Product Description
A contemporary and practical guide to Mayan astrological techniques

• Discusses the logic and meaning of the 20 day-signs of the Mayan calendar

• Explains the many cycles of Mayan astrology, such as the 9-day cycle of the Night Lords and the 13-day trecena

• Contains extensive tables of Mayan astrological data, allowing readers to cast their own Mayan horoscopes

How to Practice Mayan Astrology presents a contemporary guide to one of the most sophisticated astrological systems ever developed. Like other ancient peoples, the Maya looked to the cycles of the planets as markers of time and designators of order. The predictable cycles they observed became codified in the Mayan calendar and astrological system as a way of organizing the seeming chaos of human life.

Mayan astrology is based on 20 named days that are cycled 13 times to create a 260-day calendar, the Tzolkin. The authors explain the symbolism, logic, and meaning of the 20 day-signs; how these signs reflect 260 possible personality types; and how they can be used for divination. They also explain the important role of the Four Directions and the planet Venus in one’s personality matrix and life issues. Included are extensive, easy-to-use tables of Mayan astrological data, allowing readers to determine their day-signs, to see how these signs are also influenced by the cycle of the Night Lords and the 13-day trecena, and to cast their own horoscopes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Remarkable, A Highly Useful & Enlightening Masterpiece
As a fulltime psychic astrologer for over 36 years who has studied and used Western, Chinese, Hindu, and Native American Astrology to help over fifty thousand clients from all walks of life, I find this book to be remarkable in every respect.Deep, informative, fun, easy to read, incredibly meaningful, with a terrific one hundred year ephemeris attached that will enable you to "read" all your friends and family with much insight and amazement.

Within hours of reading it, I had much greater insight into the lives of my clients than through any other single source. It makes me think that Mayan astrology is the core astrology of all astrologies, revealing the soul energies of human beings as no other system; yet, as an adjunct to all the other world systems serves as a catalyst that "leavens the whole loaf."

Suffice to say, I am now ordering every book I can on Mayan Astrology with fond anticipation. And I strongly recommend that any astrologer seeking more wisdom, or any human seeing more insight, buy and read this book immediately.

5-0 out of 5 stars New and entertaining
This book was quite an easy and fun read! It, by far, is the most accessible book I've come across on Mayan astrology and I thoroughly enjoyed putting together charts for myself and others. The authors are clearly well-versed in the subject and eager to make it understandable to all.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Book
Although this method of astrology is unusual from a Western point of view, the results are extremely accurate.

The book "Mayan Astrology" is well written, and enables even a person with limited astrology experience to develop and read a chart.Mayan astrology is like peeling an onion - many layers.

5-0 out of 5 stars How to Pratice Mayan Astrology The Tzolkin Calendar and Your Path
This book is very user friendly. After doing some birth calculations on my own I found the authors personality desriptions amazingly accurate. For anyone who has an interest in astrology, I highly recommend Mayan astrology.

1-0 out of 5 stars My apologies for my error in judgment.
My further studies of the "Mayan Calendar" confirm MY ERROR. And I apologize to Mr. Scofield for my previous comments which were based on sound mathematics; but resulted in errors of interpretation of my findings. There ARE differiencs of interpretation between Señor Arguelles and Dr. Calleman. This book seems to accurately reflect research from a perspective similar to Dr. Carl Calleman. I have attempted to change my rating of this book without success; but now believe it warrants (at least) 4 stars. [10/30/2008] ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Positive Reference Book on Medical Astrology
As a trainee astrologer, I have long resisted reading anything about medical astrology in case it scared me too much! This is a great first book to read on the subject and makes you re-think your views on health and ill-health. It is a very readable, comprehensive reference book for someone with some prior knowledge of the basics of astrology, for example the planets, houses and aspects as well as the signs of the zodiac. The reference material is superb and I found that the correspondences between my medical history and the main features of my birth chart were spookily accurate.
The author describes the main function of medical astrology as the identification of the underlying astro-dynamic patterns that link mind and body, and the tackling of the inherent issues of which the outer symptoms are a physical manifestation.
There is a fascinating section on Decumbiture Charts, a traditional method of diagnosis & therapy based on the time a person takes to their bed with an illness. Also, the book contains much practical guidance on therapy sessions using medical astrology. There is no attempt to replace the medical team but rather to complement them. The author describes how the process works - changing the relationship between ourselves and our more difficult features through awareness and what she describes as an "upgrading" - transforming these into new more positive ways of expression that bring healing.
The astrological correspondences of illnesses and remedies including herbs, plus a full bibliography of further reading ensure that this will be a much used reference book.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME
I knew this book was going to be something special, but I was overwhelmed with how special this book is. It is detailed, thorough, filled with information every healer should know (traditional and modern healers). This book will become one of my most prized reference book and I will be purchasing more as gifts for just about everyone I know.

