5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent First Introduction
This little book is one of a series of books being published by Thomson Gale to provide young people with a better understanding of what their future would hold as they decide on a career.

Although the general field of publishing covers a wide range from the local newspaper to magazines and everything else, this book really concentrates on book publishing. This is a profession in the midst of drastic change as new technologies emerge. No one yet knows what the internet is going to do to publishing. As you read this, you are getting the information that was published on the net, displaying it, and reading about a book published using olf fashioned dead trees. In spite of the changes, the industry published a record of about 175,000 new books and revised editions in 2003. The industry is growing, particularly among the publishers who fill small niche markets. This is causing a demand for people in virtually all aspects of publishing.

The book concentrates on those jobs that are unique to publishing. The people in more general professions from accounting to janitorial remain the same in the publishing industry. The book has chapters on:

The Writer
The Literary Agent
The Editor
The Book Designer
The Sales Representative.

It gives a very good summary of these jobs, including such sage advice as just because you are writing, don't quit your day job. You can only say so much in a book describing an industry, you don't know how much detail to include. This is an excellent first introduction.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have for Young Writers
Publishing is written for young people considering going into the business of creating books. From writer to sales rep, this book covers the publishing industry in a clear stlye. Throughout are pictures and quotes from famous writers and professionals in each of the different publishing fields. Though written with young adults in mind, I recommend Publishing: Careers for the Twenty-First Century to anyone considering or just beginning in any area of the publishing business. ... Read more

Snowblind is an all-out, nonstop, and now classic look at thecocaine trade through the eyes of smuggler Zachary Swan. In a briefRoman-candle career, Swan served an elegant clientele, travelingbetween Bogota and the nightclubs of New York, inventing intricatescams to outmaneuver the feds. 5-0 out of 5 stars Top Book
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant! Having read an assortment of books on this topic, I'd say SNOWBLIND is unmatched, read it. If you like COCAINE COWBOYS and SCARFACE films this is a book you'll also enjoy thoroughly. High quality writing filled with inventive smuggling, humor, cunning, crime and it's a joy to read!

Sabbag's best novel so far. I've read all the others by him.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excelllent!
Sabbag is an excellent writer, the book is a fast read; much detail about the cocaine trade in the 70-80's.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I thought this book was a really neat read. The story tells one mans journey through the cocaine trade. The story catches you from a two angles. First the look into world of drug smuggling and smugglers and second the charaters in the story and how their lives are chnaged and different because of their connection with the drug world

5-0 out of 5 stars snow blind
This is one of the best books ever written about drug smuggling. Double crosses are the norm with ingenious smuggling scams. Sometimes written tongue in cheek the book details many ways and means to import drugs into the country. Although these ways and means are out of date today they nonetheless capture the spirit and ingenuity of drug smugglers.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good story....Horribly told
I dont often review...actually this is my first. True crime is my favorite genre, so I have read many. This story sounded good from the review's. I question myself, because only one other reviewer came close to what I felt from this book. The author goes on and on and on describing things to the point that i kept forgetting what he was talking about. I also must admit to you I did not finish this book. For me a book is about pleasure and passing the time, even forgetting about time. I felt as if I was struggling to read this book. ... Read more
