In this sharp-witted romantic comedy about the clash of the classes (of all kinds), a poor girl at a rich kids' school ends up working at the school's toniest club-and gets mistaken for a boy!

In this high anticipated title, a kind of cross between HANA-KIMI and BOYS OVER FLOWERS, Haruhi is a scholarship student at an exclusive private school: Ouran High School, where it turns out the bespectacled, short-haired Haruhi is the only student from a lower-middle class family in attendance!

Then, to make matters worse, one day she breaks an $80,000 vase that belongs to one of the campus clubs-a mysterious outfit called the "Host Club," consisting of six superrich (and gorgeous) guys. Haruhi can't afford to pay back the cost of the vase, of course, so she's forced to work for the Host Club! And it's there that she discovers just how rich all the boys are and how different the rich are from you and me...And meanwhile, the eccentric but good-hearted rich boys are shocked to find out how life is on the other side... ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Ouran High School Host Club, Vol 5 Review

Midterm test results are in, and Haruhi is in third place! The other members of the Host Club console her and tell her that it doesn't matter, even as Tamaki frantically searches for his good luck mechanical pencil, until Kyoya informs them that it doesn't matter - if Haruhi does not stay in first place in her year, as required per her scholarship, she risks expulsion!Egads!Panic sets in as we begin the fifth volume of Ouran High School Host Club. They insist that Haruhi choose a tutor to help her ace the makeup exam, and when she doesn't, they choose one for her - the top female student in Tamaki's class. As the girls try to study, the boys are right there, being noisy, and a new problem has cropped up - Tamaki's Beary has gone missing! Will Haruhi be able to snatch first place, and will Tamaki ever find out why his things are going missing, and why?

Summer vacation has arrived at last! But if the twins think they are free to sleep in, then they don't know Tamaki Suoh very well!Tamaki is in a panic - he's been calling Haruhi for three days straight and no one answers, so he jumps to the conclusion that she has been kidnapped! The twins speculate that she was either sold into slave labor in order to pay a debt or she and her father did a flee by night. The truth is not quite so dramatic - Haruhi is in Karuizawa, working at a pensione for summer break, while her dad is on a trip. The pensione is owned by Misuzu, a flambuoyant crossdressing friend of Ranka's, and she is not only pleased with how hard Haruhi works, but she is thrilled when the good looking members of the Host Club show up, looking for her.Haruhi tries to get them to leave but when it is brought up that one of the host club rules prohibits taking a job, what can she do?Tamaki has dreams of being waited upon in bed by a uniformed Haruhi - of course that doesn't come to pass. And though Misuzu loves having the boys there, there is only room for one to stay, so they have to work for it, with a refreshing work tournament. The boys pull out all stops to win, and when the winner is announced, the losers have to leave.Which is no hardship, they all have summer homes nearby, still plenty close enough to keep an eye on Haruhi!

When an old friend of Haruhi's turns up at the pensione unexpectedly, a guy she knew from junior high, the club goes on the defensive, certain that he is an old flame, and tensions rise as they work overtime to protect their girl.In an unusual turn of events, Kaoru requests that Haruhi go out with Hikaru on a date!Everything is planned out, but when they go, do you think the boys will be far behind, and in disguise?Of course they will!It starts out terribly, and they both seem bored, until Haruhi starts to do what pleases her, and the mood swings.Things come to a crux when they separate, Hikaru leaving her, unaware of her feeling toward thunderstorms. When Tamaki tells him, he saves the day, and all's well that ends well.

Summer is over, back at school, a small girl comes into the Host Club, and instantly mistakes Tamaki for her brother!Of course he is confused, as he has no sister, and no one knows who she is.Out of her small mouth comes such words as male harem, debauchery, megane and Lolita!Who is this child? She turns out to be the sister of Umehito Nekozawa, president of the black magic club.Tragically, she is afraid of the dark, and he the light, so it's impossible for the two of them to have a relationship.Or is it?Ouran Host Club to the rescue!