Product Description
This first volume comprehensively charts Western astrology from 30,000 BCE up to the 17th century, with particular focus on its magical, political and apocalyptic movements and use in everyday life throughout history. This is the first comprehensive examination of astrology's origins and examines the foundations of a major feature of popular culture in the contemporary west, one which has its origins in the ancient world. Campion explores the relationship between astrology and religion, magic and science, and explores its use in politics and the arts in a fascinating and readable fashion. The book's scope and depth is greater than any other comparable text. Beginning with theories of the origins of religion in sun-worship, it spans the period between the first Paleolithic lunar counters around 30,000BC and the end of the classical world and rise of Christianity. Campion challenges the idea that astrology was invented by the Greeks, and asks whether its origins lie in Near-Eastern religion, or whether it can be considered a decadent Eastern import to the west.He considers the evidence for reverence for the stars in Neolithic culture, Mesopotamian astral divination, Egyptian stellar religion, and examines attitudes to astrology and celestial prophecy in the Bible. He considers such artifacts as the mysterious, fifteen-thousand year-old "Venus of Lauselle", the reasons for the orientation of the pyramids, the latest theories on Stonehenge as a sacred observatory, Greek theories of the ascent of the soul to the stars and the Roman emperor Nero's use of astrology to persecute his rivals. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The best history of ancient astrology out there
Campion's history of ancient astrology does what other such histories do not:it places astrology in the context of the societies in which it developed. So Campion's book describes the religious practices and beliefs of ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome and the British Isles and shows why and how they spawned astrology. This method is far preferable to that used by other histories, which often treat astrology as a subject unto itself without fully explaining its connection to the societies that gave it birth.Campion relies on both primary and secondary sources -- the bibiliography is staggering in its size and scope -- as well as on his own insights.Highly readable for a work of this type (which can easily suffer from dryness), comprehensive and thorough, The Dawn of Astrology is simply the best treatment of its subject I have yet encountered.Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars More than just a good book
The first reviewer of this book is perfectly correct in giving this book a five star-rating and calling it a must read. But she doesnt go far enough! This book, and its sequel, Volume Two, are masterpieces of good history and good writing.I review both books under Volume Two but feel compelled to repeat my analysis here as well, and I am not even an astrologer, nor actually believe in it with any certainty.Having completed Volume One, and now, finally, Volume Two after an entire summer of reading, I stand in awe at this man's ability to wade through an ocean of conflicting and confusing history, involving philosophy, religion and social upheavals, and somehow never lose cite of his central thesis--the ebb and flow of astrological beliefs. And all in very readable prose, carefully documented, and largely unbiased. Of course, with such a broad overview, and with so many influences and trends to dissect and analyze, there is no doubt that experts in individual fields may quibble about certain points and generalizations. After all, this is controversial material concerning a movement embraced by some, but reviled by many powerful forces. But that doesn't detract from the value of this encyclopedic work. Whether you believe in Astrology or not, noone can deny that it has played a major role in the intellectual and psychological life of Man since the beginning of time, and a respectful interest in its development is certainly warranted by anyone, whether academic or not. And noone does this with such clarity and insightful prose through the jungle of intellectual ideas than Campion, in two massive volumes of scholarship. I should know...I am a college writing teacher, and can professionally declare that this is great writing, not just great scholarship.I only regret that having read the complete work through once, I will probably have to do it several times over again, before I retain even a tiny portion of the information presented in these dense but fascinating texts.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Mythological Journey
This book is a great reference for the Gods and Goddesses of the ages. It will take you not only on a mythological journey, but also a journey of self discovery. As some books on mythology can be heavy and exhausting to read, this book breathes some fresh air and gives instant clearity adout understanding gods and goddesses. Those who have done some inner work themselves will feel like they know these astrological archetypes quiet well. I love the way there is reference to some tarot symbolism aswell. This book is a must for a beginner studing astrology!

5-0 out of 5 stars Arrived as Promised
I received Mythic Astrology: Internalizing the Planetary Powers about a week after I ordered. The book arrived and was in very good condition, as stated. At first I thought I had received the wrong book because the title and cover was slightly different than my classmates books, but it was a newer version -- all content was the same.I'm satisfied with my purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars An antidote for more shallow interpretations
This book is a perfect antidote to overly simplistic, "cookie-cutter", astrology books. This is because it delves into the deep mythological symbolism behind the planets and signs. It is an excellent reference for fleshing-out a written horoscope with more than the basics. This isn't a book that is going to teach you how to cast a horoscope, however, it will help you to interpret a horoscope in terms of the deep archetypical patterns and currents for which the stars and planets are merely visible markers.

Indeed, this book goes beyond providing mere historical details and trivia, it is a starting place for deep meditation on the underlieing meaning in a chart.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mythic Astrology
This is an excellent book that ties in syncretically, astrology, the planets, the Gods and Goddesses for whom the planets are named and many of the myths relating to them and indiviual signs. In short, it is one of the few concise, deep accounts of archetypal astrology that I have read. The authors also pull a lot from depth psychology and the work of Carl Jung.It is an absolute MUST for any serious student of Astrology! You don't have to go out and buy a big book on Hellenic Mythology, just keep this and within it is all you need to know!

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect tool for understanding astrology
If you have any experience or knowledge with mythology, the perfect starting place for astrology is this book.
Though it is OOP you may find a used copy running around, and I would advise grabbing it up.
The authors explain the mythological parallels of each sign and planet and off a unique manner for interpretting astrological placements based upon each sign.
Astrology didn't begin with mythology but the names given to planetary bodies did.And their relevancy to modern astrology is key in education. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best
This is a must-have book for anyone studying horary astrology. I purchased three books and they all arrived in the same perfect package and in fantastic condition.

