5-0 out of 5 stars Worked for me, but a little cheesy.
I'm a cynic. I loath self-help books and counseling/psycho babble type stuff absolutely makes me seeth with a burning hatred.
However, when my father died of cancer someone gave me this book, and while it does have some cringe worthy cheesiness it did help quite a bit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Grief Rituals
I bought this book ten years ago, during a period of intensive grief.I used it to develop my own very cathartic rituals that were instrumental in my reaping maximum benefit from my grief process.Over the years, I lost the book and recently replaced it through Amazon for my spirituality library.I highly recommend it as part of a highly-selective reference library on grief for anyone suffering through it.

3-0 out of 5 stars A bit too New age
This was not what I thought it was when I got it. It was a bit to new age, and the rituals a bit to mundane for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars good grief
This book has proven to be a valuable resource for may grief specialists in the community.Previous reviews seemed to have missed the point that the book may serve as an outline for grief work or used in conjunction with therapy. The book is not a substitute for the "Real"life work that needs to be done.Consider that Elaine has thought about these issues long before "grief" held such cache in the psychological community. One reviewer mentioned New Age or Zenetc.,Why not.. Freudian drive theory did not do us much good on the issue-- did it?

1-0 out of 5 stars Good Grief Rituals
I am a grief facilitator and have read over 50 books on grief. For some people a "ritual" helps them to let go of the pain. But I found the style of these rituals to be too "Zen."I really don't think that people in grief need to "get intouch with their inner child." Using insense in some of the rituals felt too mystical to me. I did like the ritual of digging a hole and putting in all the negetive feelings of pain, but most of the suggested rituals were too "new age" for my taste. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Grief Recovery Handbook
Excellent book, the focus is on a huge oversight of much needed healing for everyone, cuts healing into weeks instead of years. A must read for sure.

5-0 out of 5 stars Grief
This book was definitely an insight into the grieving process. My husband died about 4 1/2 years ago and I needed some personal help to get through it.By reading the books that I have at MY home was much more help than seeking counselling. Each person has to deal with grief the best way they possibly can; and this did help me a great deal.

5-0 out of 5 stars Grief Recovery Handbook
I took a class for grief and my instructer had all of us get this book prior to class, I highly recommend it - it really helps you get through the pain you are in, say good bye to it and helps you to move on.

5-0 out of 5 stars grief recovery
This is the first kind of book of ever read on grief. It was recommended to me by 3 friends. It is excellent! It covers every point you can think of. How people treat people who are grieving and how the person grieving has been taught to grieve. It is very helpful to do with a partner but you can do it alone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gentle and Kind
This book takes you through the grief process gently and kindly. It dispels the myth that there is something wrong with you for being sad.It explains why others are so uncomfortable in your presence.I higly recommend it. ... Read more

Product Description
When a loved one dies it can seem like life will never be normal again. The world can become a blur of flowers, relatives, cards, and well-meaning visitors; and the griever may feel that he or she cannot come up for air. But there is normalcy after death, say authors Zonnebelt-Smeenge and De Vries; it just takes some time--and help--to get there. Traveling through Grief takes readers on the journey toward life after death, focusing on five common tasks of grief: accepting the reality of death, embracing all the emotions associated with death, storing memories, separating oneself from the deceased, and reinvesting fully in one's own life. This book is the perfect gift for a grieving friend or tool for a loved one in need. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful!
This is a book that should be on every bookshelf as it is hard to find someone who has not suffered the loss of a loved one. I found chapter 4 (Help from Others) especially useful...I never thought of looking for websites on this topic.

The part I liked best however was the format of her book. I enjoyed reading the contributions of people coming from all over the place. It gives the book a whole different perspective and makes you feel like you can really connect with someone who has gone through the same things.

Although this is a serious topic, there is a bit of humor in it too. I have to admit that some of the examples of the humorous epitaphs made me laugh.

5-0 out of 5 stars Comfort and Support for Those Who Grieve
SOLACE hits just the right notes for those desirous of comfort, support, and answers in times of grief and loss. Author Roberta Temes provides readers with marvelously clear advice regarding what to expect when faced when suffering the loss of a loved one. Grief is a process that occurs in stages that each can last for months, typically starting with a sense of numbness, followed by disorganization, and reorganization. Dr. Temes assures readers that "You will get on with your life," although "It won't be the same life you had."