Another enchanting volume in the Host Club series. Each story is interesting, and draws us more deeply into the lives of our characters.I love the way that Haruhi handles these guys and doesn't let them get to her.I have to say I was also glad Ranka wasn't in this one, as he gets on my nerves. The date with Hikaru was enlightening, as was what Tamaki did to bridge the crisis. Also, the story with the little girl is totally endearing and will pluck on your heart strings.Great series, this is a must read volume, and full speed ahead toward the rest!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent manga -- well worth reading

5-0 out of 5 stars The twins play detective, and the race for the Central Salon is on!
Volume 6 of the Ouran High School Host Club begins with a plot, cloaked in secrecy and mystery!

The Host Club are playing a game together - it's called "Stinking Rich".Tamaki ends up a poor man, and Haruhi destitute, although she is unaware of what that entails. It is a penalty game, and as Kyoya is the winner, they must be his slave for two weeks!Meanwhile, Ouran High School is preparing for its school festival. The twins, for their class, are setting up a private detective agency, and they will provide clues for their customers to follow, not to mention that they are doing the costumes themselves. For prizes, of course.

In some ways the Ouran school festival is no different than others, with the students putting on shows to amuse their family and friends. But there is a difference.Namely, in the amount of money everyone is willing to spend to do so.Vast amounts, even.Ridiculous amounts. The merchants love it, of course, and they are having a field day.Placement during the festival is everything - the more centrally one is placed, the more attention one receives. Therefore the Central Salon is the most desireable place to be, and the most sought after. This year's race for the Central Salon includes the Host Club. But there is a problem. The Host Club has been receiving threatening letters made of cut out letters warning them to back out of the Salon Race or else. What are they to do?This calls for all the members of the Host Club to put on their thinking clubs and solve this puzzle, or face the consequences!

The Football Club is also in contention for the Central Salon.Their President, Kuze, has an orange fetish. And, interestingly, the threatening notes smell of oranges!Coincidence, or not?It turns out that Kuze and Kyoya are childhood friends. There appears to be a personal grudge here.Things just might get ugly.

Kyoya's sister has come to visit, as we get a glimpse into the Ohtori household.Kyoya is surprised to find out that his sister is in communication with Tamaki - together they are making a map of places for commoner's gourmet food.Although he is happy to see his sister, their father seems to be of the opinion she should be in her own household, not unexpectedly visiting with them.He has some very strange ideas, and doesn't seem too warm toward Kyoyo either.

The race for the Central Salon has come down to two contenders now - the Football Club, and the Host Club. The year before, the matter was settled over a chess game. This year's challenge won't be quite so cerebral - instead they are to compete in a cross-campus Ultra Race!Sounds very physical indeed!Things are getting very intense.Kyoya requests that Haruhi memorize the blueprints to the school! As she traverses the campus in order to do so, she sees an interesting sight - the Football Club President talking to one of the Student Council members - a female one at that. What is going on?She's the one that gave the Host Club a chance to withdraw from the race.

It is the day of the big race, and suddenly there are new entrants. Each group is given a prescribed route, at various points they will have questions to answer before they can proceed. All those who pass go on, the others are eliminiated. The final participants are given a set of clues for a hidden location where a crown will be hidden - he who gets the crown, gets the Central Salon. And they're off!

After the race comes the School Festival, and the school is busy with family and friends of the students.Famous people are everywhere. The twins' beautiful mother takes time to give Haruhi fashion tips.Hunny has brought some Venetian cakes - only $100 each!Haruhi is surprised to learn that Hunny and Mori have younger brothers. Tamaki's father and grandmother are there, but not his mother. She asks Tamaki, he replies that she is somewhere in France, a rather vague response.Tamaki happily greets his grandmother - but the woman disdains to have anything to do with him, pronouncing him filthy! The Host Club rallies around their leader, and entice him to begin the carriage rides.Haruhi later asks about the story behind her behavior, and she learns the details of Tamaki's birth.

