Product Description
Years ago, it was going to be another ruined evening for the Hausers. Marion had another migraine headache. She finally decided to end all of the suffering and tried Prolotherapy. Boy, is she glad that she did! You will also be glad if you suffer from migraines, tension, or cluster headaches. Marion went from being a skeptic, to someone who now writes books on the topic! Prolotherapy stimulates the body to repair painful areas. Don’t most headaches start out with neck or shoulder pain? Learn about a lesser-known syndrome called Barre-Lieou Syndrome, which is one of the most common causes of headaches. Some of the associated symptoms include ringing in the ears, sinus pressure, dizziness, and neck pain. Ligament injury in the neck is usually the cause of head forward posture, which leads to chronic neck pain and headaches. Prolotherapy causes the vertebrae in the neck to stay in alignment. Good alignment means good posture. Good posture means fewer headaches. No more headaches mean good bye to pain pills. Learn why many former headache sufferers found hope with Prolotherapy. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This is NOT a waste
First off, the people who wrote this book didn't invent Prolo Therapy. It goes back at least to the 1940's and is practiced by a handful of orthopedic surgeons.I had Prolo Therapy done for chronic neck problems which I had no hope would ever be healded.Within four months I had put 20 plus years of chronic pain compeletely behind me.I've told everyone I know about this and their results have been similar to mine.I cannot say enough good things about Prolo Therapy. It needs to be advertised. It is nothing short of a miracle. BTW, it works on chronic lower back pain, rotator cuff injuries, and a number of other joint problems as well.
Ignore at your own peril.

1-0 out of 5 stars complete waste of money
This book was a complete waste of 19.95. It was filled with personal information about the authors and creators of "prolotherapy" and was just like a big advertisement for them. I got no true information or helpful suggestions at all. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It is all here!
I looked at Dr. Hauser's website and watched the videos and read most of what I found there. Then I saw the book and ordered one, read it and ordered another to loan-out to our friends and family. All the information you need to evaluate whether you may be a good candidate for prolotherapy is right here.

The book has a lot information but it is so easy to get around in the book to find what you are looking for. You read a section that pertains to what you want to know and you learn that plus find more related info to lead you to another topic in another section of the book.

My wife and I have read two other older books this year on the same subject but those were nothing like this easy reading very informative book which covers more territory and has the subject much better presented.

My wife had prolotherapy over ten years ago on her elbow and it healed quickly and we had forgotten all about prolotherapy, not even remembering the name prolotherapy until I found Dr. Hauser's website. We we amazed at how many so-called chronic untreated conditions can be treated with very good results using prolotherapy instead of surgery. We have found a local MD who uses the therapy and are now seeing him.

5-0 out of 5 stars Explanation of prolotherapy
good info, and in depth explanation of how prolo works.Must read if you are considering this therapy. Prolo is amazing and will help.I have used this healing modality extensively, and cannot say enough good things. Please consider before you have surgeries.

5-0 out of 5 stars A useful introduction to prolotherapy for layman and junior doctors
Being a musculoskeletal physician doing prolotherapy in my daily practice in Hong Kong, where prolotherapy is still fresh to the public, I give this book an excellent grade in terms of conveying the principles and answering the common questions about prolotherapy to my patients. I believe it will also be particularly useful for young doctors who want to start their prolotherapy practice

4-0 out of 5 stars Prolotherapy
Factual book by good author. Had prolo 3 times and it helped me with lower back pain. Even after the 1st time I gradually had less pain. It can take 1-2 months but it is real healing not just covering the pain.

5-0 out of 5 stars Prolo works...
After spending a lot of money on visiting dentists, oral surgeons, and purchasing a dental appliance that was supposed to allow the joint to heal and fix the problem (which it didn't), I decided to try prolo. After three treatments I could open my jaw far enough to actually be able to yawn again! I have become a firm believer in natural medicine and helping your body heal itself, and prolotherapy does just that. Prolo doesn't involve surgery, which means that you can walk out of the office that day and not be laid up for weeks and months recuperating. Besides...prolo works! Read the book to find out why it works and how people are getting rid of their pain and are regaining their mobility. You'll be glad you did. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Prolotherapy worked when nothing else did
I struggled with major chronic back pain for 2+ years.I went to numerous doctors and tried physical therapy (2 different therapists), massage therapy, chiropractic care (2 different chiropractors), and even accupuncture.Nothing worked.I thought I was doomed until prolotherapy.

