Product Description

Offering invaluable sightseeing tips, advice on fun activities, and detailed descriptions of campgrounds, this grand tour of Mexico’s Baja Peninsula provides both RV and tent campers with the best resources for planning a vacation chock-full of beachcombing, back-roads exploring, golf, fishing, whale watching, and water sports. The tour centers around one of the most interesting highways in the world—a two-lane ribbon of asphalt winding southward to Cabo San Lucas, from the Pacific Ocean to the Sea of Cortez and back again—and includes important information on border crossings, document requirements, vehicle preparation, and road conditions. In addition to describing the formal campgrounds of Baja—and featuring location maps, recreational opportunities, lists of facilities, and driving instructions from nearby towns and routes—this guide also provides telephone numbers, websites, e-mail addresses, GPS coordinates, and picture icons that offer a convenient, quick review of each campground.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of choices and inside info
Get this book and you'll be leaving on your trip in no time. Complete logistical guide with an overview of everything you'll need from border info, gas, ATM's, etc makes it incredibly easy. Set off using their sample itinerary or just hit the road and find the right campground in each region. On a given night, you can choose from a rustic boondock to a full service RV park using the services and pricing key and complete descriptions included with each campground. As a testament to the quality of this book, ask every gringo you see while in Baja what's in their library and I bet 99% of them have a dog-eared copy of this book on the seat next to them. We even pulled into Campo #5 overlooking La Bufadora (check our site in my profile for a trip report) and the 8 year-old kid collecting our $6 said "Tengo el mismo libro" - even he had the book!

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good guide
It has almost everything what is necessary. Need to have info about cell phone coverage in Baja.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thorough and detailed guidebook
Although this book is definitely oriented toward RV camping, it is extremely thorough and detailed with much better information about Baja campgrounds than is included in general travel guides. We tent camped in Baja for two weeks and used this book extensively, and we were never disappointed with the quality of the information. The authors very helpfully give a bit of the flavor/atmosphere of each campground, and include other very useful information about gas stations, side trips, nearby attractions, etc. I would definitely purchase another guidebook in this series!

3-0 out of 5 stars Should be titled RV camping in Mexico.
All in all not a bad guidebook but definitely geared towards RV camping. We spent our time camping in tents and on beaches and this guidebook left a little to be desired.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product for Baja Travelers
We recommend this to anyone who camps in the Baja! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Biography of a landscape architect
This is an excellent book detailing the life and works of one of Americas most important landscape architects. There is more information than you could possibly need about his youth, his training, his business, his philosophies and his projects. There are excellent photographs of his works which explain so much more than can be described by the written word. Recommended for students, professionals and those interested in learning about the man himself and his works. This is not a coffee table book. ... Read more

Product Description

In the mid-1960s, the charismatic César Chávez led members of California's La Causa movement in boycotting the grape harvest, and melon pickers in South Texas called a strike against growers, contesting unfair labor and wage practices in both states.

In Farm Workers and the Churches, Alan J. Watt shows how the religious and social contexts of the farm workers, their leaders, and the larger society helped or hindered these two pivotal actions.
Watt explores the ways in which liberal expressions of Northern Protestantism, transplanted to California and combined with the pro-labor wing of the Catholic Church and the heritage of Mexican popular piety, provided a fertile field for the growth of broad support for Chávez and his organizing efforts. Eventually, La Causa was able to achieve collective bargaining victories, including a historic labor contract between California agribusiness and farm workers.

The movement did not fare as well in Texas, where the combination of a locally weak union leadership, a more conservative Southern Protestant ethos, and the strikebreaking measures of the Texas Rangers all boded ill. However, a general Chicano/a movement ultimately took permanent root in the state, because of the workers' struggle.

Watt offers a careful examination of the complex interactions among religious traditions, social heritage, and ethnicity as these factors affected the course and outcomes of these two pioneering campaigns undertaken by La Causa.

Product Description
Graced with original artwork, historical art renderings and color contemporary photos, this exquisite book written by Msgr. Francis J. Weber of the Los Angeles Archdiocese tells the story of the twenty-one Alta California missions established along El Camino Real, the 142 Spanish friars who administered them and the native peoples who were brought into the fold of Christianity and Spanish culture. This history of the missions begins with the founding of Mission San Diego de Alcala in 1769 and ends with the establishment of the Church hierarchy over both Alta and Baja California in 1840. Written in a style directed to inquisitive students, casual readers and even serious scholars, this treatise helps the reader understand the story of the missions within the context of the times and areas in which they existed and in the values of those who staffed and supported them. ... Product Description
Co-published by T. Adler Books and the wave-rider's Bible, The Surfer's Journal, this deluxe collection of mostly previously-unpublished vintage surfing photographs by the cult surf documentarian, Ron Church, offers a glimpse into the last moments of a small and innocent brand of west coast surf culture before it became swallowed up by today's wave jockeying, plastic surfboards and manufactured surf wear, to say nothing of the surf media. Church, who died at age 39 in 1973, was an amateur surfer himself, as well as an adventurer and a cameraman with the deep-sea explorer, Jacques Cousteau. In photographing his peers, Church preferred to paddle out with his waterproof equipment, shooting low to the water and far from shore, as if he were stalking a population of fantastic, water-walking sea creatures rather than marveling over specimens of a funky new kind of athleticism. He was among the earliest photographers to take a professional interest in the sport from any angle. In order to assemble this volume, publisher Tom Adler scoured Church's long-defunct proof sheet binders, maintained for decades by his widow. Provoked by their sheer volume, Adler selected the more offbeat moments from Church's multi-image studies, piecing together an evocative, often moody collection. ... Read more
