Product Description
For the first time, a book exists that compiles all the information candidates need to apply for their first Aerospace Engineer, Aerospace Product and Parts Manufacturing Services job, or to apply for a better job.

What you'll find especially helpful are the worksheets. It is so much easier to write about a work experience using these outlines. It ensures that the narrative will follow a logical structure and reminds you not to leave out the most important points. With this book, you'll be able to revise your application into a much stronger document, be much better prepared and a step ahead for the next opportunity.

The book comes filled with useful cheat sheets. It helps you get your career organized in a tidy, presentable fashion. It also will inspire you to produce some attention-grabbing cover letters that convey your skills persuasively and attractively in your application packets.

After studying it, too, you'll be prepared for interviews, or you will be after you conducted the practice sessions where someone sits and asks you potential questions. It makes you think on your feet!

This book makes a world of difference in helping you stay away from vague and long-winded answers and you will be finally able to connect with prospective employers, including the one that will actually hire you.

This book successfully challenges conventional job search wisdom and doesn't load you with useful but obvious suggestions ("don't forget to wear a nice suit to your interview," for example). Instead, it deliberately challenges conventional job search wisdom, and in so doing, offers radical but inspired suggestions for success.

Think that "companies approach hiring with common sense, logic, and good business acumen and consistency?" Think that "the most qualified candidate gets the job?" Think again! Time and again it is proven that finding a job is a highly subjective business filled with innumerable variables. The triumphant jobseeker is the one who not only recognizes these inconsistencies and but also uses them to his advantage. Not sure how to do this? Don't worry-How to Land a Top-Paying Aerospace Engineer, Aerospace Product and Parts Manufacturing Services Job guides the way.

Highly recommended to any harried Aerospace Engineer, Aerospace Product and Parts Manufacturing Services jobseeker, whether you want to work for the government or a company. You'll plan on using it again in your efforts to move up in the world for an even better position down the road.

This book offers excellent, insightful advice for everyone from entry-level to senior professionals. None of the other such career guides compare with this one. It stands out because it: 1) explains how the people doing the hiring think, so that you can win them over on paper and then in your interview; 2) has an engaging, reader-friendly style; 3) explains every step of the job-hunting process - from little-known ways for finding openings to getting ahead on the job.

This book covers everything. Whether you are trying to get your first Aerospace Engineer, Aerospace Product and Parts Manufacturing Services Job or move up in the system, get this book. ... Read more

Product Description
The career of one of the USA's most colourful aviationists is told by his son, drawing on the extensive family photography collection and four months of taping his father's reminiscences during an exhilarating period in American aviation history. From the days of landing in open corn fields with the wind at his face to blind instrument landings in a snowstorm, E.L. "Slonnie" Sloniger was behind the controls of an airplane, open cockpit or closed. Slonnie looped the loop over Nebraska, averted bandits to deliver payrolls in Mexico, and served as an aviation ambassador, inaugurating commercial flight in China. As a pursuit pilot, barnstormer, racer, test pilot, acrobatic pilot, and, ultimately a commercial pilot, Slonnie grew with aviation. Slonnie learned to fly when he entered the heavier-than-air division of the army, because he "just didn't want to walk" and served in the Air Service in WWI. Upon his return to the US, Slonnie bought his own plane, a Curtiss JN-4 "Canuck", and became a barnstormer, selling rides in small towns across the Middle western plains. He flew for early airlines when the biggest customer was the US mail and saw the beginnings of the major lines.Slonnie was the original senior pilot, Number One, for American Airlines and flew for them for twenty years. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One Pilot's Log
Superb, stunning book on the beginnings of commercial aviation and the life of Jerrold Sloniger.I knew the author, a motor sports journalist, but had no idea of his father's legacy.Jerry wrote the book as a tribute to his father and his father's life; even if aviation isn't your cause for living it's an excellent read covering aviation following WWI and how the airlines of today began.