4-0 out of 5 stars A "Basics Instruction Guide" in Horary Astrology
Horary Astrology Plain & Simple : Fast & Accurate Answers to Real World Questions I was eager to read a book on this type of astrology.I wasn't sure if I should have bought a Willima Lilly's Christian Astrology Books, or Anthony Lewis. After reading it, I'm glad that I bought it.

Even though I wrote that it is a "basics" book.I would say that the reader needs to have some knowledge of astrology. For example, it taught me about "Via Combust."I didn't have a very good foundation of knowledge concermomg the matter. It has helpful charts and Mr. Lewis explains them very well.

I cannot see as to how anyone would be disappointed in the book.A great instruction tool and yes, should be in every astrologer's library.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but some serious flaws
This is a very comprehensive and detailed work on horary astrology and certainly will demand and mostly reward a lot of study. It covers almost everything about horary, but is confusing and does not leave you feeling confident that horary is going to work. The confusion is because the author does not resolve the problems of using the traditional method with modern planets and aspects, and instead jumbles it all together, sometimes using one, sometimes the other, and suggesting that you need to find your own way. This suggestion does not suit this precise branch of astrology, and besides, horary works best when done the original way as experience usually shows. There are also numerous technical errors and contradictions and too many innovations - horary is demanding enough without having to invent extra complications. But the book is amazingly comprehensive and will still give you a lot of real and valuable information.

In summary, this book will serve if you can't get hold of the far superior Horary Textbook by John Frawley, and of course a study of Lilly's Christian Astrology will be challenging but pay off much more handsome dividends now that it is readily avialable.

5-0 out of 5 stars great 'how to' book
this is a great way to learn horary - it's a way to use astrology like throwing the I Ching. and if you are an astrologer and have that fantastic program Solar Fire, it's easy as pie. i've read a few horary books, but like this one the best

5-0 out of 5 stars Not so plain and simple, but still an excelent title.
Horary Plain and Simple is not all that plain simple once you start reading the book. It's a bit confusing trying to comprehend what the author is talking about when you have not yet covered a topic that is being brought up. The author discusses things such as Trines, Squares, Orbs, and conjuctions before even explaining what these things are and what they mean when interpreting a chart. While I was already familiar with most of these terms the beginner astrologer might not grasp these concepts. However everything is explained in the chapter after the one in which they are introduced. While this may seem a little unorthodox it really does work quite well.
Another thing that is not mentioned until you start reading the book is that this book covers both modern and traditional (Classical) Horary Astrology. It does use the three outer planets in the interpretations, however if you are like me; a student of William Lilly (or other Traditional Astrologer) it is really not hard to find a modern list of views pertaining to the traditional 7 planets and what interpretations can be used for modern living. Many of Lilly's charts are used in this title and he is referred to many times throughout as well as others such as Ptolemy. The author also includes many of his own charts from the past to add that modern feel. This books value far out weights the considerably miner issues. It is definitely something I will refer back to for many years to come.

I do suggest at least understanding of the basics of astrology. The very basics at least. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic work on sacred science
Titus Burckhardt's 'Mystical Astrology According to Ibn'Arabi' is a seminal work on 'sacred science' - which, in sharp contrast to modern 'profane' science, ties knowledge to a higher reality. The subject matter is the astrological doctrine of Sufi master Muhyiddin Ibn 'Arabi.

Be warned that despite its brevity, this slim volume is a dense and difficult work. Before attempting to tackle it, it would be a good idea to familiarize yourself with the traditional worldview that Burckhardt takes as a given. Given the crass nature of contemporary astrology, people tend to conceive astrology as saying that this-or-that star or planet 'causes' events 'down here.' Since it is difficult for most of us to honestly believe that the planet Mars is affecting our moods, most of us naturally regard astrology as superstitious nonsense. However, those who have not yet grasped the significance of the difference between the modern worldview and the traditional worldview of antiquity (especially the ideas of cyclical time) will be at a loss when attempting to grasp the significance that astrology had to ancient peoples.

Burckhardt wrote in his essay 'Traditional Cosmology and the Modern World' (found in _Mirror of the Intellect_) that 'the man of antiquity, who pictured the earth as an island surrounded by the primordial ocean and covered by the dome of heaven, and the medieval man, who saw the heavens as concentric spheres extending from the earth to the limitless sphere of the Divine Spirit, were no doubt mistaken regarding the true disposition and proportions of the sensible universe. On the other hand, they were fully conscious of the fact - infinitely more important - that this corporeal world is not the whole of reality, and that it is as if surrounded and pervaded by a reality, both greater and more subtle, that in its turn is contained in the Spirit, and they knew, indirectly or directly, that the world in all its extension disappears in the face of the Infinite.'