SOLACE provides those in grief with a sense that someone understands what they are going through, as well as ways to cope with situations, feelings and events they might never have encountered before. Temes helps to answer questions regarding to what extent something we are experiencing is normal (such as flashbulb memories involving crystal clear recollections of past events with our beloved), and provides suggestions as to how we can help ourselves through challenging times.

I love the no-nonsense suggestions Temes offers in SOLACE, as she encourages people to mourn in their own fashion, and points out resources the bereaved may not have known are available. I highly recommend SOLACE to anyone feeling lost in any of the stages of grief, as well as for those living and working with those who grieve.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Helpful Resource
If you have lost a loved one, a friend, or a co-worker, or if you've maybe experienced some trauma that has changed your life, grieving that event is perfectly normal and natural.

It is through grief and the grieving process, that we are able to heal, and to find new strength to help us continue on our journey that is life.

In Roberta Teme's new book, Solace: Finding Your Way Through Grief and Learning to Live Again, the author gives the reader practical advice in a compassionate way to help us as individuals cope with our loss.

The author suggests helpful ways to help those who are grieving. Two sections which I found very interesting were: Helping Children Who Are Grieving, and a section on Rituals and Remembering. If you or someone you know has experience a loss, you might want to consider this self-help/grief book. It was very good.

5-0 out of 5 stars WE all need SOLACE.
Solace, touched my heart and soul. As a hospice volunteer, I have read dozens and dozens of books about the grieving process. This particular book shed new light and insight and information. Dr. Temes speaks from her heart as well as her clinical and professional experiences. Solace is thoughtful, philosophical and incredibly practical. Simple and good advice prevails. Solace also includes a compilation of personal vignettes from a variety of individuals, each of whom has experienced a great loss. These are real stories with real suggestions. I think the part of Solace which I personally found most meaningful was the chapter called "Rituals and Remembering." However, there is another chapter entitled, "Novel Ways to Help Yourself." Solace offers just what its title implies: comfort and consolation. This is a book that I will definitely share with my hospice patients, their families, fellow volunteers and all the other wonderful souls involved with hospice work.

5-0 out of 5 stars A companion for coping with the death of a loved one
Whenever I read the pages of Solace, it feels like Dr. Temes is holding my hand and rubbing my back as I mourn the death of my mother. I understand that Dr. Temes is an expert but I never feel like I'm being talked down to or reading a book written by someone who has knowledge but no understanding. This book taught me how to live my life while mourning the death of someone I loved so deeply. The real life examples of how people mourn differently are comforting and the ideas in the book have helped me find a place to put my grief so that I didn't feel so consumed by it. Solace has been like a really smart best friend that knows just how tomake me feel better and I highly recommend it to anyone who has suffered a loss. ... Read more

This is a great book and I would highly recommend it to anyone going into counseling and also for some parents who struggle with their child's death.

5-0 out of 5 stars A critique
Living with Grief after Sudden Loss brings the reader into the world ofthe survivor. The tragedy has shattered and forever changed the world inwhich he or she lives.Leading thanatologists, accomplished authors andthose working in the field of loss and transition weave their experience ina book that deals with the grief proces and sudden death.

The book waswritten for those attending the 1996 Hospice Foundation of America's thirdannual teleconference. The book is a valuable guide for anyone working thefield of death and dying. The book covers five critical points of interest. Grief is a highly individual reaction.Different types of sudden losscreate unique issues for survivors.Survivors of sudden loss are oftencoping simultaneously with both grief and the loss of their normal world. Survivors of sudden loss need both short and long term intervention. Caregivers at all levels may be affected by traumatic loss so self-care iscritical.

Ken Doka's book, Living with Grief after Sudden Loss is abook best reccommended for those working in the field of trauma.Thechapters are written by leaders in the field, the findings aresubstantiated by empirical research and the topics covered are criticalissues that need to be understood. There is much validity in the work andproves itself as an all in one source for living with grief after suddenloss. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars What an Amazing Journey
The Healing Journey Through Grief: Your Journal for Reflection and Recovery

A group of 3 other women began this journey with me in January 2010. A pair of friends in Oregon had recommended it to me and had suggested that I do it with another friend and so we all got together and began. We made the committment to finish it no matter what "life issues" got in the way, and 8 months later, we did. 2 women had recently lost sons who were in their late 20's, 1 woman was grieving the recent of her father, and I was grieving the loss of my mobility.