4-0 out of 5 stars Old Number One
If you've heard of E.L. Sloniger chances are it's because you read about him in one of Ernest K. Gann's fine books such as "Flying Circus", "A Hostage to Fortune" or his masterpiece,"Fate is the Hunter"."Slonnie" was known as "OldNumber One" because he was the first official airline pilot withAmerican Airlines and had the seniority number of 1.Gann revered him asdid many others because he was the finest and most experienced airtransport pilot in the world. This book will tell you all you ever wantedto know about him.It traces his long flying career from learning to flyin the army during WW1 to barnstorming, flying the mail and pioneering theairlines including over ocean flights, to his retirement in the latefifties.Seeing as how Gann had written so much about Sloniger I washoping there would besomething about Gann in the book also, but Gann isonly mentioned a few times in passing which was a big disappointment to me. It would have been as interesting to hear Sloniger talk about Gann as itwas to hear Gann talk about Sloniger.Alas, it was not to be.Other thanthat the book is very well done, interesting, reads fast and has lots ofpictures. If you want to know more about "Old Number One" thisis the book.If you want to hear about his adventures with Ernie Gann youwill be diappointed. ... Product Description
"David Schnebly, a man whose long experience transcends diverse segments of the technology spectrum, tells a comprehensive and realistic story of aerospace, and related research and development management.

His wide Glimpse of the high technology R & D world and his frank presentations on key issues surrounding that arena, reflect a true appreciation on the intricacies and pulse of the industrial R & D activities.

Although the book casts a critical eye on government procurement bureaucracies and their methods, as well as on the current industrial merger trends, it also reflects on the basic differences between government and commercially sponsored research and development. The stories contained in the narrative depict how it really is in the R & D world.

Although not a textbook, 'A Greenhouse Anthology' lays out sound guidelines and techniques for the management of R & D; a subject rarely addressed in the management literature."

5-0 out of 5 stars Army-Lockheed YO-3A
I was crew chief on the Army-Lockheed YO-3A in Vietnam 1970-71.The 9 planes operating in Vietnam were silent and only operated at night. They were never shot down or took a round. This will come as a surprise to many, but the YO-3A had a 2nd generation NVAP (night vision scope,) infrared illuminator and a laser target designator. Non of these aircraft ever took a round or were shot down in 14 months of operation during the Vietnam War.This was the only Lockheed Missiles and Space Corporation airplane ever built. It was also the only airplane that was built specifically for the U.S. Army. After Vietnam, 2 of the planes, 006 and 007 effectively operated for the Louisiana Wild Life and Fisheries to nap illegal shrimpers. The planes were then acquired by the FBI and were used in the Patty Hearst case and other kidnapping and extortion cases.NASA still operates one YO-3A for rotorcraft acoustic research.YO-3A 69-18007 is undergoing restoration to flight status at Cable Airport, Upland California.Check out these websites for more information: www.yo-3a.com, www.prizecrew.org, www.quietaircraft.org ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Introductory Book
I wanted to learn the basics of gas turbines and found this book to be excellent. It has a lot photographs and cross-sections.The book discusses and explains a lot of the terminology that I needed to learn.I highly recommend this to anyone interested in the subject.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Book for Technicians

This is an outstanding book by a knowledgeable author that provides the basic know-how and skills that a technician who maintains or just wants to learn or study aircraft gas turbine engines will find useful and helpful. The book is well written in a readable and easy to follow format that provides the reader with a comprehensive overview of jet propulsion. The author clearly presents the concepts and principles of modern gas turbine engines with no complicated formulas.

The reader will learn the various components of a gas turbine engine including the intake design, compressors, turbines, combustion chamber designs, and the jet pipe and how thrust is produced as well as the modern maintenance, repair and overhaul techniques and philosophies.

The book has great explanations, diagrams and figures that the reader will find useful and helpful. I recommend the book not only to technicians but also to beginning aeronautical and mechanical engineering students who need a basic but comprehensive understanding of gas turbine engines and how they are maintained.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Book
This is a very good book for gas turbine engine technology. It is helpful over the whole subject, but having detailed sections of individual engines (really the best sellers) was an extra bonus. It's in my work bookcase, one of only a few.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect
This book is what you need if you want to know HOW aircraft engines are made. Since it's thought for technicians, it doesn'cover (almost) at all thermodynamics, no math, just a few basic physical principles on aircraft gas turbines. This is the real point: more photos, shematics, diagrams then equations (rigor mortis).

You will learn how are Gas Turbines made, what kind of engine is currently being used in what kind of aircraft, how is the fuel system made, plus a much more.

Buy it without esitation.

5-0 out of 5 stars A compelling reference souce
This volume is the best publication for aeronautical gas turbine technology. It is a powerful tool as a reference and as a didactic implement.

Theory. The development of theory is quite simple and straightforward. Being intended for technicians, the mathematical level is really easy, nevertheless the associated phenomenons are solidly explained. If the reader is looking for a more advanced maths dissection, he has to search a different book, conversely this treatment is the best complement to theoretical study: here concepts came alive and the mathematical set of solutions to equations are translated in real stuff.

