I am happy with the product, and it was a quick delivery.
Thanks

1-0 out of 5 stars Doo doo
This book is DOO DOO!I bought it hoping it would tell me how to take care of my newly purchased chameleon and maybe tips on breeding. All it talks about is how they live in the wilderness.LIKE I CARE?!?!

3-0 out of 5 stars my thoughts
i think that it covered too many species in such a small book it wasnt detailed enough on each species.it would be much better if it had more categories for sections of particular species e.g. feeding your veiled chameleon etc

3-0 out of 5 stars The word here is "BROAD".
To start, this book seemed to be filled with a lot of information at first. Then after a while, I realized that it contained nothing useful to me, because I was looking for very detailed and specific information on Vieled Chameleons and this book only had a broad overview on the physical characteristics, and the care section was 5 pages long. Not a bad book for a overview. Not a good book for details.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Treasure for Children and Adults
I love the delicate, intricate and surprising photos in this book--I keep going back to the one of the Jackson greeting the morning, as well as the one delighting in the rain. This is a book about the hidden glory of life, about the beautywe often miss because we are moving too fast. You have to slow down to glimpse a Jackson. You have to be patient. Thankfully Mary Lovein has the patience, the passion, the vision and the skill to bring the unusual beauty of the Jackson Chameleon to the page. This is an excellent and unique gift book, a treasure for children and adults, that will be read again and again.

5-0 out of 5 stars You won'tbe disappointed...
You can feel the love of chams in every word and in every picture.
It's a fun book, entertaining, informative, inspirational.
Thank you, Mary Lovein, for bringing such a delightful book into
the world.

5-0 out of 5 stars AMAZING IMAGES OF JACKSONS CHAMELEONS!!
I also own CHAMELEONS IN THE GARDEN, and I have been priviledged to visit Mary's garden many times!!Mary's sanctuary, perched on the side of Hualalai volcano, is a special and totally natural haven for the residing chameleons. Jacksons Chameleons came to Hawaii totally legally, and have survived in this special environment, which is fortunate -- because they're in danger of extinction in their native Kenya.Hawaii is the last bastion of hope for this species, and Mary's Garden, an especially special enclave for these wonderful creatures. No one should miss the opportunity to observe these magical creatures, and Mary's book is the next best thing to being there.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Photography
Fantastic depth and color on each page of the this fine "coffee table" book. Mary Lovein has a way of capturing unreal colors in nature. The pages are thick and glossy. Most pictures are set in a deep black background, that brings out rich color.
You don't have to love chameleons to love this book. ... Read more

Product Description
From the author of The Devil's Feather comes a haunting psychological thriller about a scarred Iraq war veteran whose physical trauma may reflect the inner turmoil of a killer.

Somewhere in the endless, deadly desert between Basra and Baghdad, Lieutenant Charles Acland's convoy was attacked. Recovering in the hospital, Charles is crippled by migraines and suspicious of his doctors. He grows uncharacteristically aggressive, particularly against women. Rejecting cosmetic surgery, he moves to London. There he sinks into a quagmire of guilt and paranoia—until an outburst of irrational, vicious anger brings him to the attention of the local police, who are investigating three recent murders. Now under suspicion, Charles is forced to confront his issues before it's too late, but the shadowy forces working against him—or in him—could be more than he can overcome. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Minette Walters is at the top of my author list for her genre - psychological thrillers - although that label vastly underrates her work and her talent. I have read all of her books, (except the Devils' Feather), and have yet to be disappointed - this book being no exception. The Chameleon's Shadow tracks the recovery of a British soldier, horribly injured and disfigured by an IED in Iraq and the pursuit of a serial killer of older gentlemen in London. These two narratives begin in parallel but inevitably tie together to become one and the same. The story line, which is compelling, is not the key here. This book is driven - just as in Walters' other works - by the characters - their lives, challenges, imperfections - and in a word they become very "real" to the reader.

These characters include Charles, our protagonist, a deeply troubled man after his return from Iraq, having lost two of his crew and the sight in his right eye. He can be quick to anger at times, while stoic and oddly repressed at others. He is prone to severe migraines, eats very little and is a loner, straight-arming anyone who attempts to help or befriend him. He wallows in self-pity when the military won't take him back due to his injuries - but somehow he is still likeable. His ex-fiancée is manipulative, self-centered and believes she's Uma Thurman. Charles' therapist is introspective, wise and detached. The police superintendant pursuing the serial killer is quick to judge, unsentimental and driven. The key suspect/witness for the old man murders is a snot-nosed spoiled brat with a whiney mother and he has retained an obstructionist, pain in the ass attorney.

This all sounds predictable, formulaic, and maybe even dull. This book is anything but. I can't do the book justice without spoiling it for you. There are no car chases, hostages, time bombs or gun fights but I wasn't able to put this one down once I started it.