Traditional man was concerned with a higher spiritual reality, which gives meaning to the notion that the Earth is the center of the universe. '...given that the human being occupies a central position in the cosmic atmosphere which surrounds him, and that he has a right to consider this position, since he is obliged to make of it as a starting point for his spiritual realization, as he is situated on the axis itself which unites the poles of the universe, passing from the lowest centre of 'material' gravity up to the supreme centre of 'First Intellect'. (p. 43)

To traditional man, the universe was not just a collection of molecules, but rather material evidence of the divine. To ancient seers, man possessed all of the faculties necessary in his five senses in order to correctly perceive the nature of cosmos and his role in it; modern astronomy has not made a bit of difference in man's ability to make sense of his place in the world despite all of the knowledge it has gleaned. Burckhardt states that the 'celestial space in which the planets describe their revolutions represents in some ways the extreme limits of the sensible world, and these limits are inversely analogous to the centre which is man himself...' (p. 28). In this context, to give but one example, the relationship between Sun and Moon are indicative of divine aspects of man, which embody themselves in the differences between the sexes: 'The relation between the Sun and the Moon is analogous to that which holds between the Pure Intellect and reflection in the human form.' (p. 30) When the true significance of the earth as the 'centre' is grasped, the meaning of the precession of the equinoxes also takes on a different significance; Burckhardt does not discuss this particular subject explicitly in this book, but anyone interested in the notions of cyclical time will find a lot of food for thought in these passages.

In close, 'Mystical Astrology According to Ibn'Arabi' is highly recommended for serious students of esoterica and traditional cosmology, and it is difficult to recommend too highly (although the same can be said for all of Burckhardt's works.)

This is a great basic astrology book. I particularly like that it doesn't just talk about the planets and signs in your natal chart, but also discusses them as a stand alone entity. This is really helpful when wanting to look at astrology outside of the natal chart.

5-0 out of 5 stars Logical Astrology
When I first read this book it was one of the beginner books that was suggested and I did not appreciate it.I struggled with the idea that certain positions could be better placed than others. It seemed like a put down to everyone that I knew, but after a few years of doing charts I recognize the truth in what the Mr. Burk is writing.
It doesn't matter to me if he uses modern rulers or not; both methods are effective from what I have seen. The strongest point of this book is that it is not silly astrology. He writes in a professional manner that does not embarrass. Although I thought that he preferred certain signs, given his own chart it was understandable, and he doesn't dwell on his trivialities or promote sex roles. It is just astrology. I find that I sometimes reference this book to understand his observation of a position.

The fundamental thrust of this book is "what of Astrology given the advances in modern sciences and the crisis in Western spirituality?"Can Astrology be an empirical science? Can it be put into a positive and meaningful context in modern philosophy? What about modern psychology?

These are promising questions. Most of Rudhyar's attempts, however, fall flat to some extent. What he ends up suggesting is that astrology is essentially a theory of personality and that this is its most important application.I am not entirely sure I agree with Rudhyar, but it is a reasonable view.

The book is organized in two parts. The first is an exploration of what various philosophical ideas may apply to astrology and the second is an exploration of astrology as a theory of personality (or more broadly, an "algebra of life").

My approach would be very different from Rudhyar's view in that rather than working backwards from the present, I would likely work forward from early philosophical models. For example, in Timaeus, Plato offers a theory of astrology based on a common structure between the human spirit and the cosmos. As we move towards the present, there becomes an urge, which Rudhyar entertains, to try to place astrology and similar old traditions in the purview of scientific disciplines and psychological views.

The result is that I found a lot of Rudhyar's approach somewhat less than satisfying. He tries to treat acausal principles as scientific, and almost treats the I Ching as a scientific treatise.Yet for all the problems, he asks the profound and difficult questions and it is likely that individuals reading the book will be challenged and urged to think about some of the issues themselves.

As one can guess, this is not a beginning book on how to practice astrology. However, an urge to practice astrology is not needed to get something out of it.

Generally recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars A book for every home!
This is a small book(about 6" x 6") but it is packed with 400 pages of helpful, astrological information.A great reference guide packed with information!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
I have been extremely interested in astrology for a long time now and I was very excited to add this book to my ever-growing library. I thought it was great and very informative :]. I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in astrology. There were a lot of subjects covered in the book and the overall look of the book is great! :]

5-0 out of 5 stars Handy Guide; Great Value; Nicely done
I bought this beautifully illustrated and chunky book because of the WIDE variety of information it contains. It contains definitions and goes beyond to give you an overall basic understanding of Astrology and the different aspects of it. If you are looking for a complete guide, that goes into deep detail about all of the aspects pertaining, then this is not the book you're looking for. For me, this is a great reference guide to astrology.

Here's some of what I like about this book:
I like the amount of information given for each sign. For example, you get a profileaccording to: Appearance, Personality, Mind, Emotions, Strengths, Weaknesses, Shadow, Karma, Likes/Dislikes, Money, As a parent/As a child, Career, Leisure, and Gift ideas. (There is a small paragraph for each subject.)

I don't follow astrology as closely now as I did when I first became interested, so this book is extremely helpful for me if I know there's a certain aspect going on, and I need to look it up quickly to get a general idea of what's going on. (like...Oh! okay, now I remember what that's about!)

