Financial Aid, Scholarships, and CLEP Return to Fast Track Home Going to the Source "Helping employees keep up, helping them advance their education level and plan for their children's schooling are critical issues for today's corporations," says Julian Gloria, manager of domestic retail human resources for Blockbuster Inc. For a company the size of Blockbuster, however, addressing those issues is a challenge. "The Blockbuster work force encompasses two very distinct populations," Gloria explains. "In our field organization, which is the part of the company most customers know the retail stores and field offices we have a very Gen X work force. The average age is somewhere between 20 and 24." That field force numbers 60,000 and is spread across the country in some 3,700 stores and field offices. How does one get timely information into the hands of so many employees in so many different locations? "We distributed CLEP Discovery Paks and posters to each retail store," says Gloria. "In a cover letter from headquarters, we told them what kinds of benefits were available and gave instructions that, if employees were interested, managers could contact CLEP directly and have more Discovery Paks mailed to their stores."

CBS News | Are We Raising A Nation Of Wimps? | October 3, 2002 12:24:38 a little older and realize there's no such game as, Everybody Gets Into A GreatCollege Without Even They have to go back to that school playground tomorrow http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2002/10/03/opinion/garver/main524246.shtml
Extractions: (CBS) I'm not for going back to the bad old days of bullies running the playground, corporal punishment, or throwing a kid into a pool to see if he can swim. I don't think we need teachers and coaches who spend their days embarrassing and yelling at kids. But in our desire to be more humane towards children, I wonder if our politically correct urge to be sensitive has gone too far. When I was a kid, back before self-esteem issues were invented, I thought tag was fun whether I was "it" or being chased by "it." Obviously, just like any children's game, injuries can happen while playing tag. However, it seems more logical to make sure there is enough adult supervision so kids can play tag, rather than getting rid of it. Nobody wants kids to get hurt, but that doesn't mean they have to start playing things like "Velcro The Tail On The Donkey."