3-0 out of 5 stars I heart Minette Walters
I won't give a plot summary since that has already been done here. What I will give is my opinion that Walters is an amazing writer. I found this book to be interesting and absorbing, all else fell away and I was "in" this book until the last page. I will admit that I was so disappointed in the conclusion that I did take off a star. I think that had anyone else written this book I would have been fine with it, but Walters set the bar so high in Acid Row and The Shape of Snakes that maybe I came into it with unrealistic expectations. That being said, with all of lifes distractions and all the other entertainments available (internet, Tivo etc.)any book that is able to draw you into that magical place where nothing exsists but you and the world the author has created is a job well done. If you are on the fence about buying this book, I hope you decide to go ahead and give it a try. Time spent in Minette Walters world is time well spent.

3-0 out of 5 stars She's among the best, but this is among her worst
As a huge Walters fan, I was disappointed by this weak offering. Charles Acland is a wounded Iraqi War vet whose face is mutilated, but I missed Walters' customary intelligent rendering of the divide between perception and reality. Acland is never treated as a monster because of his hideous injuries--in fact, no one seems to see them. The secrets his ex girlfriend is keeping are too swiftly revealed to be as compelling as I had hoped, and his parental issues stay too far in the background. Enlivening the story is a marvelously depicted GP named Jackson who has all of the insecurity, bravado, pluck, and realism that makes Walters' troubled souls so marvelously compelling. Rather than a stay-up-all-night thrill ride like her earlier works, this is a decent read for Jackson alone, but even her relationship with Acland is underwritten. A young psychiatrist who is a main character at the beginning vanishes entirely, and the detectives and crime victims remain sketchy. That said, Walters is one of the best and her worst is far better than anything by most crime novelists.

2-0 out of 5 stars Plods along
This book started out very promisingly...reports of unsolved murders...interesting plot built around a wounded soldier...unusual characters. But it fell short after the first few chapters, after Charles gets in the bar fight and meets up with Jackson. The book plods along after that and never picks up speed until the last two chapters. It jumps from one scene to another and it was hard to follow.Plus I never really cared about the characters or what happened to them.I lost interest in the story about half way through and only finished the book because I had started it and don't like to leave books unfinished. The reveal of the murderer was not really a surprise...but I wouldn't have cared one way or the other if it had turned out to be someone else.I just couldn't identify with any of the characters and I didn't really like any of them.I don't think I'll be reading anything else by this author.

4-0 out of 5 stars PRETTY GOOD
Minette Walters is one of my very favorite authors.I get very excited when there is a new book from Minette. Her novels of psychological suspense are not just books but definite pieces of literature. She knows how to take the English language and create beauty and magic. Her novels are always filled with great characters who are truly realized and usually contain an underlying story of growing suspense which she weaves with a magic hand. That is, until this novel.

This book is slightly formulaic and lacks the originality of her other works. The air of suspense is not present in this book. There are different story lines that the reader acccepts for Minette always expertly brings things together. The build up here was for nothing. The ending was a huge disappointment and just not up to the standard Ms. Walters has set by her previous work.

I still give the novel 4 stars for even subpar Minette Walters is better than most. She is an excellent, gifted author.I do recommend this book but it just isn't one of her best. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lizards!
Lizards are one of my favorite animals, and all of the beautiful pictures and fascinating facts made me love them even more, and gave me some interesting ideas about what types of lizards beyond the common ones will make the best pets.In addition to the types of lizards which everyone knows about, such as the green iguana, the leopard gecko, the various types of chameleons, the Gila monster, and the green anole, there are types of lizards not commonly known outside of the herpetological community, such as the Eastern glass lizard, which looks like a snake (I think that's my new favorite lizard!), the black tree monitor, the fat-tailed gecko, the six-lined racerunner, and the granite spiny lizard. There isn't a single bad picture in here; lizards just seem to be naturally cute, beautiful, or stately. Some of the more interesting ones are the ones that look like miniature dinosaurs (and have been used in numerous movies over the years as doubles for dinos); this order of reptiles is, after all, descended from the dinosaurs and millions of years old, older than the human race or even the mammalian class.Along with the lovely pictures are chapters on physical characteristics and behavior (such as vision, hearing, mating, teeth, thermoregulation, domestication, hibernation, and locomotion), information on each of the lizards profiled, information on lizard conservation (it's sad how threatened this neat little order of reptiles is by humans, when they do us a great service by eating insect pests and could hold within them medical secrets that could save lives), and the relationship between lizards and humans throughout history and in various places around the world.Though the reptilian brain will never be as advanced, either intellectually or emotionally, as the mammalian brain, the information contained here reveals that numerous types of lizards seem to be rather intelligent, resourceful, and even emotional.

Sadly, during the writing of this book, the photographer, John Netherton, passed away suddenly at a rather young age.Though there wasn't time to get his stories behind these pictures, the text David Badger did include probably would have done him proud.I can't wait to read the other books they collaborated on, about snakes and frogs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Enchanting
I've been photographing Anoles around my garden for the last year or two, and, wanted to do a little extra reading on them.Lizard: A Natural History, provides not only a very enjoyable read, but, fantastic photography.A must companion book for anyone who enjoys getting a little closer to the 'backyard wild', and, wants a closer look at what roams around the rest of the world.Oh, and a bonus, the book has a collection of witty lizard observations from famous authors and naturalist.Quite fun!