Materials and technical evaluation. The edition copes with the advanced techniques introduced in more recent designs and products. The previous editions were full of excerpts from manufacturer pubblications or other technical papers, the current one is enriched by new illustrations and detailed explanations ofadvanced research. Drawings and graphs were the best facets of former editions and still they are, literally boosting reader's learning curve.

Engines. A wide selection of engines is avalable as examples, each one deeply dissected, showing typical arrangements and design solutions. This accurate study of construcion details and manufacturing techniques is explanatory since it shows the real article as designed, produced and maintained, focusing on each part functionality and it is real as it gets! ... Product Description
Since the last edition of "Abc Air Traffic Control" in 2005 there have been many changes in the air traffic control industry in the UK and UK-related airways. Air traffic has continued to increase rapidly resulting in more complex air traffic control systems which have to meet demand, as well as fulfilling safety and environment regulations. Covering current issues facing the air traffic control industry, the author looks at the establishment of the new London Control Center at Swanwick in the beginning of 2008, and the problematic congestion plaguing the UK skies, particularly in the busy Southeast. As a result, National Air Traffic Services, which took over from the Civil Airliner Authority in 2001 following partial privatization of the industry, is consulting with the CAA about redrawing the aircraft route map over the southeast of England to alleviate this problem. Graham Duke is an authority in the study of Air Traffic Control and has been writing these useful pocket guides since the very first edition in 1984. In this latest volume he covers all the latest developments within the industry, explaining the structure of the system and the regulations controlling it in a straightforward manner, with a window into military air traffic control systems as well. Alongside this wider picture, intimate details are also revealed about the operations of ground control, the communications systems in the aircraft flying, the standard modes of communication, and airport procedures. The North Atlantic system and other aeronautical information such as charts, weather and airfield data are explained, as well as a full assessment of future developments. This is the essential handbook for anyone interested in civil aviation and the operation of modern air traffic control practice. ... Read more

Product Description
A classic American tale of ingenuity and hard work, guts and glory

For more than a decade some of the world's most powerful defense companies have raced to launch the first low-earth-orbit commercial satellites. The prize? An explosive global market for personal communications worth billions of dollars. Fresh out of Harvard Business School, David Thompson entered the fray with an insane idea: to build his own rockets, satellites, and a multi-million-dollar corporation that could go head to head against the big guys. The story of his electrifying grab for the heavens-huge start-up costs, mind-blowing technical obstacles, and dark tangos with investors-is told by acclaimed writer Gary Dorsey, who was there reporting from inside. Silicon Sky reads like fast-paced fiction, and traces the advent not just of a single company but of a quickly emerging technological industry.

Silicon Sky: How One Small Start-Up Went Over the Top to Beatthe Big Boys won the 1999 award for Distinguished LiteraryContribution" from IEEE (Institute of Electrical and ElectronicsEngineers, Inc.).Amazon.com Review
Gary Dorsey's Silicon Sky tells the engrossing tale ofa private company's quest to develop the world's first low-earth-orbitcommercial satellite--a momentous accomplishment that paved the wayfor everything from reasonably priced GPS navigational receivers topay-at-the-pump credit-card terminals at filling stations. Dorseytackles the true story of the emerging world of "microspace" in amanner reminiscent of Tracy Kidder's pioneering The Soul of a NewMachine, using an interesting combination of first-handobservations, critical analysis, and literary techniques usually foundin novels. By sticking close to Orbital Sciences Corporation'sextensive cast of characters working in the early design stages in1992 through the product launch in 1995, Dorsey brings readers intothe labs and boardrooms as the fledgling operation grows into abooming company that entered 1998 with $3.9 billion in orders alreadyin its books. --Howard Rothman ... As someone who worked at the 'old' OSC during the time that this book covers, I knew a lot of the characters portrayed here and am acquainted with the Orbcomm story. It's not only accurate but it also tells a lot moreabout the engineering team and the management of the project than mostpeople in the company knew at the time. Some people fault the book for onlycovering the time period to the '95 launch, but for the three criticalyears of the start-up's story, he captures every significant facet. I'msure some engineers might not be happy with how they're portrayed, but thisis not a technical book. As a story about entrepreneurial guts and theessence of engineering it's one of the best. The recent award from IEEE washighly deserved.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beyond Nerd Chic...
One of the most inspiring business books of the past year tells how a little company full of big ideas, Virginia-based Orbital Sciences Corp., got into the business of putting commercial satellites into space. InSilicon Sky: How One Small Start-Up Went Over the Top to Beat the Big Boysinto Satellite Heaven, author Gary Dorsey chronicles the progress of a pipedream as it has evolved into a company with 1998 revenues of $734 million.Orbital founder David Thompson gave Dorsey unfettered access to thecompany's inner workings -- from the beginning of its efforts to design acommercially viable communications satellite in 1992 through the firstlaunch in 1995. The author clearly identifies with Thompson'sentrepreneurial ardor, contrasting Orbital's culture of discovery with the'feudal,' unimaginative culture of old-line aerospace companies addicted togovernment contracts. What Dorsey lacks in objectivity, he makes up for inclarity. From his fly-on-the-wall perch, sitting in on company meetings andpeering over the shoulders of workers in the lab, he has observed anddistilled into concise prose the details that made Orbital's successpossible. Dorsey explains the technology behind the business so fluidlythat it hardly seems like rocket science. BOOKPAGE, June 1990 REVIEW BY E.THOMAS WOOD