Other subjects covered are:
Elements
Qualities and Polarities
The Planets
The Houses and Angles (& aspect patterns)
The Aspects
The Unfolding Chart
How to interpret a chart
Compatability Chart (what type of lover each sign is)

I think this is a great guide for anyone interested in astrology. If there is a certain area you want more information on, then there are plenty of books you can find that will explain the specifics in much more detail. To get a general overview of how it all works, this is a great book for that. It's nicely organized.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yet another in the "Bible" series to love!
With 3 kids and a full-time job to work around, every minute saved counts! The "Bible" series has been a wonderful addition to my personal pagan library.I have other books that are more in depth that I could never live without ("The Only Astrology Book You'll Ever Need" for example) but the quick-find layout of these books has proven to be invaluable as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book
This is a very informative book i'm not particualy knowledgable on the subject and am not sure if there are other books that may be more informative. This is definetly a good choice for those who are just interested and maybe just curious on how to understand other people and yourself better. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An order just the way I like it!
I didn't think I would find this fairly esoteric astrology bookSoul Centered Astrology: A Key to Your Expanding Self as easily and in such good condition for such a good price as I did. I am very pleased with the condition the book is in and even more pleased at the price and service.

5-0 out of 5 stars Soul Centered Astrology
Alan Oken is the real deal. Every student of astrology should have this book in thier library.

5-0 out of 5 stars A "must" for students of astrology and metaphysics.
In Soul-Centered Astrology, students of metaphysics will learn ten postulates of the Ancient Wisdom Teachings; the nature and influence of the Seven Rays; the path of incarnation and the Three Crosses; the esoteric significance of the planets in the signs; and be treated to an in-depth analysis of the chakras as well as a guide to soul-centered natal chart delineation. Soul-Centered Astrology is a welcome, definitive, and highly recommended contribution to personal and professional astrology reference book collections.

4-0 out of 5 stars A must for those on the Path...
This is a masterpiece introductory course in esoteric astrology, inspired by Alan Oken's studies and intellectual excursions into the works of Alice Bailey and the Theosophical Society and propelled by his tremendous inspiration and excellent writing abilities.Esoteric astrology is the emerging paradigm, operating with expanded symbols of consciousness and its purpose is to be a reliable road-map for one's spiritual evolution. While in classical Western astrology the sun sign, moon sign, and rising sign are the three most important parameters in defining the personality of a subject-in that order, esoteric astrology reverses the order, with the rising sign as the revealer of the soul's purpose, the sun sign as the sign of probabilities, and the moon sign as the karmic accumulations in need to be discarded.Using concepts such as the fixed or the cardinal cross, and a reworking of the meanings of the planets in the houses, more in accord with our need to evolve towards the dictates of our own souls, this is a very generous, empowering, and soul-affirming book,so that when the soul is fully realized,it can depart and then be replaced by the Spirit... ... 4-0 out of 5 stars medicine wheel
This book is good for young men to read. People of Indian decnt will find it interesting

4-0 out of 5 stars Not traditional but interesting nonetheless.
I bought this book years ago (before Amazon.com even existed). I've met Sun Bear, Wabun and the whole Bear Tribe in person, when they were located near Spokane, WA. (I even met Medicine Story, one of the reviewers up there. Hi again!)

Several of the reviews take issue with the idea of an astrological-type system because there was no such thing among the native peoples of this continent. Well, Sun Bear himself said the same thing. The ideas in this book weren't meant to represent traditional Chippewa or Native American beliefs. They're a completely new idea, given to Sun Bear in a vision that he had.

Other reviewers mention that you are not locked in to particular personality traits due to the time of your birth, but that anyone can change. Sun Bear covered that as well. First, this system is just symbolism to try to give people some insight into how they are. It's not a hard-and-fast type of thing. It's more like Rosarch ink blots- just a tool to help you learn about yourself. Second, he says in the book that people often move around on the medicine wheel as they go through life, sharing traits with and seeing from the perspective of the various different totems.

As a self-analysis or self-help book I recommend Medicine Wheel. It's well worth a read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything that comes around goes around.
I have only read one book by Sun Bear and was facinated by the fact that anyone, Native or not, could find peace by just doing something spiritual like this.I am a member of two Ojibway tribes, and yes, I did grow up on three different reservations in my life so I feel I can speak with confidence on this matter. I do not care if people agree or disagree with the Native religions because they are all different and it is not up to me,or anyone else, to tell you what is native or non-native so if you believe you can find happiness from reading "astrological" points of view from Sun Bear then buy the book because it is better to love and practice something than to practice nothing at all.I would also recommend traveling to a nearby "Rez" for an introduction to religion, and they don't have to be Chippewa like myself or Sun Bear, because I know the best spiritual advise cannot be found in books. To correct a few reviews and from an Anthropological view, the Chippewa, or Ojibway, were not buffalo chasers like the plains natives, but fisherman and farmers from Canada with a HEAVY influence from the French (hows that for a European astrology connection) so please correct your review Apacheman because we, the Chippewa, are woodland indians so how could you know if we kept a calender or not (especially the Apaches being a Mexico indian).Native religions do not hate like others do so please do not give us a bad name because I read your profile and it seems all your reviews were negative. And as far as two bears is concerned I would like to know who named you or what naming ceramony you attended because we all have two lives, the one everybody see's and the one we hide(naming yourself does not constitute an indian name).