5-0 out of 5 stars Outlines not just facts, but also common fiction
This natural history of lizards includes the chameleon, iguana, gecko and more, pairing brilliant close-up color photos by John Netherton with a scientific and popular survey by Badger which outlines not just facts, but common fiction about different lizards. David Badger's Lizards is a very fine guide which will serve as both a leisure browse and a library reference. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful series for kids of all ages
What a hoot this series is!! I'm a substitute teacher and am always looking for titles to pass along to my students. I love to introduce them to Chet Gecko.

The plot is simple.Someone comes to Chet in hopes he can find their brother in time for the big football game.Chet takes the case. He has to solve the case, save the school, and oh, he has no plans on skipping lunch. That's all I want to say about the plot, I don't want to spoil anything.

This series is so funny, I actually found myself laughing out loud at what Chet was doing and what he was up to. The Author has a fantastic writing style. The style is set up as if we're watching an old time detective move. The writing is crisp, quick and refreshing. The author does something a lot of children's authors don't do, and that's keeping the ages of his readers in mind. It's right on their level, and will keep adults engaged.

I tell my students about this series. If you want your kids to read, then this is a great series to start with. I love it and can't wait to read more of them to see what Chet is up to.

If your kids start this series, I can promise they'll be hooked.

1-0 out of 5 stars "Coke-bottle glasses" and "Buckteeth"?
After reading all the glowing reviews, I bought the entire series.I am very dissapointed. What kind of insensitive children's author would have his main character/hero refer to classmates as wearing "coke-bottle glasses", having "buckteeth", or not being "bright enough to power a night-light"?Students who study are "nerds" or "nimrods", and teachers are mocked and answered with sarcasm. The titles are witty and clever, but the contents are neither. I can't imagine anyone suggesting these offensive books are appropriate for children.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Chameleon Wore Chartreuse
What I would say, this is a amazing book for children 4th grade or 3rd grade. This book has a very good humor. It's about a gecko named Chester Gecko ( Chet for short ) that acts like a detective and has to find Shirley Charmeleon's little brother Billy. If he finds her brother he will get the leftovers of Shirley Charmeleon's dad's stinkbug pie.
He really wants it but see what happens at the end of the story before you say he wants always! Chet Gecko is a series of books and they are reccomended for children. It may have some hard words for some children but they could sound them out or read them in the dictionary. Its a 5 star childrens book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great intro to a great series
My son is [...] and hates chapter books, he would much rather be reading non-fiction.When I found the Chet Gecko series at the store, I took a chance and bought the first book.At first my son refused to read it, but after reading the first two chapters aloud as a bedtime story, he was hooked. He has since read all of the Chet Gecko novels and loves each and every one.I have read most of them to my students, (I teach reading recovery in a middle school)and they have always been a huge hit. While he may not be reading Chaucer, I am very happy to see him reading chapter books and enjoying himself. My six year old daughter also loves having the books read to her.I would recommend the Chet Gecko to any child, boy or girl, as a great introduction to mystery novels, detective stories, and bad puns.

This story is mostly about a gecko venturing to find a lost boy named Billy. After quit a few clues he amazingly found the boy. This story has a good vs. evil theme, because Chet and Natalie are good and they are challenging the two rat sisters and Herman the Gila monster. Plus Herman even tied Chet and Natalie above a pool, boiling with chlorine. The author's message is you should never give up because you can always solve a mystery if you try really, really hard. There are other messages like friends can really help you, because Natalie helped Chet solve the great mystery. If I could trade places with someone in the story, I would trade places with Natalie, because she can fly because she is a bird. Natalie is a symbol of helping because she helped Chet the gecko solve the mystery of where the heck is Billy. I think the title doesn't go with the story very much, because the only thing the same is the chameleon part. I also think it was an uneven battle, because there was three bad characters and only two good characters. Before I read this story I thought you had to be an adult to solve a mystery but now that I read this story my schema has changed and now I know that anybody can solve a mystery... not just adults. This story would be perfect for third and fourth graders. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Bi-Lingual Book for babies!
I purchased this book (along with many others) before my son was born. He is now 9 months old and will choose this book over any other to read. It is by far his favorite book. This book is filled with bright, colorful illustrations that keep his attention and provide plenty to look at. In adition, the text is not overwhelming or lengthy. The fast pace of the book also helps keep his attention. I wish there were more Japanese - English books available for young children and babies. This is a great resource for bi-racial families like ours.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous Turkish English Book for Children
The images in the book are beautiful. The book itself is very durable and my daughter turns the pages over and over.It has yet to fall apart.Lovely book and a great aid in teaching our daughter Turkish.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not cute at all.
Bright colors but not a cute book.My daughter did not care much for it.I would not recommend it, but there are not too many turkish-english books out there.

3-0 out of 5 stars Check Language
OK, this book is obviously in several languages, cause I have it in Arabic (not Chinese or Farsi). It is a nice book, though I am not too sure what the moral of the story is. Not that it makes any difference to my daughter. She still likes to read it. She is in a dinosaur phase, so she is convinced they are dinosaurs not lizards LOL I hope with time she will get the difference LOL