The twins are bored, and that is never a good thing. But the Host Club are wise to their mock fights, and no longer believe in them. But a food fight which arises from their boredom has unexpected consequences, when the vice principal is inadvertently involved, and takes them to task. But talking to him has an unexpected result - they find themselves on a quest for a mysterious soup!

Another fabulous volume of Host Club!In this volume, we learn more about the backgrounds of some of the members of the Host Club. For instance - Tamaki lives in his father's second family mansion, and is not allowed into the first one.We discover why not. And we learn that Kyoya is the third son, and therefore has to try harder in order to get anywhere. The cuteness factor is "out of this world".And the relationship between Tamaki and Haruhi just keeps on getting better! The artwork, as always, is wonderful. There is a great picture at the beginning of chapter 23 picturing Tamaki as Sherlock Holmes, complete with meerschaum, and Haruhi as his fairy assistant, in a maid's outfit!I love this series, and could read it forever!

5-0 out of 5 stars Ouran High School Host Club
I had to keep reading. I love this series. It's always funny, with never a dull moment.

5-0 out of 5 stars More Ouran Goodness!
The Ouran High School Host Club manga, I'm pleased to say, is as wonderful and laugh-out-loud funny as the anime. I'm eagerly collecting the volumes as they are published in English now, and though some storyline details have been changed slightly, I recognize plot lines that were used in anime episodes that I have watched. I love this series. <3 If you like comedy and parodies of cliches and you haven't tried this already, you should! ... Read more

Now an animated series!R to L (Japanese Style). Mei, wanting Haruhi to face up to her feelings, leaves out a magazine that has a checklist for determining whether a girl is in love. As Haruhi reads through the checklist, she realizes that one host may have captured her heart without her even knowing… In this screwball romantic comedy, Haruhi, a poor girl at a rich kids' school, is forced to repay an $80,000 debt by working for the school's swankiest, all--male club--as a boy! There, she discovers just how wealthy the six members are and how different the rich are from everybody else.... ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Yay!Back to the funny!
I was pretty depressed at the overall tone of volume 12.There was a lot of introspection, and the club was split up in various places, so a lot of the humor that springs from the twins goading Tamaki, or Kyoya goading Tamaki, was missing.Luckily, things are back in a big way to being the funny host club I love.Kyoya is back from France, and Tamaki seems perfectly normal and back to his old self. There are a few precious panels with my faves Nekozawa and Kasanoda, but not enough...and then there is a little bit of love-introspection, but it's done in a funny way.Haruhi still seems like she's in the background here, but I don't care because it's well done.Mei comes back as a deus ex machina, but Ranka is not in the story at all.Oh well!Looking forward to #14! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Ouran High School Host Club
I had to keep reading. I love this series. It's always funny, with never a dull moment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Featuring the infamous Alice of Wonderland episode!

Volume 4 of Ouran High School Host Club begins with Haruhi's cross-dressing daddy catching her and Tamaki on the floor in a rather incriminating position - and of course he assumes the worst!Tamaki flails, attempting to placate the strange parental unit, and things are looking dire when the twins unexpectedly barge in.When it looks as though Tamaki is about to confess to having feelings for Haruhi, he ends up saying she is like a daughter to him! What an idiot!Hail hail, the gang's all here and, interestingly, Ranka knows who everyone is!It seems that he has an informer within the club, a regular correspondent - who turns out to be none other than Kyoya!(Which explains where he got the pictures of Haruhi previously).Ranka and the boys settle down to a nice talk about Haruhi (except for Tamaki, who is hiding in the closet), and we catch some interesting glimpses of her childhood.Haruhi has gone to the store alone, and an upset Tamaki dashes out of the house and catches up with her, so she takes him with her.He is acting just like a little boy - cute and sniffling and sad.Unbeknownst to either of them, they are being followed!

Haruhi and Tamaki shop, and he is amazed by everything (having led a sheltered rich boy life, he's never been in this sort of poor person's supermarket).Haruhi has to keep a close eye on him, he wants everything. The rest of the gang shows up, and Ranka gets a private word with Tamaki.(Apparently he's been hiding and watching Haruhi shop since she was a young girl). He lets Tamaki know that he is not ready to let his daughter go, not yet.