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Enjoyable
This book has come off the shelf multiple times. It has interesting insight and is enjoyable to read. If you like things like horoscopes and such, you'll enjoy Sun Bear's take on it all. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Stuff
I have been studying astrology for quite a while now, and my biggest issue with it is putting it all together to make a cohesive and informative reading of a chart...this book is a great help. She lays out a plan of action that is easy to understand and follow.I would recommend this book for beginners and advanced students alike.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very clear and helpful instruction
This is one of the most clearly written and insightful books that I have read - of many astrology books in my library.Carol has a wonderful way of clarifying what other authors have often made confusing. She goes through the natal promise, prediction, and eclipses and the importance of the lunation cycle.Wonderful read!Couldn't put it down.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth buying, but not the best
I refer to 'The Art of Predictive Astrology' relatively often. I think Carol Rushman is a competent astrologer. If you don't have anything else, the book is a great guide to the progressed planets, using aspects to predict marriage and divorce, et cetera.

My complaint is in the way it's written. No one likes a dry textbook but her book would be much better in a textbook format. Charts (charts in the traditional sense, not astrological charts) and tables would be useful and in fact, would have worked much better than her fleeting glimpses of what some of the signs denote in certain situations. Equally annoying is how personal she made the book ("I don't like the moon in Cancer, but that's because mine is natally in Aquarius" - ?). Personal anecdotes about having children, divorcing, and making money and blah blah blah just detract from the book.

I have encountered many of the ideas in the book for the first time (for example, early and late degree planets) but again it's tough to make the ideas useful based on what is in the book - she probably means to provoke thought in the reader and have him or her do their own research and discovery, which is good, but the flip side to that is if you're not advanced enough you won't be able to do the predictive astrology that she outlines in the book.

Good for advanced students of astrology, but beginners and intermediate students will need to learn from other sources. econ

1-0 out of 5 stars An Inaccurate Mess
I have been studying astrology for twenty years and practicing it for a few.I bought this book based on the glowing recommendations here on Amazon.I wish I had not.

The premise of the book is sound. It is that, unless something is promised in the natal chart, then it will not manifest in the life of a client. But the author almost immediately contradicts herself. On page 42 she says: "We are not stuck with the natal promise of our chart. There is always the potential to outgrow the more difficult aspects."WHAT?Does the natal promise matter or does it not? Please make up your mind!

From there it just gets worse and worse. The chapter called "The Natal Promise" is laughable and exemplary of the rest of this book. The author reduces everything to childish, ridiculous generalizations. For example, the entire section on "Success" is about the Nodes.Apparently, at least if you follow her advice, you have no chance of success unless your North Node is in an angular house (1, 4, 7 or 10).In the section "Violence/Rape," all she discusses are hard aspects between the Moon and Pluto.Try telling my friend who was savagely raped and beaten that she must have imagined it happening to her since she has no aspect in her chart between the Moon and Pluto.

Not only is this book shoddily written and edited, as another reviewer mentioned, but there are some GLARING errors. In the section on "Vocation," page 68, she claims that "Jackie Kennedy had her tenth-house Neptune in Scorpio, and she was a book editor."Well, Neptune did not even enter Scorpio until 1956 so unless Jackie O. was about seven years old when JFK was shot, then this is completely impossible.

Finally, a large bulk of this book, maybe a third of it, is devoted to childish, cookbook interpretations which are vastly oversimplified. But my biggest complaint comes with the author's system of making predictions itself. It ultimately relies on eclipses, progressed house cusps and the position of the progressed Moon in order to pinpoint dates and times of events. This, in my experience as an astrologer, simply doesn't work. And as someone else noted, she makes no mention of Solar Arc Directions whatsoever.

The author's rambling narrative and anecdotes occasionally bring up an interesting observation here and there. But based on all of her other glaring errors and omissions, it makes one wonder if her observations are even worth considering.Ironically, she even promotes in the introduction to the book that astrologers develop a "personal method" in making predictions (in other words, she is suggesting that you may not want to use her method).Honestly, I'm amazed that her method has worked for her, but if you are expecting it to work for you, then you are likely in for a big surprise.

This book was a huge waste of my time and I wish that I had not purchased it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful Book on Advanced Techniques in Astrology
First of all, I need to forwarn you, this book is NOT for beginers to astrology, it assumes you're already familiar with the basics.

I found this book very helpful in my studies; it was a turning point in my use of this ancient science.Where basic natal astrology is useful for providing a basic pyschological profile for the client, the techniques described in this book point out how the progressions point to the evolution of the individual. It also goes into eclipses and how they describe events in the life.
I would consider this book mandatory reading for anyone beyond the basics.5+ stars for this one! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-read for the predictive astrologer
This book is first in my bookshelf under Predictive Astrology. It has something for
the student at almost every level. It explains the basics in straight forward easy
to understand fashion but has lots of subtle points for the more advanced students
to appreciate. This book and "Identifying Planetary Triggers" by Celeste are "Must Reads" in the area of predictive astrology as far as I'm concerned. I have all Celeste's books and they are all great..

4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
There is so much valuable information in this book - for professional astrologers, beginners, and everyone in between - that it's a must for any astrology library. The author writes in such a clear way that even non-astrologers won't have to wade through a new lexicon to grasp what Celeste Teal has achieved with this book. Every section she covers - whether it's predictive techniques or love, marriage, accidents, death and bereavement - is done with such finesse that I kept racing back to my computer to run charts.