The book is an okay read.I think the author goes a little over the top.But it gives you a basic understanding of what prolotherapy is, why it works, why other things might not work or make things worse. It is written with a lay person in mind rather than a doctor, so don't be afraid of a bunch of mumble-jumble.

Prolotherapy itself gets 5 stars (or more), but I downgraded because much of the information in the book can be found on the web.I still bought the book and read it.If you are unsure or curious about prolotherapy, it is worth the read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Prolo Therapy CURE
I had Prolo Therapy done on my neck.I suffered from pain 24/7 from 5 flattened vertabrae in my neck.I never thought I would be able to do anything for the pain. I spent a fortune on chiropractors, and quack cures. I was tremendously blessed to find out about Prolo Therapy.Within four months of treatment I was pain free, and that was 5 years ago.I am so greatful for this treatment that words fail me. I went on to have it done on my rotator cuffs and got the same great result. It's a miracle and blessing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Low Chronic Back Pain sufferers, MUST READ this book
This book opened my eyes to a whole new world of back pain treatment. After 15 years of chronic back pain ranging from mild to incapacitating, I was running out of options.Back bracing, ice, anti-inflamatories, and cortisone shots only left me in worse shape. After reading this book, I had a consultation for Prolotherapy.Immediate relief was forthcoming after the first treatment. After receiving 4 treatments of prolotherapy, I am 90% free of back pain.

Read this book and get yourself educated in how to take charge of your back pain.

5-0 out of 5 stars Avoided Spinal Fusion With Prolo-Therapy
Largely as a result of reading this informative book, I undertook prolotherapy for "severe degenerative disc disease" in in the L5-S1 area.It was a last ditch effort to head off a spinal fusion operation.

This book and the glowing preface by Dr. C. Everett Koop gave me the courage to persist through early weeks of an 8-treatment, 6-mos process--which turned out to be minimally painful after the first session or so.So far, four months into treatment, I am very much improved.I am lucky to live near Santa Barbara, home of the offices of one of the researchers cited in the book.

I learned a great deal from the book about the nature of the healing process--a lot of which is counter to popular opinion.

To anyone considering prolo-therapy: read this book and go to someone who practices the procedures all day long.

Prolo-therapy is certainly a viable option. The concern should be to find a skilled practitioner.

3-0 out of 5 stars Prolo Your Back Pain Away
This book had some valuable information on the subject, however, I was offended and appalled by the religious propaganda and shameless self promotion contained within. It made me wonder how helpful prolotherapy REALLY is, or if the authors are just trying to convince people to get business. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW
I bought the book because I was dealing with a health problem.I did not know what to expect but was certainly pleasantly surprised.Just reading about how the authors struggled with a major illness and were able to overcome it was an inspiration.Half way through the book I stopped and ordered three additional books and had them sent to friends and relatives who are dealing with health problems. I can not imagine anyone who is facing health problems not being inspired by this book.If they are not inspired or encouraged, perhaps they are not discouraged
enough to have an open mind.I truly believe that we do not have to know how something works in order to benefit from trying it.I believe that this books offers HOPE.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not a self-help book, but the appendices are good
Others have pointed out the shortcomings of this book... the long narrative, the lack of solid how-to advice, the hodge-podge of techniques mentioned but not thoroughly explained. Yet there are some good things if you read it with a grain of salt and don't get bogged down.

The authors point out the importance of attitude but it's their examples of misguided attitudes in the first part of the book that make their point. They knew they were very sensitive to chemicals and mold and yet stayed in toxic environments and then were really really upset when they had severe reactions. This is understandable at first but when they keep doing this the reader gets a bit impatient. Then they seek out supernatural advice through mediums and such and also try bodywork and kineseology and they eventually improve. Yet it's not clear exactly what cured them, or even how much better they are. So the book is a little frustrating.

There is a series of appendices which I actually found useful. If you are looking for help with MCS/EI, read Pam Gibson's reports on what helps and does not help, but consider getting a copy of this book at the library, or buy a used copy. Skim through the text, keeping an open mind about the channeled guidance - it may or may not have happened exactly the way they understood it, but they were there and advice was coming from somewhere, so I can accept that something was happening and eventually it was helpful. Anyway, the appendices are worth looking over.

1-0 out of 5 stars Puuuhleeeeze!! Don't Waste Your TIME!
They don't even have a clue! This is a very old - outdated book. It needs to be out of print!