Valentine's Day is usually an exciting day for the Host Club, but calamity strikes when Hunny is found to have a cavity and Mori forbids him sweets - including Valentine's Day candy!Such a tragedy! He is devastated, of course, and the Host Club is shaken because they are all forbidden the same by Tamaki,as a show of solidarity with their comrade. But it's very hard on them, and on the clients as well, because by tradition Japanese girls go a bit crazy, giving chocolates to their favorite guys. Deprived of his usual sweets, Hunny grows darker and darker, revealing a side of him that no one knows - and it's not pleasant! Is there any way for the Host Club to set things to right?

The Host Club has an Alice in Wonderland episode, with not one but several Alices, as they keep changing roles, beginning with Haruhi, who is far too logical to play Alice - she would never follow the White Rabbit! So they use the twins as Alice A and Alice B.A Mysterious Merchant N inserts himself, Hunny shrinks, then Tamaki is thrust into the part of Alice! To Tamaki's dismay, Haruhi's father plays a part as well!Kyoya is the sinister Black Queen, and Renge is the Duchess who gives Alice her child to take care of.The twins reappear as Cheshire Cat doppelgangers.A fun time is had by all in this twist on the classic story!

In Episode 16, the Ouran High School Newspaper Club, having hit 10% circulation, decides it needs to do something drastic to prevent possible shutting down of the club, as well as expulsion.Luckily the Host Club "plays" into their hands, a freak accident leaving Tamaki in the Newspaper Club's debt.Learning of their plight, he becomes their crusader - determined not to see their family fall apart - and maybe endangering the very existence of the Host Club and its secrets to do so!Everyone but Tamaki thinks the Newspaper Club is up to no good - what is the real reason behind his sponsorship of them, and will he see the light of truth before it's too late for the Host Club?Haruhi learns something interesting about Tamaki in this episode, something the others aren't aware she doesn't know, as they all do.

A bonus episode is entitled Love Egoist.Sumire is the smartest and prettiest girl at her school, but unbeknownst to her fellow students, she has a secret - inside, she has a very wicked personality!Sumire has a crush on the chemistry teacher, Mr. Saginuma, who is only 25, but she is afraid to approach him, afraid he'll find out what she really is like. And he is so sweet, and good, and helpful, and everyone loves him.But one day she learns that appearances are quite deceiving, and he recognizes her for a kindred spirit, thus beginning an odd sort of relationship between them.A rather twisted sort of love/hate.Can this end well for either of them, and should it?

This volume of Ouran Host Club is awesome, particularly the Alice in Wonderland episode!I'd already heard so much about it at the 2009 BishieCon, when the staff put on a Host Club event, dressed as the members of the Club.If you enjoy the original Alice, I think you'll love this one.I love the growing relationship between Haruhi and Tamaki, and seeing other facets of their personalities.A bonus episode called Ouran Suspense Theatre has the mangaka posing some what-if scenarios, including a Hunny that gains weight in proportion to what he eats and Kyoyo and Tamaki exchanging inner parts.I have to say I don't care for Haruhi's father at the moment, but I'm not sure why.Maybe because he is so hard on Tamaki. And while he seems to be clinging in some ways, he's distant in others.Maybehe'll grow on me.This is definitely a don't miss volume if you're reading the Host Club!

