfully. There are cures for almost everything in here... Like I said I love this book!!!I really don't need another baby/kids book because it's all here.

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful
Unlike Worwoods other book The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy: Over 600 Natural, Non-Toxic and Fragrant Recipes to Create Health - Beauty - a Safe Home Environment, the oils she suggests in this one are difficult to come by. I have used many of her suggestions for other modalities and have found them helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Blending Guide I own, and I own over 30 books
I Love this book, I use it for all memebers of my family.
Its not just for kids, each blend can be used on anyone.
I love the science of EOs, however this book doesnt offer that info on it, but does offer the BEST BLENDS I have ever used.
I know what each oil does, and even when I am sure of what oils I am going to use I find myself opening this book and each oil I have thought on my own to use because I know how great it is for a certain condition, is the oils she has mentioned to use.
Plus the ease of finding what you are need to a blend for is great. The A to Z type of format is wonderful.
As I mentioned I am aware of each oils chemical makeup and find this book to give the best oil for each conditoin.
This is a MUST HAVE. You will be so PLEASED.
Plus make sure to blend up the room disfect spray. I love this spray and use to so often.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good reference for an introduction to aromatherapy
This is my first book on aromatherapy ...found the book very useful and enlightening. Definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about essential oils...

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully detailed.
I have found the book educational on the essential oils it covers. It's definately worth the money and would buy it again.

5-0 out of 5 stars An outstanding introduction to the art
I've taught a few aromatherapy classes and this is one of the books I require them to have. It's a great introduction to the art and theory of aromatherapy.I've read in one of the reviews here that it's not a user friendly book, and if you are looking for a book of quick recipes and easy throw together projects this is not the book for you. If you are looking to understand the history of the practice and the reasons behind why things are done this is a great place to start. It goes in great depth, but never dull or dry, the reasons why certain oils are used and how to use them. Reading a book like this lets you know how to use oil from the roots up and once you know the reasons behind why it works and how things blend then you can create your own blends and not have to rely on other peoples lists. I can't recommend this book enough.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Art of Aromatherapy: The Healing and Beautifying Properties of the Essential Oils of Flowers and Herbs
This is a great book for both the beginner and practising Aromatherapist. His health of knowledge is clearly demonstrated in the discussion on essential oils - It's a must.

Tisserand is one of the foremost authorities on Aromatherapy and has published many books.

In our natural therapy college, we strongly recommend his books to all our medical aromatherapy students. It's on our Bookshelf and we use it regularly.
The lack of an in-depth index is a bit troublesome, however, after you've read the book you'll have less and less trouble finding what you want.

2-0 out of 5 stars Too difficult to research
This book may contain great information, but unless you're committed to sitting down and reading it cover to cover, this won't be your most helpful resource. This book has no index in the back, so if you want to look up aspecific topic, you've only got chapter and section headings, and then youhave to scan through pages and pages to find what you're looking for.I'vegot 4 aromatherapy books, and I barely ever crack this one open becauseit's too much work to find what I'm looking for. There are much betterbooks out there! ... THis book is excellent. It is especially good for beginners in aromatherapy. Loads of information & recipes.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful wealth of wisdom!
I was not very familiar with aromatherapy when I first read this book. Then, as I did more research, I realized that this power-packed volume contains everything that either a novice or experienced aromatherapist needs to know. From how aromatherapy works to how essentials oils are extracted, from safety and toxicity to a complete Materia Medica -- it's all here, and more! Ericksen clearly knows of what she speaks. She wisely guides the reader through the use and storage of essential oils, covering nearly every application, including aromatherapy for children, the frail or elderly, common ailments, and women's needs. There are countless recipes, a glossary, and a list of resources. You will come away from this book feeling that you know what you are doing and are ready to treat your (or your friends' and loved ones') specific conditions with confidence. Although not a big book, it is encyclopedic in its scope of information. Healing With Aromoatherapy is not a book to collect dust on your shelf -- you'll use it and refer to it endlessly. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars BEST BOOK EVER
This book is written so well. It explains Ayurveda in such a concise clear way. The first time I really understand it. I cannot put the book down. Haven't finished it yet but it has become my 'bible'! I have 2 friends who have it as well and feel the same way. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Little Book
This book was very informative both on ayurveda and it's treatment modalities as well as aromatherapy. I like that the authors gave a lot of real life experiences with the specific oils. There is also a section on rare oils and ayurvedic oils. There are many references to other resources of related material too, which are good as well. I was very pleased with the overall content.

5-0 out of 5 stars Unique and Original Presentation
Light and Bryan Miller have a unique and original view of aromatherapy. I highly recommend their work, and this book. I have studied with them in person and read this book as part of their Ayurveda Correspondence Course, which has an aromatherapy component.

This book is very empowering. The recipes and formulas are awesome, and the connection between aromatherapy and ayurveda makes a stronger case for the therapeutic aspect. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ancient Memories
Having had the opportunity to study personally with Victoria Edwards, the author of this lovely compilation of ancient wisdom concerning Aromatherapy, I am greatful for the organization of the information in herbook. In studying with Victoria I can vouch for her life-long devotion tothe study, practice and teaching of Aromatherapy but it was, at times, difficult to tell where in the forest we were in the study as we delveddeeply into the various facets of this discipline. Her book conveys theesoteric aspects of Aromatherapy while organizing it in a comprehensivemanner so that one also attains a sense of history of this importanthealing art as well as a sense of direction and orientation during yourstudy. A must on the shelf of any serious devotee of Aromatherapy yetwritten clearly and concisely providing an excellent manual for thebeginner as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars synapsis
After reading this book, I felt like I could better understand aromatherapy. It is very descriptive, and easy to follow.

5-0 out of 5 stars An essential reference tool for aromatherapists
With so many books on aromatherapy available, it'sdifficult to know what's really valuable. The authors of so many books have few medical or scientific credentials and take a highly impressionistic approach. For thisreason alone, to find a book like this written by a chemist is a raretreat. And, since this is a chemist writing in 1936, we find the source ofmuch of today's common knowledge of the discipline - from the man who madeit a discipline and coined the word 'aromatherapy'. Translator LouiseDavids and editor Robert Tisserand offer us a natural-reading translationwith the added benefit of an editor's introduction which places the book inits historical context. Tisserand points out that "as a chemistGattefosse was not a part of the natural therapy movement and he did notshare [today's] holistic, 'alternative' approach." That comes as agreat relief to those of us who want some reliable chemical basis for ourchoices of oils. Even more useful are the copious notes Tisserand providesthroughout the book, sometimes to explain terminology, more often withcomments on Gattefosse's observations in the light of today's knowledge. ...
