Extractions: Over 800 years ago Santa was having a terrible time getting all the gifts for the children. It had been a bad year for Santa as his elves had all reached puberty at the same time. Well, anyway Santa had to work extra hard to prepare all the childrens gifts and he was quite frazzeled when it came time to load the sleigh and begin the long nite of deliveries. Santa was just about to leave for a long nites work when one of his angel helpers came running up to Santa and told him that he had forgotten the Christmas tree for a family in Budapest. Now Santa was quite angry that this tree had been forgotten and said to the angel that it would have to stay behind at the North Pole. The angel then asked Santa what he should do with the Christmas Tree. And that is why that to this day the Angel sits on the top of all Christmas trees!

This is the abridged version of our 24-page Jan. 16th hard copy edition, which contained 30 photographs and 30 news stories, a poems, our bi-weekly local crossword and PAWS, the north's longest running strip cartoon. We are very late posting this. It is February 14, 2001 as I assemble this edition. In mid-January the InterNet provider we had been using collapsed and folded. While our paper was not on line with these people, both the editor and the Sun had their e-mail accounts that company, and it put a crimp in out production. There are two more hard copy editions out as I type these words and I will endeavor to get them both on-line before the next one appears. by Dan Davidson The television camera was running and Mayor Glen Everitt took a bit of a scolding from three of the four other members on council at the January 8 meeting. At issue was the mayor's radio interview of January 5, during which he announced a new initiative to help clean up the problem of packing dogs, which he said had reached serious proportions.

Extractions: Head of the House posted 06-20-2000 08:27 PM I've been collecting children's books since my boyfriend bought me Dr. Seuss' "Fox in Socks" as a present for our first Christmas together. I'm a big fan of anything by Dr. Seuss, or Chris Van Allsberg ... besides the pretty pictures, I also love the way children's stories are so imaginative and fantastical and just plain fun. Anyone else out there still read children's and young adult literature? IP: Logged Dee Dee Subletter posted 06-30-2000 07:18 AM Yes, tons! I have a whole shelf of kids books that are still good to read. From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, Five Children and It, (It is a sand creature that grants them wishes), Little Men, Freaky Friday (much better than the movie) any Dr. Seuss book (especially the Sneetches). Another favorite is The Monster At The End Of This Book (not the version with Elmo in it. He ruins all the suspense.) Alice in Wonderland, Rudyard Kipling short stories, and A. A. Milne Christopher Robin poems. Many of these books have my crayon marks still on them. IP: Logged yeefan

Extractions: "Our Little Angel" Joseph Edilio DeFacci's story begins on February 24, 1993 at 2:10 pm. Our first child came into this world without too much fuss and was instantly loved by his Mommy, Daddy, and all of his family. We knew from the moment Joseph arrived that he was special. Not just because he was our first, but because there was just something special about him. We couldn't quite put our finger on it, but we figured it would come in time. As the months passed, we grew to love him more than we ever thought we could love another human being. We simply adored him. Joey had beautifully expressive eyes (eyelashes that went on and on!) and a terrific disposition. Family and friends would remark on his angelic smile and say, "you are so lucky to have such a wonderful little boy. He hardly ever cries!" In August of 1993, Joey developed a cold and cough. No matter what we did, he just couldn't seem to shake it. He had this awful wheezing cough and kept vomiting up everything he ate. His eyes started to cross and he began having problems keeping weight on. We started seeing a Lung Doctor who started Joey on breathing treatments. Joey also had a reflux problem. The Doctor started him on some medicine and reflux precautions.
Halloween And New Year! the dark, each of the little stalls was lit up, and smiling happily and all the fruitsellers wishing everyone merry christmas. The stuff of childrens stories. http://www.belgan.freeserve.co.uk/celebrate.html
Extractions: England really goes to town with festive season celebrations. Okay, by Christmas you're sick of Christmas already, but it's still really nice. We went down to the village fruit and vegetable market on Christmas eve to buy some some last minute supplies - in the dark, each of the little stalls was lit up, and there were ladies selling wreaths of holly, mistletoe and everyone bundled up against the cold and smiling happily and all the fruit sellers wishing everyone merry christmas. The stuff of childrens stories. ... and Ingrid also munches away happily. Peter and I went home feeling like giant squid ... YUM! We also saw some excellent fireworks from the windows - New Years in London is like WWII with all the crackers going off. Oh - and watching all the Millenium celebrations on TV, Paris won the show by far, in our opinion - beautifully coreographed.

BookPage Children's Review: Children's Holiday Book Roundup rich colors and poetic language to tell three stories within the bright lights inmemory of that first christmas night when the world was lit with glory http://www.bookpage.com/9712bp/childrens/holidaybookroundup.html
Extractions: Review by Jan Keeling Children's books for this holiday season are filled with light of one kind or another. These eight holiday books for children use text and illustrations to serve several of literature's time-honored purposes: to warn against extinguishing light, and to help readers see what is important about themselves and about things that are larger than themselves. "S ilent Night" by Will Moses is a charming depiction of Christmas in an old-time Vermont village. Yes, the artist/author is a descendent of beloved folk painter Anna Mary Robertson Moses, better known as Grandma Moses; in fact, he is her great-grandson and has carried on her folk art tradition by developing his own folk style and becoming internationally famous in his own right. In "Silent Night," the first stanza of the hymn is spread across the tops of the pages, with the full text of the original story by Moses beneath. Moses' tale revolves around an earthly human event that echoes the ancient hymn: the birth of a Christmas baby. Young readers will delight most of all in the illustrations, whose bright colors and details exemplify the best of folk art there is so much to look at in these paintings, so much to see! Extractions: Daniel 'Chip' Ciammaichella W ow, this Christmas stuff is really neat. I've been watching my family scurry around for weeks, just to get ready for this one, beautiful, magical morning. I've never seen anything like this before, and even though Mom and Dad try to explain it all to me and have told me wonderful Christmas stories, I'm not sure I understand it. I'm Sam, and although I've been around the block a few times, I must admit this is the first time I've ever encountered this thing called Christmas. I've been on this earth for over 10 months and thought I knew it all. Now I find I'm not quite as worldly as I thought. Eh, live and learn. Discovering new things is the spice of life and boy have I been discovering things lately. Who'd have thought you could plant a tree right inside the house? I'd always thought something was missing in the living room and when Dad brought that tree in, I knew what it was! What a great place for a tree. And what a tree it is. Sure, I'm no tree expert, but I've been around my share and I've never seen a tree like this. It's green and fluffy, and reaches almost to the ceiling. As great as that tree would be by itself, the family immediately began to decorate it.