5-0 out of 5 stars Ouran High School Host Club, Vol 3 Review

Summertime, and the livin' is easy! Now that school's out, the privileged members of the Host Club have more time on their hands, so of course their thoughts turn to their favorite member - Haruhi! While basking in the comfort of Kyoyo's family resort, which had left Haruhi singularly unimpressed, she did express a surprising interest in going to the beach. So, it's off to the beach for the Host Club! While Club President Tamaki has visions of watching the sea with a bikini-clad Haruhi, the reality doesn't quite match his hopes.Haruhi is not in a swim suit, and some of the host club customers have come along so they can't even force her to wear a bathing suit, lest she give herself away, which would be no good. They are at Nekozawa's private beach, and it's more than a little creepy, which seems rather fitting for the president of the black magic club. The twins, Kaoru and Hikaru, who are always up to something, come up with a game to play - who can find Haruhi's weakness first - contest to end at sunset the next day, the winner to receive assorted photos of Haruhi's middle school days, courtesy of Kyoyo (who has his ways).None of their schemes work. When Haruhi catches some bullies terrorizing the customers, she steps up to the plate and stands up to them, rather than calling for the other hosts, and ends up being thrown into the sea, with Tamaki jumping in after her.An argument ensues between them afterward - Tamaki is furious that she did not call for them, and he refuses to speak to her until she admits her mistake, which she refuses to do!

The boys (and Haruhi) are staying in the Nekozawa mansion, while the girls are put up at a nearby Hotel. The weather has turned sour, so they are forced to turn to indoor activities.Nekozawa has a very disturbing board game which they play which predicts unsettling future possibilities, such as "You break your left wrist in an automobile accident in five years."It's a gloomy mansion, dark and forboding, which the storm doesn't help, and Tamaki is sulking, cause he and Haruhi aren't speaking - when Haruhi shows up unexpectedly wearing a dress that her dad packed for her, having found the circuit breaker and flipped it. At least they have light snow. At dinner, Haruhi overdoes the giant tuna and crab, for which she pays later by being ill, dashing into the nearest room in order to do so, which just happens to be Kyoyo's.When the vice president unexpectedly comes on to her, how is she going to react?More importantly, how will Tamaki react?

Haruhi is late in arriving at the host club, having had to go and get instant coffee for the twins, and running through the school gates, she barrels into a tall figure, who instantly pegs her for a girl!Haruhi receives an escort to the club, where she discovers the guys are dressed as European knights, and being all kinds of chivalric.Haruhi's benefactor is joined by two girls, and they too fuss over Haruhi - as a girl, although the guys of the club are denying it.Tamaki challenges them, recognizing that they do not even go to Ouran, and the truth is revealed - they are from Saint Roberia Womens Institute's "White Lily Club", commonly known as the Zuka Club - a club for women, of women, created by women, and for women. In other words, even Haruhi's benefactor is a woman! They decide that Haruhi needs to be liberated, and not only that she should transfer to their school, and join their club.Or else, they might just have to spill the beans at Ouran about what she is.Even Tamaki begins to wonder if this might not be what is best for Haruhi. Will they lose her to a women's school?

Halloween has arrived! When Haruhi shows up for school, she is surprised to learn there are no classes held on this day!(Not because of Halloween, per se, but because of grading exams).Instead there is a schoolwide costume party. The twins, dressed as angels, badger Haruhi for treats, and intend to keep it up all day.But Tamaki has a counter plan!Haruhi just wants to go to the library to study, alone, but the others are determined to get her into the spirit of things, including wearing a costume. And who is that mysterious figure that Haruhi keeps seeing on the tenth floor of the central wing, which no one else sees?Curiouser and curiouser!

When Tamaki has a nightmare about Haruhi's poverty stricken life, he decides he has to see the real thing for himself, so he calls upon Kyoyo to go with him (who invites the others), and it's time for a field trip to see how poor people live, aka a visit to Haruhi's house, even braving the possibility of running across the crossdressing dad!So on her day off, Haruhi finds herself entertaining her fellow hosts on a shoestring budget!

Another fun volume of the Ouran High School Host Club. The more I read, the more I like.I am especially enjoying watching the growing relationship between Haruhi and Tamaki - not too fast at all, as they both grow and develop. We learn a few new things about Haruhi in this volume, and we get a glimpse into Tamaki's head as well. This is a must read for all shojo fans. It's funny, sweet, cute, adorable and very entertaining, as well as romantic. There is a bonus manga at the end, with a young Haruhi and her dad (before he became a crossdresser) - find out why she doesn't want him to come to school for parents day!I can't wait for the next volume, this one ends on a rather cool cliffhanger!Keep reading this, I know I certainly will!

