5-0 out of 5 stars Unbelievably good transcriptions
The Hal Leonard series of transcribed bass parts is just an outstanding resource for the(fretted) electric bass player wanting to play a variety of well known popular songs. The bassists (plural) in our house use these books constantly because they're so accurate and easy to read with both notation and TAB.I recommend the entire series for any bassist. However, these are not really beginner books. They contain transciptions of the bass lines played by the pros, and the beginner will find them overwhelming. If you have some experience (especially with both reading and playing TAB) you will love this book. Having said that, some of the songs are useful for the newer bass player with guidance of a teacher/experienced family member or friend. If you want to learn some awesome classic bass parts, buy this book. You will not be disappointed. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars important read
If you're a fan of classic rock, you must read this book to get the knowledge you've been craving.

I wanted to say that it's nice when people respect the revolutionary giants of rock, but it would be even better in my opinion if people also respected the other talented bands out there that don't (or didn't) receive the same level of popularity and respect. That's why I am bringing up Mountain and the Mahavishnu Orchestra. These bands probably won't be remembered 30 years from now, and I wish that wasn't the case because I feel they're worth listening to on the same level as Led Zeppelin or whatever, and that's why I'm so passionate about getting people to check them out.

I love reading reviews from people who say they've checked out some rare band "just because" and became a big fan as a result. That's really special, if you ask me. It means they took that important step into checking out music on their own, and found something to satisfy them as a result. These people weren't told to buy it- they just bought it for whatever reason. Maybe someone encouraged them to buy it by playing creative music for them, and they said to themselves "Hmm, maybe there's more creative music out there". That's a healthy attitude.

Keep reading and finding out about other rock bands that were never popular and please check them out. Whether it's underground rock bands from 30 years ago, or brand new bands. I'm being respectful here, because I *really* want people to check out enjoyable bands that deserve to be remembered. Hey, check out Mahavishnu Orchestra's Inner Mounting Flame! :)

It's annoying when you try your hardest to get people to hear music that's creative, unpopular or just different, and people don't appreciate it and instead request to hear Creed or whatever. That's insulting because you can turn on your radio any time you want to hear Creed.

It just seems like many people deliberately hate music that's not currently popular. I don't like this attitude. Trust me, there's a LOT of people I've met who've straight up told me they refuse to listen to music that's not popular. There's other people who I thought were more open-minded to appreciate music that's not popular, but most of them turned out to only want the stuff you can hear on the radio after all.

The point I'm making with all this heavy talk about respect and being open-minded is that it's important to read this book to get a better understanding and appreciation for the rock musicians of the past, and it's important to remember them for the rest of our lives.Purchase The Big Book of Classic Rock today. ... Disraeli Gears was a landmark album in the history of rock. The group Cream was made up ofthe power trio of Eric Clapton on guitar, Jack Bruce on bass, and Ginger Baker on drums. This album, their second, launched their US career with songs such as Strange Brew and Sunshine of Your Love. Includes interviews with all participants and first-hand accounts of their early concerts and recordings.John Platt, a club manager and writer in the late 1960s in London when Cream was first performing, produced a Cream box set for Polydor Records. 5-0 out of 5 stars Cream of The Crop
The life and career of Eric Clapton has been extensively covered in various other books, but there are a precious few about the definitive power trio he was apart of in the 1960's.Cream is one of the best rock bands from the 60's and Disraeli Gears is their best album.John Platt not only gives a crisp and insightful look into the making of the album, but to the origins of the band itself.Mr. Platt supplies us with liberal doses of the bassist and lead vocalist Jack Bruce's thoughts as well as commentary from drummer Ginger Baker and Mr. Clapton. The book also details their live work which is the band is renowned for.Mr. Platt has written a superb book that is another great volume in the Classic Rock Series.

4-0 out of 5 stars A must for any Cream fan!
For you Cream fans waiting for the "reunion", this will make you long all the more. John Platt does a very good job on retracing the history of the band's recordings, with the emphasis on the Disraeli Gears album. The book does spend too much time on the subject of exact dates and many ofthe inconsistent accounts leave you with a feeling of; "so what wasthe real version"?But, all aside, the best documented account I havefound on one of the most talented bands in rock/blues history.

As a bigJack Bruce fan, I found myself reinforced with what I always believed: Jackwas THE driving force behind the band and had more of his influence beenallowed to develop, their survival may have been prolonged. ... Read more

A great primer for first-timers, but very limited in detail. If you're contemplating "if" you should go digital, this book will help you decide. But if you've already made that decison and want to know"how" to go about it, don't get this book. It explains the basicMIDI concepts very well, but I was hoping to get insight into what to buyfor a small home studio. Although the book tries to give advice in thisarea, it's quite limited.

4-0 out of 5 stars Missing Kurt
This is an excellent book on Nirvana, and it is too sad that it is out-of-print.It contains important interviews and write-ups from several pop culture mags of that era on the band--on performances--on their overall views...

Does this signal that Kurt was right: Grunge is dead?

Well, perhaps dead but not yet interred into the earth.

5-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good
Yeah, yeah, it's really lame to buy a book about them and all, but this isn't just another stupid ripoff fan book- this is really good stuff. It's funny. It's sad.It gives Courtney a chance to look less evil- I changedmy mind about her because of this book. And it's not just about Kurt likemost Nirvana books are- there's a good amount of stuff on Krist and thevarious drummers as well.Serious Nirvana fans really need to read this.
