Behavior Management: Lesson 2 This lesson discusses teacher and paraeducator roles in behavior management, and provides information about behavior management plans. http://para.unl.edu/para/Behavior/lesson2.html
Extractions: Planning and Coordinating Behavior Management The purpose of this lesson is to examine how paraeducators and teachers can plan together in managing student behaviors. Planning for behavior management is important because it establishes a consistent approach to teaching students behaviors, provides a convenient way to document progress, assists teachers in training of paraeducators, and helps clarify specific teacher and paraeducator responsibilities. This lesson discusses teacher and paraeducator roles in behavior management, and provides information about behavior management plans. The roles and responsibilities of both paraeducators and teachers are important in managing behavior. The classroom teacher is responsible for making major decisions, creating a positive classroom environment, writing behavior plans, carrying out interventions and establishing classroom rules and procedures. Paraeducators perform a variety of tasks that are unique to their position as well. Paraeducator roles include: demonstrating, explaining, modeling, and reinforcing appropriate behavior and skills. Additional roles often include: observing, monitoring, and recording students behaviors in carrying out a particular behavior management plan. Teachers and paraeducators are equally vital in working together on behalf of students. Paraeducators may observe a number of behaviors that the supervising teacher does not see, in the classroom, the lunchroom, the playground, and the halls. Therefore, it's the paraeducator's responsibility to bring to the teacher's attention any concerns about behaviors of students they observe. Paraeducators compliment the role of the teacher in a variety of ways; they can respond immediately to students, assist in working with smaller groups and individual activities, increase monitoring, provide frequent attention, help prevent problems and deal with them quickly when they arise.
Unit 5: Behavior Management Coordinating behavior management. Teacher and Paraeducator Roles; behaviormanagement plans. lesson 3 Group management Strategies http://para.unl.edu/para/Behavior/Intro.html
Extractions: Behavior Management Management of student behavior is a major concern of teachers and paraeducators because of its importance in establishing a positive learning environment. Creating the opportunity to learn and develop both academic and behavioral skills is essential to an effective classroom. This unit provides paraeducators with basic information to assist them in contributing to an effective behavior management approach. The unit addresses the goals of behavior management; planning and the roles of paraeducators in carrying out behavior management; strategies which assist in managing students and promoting positive behavior; and ethical considerations related to classroom management. The intent of the unit is not to provide the paraeducator with everything they need to know about behavior management but rather to provide a starting point for working effectively with the teacher. You will notice that the focus of the unit is on finding ways to assist and support students in being successful rather than on controlling misbehavior. After completing this unit and its activities the paraeducator should expect to be able to: Explain the purposes and philosophy of behavior management.

Extractions: and Julieann Benyo, Ogden City School District, Ogden, Utah Students in middle school and high school can take charge of their own behavior and classroom discipline with some encouragement, and perhaps an element of competition to make it exciting. A pair of educators in Maryland developed a self-management plan, tested on middle-school students, that builds on the "thumbs up, thumbs down" feedback method many teachers use with very young children. The plan gives teachers a quiet way, without disrupting their teaching, to let students know when they are not acting appropriately.