5-0 out of 5 stars Ouran High School Host Club Review
The Ouran High School Series is a favorite mostly for the 12 to 19 year old crowd. A funny romantic comedy, A commoner girl gets a scholorship to a rich kids school. She appears as a guy because of her unthoughtful self barbering, and her grandpa's glasses. She goes into an 'unused' Music room looking for a quiet place to study, and stumbles upon the Host Club. A group of odd teenage boys: A conseited blonde boy; A short, cute boy and his near-mute companion, and a money-crazy smart kid. She stumbles upon them, and in her confusion breaks an 80,000 yen vase. She is stuck being a host to pay off her debt, and when she accidentally drops her wallet, the club hosts find out she is a girl. She has a natural talent for talking to ladies, so the members are suspicious. None of the ladies can ever know, or her career is over.

This random love comedy keeps you on your toes with hilarious incidents. Read this series, it's awesome! You won't regret it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Spring romantic comedy!
Spring is in the air, and so is the faint scent of insanity. And the second volume of Bisco Hatori's "Ouran High School Host Club" is about both of them -- the Host Club is still dealing with their customers' personal problems, when they aren't romping through expensive problems of their own.

First, the Host Club must deal with an inevitable obstacle: the health exam. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but now they have to keep Haruhi's true gender a secret AND deal with a mysterious doctor. Then the twins have their first ever fight, and it rapidly turns into a crazy feud involving lunches, hair dye and curse dolls -- and it might rip the Club apart.

Then a little boy arrives, demanding that Tamaki teach him how to charm women. Of course, the Club becomes curious about why he's so obsessed with this, and go undercover at the nearby elementary school. Finally, a day at a too-realistic swimming resort goes horribly wrong when Hunny is flushed down the pipes, and the gang has to set out into the jungle to find him.

And there's a bonus story about a teenage girl who is given a love potion by a pair of eccentric twins, so she can try to make her crush fall in love with her. But a punky odd guy ends up drinking it instead, leading to a very unexpected romantic connection.

"Ouran High School Host Club, Vol. 2" is all about fleshing out the boys in the Club. Now that's introduced the main premise and gotten them through some funny little stories, Bisco Hatori shows us some new facets to their personalities -- Tamaki's kindness to a man estranged from his daughter, the twins' impishness, and Mori's quiet devotion to Hunny.

Additionally, Haruhi seems to be making some inroads into the clubs' minds and hearts... especially the King, who flip-flops constantly between wanting to be her protective "father" and wanting to see her in feminine pretty clothes.

But don't worry, there's still plenty of hilarity here -- Tamaki's rambling description of how he was "cursed" and begging Haruhi to check his naughty bits are gutsplitting. And as usual, the gang have plenty of insane schemes, silly costumes and attempts to charm the clientele with their selected acts.

"Ouran High School Host Club, Vol. 2" is a fun extension of a very, very entertaining series, and leaves you hungry for whatever's next.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ouran High School Host Club, Vol 2 Review

Spring has come to Ouran High School, and spring is typified by cherry blossoms, and our six gorgeous hosts - and Haruhi - are hard at work, doing what they do best, dispensing attention to the lucky patrons of the Host Club!Tamaki is his usual charming self, the twins are causing the hearts of their lady guests to swoon with their brotherly devotion, Kyoyo is fattening the purse of the club with his collector photos of memorable occasions, and Mori and Hunny are working in tandem - Mori points out a gaffe on Hunny's part which is potentially disturbing, but the moment is saved!Tamake reveals a certain jealousy at the inequitable amount of time which the twins are allowed to spend with Haruhi, simply because they are in her class. But fortunately, a new crisis turns their attention in another direction - namely, her class is getting their physical exams!Surely all will be revealed at that time, that Haruhi is really of the female persuasion, which will blow her cover at the Host Club.Oh woe is them, what can they possibly do?Never fear, the Host Club is here! And although Tamaki seems to be toying with the idea of Haruhi coming out, in order to openly be with her, he realizes it is in the best interest of the club that her true gender not be revealed. Can they pull this off? How?This will take every bit of cunning and deceit which they possess to protect the honor of the "man" they all care about!