While I can't speak for the other women specifically, I can say, this book was life changing, truly. I began as I said grieving my loss of mobility, but ended up grieving my loss of parents (they died in the 70's) my brother (he died in 2000!) and my dog who died in 2009!). This book gives so many wonderful tool, but more than that, affirming, uplifting, concrete writing, reading & exercises to be shared that let you know that the things your are feeling..... everyone else feels just the same, REALLY.

We started another group 3 months later, and reading what I had written with the newer group was such a revelation. I realized how far I had progressed.

I'll be ordering a new book, as we are now in the process of starting ANOTHER group with some more people. This will be now 11 people who have gone through this book with me. I'm so grateful for all I am learning. Please, try it. You will be amazed, IF YOU DO THE WORK, WITH OTHERS!

1-0 out of 5 stars this should really be a zero star rating. I paid $ 17 for a summary of a workbook?!
The reviews and summaries of this book leads the reader to believe that the information and healing exercises are in the book he or she is buying. After reading the 22 page book, i find it is an overview of workbook that is sold separately. i havee thrown away $17 if can not persuade amazon to refund my money.
***buyer beware

1-0 out of 5 stars Already written in it.
I waited for this book and then when I recieved it there was writing with a pen in it.I am a substance abuse specialist and I need to make copies of this book for some of my clients and I can't.I was very disappointed and I was not able to return because my husband opened the box and threw all paper work away.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Healing Journey Through Grief; Your Journal Through Reflection and Recoveru
I purchased this book three times, the first was when my sister passed; but,I never used it for grieving for her. However, my daughter recently passed and I picked up this book in my bookcase at a most crucial time in my life. I won't go through the obvious emotions, but, I will say that this book was everything I could hope for. I write a lot, and journalism is productive for me, it helps me to sort, visibly, through the mess.
I again purchased this edition for a close friend when his mother passed and I am hoping that he will find the comfort that I have through the research and writing process.
And, ultimately, I purchased a third copy for an impending death of another family member because I realize that, with time, my thoughts being structured through guidance in this book will once again bring me comfort. The control over such situations is not ours, the result, is. Additionally, should something happen to me, my family can know my purest thoughts and how I worked through the pain and anguish, leading them to a resource to help them to become stronger individuals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, wonderful book
I used this journal 7 years ago after losing my 31 year old brother.I have since recommended it to anyone I know who has suffered a loss.In addition to grief counseling, I think this was the single most effective tool for beginning to put my life back together.I still have the completed journal and go back from time to time and realize how far I have come.I would highly recommend this wonderful book! ... After losing my mom and then my dad two years later, this book was given to me from a friend. It has touched my heart in a very significant way - I highly recommend it to anyone who is walking through the loss of a loved one.

1-0 out of 5 stars Winter Grief Book doesn't help
Beware of title. I was seeking something to help me cope while I saw my Mother and Husband suffer from Terminal Illnesses and Die, but this book did not help. The title was deceiving. It's short with Poetry Sections, and I felt I wasted my time and money on this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Winter Grief, Summer Grace
James Miller has combined beautiful photography and timeless quotes to provide a book filled with inspiration and hope for those who are grieving. He has also provided very practical suggestions for dealing with one's loss and the assurance that the grieving process is a 'natural' part of life.I have given this book to many friends who were grieving the loss of a spouse, a parent, or someone else dear to them. All have found it to be a helpful part of their journey toward healing.

5-0 out of 5 stars A most meaningful book
When my wife died more than three years ago, I read a lot and attended a number of gried support groups. This book spoke to me more than any other I read at the time.Since that time I have given a copy to about a dozen friends who have suffered a tragic loss -- either a spouse, child or parent. The response from the others is the same as mine.It is a powerful, meaningful, and comforting book.Miller uses his full range of talents -- minister, grief counselor, and photographer -- to bring together a wonderful book. The reader is comforted with the context for loss he provides.I can't recommend it strongly enough.