Absolutely recommended!

1-0 out of 5 stars TERRIBLE
This book was a complete waste of my time and money. I do not recommend this to ANYONE who wants an astrology book... unless you are already equipped with the "right" software. It gives you little to no explanation on how to get your natal chart let alone your progressed chart! If you want to look at others meaningless charts, just in case yours miiiiight look like one, then this is the book for you! It does have ALOTTTT of other peoples examples and what not. But good luck finding your own info. I just was looking for a more informative book. This did NOT NOT NOT fit that bill.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wealth of Information
The first edition of Predicting Events was the first book that introduced me to Celeste Teal, a student of Astrology for many years, I was looking for a book that I could learn more about Astrology, and bring me to a higher leavel, and understanding with the Nodes, Progressions, Solar Returns, and Eclipses, and how they all play a part in learning to read a chart, how important all the charts interact with each other in predicting events, and up coming events, I have had the first edition for many years, It was the book that I have been looking for, I learned so much, and had a new understanding of Astrology, it was a bible of Astrology for me, I was so fasanated with the book I decided to e-mail Celeste some questions concerning my own chart, and she replyed with so much information and compassion, and she has been teaching me and doing my charts for many years, her accuracy when doing my charts is just amazing, and how it has taught me, I was so excited to learn she was coming out with a revised edition of Predicting Events, I felt like I hit the jackpot again, I love how she updated the charts of the people in the first edition so you have an understanding of how it all played out with the current transits, progressions, and return charts, it has been a great tool for learning. The chapter on the Return Charts, the Solar, and Lunar with a wealth of information, and the Eclipses, and the Nodes, how inportant it is to look at Eclipses in your charts for the up coming year, not only your natal, but Progressed, and Solar return, and the Nodes tell the story of your destiny, where you are headed in this life time, and cross roads you my face. This is a must have book, Keep up the good work Celeste.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a must have

In today's world, the true nature and application of this science has been forgotten completely. In these works, Samael Aun Weor sheds the light of wisdom upon a science that is as ancient as the universe. In the third book, Samael Aun Weor gives the secrets of Theurgy, White Magic, which is the science of influencing nature's phenomena in the internal and external worlds under the guidance of Divine Will and Intelligence. The author writes: "The planets move, evolve and progress within the consciousness. The sidereal temples are within the consciousness. The human being is a zodiac and the zodiacal belt is within the consciousness."The ten Sephiroth of Kabbalah are the solar system. The seven inferior Sephiroth are the seven planets, and the crown formed by Kether, Chokmah and Binah, are the triune spiritual sun."These ten Sephiroth are within us and we must learn to manipulate them. We must learn how to transfer ourselves to the different stars in order to know the horoscopes of people."Conversing with the sidereal Gods, we will know our horoscope without the need for the much-boasted about arithmetic astrology."Arithmetic astrology was for the "Black Age." The age of "Astro-Theurgy" has now arrived!" ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars In-Depth
Im not very well versed in the Occult or Religious, but this book written by the Master Samael Aun Weor has given me many insights into the nature of these teachings.

There is profound knowledge contained within the covers of this book... this is clearly evident or will be at some stage to the reader, the author goes deep into the meanings of each card of the Tarot. Samael Aun Weor is very thorough in his explanations, although I have found it necessary to often re-read certain sentences, paragraphs etc in order to grasp intellectually due to the profoundness of the text.

This book is not just about the Tarot or how to use the Tarot cards, its much more than that... the author goes very deep into the esoteric, with in-depth explanations about the Tree of Life and the varying Dimensions that the Tree of Life unfolds into, deep mysteries are revealed to the reader... but one can go even deeper via Meditation if they know how to.

There are practical exercises also present throughout this book which im sure many will find very useful. Be prepared as you will be confronted with astounding information, highly classified military secrets do not compare to this type of information that was once kept hidden, this information is completely exposed for a reason... there is not much time left.

I highly recommend this book to anybody, if you can read.. make use of your reading ability with this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally some Practical Astrology!
Modern Astrology is mostly rubbish and written for the entertainment of wishful thinkers, there is little that is practical in any of it. Samael Aun Weor comes to the rescue of this problem with his wonderful work entitled "Astrotheurgy."

This book is 100% practical. Samael Aun Weor gives exercises for each sign of the zodiac to be performed during the sign's period. He also gives a clear and precise explanation of each sign, as well as the influences that govern individuals from each sign.

The publishers were kind enough to include two more of Samael's works into this one book (a 3 in 1). The second part of this work goes into further detail of the signs of the zodiac and the third part gives practical exercises for practicing White Magic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Masterpiece
I just recieved this book a couple of days ago and am having an extremely hard time keeping my eyes off of it. This book from the Venerable Master is another esoteric masterpiece that gets to the heart of the science of language of all the world's religions: Kabbalah and the Tarot.

Readers should be warned that this is rather advanced book in the Gnostic Library from the tradition of Samael Aun Weor and should be prepared for some heavy reading and meditation.

1-0 out of 5 stars Out there without a net
My main problem with this book is that although there is some interesting information and pictures in it, the author seems to be pretty much of a nut case. He is convinced that he is some kind of superior being who has achieved the depths of all knowledge, but I have not found any of his material to be all that useful, and in places (often significant places), it is just downright weird and confusing. It is often hard to escape the impression that he is being deliberately vague or confusing simply to sound more knowing or profound.