2-0 out of 5 stars The incomplete and microscopic look at Orbital
Having worked at Orbitalduring the period this book covers, I was shocked at the inconsistency throughout this book. The author writes as an authority on Orbital, but in reality, he has had a very small slice ofinsight into what went on during that time.Critical events affecting thecompany as a whole which almost everyone at the company would know aboutdid not show up in this book. For instance, two highly publicized failuresof the Pegasus Rocket which occurred prior to the flight of Orbcomm werenot even discussed. These failures definitely had some impact to theOrbcomm project. When you talk about Orbital, you talk about an end to endspace company. That includes building the satellite, launching it, andproviding the infrastructure to control it.The attempt was made atgetting this across, but it really did not do justice to that topic.Thebook should be described as the incomplete history of the design of asatellite, not a history of Orbital.I do have to say that managementpersonalites were described rather accurately. The engineers in the storyare really depicted as an inexperienced bunch of kids who came right out ofschool with their "license to learn" (degree) and were directedto design a satellite system with nothing but their egos.Quite a bit ofthe book describes the long hours they worked and the stress involved ingetting it done. This wasn't a superhuman abnormality in the engineeringworld at Orbital, as the author would lead you to believe. He could havetold us about it in maybe 3 sentences, not 300+ pages. With that out of theway, the author could have brought this history of Orbcomm into recenthistory, instead of stopping before the constellation was launched.Insummary, I have to say this book was a big disappointment. It doesn't dojustice to Orbital or provide a consistent picture of the Orbcommconstellation development.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disjointed, poorly written, and disappointing.
I agree completely with the reader from Monument, CO. This book was very disjointed and poorly written. The only favorable reviews I see on this page are from people involved in the satellite business. One five starrating comes from a guy who has not read the book! This book pales incomparison to one of my favorites, "The Soul of a New Machine",by Tracy Kidder. The characters in Silicon Sky are sketchy and at timessuperficial. For example, all we really learn about Grace is that she singspop songs while walking and loves to get in the face of the contractmanufacturers - even though she was apparently an engineer of someimportance. Dorsey also does a rather poor job at documenting how varioustechnical obstacles are overcome. How exactly was the "last greatobstacle", the problem with the satellite's batteries overcome? We'llnever know. The last thing Dorsey talks about is some experiments with somemysterious shielding material. Did the material work? Or did the engineershave to come up with something else? Instead we are treated to coverage ofengineers howling when they found out their board does not work because theMCU is placed wrong. I've designed boards for embedded systems for years. The only time I've had an error of this nature I found I had mislabled theboard's silkscreen. Takes a tech about three minutes to fix with a hot-airrework station. Sorry, I really wanted to like this book. But it appearsthat Dorsey does not have enough technical expertise to determine therelative importance of projects and engineers to really make this aninformative and entertaining book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Accurate portrayal of people and technology
It is almost invariable that stories that I have personal knowledge of are conveyed with glaring errors and omissions.I am happy to say that Gary Dorsey's book is a notable exception.

I joined Orbital in 1996 and workedon the subsequent Orbcomm constellation, which started after the completionof the book.Of the principals who worked on the original Orbcomm andstayed for the constellation development, Mr. Dorsey captures the characterof each with incredible precision.Mr. Dorsey also gets the technicaldetails right. He has a real knack for picking up how engineers talk toeach other and how technical problems penetrate their equilibrium.