In Episode Five, Kaoru and Hikaru have way too much time on their hands; they've even taken to making composite images of Haruhi with Tamaki's body (a rather disturbing pastime, especially to Tamaki). The bored twins have a chance encounter, despite Tamaki's warnings, with the president of the Black Magic club.An offhand remark between the brothers sparks a terrible conflagration, and they go from being closerthanclose to being totally estranged. They start going to great lengths to maintain separate identities (although they still order the identical lunch at lunchtime), and their battle is tearing the Host Club apart.Haruhi is dragged into the cafeteria by the twins, against her will, and ends up being inundated with the rich kids' lunches, while Tamaki has fantasies of Haruhi making him box lunches! The infighting must be nipped in the bud, before it is allowed to affect the Host Club. Will it continue to escalate before it gets better, or will it all simply explode?

As Episode Six begins, a young boy approaches the portals of the Host Club, and enters to find them in full Arabian dress! His name is Shiro, and he has come with a mission - he wants the King (aka Tamaki) to accept him as an apprentice; he needs to learn how to charm women, and he needs to know stat!Tamaki agrees to take him into the club, and endeavors to teach him his slick and charming ways, but Shiro is painfully honest and rather tactless, such as when he compares one of the guests to a carp.Tamaki tries his best, but the boy is impatient with the lack of results.Curious as to the need for urgency in his actions, the Host Club go undercover to his school, to learn what's what with Shiro, to see what makes him tick, and why his time is so short. This entails going to his elementary school, and forcing Haruhi into a schoolgirl uniform with a very short skirt (to Tamak's great pleasure). As the saying goes, seek and ye shall find - what they find out about Shiro will color their perception of him and lead them on the path to helping him with his quest!

In the next episode, Kyoya has the gang over to his place for some R&R - well, not exactly his place, it's a members only swimming resort, run by the Ohtori group.Located underground in mid Tokyo, it is huge huge huge, has 10 pools and a number of other attractions!Haruhi is there against her will, having been dragged there by Kyoyo's agents, in a Bentley, after school. She doesn't dress out, doesn't want to swim, and wishes there was a wading pool.Of course the privileged members know nothing of what that is.Hunny, wearing a bunny-decorated flotation device, tries to lure Haruhi to the flowing pool with him.An unexpected mishap occurs, and Hunny disappears in a swoosh of water, leaving the rest of the Host Club in an uproar!Braving alligators and piranhas, they set off to rescue to rescue their little mate!Braving the Jungle Zone, they find themselves in the midst of a sudden squall and are forced to take cover, before they begin to organize themselves into a team.Haruhi reassures Mori that Hunny is fine, and an interesting question arises - why hasn't Tamaki expressed a desire to see Haruhi in a swimsuit?Thought provoking, no?Kyoya is forced to inform the Ohtori Aqua Garden HQ of the situation with regard to Hunny being missing - but somehow neglects to mention the others that are there too. Will Hunny be found, and will the others avoid being harmed in the process?

A bonus story in this volume is Romantic Egoist.Yurine is 17 years old, and has been going to the library every day for the past six months to get a glimpse of the guy she has fallen in love with, Terasaki, but doesn't have the nerve to approach.Weird twin sisters, Barako and Nadeshiko, approach Yurine with the solution to her problem, which they have been observing - they have a love potion which they guarantee will make the person who drinks it fall in love with the giving person for two weeks, and after that love will either have grown on its own or it won't.All Yurine has to do is to exchange the potion for his drink! The trouble is that she has trouble even going near him, much less doing anything quite that radical. While she is debatiing doing it or not, another guy, Nozomi, who is in Yurine's class, approaches her, and asks for a drink; without waiting for a response, he chugs the entire love potion - and then begins to act like he really likes her! What is she to do?He's like this slacker punk, the class clown, and most important of all, he isn't Terasaki!Buthe's drunk the potion, and he is obviously enamored of her - what's a girl to do?A weak girl like Yurine just goes along with it, because she isn't the kind to deliberately hurt anyone's feelings, and she begins to spend time with him, almost unwillingly. But once she actually listens to what he has to say, she learns that appearances can be quite deceiving. Now the question becomes, what will she do in two weeks time, when he stops wanting to be with her?