4-0 out of 5 stars Opened My Mind
This book helped me to look at my illness in a new way.Although parts of the authors' story were a bit longwinded, I found it helpful to read about their process in detail.I could feel (and relate to) how consumed they were by trying to create a "safe" environment in the external world- and how this obsession did little to improve their health.I felt encouraged as they discovered new ways of relating to EI and how they were transformed by their intense inner work.

I had never heard of "channeling" and I wasn't really into energy healing when I first read this book. I benefitted from its basic message nonetheless.I still refer back to it, especially Appendix IV which is a summary of the authors' observations on healing CFS/EI.As the authors note, not everyone has to do what they did to heal the illness, but if you have tried "everything" are stuck, this book could be helpful to you.

If this book is too "woo-woo" for your taste (and even if it isn't), I recommend "Healing Environmental Illness from Within" by Marcia Murphy. It is the story of woman who wholeheartedly tried the more conventional treatments for EI, but failed to break through it until she included mind & spirit in her healing process.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing but interesting
As a longtime CFS and EI sufferer, I couldn't wait to get this book. I'm now very open to "channels" and messages from angels or highly evolved beings, and also the incredible helpfulness of energy medicine in the very necessary changing of beliefs, letting go of emotions, as well as the physical avoidance of toxins (at least in the healing stages) and attention to diet, allergies, etc. Although I'm almost 100% healed and even starting a new business at age 52, I was enticed by reviews that this book would uncover the mental and emotional reasons people get EI and CFS at this time and place.

I eagerly went to bed each night to read another few chapters, but as each night went on, I was anxious for the story part to be over (it was interesting and validating, even though each EI sufferer is affected quite differently) and the "answer" part to begin. I was disappointed to say the least. Any evolved being who would admonish a human and cause them to suffer and cry with guilt, rage, shame, etc. is NOT a very evolved being!

This being talked in circles that were very hard to follow, and the authors blamed themselves for not getting it! Any entity from the Light is going to feel like a loving parent and bathe them in higher vibrations that feel good, not bad, while releasing the negative energy so many of us have. We need positive loving messages, not more depression! The insights I receive from Highly evolved souls and entities are always helpful and make me feel better; that's how I differentiate them from messages from the "dark side" whether that's a religious belief or your own shadow side.

I don't know what treatments the authors use for people who visit them (another disappointment with the book), but they hinted at NAET, which does have value. Allergies (or more accurately, energy toxins) to everything from foods, inhalants, everyday products, almost ANYTHING) can have a huge impact on the immune system, and in my case, my moods and muscles. NAET neutralizes these substances to much relief, but I found early on that I was so sick, I couldn't hold the treatments, even though I did them for 2 years.

It wasn't until I met the folks at Quantum Techniques (www.quantumtechniques.com) that I was able to release the viruses, bacteria, past emotional traumas, beliefs- all kinds of things that didn't seem at the time to be connected to EI, TOTALLY PAINLESSLY. It's been an amazing journey, though not cheap. I also recommend Machaelle Small Wright's MAP book- Medical Assistance Program from beings of the Light who are there to help humans heal. And it's free, and it feels good! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding book and very prompt service
This book had a lot of good and accurate information. Service from Amazon was also outstanding. I continue to have good experiences with Amazon and my choices of books I purchase from them. Book arrived in half the time they estimated, which was good becasue I think they way overestimate standard delivery times.

1-0 out of 5 stars Pure quackery - worse than snake oil
This book is a repository of a litany of scares and pure quackery, much of which has been debunked by research and clinical trials decades ago. Autoimmune diseases cannot be treated by any of its bizarre misrepresentations.

5-0 out of 5 stars A holistic and clear approach to autoimmune disease
This is an excellent book if you want to try to find ways of helping yourself overcome autoimmune diseases without just taking suppressive drugs from your doctor. Edelson explains very clearly the immune process, what happens when T Cells start attacking you rather than fighting for you, exactly what 'free radicals' are and why they are so important, and most importantly, he suggests that in addition to the genetic factor, much autoimmune disease is called by environmental toxins and in particular mercury from dental work. This book is the first one I have found that has given me answers and suggestions about how to work with and overcome an autoimmune disorder.I am deeply grateful.

1-0 out of 5 stars A bad, BAD idea...
I would be dead if I followed this author's suggestions.I've been diagnosed with a very rare autoimmune disorder that causes life-threatening allergic reactions. One of my triggers is heat.I used to love the sauna, but I would have to be CRAZY to visit one again.Sure... I eat a healthy (organic) diet, minimize my exposure to chemicals and heavy metals, get plenty of sleep... but I also avoid my triggers and I'm faithful about taking the medications my doctors have prescribed. This is how I stay out of the ER.One size does not fit all.