Anyone who is interested in an introduction to the Tarot and the Qabalah would be much better served by a book such as "Qabalistic Tarot" by Robert Wang, or even "The Mystical Qabala" by Dion Fortune (although the latter is much more focused on the Qabala than the Tarot).

1-0 out of 5 stars Huge Disappointment
I had high hopes for this work, based on some of the other reviews here and the description of the book. What I found after starting to read is a book that goes against what the vast majority of other texts and schools consider to be the correct attributions for the card meanings when applying Hebrew letters. This was the first major diversion from other widely known and accepted principles, and it just got worse from there. This book seems highly slanted toward a 'christian' gnosticism viewpoint, and might as well be a book of dogma. I was not impressed at all by this.

The author's reasoning for all of this is that he has "experienced" his gnosis as opposed to others who "just write about it" but have never really experienced it. I think this is a rather egocentric viewpoint coming from someone who was supposedly enlightened to begin with. I don't buy it, and don't buy into all of the dogma associated with what he is purporting to be 'enlightenment', either.

I don't recommend this book, and further don't recommend his philosophy on enlightenment, either. In fact, from other people's statements on his works and reputation, he and his followers are very dogmatic and cultish. From the writing in this book, I can see how that could be easily true. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An astrological textbook
This book is quite detailed and technical so I would say best suited to serious students of astrology. They however will be rewarded by giving due attention to this book as Noel knows his stuff through and through and is very generous in his sharing of his knowledge with others. This is a man who has done thousands of charts and systematically tracked clients through time as they grow and change.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good book but not practical enough
I was looking for something more specific, exact and this book is good for
astrologers may be but not too helpful for readers. For example, the word "communications" is given as a key word to almost any vocation possible, leaving you with no practical example how to relate "communicatins" with your other trends.

5-0 out of 5 stars Vocations: The New Midheaven Extension Process
Noel Tyl's newest book, Vocations: The New Midheaven Extension Process, is a great book that is well written and easy to understand. His techniques are explained in detail and the book is loaded with lots of examples. His technique re-defines an old topic of vocational astrology. His accuracy is uncanny. If you don't have the means & time to attend one of his seminars, this book is the next best thing to being there in person!

5-0 out of 5 stars How to locate the vocational profile in a horoscope
Noel Tyl's VOCATION: SPECIAL TOPICS IN ASTROLOGY tells how to locate the vocational profile within a horoscope: a notoriously hard task astrologers often struggle over. This is not just a review of the problems: practicing professional astrologer Tyl has developed his own process - the Midheaven Extension Process - and tested its results to provide a new page to the vocational astrology application. It's a lesson plan other astrologers will relish. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Orginal premise concerning Pluto is inaccurate!
Jeff Green's book is based on the premise that Pluto in your Natal Chart is the symbol of your soul.I do agree that the soul, or some say spirit, is the eternal aspect of you.Pluto is NOT THE SYMBOL of your soul.Pluto is Mars to the tenth power and therefore tends to bring mayhem amd heavy disruption in your life when it activates your other Natal Planets by its very slow transit. It is clear that Jeff did not spend much time in school writing compositions. The text is convoluted and hard to follow far too often. But the main flaw is the incorrect premise which underminds the several worthy insights in this book.I have been a practicing astrologer for 43 years in this life. That is not counting the other sojourns I lived when my life work was astology. The first hint of this was when my teacher, Lloyd Cope, was astonished at how quickly I learned the art.

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't put it down
This was one of the first astrology books I bought. I didn't understand it then as I do now. But, that first time I picked it up in the bookstore I couldn't put it down. It was so compelling an so interesting that I had to buy it. I still have it. I highly recommend Jeff Green to anyone wanting to understand Pluto in astrology.

1-0 out of 5 stars Faith or Reason?
Either you take your astrology on faith and subscribe to inventive, creative models and procedures, or you accept the long and venerable tradition of this wondrous ancient craft and listen up to our predecessors. This book is a perfect example of where modern astrology goes right off the rails. If I'm going for a "made-up" version of astrology, I'll do it for myself rather than take another's "rantings" and "visionary" knowledge at face value.Green's book adds nothing to the real core of astrological understanding. Instead he shines an hallucinatory light on a "planet" which has no light, and which deserves to be placed way down in the hierarchy of any delineation or practice of astrology. Do yourself a favour and read a book by a traditional author on essential principles of astrology. For me this book was a complete waste of time - another modern "cookbook" of deluded two-dimensional astrology. If your taste in music runs to the Wiggles, then this book is for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars very esoteric, gorgeously writen
Jeff Green, true to his writing style, conveys information in a very esoteric, soul- driven manner. If you are more spiritually inclined, this is a great book for exploring the meaning of Pluto and its indications for past and future lives, facilitating your own evolution, and a foundational text in the exploration of evolutionary astrology. His writing style does get very ethereal in moments, so some passages require the reader to stop and contemplate so that the full impact can be felt. not really an easy read, but so deep and profound that the effort is worthwhile, especially for those with a lot of Pluto action in their charts or experiencing a Pluto transit. ...