Myonly issue with the book is that it's episodic in nature and fails tofollow specific technical problems and their human actors to resolution. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars concise but outdated floppy
the book is excellent for reviewing Sabre reservations system, but for almost $100, the price I paid, it was VERY disappointing to see it came with a very outdated floppy, which did not work on my computer and which did not work onthree other computers (all with floppy disk capability).A DVD should be available instead. For this reason alone, I would have returned it, but I had already written on the book!Although it was expertly written for someone NEW to the Sabre system, I don't recommend it just for the floppy disk situation alone.Too expensive.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good coverage of Sabre system, but needs updating
This book is a great source to self teach Sabre if you have some experience in the travel industry. If not, it looks like the book would be a great text book to go along with a learning class. The simulated diskhelps you practice what you've learned. Very complete coverage, but anup-to-date version is really needed here. Overall good source to learnSabre system. ... Read more

Product Description
Biz Jets: Technology and Market Structure in the CorporateJet Aircraft Industry traces the development of business jetaircraft from the mid-1950s through early 1993. It begins with adiscussion of the technological and market opportunities existing inthe period prior to the introduction of the Lockheed JetStar and theNorth American Sabreliner. The subsequent appearances of other bizjets -- the Learjets, HS-125s, Jet Commanders, Falcons, Gulfstreams,Citations, Challengers, Mitsubishis and derivative aircraft aretreated in considerable detail.Biz Jets also covers 'planesinvolved in many unsuccessful attempts to enter the industry from 1955through 1993.The study shows that while the industry has been quite concentratedthroughout its history, the positions of the leading firms have alwaysbeen contestable. Indeed, leaders at one point in time have often beendisplaced by others who succeeded in marshalling technological andmarket opportunities to their advantage. Manufacturers have had toundertake continuous efforts to improve the price-performancecharacteristics of their aircraft to gain and hold their marketshares. Rivalries in the effective use of the stream of new technologies havebrought forth new aircraft with both better performance and loweroperating costs. At the same time, however, participation in themarket has been extremely risky. Only a few companies have been ableto earn profits. Entries, exits and mergers have altered the structureof the industry, but it remained decidedly unstable at least through1992. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Incomplete
Good book, but my order was incomplete.According to the product description, there was supposed to be a student study guide included. The main text was the only thing included in my order.I would have given a 5 star review, but that's hard to do when you get jipped out of half of the product.Things like this keep me from wanting to order online.I use to shop with Amazon pretty regularly, but problems such as this seem to happen more often than they use to.There is a lot to be said for the personal service you get at a brick and mortar store, that's all I'm saying. If you don't need the study guide (I do, I'm enrolled in an aviation technology program), and you don't mind buying from a misleading seller, go for it.I, however, intend to take my future business elsewhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars Aircraft Electricity and Electronics
A very informative text for a person to learn on, that is in basic laymen terms to understand and comprehend.WJD

3-0 out of 5 stars Helpful and good reference but definitely outdated...
This is still a good addition to your library as a reference; it is of little use if you are installing a panel or instruments.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time
I have this book and it sits on my bookself collecting dust. It was a required text for school and I could never use it.It is poorly laid out and the descriptions of the systems are not in depth enough to actually give you a decent understanding of the material. The systems are out dated with current technology unless you are a general aviation mechanic. For the few systems that are in detail, the writer makes it very difficult for the beginning student to understand. When I taught I tried to lead the other students through the text and I found it easier to just use the book as a door stop than a teaching tool. The rest of the books in this series are wonderful, but I would never use this one again.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book on Theory but...
This is a great book on theory, but if you're a kit aircraft builder like me, it doesn't have enough specific "how to" information.A great resource to go along with this book is "The Aeroelectric Connection", not available on Amazon as of the writing of this review. It has all the information you need to know about to wire your aircraft; tools, supplies, and the most valuable of all: wiring diagrams for every possible configuration. ... Excellent value for money and one of the few books that cover the topic of what you do after you obtain your Commercial licence. Indeed, that should read what you do BEFORE you obtain your Commercial pilots licence.Usingthe information in 'Job Hunting' I managed to obtain a first job floatplane position before I even had the float endorsement and that was inaddition to being on the north side of age 40.Now working as a FlightInstructor I recommend 'Job Hunting' to Commercial students as both a guideto getting that all important first job and as a bible of inspiration thatsays, Yes, you too can get a flying job if you follow the tips in Brown'sbook.