5-0 out of 5 stars Winter Grief, Summer Grace
Winter Grief, Summer Grace: Returning to Life After a Loved One Dies (Miller, James E., Willowgreen Series.)
I first became familiar with this book following my husband's death 16 years ago. Like the seasons of the year, this book follows the seasons following a death, beginning with Autumn (the "fall" from peace), and progressing through Winter (a "harsh" time), Spring (with its "fragile beginnings") and into Summer (the worst having been dealt with; a time when hope for new life can develop within you). Unlike the seasons of the year which ends in 365 days, the seasons of grief take as long as is necessary for each individual person. Like the year, each of which is different, the year(s) following the death of a loved one will each be different, but with time will become easier to handle. Each "season" is to be read when you are ready to move a little further along in your grief journey and offers quotes, Scripture readings, helpful diagogue, and is followed with helpful suggestions for each stage of grief. I found comfort from reading this book and following some of the suggested means of support. This has been an excellent gift to grieving friends who have been so positive in their acceptance of the book. Of my large collection of books dealing with grief, I found this to be the most useful in offering me concrete ways to lead me in a healthy way to overcome my grief and to restore me to a life of new and enjoyable beginnings.

No matter what the circumstances, death shakes us to the core. It seems so wrong - and it is! We long for comfort, but we don't know where to look. Product Description
About Grief is a refreshingly down-to-earth book about an issue that blindsides many people. Written in a warm and conversational way that is, at times, deeply moving, at times, surprisingly amusing, and always practical, it covers a wide range of issues facing people in grief. Marasco and Shuff have done the footwork for readers who wish to know more about this complex subject. Using a variety of sources, including books, films, music and many hours spent talking with people in grief, the authors distill their candid insights into a series of short, single-topic-essays that can be easily digested in one sitting--a format they found grieving people preferred. This is not a book written by clinicians, so there's no cold jargon. It's not a memoir of one individual's grief, so it has something for everyone. And it's not a self-peddling inspirational book. It's a wise, plain-spoken, comforting book about an intimidating topic. As one reader recently said of About Grief: "Reading this book is like having a smart, entertaining friend around--at a time when you really need one." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars SO inspiring
I'm so thankful to have found this book. Ron Morasco and Brian Shuff have brilliant insights that they put into words so beautifully. This should turn out to be a best seller.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Book is Different
My son died earlier this year, and I read numerous books and articles about grieving. These were "nice" books but tended to all sound alike, seemed to miss the essence of what was going on and often became mind numbingly heavy. However, the authors of this book just "got it". No topic was taboo and the reality of each situation was addressed with tremendous insight into what's going on. This was the only book I read that gave me an understanding about my feelings, how other people they interviewed had coped and how to make some sense out of things. Lee Bennett

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible non-fiction
This is, without a doubt, some of the best non-fiction I've ever read. Marasco and Shuff tackle the subject of grief with such a subtle combination of irreverence and sensitivity, that this book is enjoyable regardless of your level of experience with grief. Comforting and empathetic without ever being patronizing, this book offers astute scenarios dealing with grief in all forms and is an insightful how-to guide for anyone who has ever experienced loss.

5-0 out of 5 stars About Grief...
This was a practical and great book about grief. There are case by case scenarios and illustrations of something we inevitably and sadly face but we are also not alone as we face it. I lost my mother a few years ago and I am grateful for the beautiful years she spent on Earth. As I read About Grief I related to the book a lot and definitely felt at peace with my emotions. I highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Book For Anyone
This book covers the subject of grief very well, and is clearly intended to help anyone who is dealing with grief, knows someone who is dealing with grief, or anyone who will, at some point in their lives, be faced with grief--which is frankly everyone. I bought a copy for my mother who has dealt with several deaths in the family recently, and she is finding it a wonderful resource and comfort. ... Read more

Product Description
James Van Praagh, renowned medium and bestselling author, reveals how the devastating sorrow of a loss can lead to incredible opportunities for spiritual growth and bring a sense of renewal and focus to our lives. This deeply felt, wise, and compassionate book offers hope for a true healing of the mind and spirit, as we move beyond grief and loss-to a life of freedom, joy, and purpose.Amazon.com Review
World-renowned medium James Van Praagh (Talking to Heaven, Reaching to Heaven) says he has listened intensely for thousands of hours to "the subtle whispers between our earthly world and the finer etheric world of spirit." In writing this book on grieving, Van Praagh hopes to offer comfort and reassurance of eternal life, "so that you do not have to go through the rest of your days groping blindly in sorrow and pain," he explains. Yet Van Praagh also offers doses of his own hard-earned wisdom, keeping this guidebook firmly grounded in an earth-smart kind of reality.

