Creative Inspiration
The photos and projects in this book are very inspiring. Without being able to get a 'real life' view of the pieces, the photography here is well done and is the next best thing. Cece leads you through a selection of projects that build on techniques and provide a way for beginners to explore the media and create wearable jewelry.

The details and explanations for the material and supplies and equipment are well done. The medium is still in the new stage so that every book has a beginning chapter or two on what you need to get started working. Cece's book is no exception and gives her preferences and techniques for metal clay. This book provides a good addition to a metal clay artist's library for that reason.

The one thing that I found lacking was the detail in the projects. Expecting the book to be a good how to for my students, I can't honestly say that I could recommend it for the beginner. Beginners need step-by-step photos (the best)or illustrations to answer the plethora of questions that are part of learning. The written explanations are good, but without pictures, there is just no way to know what a project should look like at each stage!

Therefore, I recommend this book for someone who is past the beginner stage in their exploration of metal clay. There aren't enough advanced projects to interest the experienced artist, but the photos are creatively inspiring just the same!

I'm reved to get started and have materials at hand!
Ms Wire's book Creative Metal Clay Jewelry is a nice little handbook of techniques and ideas for metal clay work.I have yet to try the medium, but I've gotten several books on the subject to get myself primed.

The author includes most of the general manufacturing techniques and materials descriptions that other artists do, but I found the designs for her projects were a little more inspiring and less daunting.I'm a major beginner with this art and need something simpler to begin learning the technique.

I was a little less impressed with the work of her guest artists than I have been with other books.The Penland Book of Jewelry: Master Classes in Jewelry Techniques has incredible if somewhat complex work by guest artists and Ms Wire's own book New Directions in Metal Clay: 25 Creative Jewelry Projects has wonderful work by both herself and her guests.Since it was primarily the "how to" aspect of the book I was interested in, however, I did not find this aspect necessarily a "put off." For a beginner, these projects are probably the ideal.

I was particularly pleased with the technique for woven work earrings and with the lost-burlap and lost-leaf techniques for producing texture and natural design.I'm definitely encouraged to get started and have the materials at hand now.Hopefully photos will follow.

Easier Than It Looks
This book's instructions are so easy to follow and the items are so much fun to make. It has a great selection of projects that can be used in every room of the dollhouse. I am new to polymer clay and this was the perfect introduction for me. I sold my first creations, three pumpkin patch pumpkins, on eBay within a week. My oven has been full of clay creations ever since I bought this book.

This is the most wonderful book
I made myself a miniature drugstore since I am a pharmacist and I had trouble finding things like mortars and cylinders.Thanks to this book I managed to make the most beautiful look-alike mortars with pestles and all, also a little turn-of-the-century (last century, of course) telephone. Good for kids of all ages
I take this book with me (along with some self-hardening clay) when I babysit.It never fails to capture the imagination and spark creativity.An older child I was babysitting used the "Mystical Wizard" instructions to make chess pieces.It's a wonderful book!

Great
This book has lots of fun stuff to do with toddlers and we are just starting to explore some of them with our 20 month old.Her care giver is excited to have new ideas as well.There are different levels listed for easy and time involved so make is easy to decide which one you have time to do and if the skill level is present to do them.Good book!

Sensory Overload
This book is packed with great dough ideas.I've only tried a 10th of what this book has to offer, but can't wait to try them all.We used a sand dough for a castle, needed for a school project.I've used it with my preschool, and pre-k children (work), as well as my own tweens.

LOVE this book and you will too!

Classic Clays, Doughs, and Modeling Mixtures
I remember when I bought this book back in 1990. I still use it and keep it on my shelf as a book that will not go out of use. Every recipe you ever needed is here including those made with your cornstarch and baking soda. I like the book because it does not tell the child what to make; it simply offers the recipes and lets kids make what they want. Some of the illustrations give good ideas for what is possible to make, but it is low key and kids are encouraged to be creative in their own way. This book has the best playdough I've ever made -- an entire chapter of different playdoughs, but my favorite is on page 29. All you need is flour, salt, and water. My copy says this book received a "Best of the Best" rating from the American Library Association.

Get your lathe out......
This book features wonderful, funky, complex clay bead tutes that are not for the timid clayer. I am an intermediate clay artist, always looking for advanced techniques and ideas. However, this book requires more of a commitment than I am willing to make. Not to be sexist,but it hits me as a guy's book - you know, a day in the life in shop class - lathes, drills, templates, etc. I appreciate the workmanship and creativity, but I will enjoy this book for the "eye candy" rather than a technique resource.

for precise people
this is a honest book: nothing to appeal more than necessary, nothing 'poetic', just a straight, technical book. good photos and explanations, many ideas which may look difficult but aren't -but not for beginners!- is a book written by a curious person who developped a very personal way of working with polymer clay. I would suggest to buy it if you already have many books on the subject.