Educating yourself is extremely important if you think you have an autoimmune disorder.BUT... this book is not the way to do it.Run the other way.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book on where to start your healing journey
I started reading this about 2 years after I had already worked with a doctor who helped me become symptom-free of my RA. I have done probably half of the recommendations in the book through my doctor & I am comfortable with where I am at. I will hold it for reference if I start to regress.

This book is very comprehensive. It can be overwhelming for someone who has been eating fast foods or boxed processed foods & who has only been to a conventional doctor who writes Rx's all day. Not to discount any of the info in the book -- it is all great. But I believe people have to want to truly heal & get out of the mentality that "there is a pill for every ill." You have to take control of your own health.

The author explains the common issues behind autoimmune disorders & how to work through the symptoms. I know I couldn't have recovered by myself, I did it with the help of an out of state doctor, Dr. Richard Brouse.

The author promotes his wellness center, which I think is fine. It's a starting place. But there may be adequate local doctors that can help. The author provides a list of questions to ask them when interviewing them for treating you.

Overall, very good reference book. Just try not to get overwhelmed with all of the protocol recommendations. [...] & [...] are good starting points as well. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars It's all in your head neurologically speaking
Like most people, I find the mind-body connection fascinating.I also believe the best treatment combines the organic and mental health issues to be dealt with by patients of chronic biological illness.

Unfortuanately, Ms Chalder appears to ignore the organic in favor ofindiscriminate psychiatric analysis. While I think this might be a helpfulbook in general for psychiatric patientswho are dealing with being down in the dumps or tired, beyond that it appears to be limited in both scope and application. Thus the one star rating.

There appears to be very little here for patients biologically diagnosed with the grave and severely disabling disease known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), ME in the United Kingdom. The World Health Organization has listed the discrete disease, CFS under neurological disorders specifically excluding it from psychiatric disorders. While chronic fatigue should not be ignored, it is a common symptom of many grave illness such as cancer, liver disease and heart disease, as well as chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS).

Patients diagnosed with the organic illness, CFS, should be careful regarding graded exercise. The reason is that Ms. Chalder's research on psychiatric patients, that may or may not have the neurological disorder known as CFS, cannot be applied to other patient poplulations. Biological research in the U.S. has shown that graded exercise can cause harm in people with this neurological disorder.Patients may find Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helpful in developing coping skills, but, the premise that one can cure themselves of organic disease by denying their biological illness is quite controversial and unfortunatlet unproven at this time. Many other psychological therapies provide help in dealing and coping with any chronic illness through support and affirmation.

I firmly believe mental health should be taken seriously, instead of being disparaged, but I believe there are more applicable and practical books available to the chronically ill, including neurologial CFS patients.

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical, effective help for ME sufferers.
I can recommend this book from personal experience. I suffered from CFS (ME) for two years about 10 years ago. I went to see Trudi in her London clinic and recovered fully as a direct result of the cognative therapy I received there. This book is a summary of the sensible approach taken by Trudi to treating CFS which combines increasing daily activity in a controlled consistent way with tackling some of the fixed (if seemingly logical) beliefs about the best way to get better which many sufferers have that can in fact hinder their own recovery. If you are suffering from CFS and are at a loss as to what to do to recover, do give this approach a try. You will stop having to wait to get better and will find you can do something effective to speed up your recovery.

Product Description
SICK AND TIRED investigates the paradox that while people in the developed world are living longer, millions of people suffer from new illnesses that modern medicine has no answer for e.g. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome,Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.Half the visits to NHS doctors in the UK involved patients with such problems. Nick Read reveals what is going on; why the stresses and strains of modern life are often the trigger for an astonishing range of symptoms; and why the NHS and other medical systems are so bad at dealing with them. He contends that this is not the first time in history that social, economic and family pressures have led to new forms of sickness. And he explains how modern clinical practice that has so sharply reduced the number of people dying of heart disease (for example) is often slow to detect psychosomatic problems, and usually clumsy at dealing with them. Dr Read cites numerous case studies and patients' stories to show how the disintegration of family units, job pressures and the sheer pace of modern life can trigger debilitating physical symptoms.SICK AND TIRED reveals the extraordinary extent to which your mind can affect your body. It is not a call for us all to seek therapy, but a considered study into the impact of our lifestyles on our health. If you don't have such symptoms yourself, you probably have family or friends who do: Dr Read explains that the way to better health is to tackle the stress, not just the symptoms. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A good introductory reference on pain management
Simon, Ehrlich and Sadwin have edited a good basic introductory reference for the public on pain management with a variety of complementary/alternative medicine approaches. Each of the editors has contributed sections of the book as well. Various tables summarize relevant material and nicely supplement the text, which is divided into easily digested portions.