Healing Grief is divided into four sections: The first part addresses "The Process," how humans cope with grief, including personal ruminations on the classic four stages. In part 2 Van Praagh speaks to "When Someone You Love Dies," offering specific essays on losing parents, grandparents, siblings, lovers, best friends. In part 3 he recognizes the numerous other losses that we grieve over--divorce, midlife crisis, losing a home or a job. In the final section Van Praagh speaks to reclaiming our lives, calling upon all that he believes of the after-life as well as listing specific rituals and activities that promote healing. Fans will appreciate his characteristically smooth writing style and the numerous fascinating anecdotes from his clients. --Gail Hudson ... Read more

The book I ordered was delivered in great time and in great shape.
I purchase from this site without hesitation, again and again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book on grief healing
I passed this book to my friends who were grieving and it was evident that the book has helped them. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for relief from grief. Readers who are interested in other books related to grief healing can refer to: Home with God: In a Life That Never Ends and Wisdom on How to Live Life (Book 2): Transforming Earth into Heaven.

5-0 out of 5 stars Comforting and Healing
This book is the most comforting and loving book about grief.I have given this to so many people to help them with their grief process. The feedback has always been positive.Even if you might not agree with everything that is in this book, the underlying message is so comforting and loving. The book gives you permission to feel all the mixed emotions you may be having.I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has or is experiencing any kind of loss.

5-0 out of 5 stars Words of Comfort
Whether you are a "believer" or a "skeptic," I think this book can provide substantial comfort to almost anyone who has lost a loved one. Over the past 25 years or so, I have read a number of books by various psychics who are gifted with the ability to communicate with spirits.I do not know why some of these psychics actually wrote their books; in some cases I think they may have simply been on an "ego trip." However, with Mr. Van Praagh's book, I believe his intention is to reassure his readers that their departed loved ones are still "alive," although in another dimension, and that eventually they will be reunited with them.I think Mr. Van Praagh has organized his material exceptionally well, according to the questions/concerns he has heard expressed by ordinary folks who have attended his seminars and demonstrations.I recently lost my loved one, and this book helped me to cope with my grief.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read when you're dealing with grief
Healing Grief helped me personally face death and dying with grace and a plan to help move me forward. Losing any loved one can send your life spiraling into a tail-spin of despondency and darkness where light seems absent. This book feels like I'm talking to an old and savvy friend who gives compassionate and heart-felt advice with plenty of stories you can associate with.

Thanks James for being there for all of us who suffer.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Book
At the time of my first daughter's death in 1986, this was the *only* book I could find that was of any help to me. While other books at the time relied heavily on expressions of "faith" to guide and support bereaved parents, this exquisite book uses photographs ofartand poetry from throughout history and cultures to illustrate and describe what a parent feels. It was so helpful to me to see that parents had always felt the same as I was feeling, and survived; and the book showed me this without relying on the organized religion that I felt so pressured to participate in by many well-meaning people but which honestly offered me no solace whatsoever.I found the book to be so validating of every feeling, every emotion, every terror that grief brought to me. The book was incredibly affirming to me and I appreciated the practical and honest approach it takes to supporting parents and advising their helpers.

5-0 out of 5 stars This caring book will be of great comfort to those in need..
This highly acclaimed and consistently best-selling book was written to help grieving family members and concerned caregivers learn to cope with the death of a child. While there are no easy answers to how to deal with overwhelming loss of this sort, this book offers understanding and support with explicit guidelines and helping techniques. The text is fully illustrated with works of art and poems that are able to express in a powerful way what words sometimes cannot. This caring, warm and thoughtful book will be enormously helpful to all those who must confront the tragedy of a child's death, both victims and mental health professionals.

5-0 out of 5 stars "A Child Dies" - comments of a bereaved grandfather
This is an excellent book in a time of despair.I have also read "A Broken Heart Still Beats", finding that book valuable, but frankly - for our family, "A Child Dies" better filled our needs. This book uses art and poetry to help the reader connect with the timelessnessand universality of grief. It is a briefer read than "A BrokenHeart" and the chapters are segmented into topics such as: death of aninfant, young child and older child.I found that the chapter written forspecifically for caregivers useful.

The authors exude compassion, wisdomand experience. They gently confront the gruesome issues the parents of alost child will likely encounter (martial problems, interaction withothers, etc).My 9-month old grandaughter was killed the first day of thenew millenia, by a drunk driver, as my daughter was walking her in herstroller.Needless to say, our families are shattered. My daughter and Ifound this book the best of several which we have read in these twohearbreaking weeks. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Understanding Grief
This is an excellent book. It is a good self-help book.I lost my mother over a year ago and I have just read it in the last few weeks. It really helps one to understand that what they are going through is normal.I highly recommend this book to anyone that is going through the grief and mourning process of losing someone that you loved very much.It has helped me so much.