Good technical manual for serious polymer artists
This is a gorgeous book and a good technical manual that fills a niche I haven't seen filled elsewhere for the serious polymer artist.For me as a trained (but rusty--ha ha) metalsmith, and an advanced beginner in polymer, this book offered some great insights into polymer properties and design.I would definitely recommend it as an addition to the library of any serious, aspiring student of polymer as well as the accomplished polymer artist who wants a different take.

Artful book on polymer bead making
The most artful book on making polymer clay beads. Great information on colors and finishing and there is some very good information on making molds and shaping beads without fancy tools as well as sculpting amazing beads. One small criticism is that there was more information on lathing beads than I was interesting. Also I wanted to know how to get the large extruder used for several of the beads. I can only find small extruders. It looks similar to a cookie press but I think it is a specialized polymer clay tool. Those two things make the review 4 instead of 5 stars. It is a beautiful book though and essential for bringing your polymer beads to the next level.

New Techniques for Polymer Clay Artists
I own about a dozen polymer clay books that I have purchased over the last twenty years to learn from. Most of those books contain a lot of duplication. Lots of authors offer more or less the same instruction on creating faux gemstones, caning and millefiori and other basic types of techniques, but most of these are only variations of one another. Diffendaffer has gone these other authors one better because he applies the use of tools to his work that are not commonly described in other books. These include texture plates that you can design in your studio or work space, tube and core beads that are constructed using mandrels, an oven stand using mandrels to bake many beads at one time, a lathe, polymer clay extruders, and texturing tools. He has also included information on the basics so the book could be used by those who are not highly experienced.

The bead types for which there are illustrations and instructions include mica shift beads, textured beads, lathe-turned beads, recursive molded beads, molded hollow-form beads and mandrel formed pillow beads (these are beads that extend halfway around the neck). While not all of them are to my taste, I have to say that most of them are quite attractive and very original.

The book concludes with a gallery that includes beautiful works by Dan Cormier, Jeffrey Dever, Debra De Wolfe, Kathleen Dustin, Celie Fago, Lindly Jaunani, Kasuyo Kono, Judy Kuskin, Wendy Wallin Malinow, Sarah Shriverr, Cynthia Toops and Elise Winter. Interesting!
I thought this book showed some very interesting projects to make using polymer clay -- ideas that I have never seen done before.Well illustrated and easy to follow, I recommend this book to anyone who is looking to make some truly unique clay items.

Exciting projects that make you want to redecorate your home
I really liked this book -- I have about 12 books on Polymer clay and this is one of the best.Does a good job going over all the basics, but the projects are what make the book really great.Too many poly clay books focus on cute little figures that really have no use -- Sue Heaser's book shows you how to make things that you can USE.The directions are clear, and the ideas excellent.I am currently trolling for old lamp to turn into my own clay lampshade!I liked this book so much that I have ordered her other book, Polymer Clay Techniques.

Creative new ideas with polymer clay
This is my ninth book on polymer clay. I purchased it to get ideas to expand on what I already knew and it did just that. This book is full of new ideas I haven't been introduced to in any other book to date. The projects are well thought out and easy to follow.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend this book to be your first if you have not yet worked with this medium. However, if you are even the slightest bit experienced with polymer clay and want to find new ideas and get a new perspective, I highly recommend it! ... Read more

Just a Great Book
I first seen this book at a crafting store and with their price came home and found it on Amazon.com at a lower cost..thats the first most important thing...I really love the way they incorperate the mica's in the projects to give them a very rich expensive non crafted look..I was very impressed with the projects in this book and reviewing it before I bought it was the selling point for me..Mrs.C.

interesting
I got this book from the library and I am not sure, if I am going to buy it. These project are not to my taste at all, but the author does show some interesting techniques that I was not familiar with. The faux tortoise shell pattern does not look like tortoise at all, but it is an interesting and attractive pattern that I would consider using for various projects. Her Mokume Gane construction is the simplest I have seen so far. The faux faberge pill box is one of her more attractive ideas and this is the first time I have seen embossing powder used as an enamel-like glaze. All in all, as with her other book "Polymer Clay Extravaganza", I was intrigued with the techniques, but not really interested in any of the the projects she presented. Some items were pretty good, just not my style - others were simply cheap and cheesy looking.

Great Book!!
If you're new to polymer clay, this book is a great way to begin learning more advanced techniques.The step-by-step instructions with pictures make "claying" easy. The photography is wonderful! I made presents for friends and they just LOVED them!Thanks, Lisa!!Keep 'em coming!!

