Editorial Review

Product Description
This research studied the quantitative modeling of rainfall amount for different eco-climatic regions of Nigeria. The key parameters of the model developed were Cold Cloud Duration and rainfall producing mechanisms.CCD data and rainfall data from existing gauging stations in the different eco-climatic regions of Nigeria for 10 years (1996-2005) were used for this study.Consequently step-wise multiple regression models were run at two levels. The first level had CCD, ITD, DL, and P as the major independent variables; while the second level included CNT in the models. The result of the first hypothesis showed that the CCD alone was not adequate to determine the amount of rainfall in different eco-climatic regions of Nigeria. The combination of CCD and ITD was found to account for greater variability of rainfall amount in the country. The result of the second hypothesis showed that the inclusion of CNT in the modeling did not yield a better result. The study showed clearly that the model involving the CCD at -40 degees Celsius and the ITD was the most appropriate for modelling rainfall amount in Nigeria. ... Read more

Product Description
The investigation improves understanding of theatmospheric transport of ground-level ozone (O3)-areactive oxidant-by better describing itsclimatology, particularly for the mid-Atlanticregion. Hourly ozone data-from the EnvironmentalProtection Agency's (EPA's) Aerometric InformationRetrieval System database-and hourly weatherdata-from the Northeast Regional Climate Center, which archives weather data from the National WeatherService stations-are used in the investigation. Ishow how climatic factors influence the spread andtransport of ozone in Delaware and its neighboringstates. Maps of the spatially interpolated variablesare used to depict spatial patterns and variability.Findings suggest that sea-level pressure, wind speed, cloud cover, relative humidity, and air temperatureinfluence significantly the concentrations of ozonein the mid-Atlantic region. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent technical introduction to global climate change
Whether you are entering a geophysical academic field or just interested in the process of global climate change and whether or not it is happeing, this book provides an excellent introduction to what is really going on in the atmosphere.
Covering not only global warming, but also long term climate change (ice ages), El Nino Southern Oscillation, the ozone hole, and changes in the carbon cycle, this book uses less than 150 pages to provide the reader a strong grasp of how the atmosphere might be changing.
What is missing from the book?Attention is focused only on the technical mechanisms of the role of the atmosphere in global climate change. The book does not address the role of human activites and hence is able to mostly maintain balance. Thus, it is a must read no matter which side of the global warming debate you stand on. ... Product Description
This text provides current, comprehensive coverage of the Earth and its atmosphere as a system. It is a textbook bringing together this complex, diverse, and developing body of knowledge. Graedel and Crutzen examine the process of global change within a broad historical perspective, and offer an account of the physics and chemistry of Earth and its atmosphere, one that underlines the importance of the interactions among biological, physical, chemical, and social processes. Their analysis encompasses ozone holes, air quality, chemical trace species budgets, techniques for climate modelling, and the maintenance of a sustainable biosphere. This text is ideal for students on courses in Earth system science, global change science, atmospheric chemistry, or climate change, and as a supplementary text for those in ecology or meteorology. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Most authoritative review of atmospheric science
This book was written by the worlds no. 1 climate experts: Nobel Laureate Paul Crutzen and Thomas Graedel. If anyone still has any misunderstandings about the inner workings of the climate system - especially as part of the Earth's ecosystem at large - he should read this book. Whatever you want to know about the atmosphere - it is in here, be it atmospheric chemistry, atmospheric physics, the ozone-hole problem, the formation of smog, the greenhouse effect, long-term climate evolution, natural versus man-made changes - just everything. This topic concerns us all, since understanding the science behind global environmental change now may well prove to be crucial for the long-term survival of mankind.

The book is not easy, but it is accessible for an informed lay person. At the same time it is a fabulous resource for a graduate student in the field as well. It would be nice to see more textbooks of this calibre on the market. Well done.

Crutzen is THE authority in the field. Ignoring his warning is like driving a car after a mechanic told you that the brakes are not functioning - which is the current course of action. ... Read more