5-0 out of 5 stars Coping with Grief
I learned about this book when I attended a hospice sponsored grief group
after the death of my father to cancer. This book combines good reading,
excellent guidance, and a way to do some journaling of thoughts.

I have given this book to family and friends who have lost loved ones to
cancer. It does make it easier to share feelings. A great tool in the
journey of grieving.

5-0 out of 5 stars Solace and Wisdom When You Feel No One Understands
This book has been a great comfort to me during many moments of extreme loneliness and pain. Grieving can make you feel misunderstood, misplaced and lost -- and this author truly understands. Reading this compassionate book helped me realize that all of the extreme feelings one experiences while grieving are completely normal. The many written exercises in the book can be tough to work through, but they are healing. You could easily skip all the exercises and find comfort in reading the text alone. I also found this book very helpful in understanding and dealing with people who expect you to just "pick up the pieces" and get on with liferight after the funeral. The book makes the point that Western society in general is guilty of encouraging those of us who mourn to cut our grieving process short. This book is perfect for the person grieving a loss, as a gift for a family member or friend who is grieving, or as a primer for those who are walking with someone through griefand would like some insight into the process and experience of grieving.

5-0 out of 5 stars Invaluable, infomrative, comforting, encouraging.

Product Description

Based on the author's previous guides to a 10-touchstone method of grief therapy, this book takes an inspirational approach to the material, presenting the idea of wilderness as a sustained metaphor for grief—and likening the death of a loved one to the experience of being wrenched from normal life and dropped down in the middle of nowhere. Feeling lost and afraid in this uncharted territory, people are initially overwhelmed, the book explains, but they begin to make their way through the new landscape by searching for trail markers—or touchstones—until they emerge as intrepid travelers climbing up out of despair. The touchstones for each step are described in short chapters such as "Embrace the Uniqueness of Your Loss," "Recognize You Are Not Crazy," and "Appreciate Your Transformation."

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read
My 29 year old daughter was murdered last year. I started reading anything I could find at the library just trying to figure out how I was going to survive this or if I really wanted to. After reading many books I found "Awakening from Grief" and couldn't put it down. It made me look at things in a different way and with a different understanding. This book has helped me more then I had ever imagined it would and I think just about anyone at whatever point you are in your life needs to read this book. I have since bought my own copy of it and am just finishing it for the second time. I am looking forward to reading more books by John Welshons

5-0 out of 5 stars Life Changing
I am not one who has had many "light bulb moments in my life" but this book turned a switch in my life and allowed me to heal.Multiple losses (a foster child back to her parents, fires, deaths, job, and a divorce) left me paralyzed.Overwhelmed by the continuous waves of losses, my defense was to not feel.I finally understood that if I was to feel joy again, I had to let the losses "be real".To not feel loss was to also not feel joy and I have too much in my life to be joyful about.

One of the things I liked about this book is that it does not only address losses due to a death - there are so many losses one can experience - loss of self, loss of family, loss of home.I am grateful to feel myself again and to have learned how to integrate the losses into my life - they must surely are a part of me as much as the joys are.

I have bought this book for many friends and they have had positive results as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awakening from Grief, Fining the Road Back to Joy

John Welshons is an amazing author. His first book, Awakening from Grief, has brought so much peace and healing to my family, friends and myself. With every turn of a page, I felt more and more blessed to have met John and been touched by his gift of healing the soul.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE FINEST BOOK I'VE READ ON THIS SUBJECT!
This book offers us a unique and precious opportunity to open our hearts to the fullness of our human predicament.John Welshons' approach is both incredibly loving, and - at times - breathtakingly honest. He is an extraordinarily gifted writer, a wonderful meditation teacher, and a wise and compassionate counselor. He seems to have a basic trust in our inherent inner strength and wisdom. He skillfully guides us to finding a place of quiet, loving contentment within ourselves in spite of all of the curve-balls life often throws at us.Through sharing some amazing experiences of loss and disappointment in his own life, he demonstrates - repeatedly - how to find real and lasting joy in spite of life's uncertainties. This book is a wonderfully accessible expression of the very same wisdom shared by Stephen Levine, Pema Chodron, and Elisabeth Kubler-Ross . . . in a somewhat less esoteric and more immediately comprehensible form.Awakening from Grief has changed my life.I hope you will allow it to work its magic on you! ...