Fantastic Book!
I love this book!It's the best of all of Lisa's books.She uses foil a lot in her projects, and the effect is gorgeous and glittery.There are also a variety of projects to decorate your home, jewelry, and even your car.At the end of each chapter is a section of tips from Lisa and other polymer clay artists.These little tips really help a lot.

SAVE YOUR MONEY
If you like to create boring items like, a clay covered pen, or fork and spoon, a clay framed license plate cover, this is the book for you!
Not only are the items dumb and boring, but she expects you to run out and buy all the extra products just to make one. Nice of her huh?

My favorite of all of Lisa's books.
I really love the funky and sophisticated projects offerred in this book.Lisa's classy fashion style is really what makes this book special.I recommend all of her books to my students but this one is just filled front to back with really cool and stylish projects.Another nice touch was the gallery filled with several variations on most projects.It really is amazing how just a color scheme change can make over a project.

Superb!
Lisa has knocked another one out of the ball park. I can't believe how great these projects are while being so easy. I expected them to be simplistic, but I am pleased with the level of sophistication in the projects even though they're easy to make. I've already made several from the book and Lisa's trademark style of simple, clear instructions, along with lots of great pictures is making it hard for me to make time to do anything else since buying it. Lisa's first book got me started and all of the tips she includes has made it easy for me to become a seasoned clayer. I loved her second book as much as the first and was hopeful her latest offering would do the same. It exceeded my expectations. I can't wait for the next one and her DVD. Lisa, you have a fan for life!

Fantastic Book
I have already used many of the tutorials in this book. They are clear and to the point also including variations so you can achieve different looks. My Jade and ivory beads turned out great, can't wait to do more.

Great Book!
I love this book!It has a wide variety of projects and techniques that have fairly easy to follow directions.You must be a visual and verbal learner because you have to piece the photographs and written instructions together to get the entire process.The pictures are nice and the techniques are great because they can be applied to a plethora of other projects.

Never did it before, but just whipped up a batch of gifts!
I am genuinely impressed.I've not done anything like this before, although I have done a lot of other crafts.I easily found the materials recommended in the book, and on my return from shopping, I just sat down and started to create.I had a great time and produced some very satisfactory little pins to use as Christmas gifts.I've very pleased.Although I used only the most basic techniques that the author suggests and didn't do anything really daring, I produced sufficiently competent results right away.That's hardly the case with most types of craft.

This book is really good for a person just starting out in polymer clay.There are helpful techniques on making canes, mosaic, skinner blend, etc.

good read, informative
i got the book a few days ago and i have read it from front to back. it is very informative and tells you all about how to break down the portions of the face and what makes each unique and all of the variables that makes each face its own and distinctive from others. i havent started a figure yet because i wanted to educate myself first but i have marked several pages to reference. i am excited to start and was happy how she breaks the process down step by step it is very explanitory. if you have any interest at all in making lil characters i would reccomend this book. i believe it would be helpful for professionals and beginers. worth the read and very good book to reference. highly reccomend!!!

Love this book!
If you can make clay people as well as Carlson than kudos to you! This book inspired me to at least try, and guess what? I made a Rastafarian dude out of clay! The armitures are a little tricky but with time I'll figure it out. Carlson obviously did her research and explains anatomy in relation to clay art very well. A great read to get to grips with some of the really practical steps and stages of this hobby - coupled with the other books I bought, I was glad I choose this as it was way down the scale and really where I ought to start since I am a complete novice. The easy to use instructions (for me especially) would be welcomed by some older children too - great ideas enclosed.

I enjoy looking through this book by Sandra McCall.The photos are well done and the instruction is clear.There are many techniques and projects included in the book.I like the wire working and tile mosaic look of some of the items.This book is beautifully done.

Great, Innovative Information
This book is a keeper!Sandra McCall has packed this book with wonderful projects.She has a keen eye for color and a style that is very inspiring.I found new techniques which I've never seen any place else, before, or even since reading this book.She tells of an easy way to quickly add sheen to beads without having to dip them into anything or even buffing.Quite a nifty time saver!

This was the first polymer clay book I bought, I had just gotten my info off the web sites, I'm so glad I bought it.I still pick it up often and get inspired to make more of the projects or try them in a new way.

Great combination!
This is an outstanding how-to of meshing stamping and polymer clay. I dabble in polymer clay bead making, but most if not all of the techniques in this book will apply or are adaptable to making beads. I find McCall's instructions to be thorough, photos explanatory and the projects to be creative and innovative. Bravo!