The reviewer, who is familiar with a spectrum of approaches to relieve pain and emotional traumas, found items of particular interest:

> A discussion on 40 symptoms of hidden brain concussion (p. 51)
> A discussion on Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), aka Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD), its assessment and treatments
> A table differentiating between physical and psychological pain syndromes (p. 92-93)

The discussion on CAM approaches highlights a broad spectrum of modalities, with a few suggested readings for most.Surprising significant omissions: EMDR, Energy Psychology approaches e.g. (WHEE; Emotional Freedom Technique), both of which are the most potent of the available treatments for psychological trauma, and the latter of which is very helpful in treatment of physical pain as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Taking Charge:No Alternative
As a person who has seen chronic illness from both sides of the physician's white coat, I highly recommend this book. This book will be useful not only to the afflicted, but also to those family and friends who must also cope with the "elephant" in the room--which begins to take up a larger and larger portion of the free space around the patient as time goes by, and as the physician(s) become more and more distant, letting you know that the are gradually withdrawing emotionally after the condition becomes one of those within medicine that, frankly, fill most of the charts on the walls of medical records offices.

It is much to easy to succumb to the incipient blaming that comes as you repeatedly seek assistance and find little relief, or, worse, manipulation and financial and emotinoal rip-off throughout the health care system. You know it isn't the people...but it gets harder and harder.

This book was first published in 1994, but is no less relevant today than then...and highly recommended. The subtitle:Overcoming the challenges of long-term illness....belies the secret greatest obstacle facing many patients in our "modern" society...how to achieve a sense of meaningful life in a society in which we are barraged with the illusion of youth, immortality, health-promotion with little scientific basis, and stereotypes of physical beauty.

I would like to see comparisons to those who are "treated" in health-care systems that approach chronicity differently...

5-0 out of 5 stars Validation and real coping suggestions for medical crises.
As a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in counseling individuals coping with chronic illness, I have recommended this book to clients and to the public in my advertising. The book is worded ineveryday language speaking to the reader. The content is to the point andnot caught up in philosophy or jargon. It is well organized to not onlyvalidate a spectrum of emotional ractions but also to assist the reader tobreak an overwhelming experience into workable parts. The reader isrespected as an already successfully coping adult who has been met with acrisis and needs support.Specific, useful coping suggestions are offeredto the client. The book offers validation, a sense of direction, and hopeof regaining control to the person or family confronted with a medicalcrisis. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Oxygen is Life

Pick yourself up a used copy or look for a copy in the library, it really will be a breath of fresh air.

5-0 out of 5 stars Increase Your Supply Of Oxygen
2007.I have just finished this 1989 book. This is the best explanation I have read about "WHY AND HOW" we should breathe. His push to get more Oxygen into the system is convincing. The results he claims to get in his research andprivate practice are, in my opinion, amazing.I started my program before ending the book.I think I am getting some improvements in just a few days.I will need to get more experience before I can say it really delivers what he promises.

The fact that this 1989 Hendlerused book is selling for $6 instead of .01 cent seems to tell me something.Hendler's other books have good reviews.(I am surprise that there are no reviews on this book.) I think this is one of the best health books I have read and I am going to search for Hendler'smore recent publications.

5-0 out of 5 stars My doctor wrote this book!! Thank you.
I saw Dr. Smith when he was in Boston at Beth Israel (Harvard). He is the DEAREST, MOST COMPASSIONATE doctor I've ever known. I've suffered with chronic back pain for years, and Dr. Smith helped me find the right combination of therapies to resolve the pain and live my life again. This book is so totally him!! It is easy-to-read, compassionate, and helps women (like me) understand what is happening when we have pain. His treatment program is so conservative with many natural therapies listed and explained. He's the best--and this book reflects that.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Super guide for women only
I have been waiting for the release of this book ever since reading about it in a small magazine called OURSELVES. The book is everything I need--answers all my questions about pain and why I feel pain differently than my husband. It has superb remedies--both natural and medicine--for ending menstrual cramps, headaches, and back pain. I took notes and gave the book to a friend with fibromyalgia as there's a section on this, too.
Very refreshing, very revealing!! Finally--someone knows what women have endured and now WE know how to best treat it! ... Read more