Inspiring but difficult to follow
I liked this book for the inspiring techniques. Unfortunately some of the images 'showed off' what you could do without offering true recipes. The Mokumo game looks great.. the step by step is impossible to follow because there are no images and instructions say use ripple blade on one side of a layered block - there are six sides - please! which one? I still don't know. I'm wasting numerous blocks of clay trying to work out exactly what was meant by the very poor instructions. In all, this book is a little disappointing but still a worthwhile addition to your library. I only wrote this review to counter all the 5/5 reviews because they make it look like a miracle book, it isn't but it's good.

Many artists with many fabulous projects
This book includes projects never before published.
Each project artist submitted their text, project and work samples resulting in a good sampling of diversity for the materials. Georgia Sargeant culled from these submissions the most interesting and with her fine writers' skills polished up the manuscript to present clearly understandable directions and information for many new techniques.
The photographic close ups are extremely helpful in supporting the instructions for each step, making following along a simple and fun process.
I often use this book when I teach polymer clay and Precious Metal Clay programs. My students have found it to be a great resource for the techniques in both media.
I think this is definitely a new classic when it comes to polymer clay and Precious Metal Clay and I'm very honored to have been a part of this project.

A beautiful book
I could rave for hours about the combined beauty and simplicity inside this book. I like it so much I'm presently ordering it for xmas! This book is so easy to use it would be appropriate for someone wanting to create elegant yet simple gifts or items etc in polymer clay. Yet because of the simplisticness of Marie's writing it can be folllowed by apsolutely anyone. From beginner/intermediate to expert.

Polymer Clay Creations by Marie Segal is a GREAT book!
Marie Segal's Polymer Clay Creations is just about my favorite polymer clay book, and I own about 15 polymer clay books. This book has 11 easy projects you can do, and they are easy, the instructions are easy to follow, and the results are awesome! I did two of her projects as a newbie clay person, and they are among the best I've done.

I definitely recommend this book to clayers of all levels, your results will be great no matter if you are a beginning or experienced clayer.

What a great way to spend your weekend!!
As a newbie in polymer clay, this book was a tremendous help.The photos and text have a clean "uncluttered" look to it that don't overwhelm the reader.The projects are simpler than they look and well described by Marie.The only thing missing would be "outtakes" of Marie!!

Great book, full of inspiration and excellent instruction.I would recommend this book to anyone interested in making jewelry or learning new techniques.

I don't know
there is something in this book that doesn't work and I don't know why. the paper is of good quality, the printing too, many -MANY- explanations, photos,projects.there is also a small gallery section at the end. in spite of all these good qualities, the result is boring. It reminds me of a sewing book my granny had - I mean the spirit of it-. there are no 'twists', no surprises, you don't hear a 'oohh' coming out of your open mouth. it seems that the most important thing is the good result, loosing the excitement of the route.Let's say it's a well done book that I wouldn't give as a present.

Spectacular
I could look at this book every day. Unlike some books which include some basic techniques and then load all the good stuff into the gallery, this book is all in. Each of the artists represented here has very generously shared amazing techniques and accompanied them with easily understood directions. I really enjoyed this book from cover to cover. There's not a project here that I don't want to try. And then, just as you think it can't get any better, there is a fabulous gallery at the end of the book, with the artists sharing even more of their work building on these techniques. I highly recommend it for anyone's library. What a pleasure!

Beautiful!
I loved this book!It gets you wanting to drop the book and make some projects.I work in metal clay and I was really inspired by some of the techniques, as well as adding polymer clay to my own work.

If you can only buy one...
...this is the one I'd recommend. I've been working with polymer clay for 17 years, and I have seen *all* the books. This is the one I recommend to either beginning OR more experienced clayers. A beautiful, interesting, well-done book.

Hands-down best pc book

Interesting Book!
I found this book contains everything for a beginner to get started in the craft of polmer clay.My 15 year-old has already started her project, and I'm into my 4th project.All this production and we have had the book for only 2 weeks.I'm already ordering the polymer clay by the pound.The two ounce packages are wa-a-a-a-y to small for this new found medium!If you are looking for summer projects to keep the kids busy, this is the book for you.Both Mom and the kids will be hooked in no time.

This book is a must for any beginning to intermediate polymer clay crafter or artisan. The projects are beautiful and very "do-able"! Irene's own projects are displayed in very good photos, and are a marvelous source of inspiration for combining techniques and textures. Her tiled mirrors and wall pieces are breathtaking.

Ideas for crafty afternoon
Described basics things, plenty of ideas, however I miss a little bit real basics - how to get to final product. I needed a bit of experience from elswere.

A Great Book Especially for Kids!
My mom bought me this book back when I was little and it was the starting point for me in learning the art of sculpting.The lessons are easy to understand and fun to do so both kids and parents can sculpt together.It can really inspire a creative side in your children that you may not have known was there.Little did my mom know when she bought me this book, years later I would run my very own successful sculpting company.Thank you Barbara Reid for creating such a wonderful book for children!