Another charming volume of the very popular Ouran Host Club.It simply drips with fun and humor and romantic moments.By now, you've come to know all the regulars, and they are each developing as personalities in their own right. This volume showcased the twins quite a bit - that was a fun story!Watching Tamaki's obsession with Haruhi is just great fun.The physical exam story has an unexpected twist, and so does Shiro's story.Host Club is not only funny, it's warm and fuzzy too.The artwork really showcases the stories well, and I can easily see why this series is so popular. The extra story was an unexpected treat, and having read it twice now, i will confess that it caused me to tear up both times.Don't hesitate to keep reading the Ouran High School Host Club, it's a very worthwhile read! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Still the funniest series out there.
Tamaki and friends are up to their usual antics in this ninth volume of the series.Note that Amazon's "Book Description" is inaccurate; this is not about Hunny and Chika. It starts out with a flashback to when Tamaki was recruiting the twins for the club, followed by the arrival at Ouran of a European princess who gets Host Club emotions boiling! Then Tamaki takes ill. There is a short piece about the Host Club with Haruhi at her home, and a short issue of Love Egoist which is much less creepy than previous Love Egoists were.

I still love this series best of all the manga I've ever read, and can't wait to get my hands on future volumes. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ouran 8: Just Adds To The Fun
I have been a fan of this series from the beginning, and volume 8 just added to my love. In the later chapters, you could say that 'the plot thickens', though not in a way that I expected!

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great comedic addition to the Host Club series
The book description listed above is slightly inaccurate. The correct preview as shown on the back cover of Volume 8 reads:

The first-years in Class 1-A are taking part in a test of courage, where the loser will receive the dubious honor of being dubbed "Best of Cowards." Kazukiyo Souga, the class president and a fraidy-cat at heart, is happy to be on a team with the levelheaded Haruhi, but will he be able to stomach the antics of his other teammates - the twins Hikaru and Kaoru Hitachiin?

That only describes the first of 5 episodes featured in the eighth volume of Bisco Hatori's series, Ouran High School Host Club. You can expect the same amount of hi-jinks and antics in this volume as in the previous episodes. However, this volume also involves the self-examination of the "family" that Tamaki Suoh, the self-proclaimed host king, has created within the Host Club. Certain characters in the club will come to certain revelations concerning the existing relationships within the host club, most of them revolving around Haruhi Fujioka.

There is also another flashback episode to the beginnings of Kyoya and Tamaki's first meeting and how they came to be friends.

Most of the fun comes in the latter chapters when a kind but fierce-looking 1-D student seeks out the aid of Mori - and consequently the Host Club. It becomes typical Ouran comedy when the interfering members of the club try to re-make the image of Kasanoda-kun, mistakenly/jokingly referred to as Bossa-nova by the male host club members and Casanova by Haruhi. However, Kasanoda threatens to destroy the "family" dynamic when he discovers the Host Club's most highly protected-secret.

Just purchase Volume 8 to find out more about what happens next, it's pure comedic gold.

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't Stop Laughing
I loved this volume because this is the volume that introduces the delightfully over-the-top Mei, the daughter of Ranka's transvestite friend, and the twin's equally over-the-top mother. The entire summer break is covered in one volume, so as you can imagine, there's never a dull moment. They go to a fair, sing karaoke, ride the subway... my only complaint is that Mei's fashion show didn't become part of the story- Kyoya would want to make money selling the pictures, Haruhi would be trying to hide so she wouldn't have to participate, and Tamaki would be chasing Haruhi around trying to get her to wear something incredibly girly. (Translation: Business as usual for the Host Club.) Oh well, volume 10 is still really good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Never failing hillarity
Ouran is always guaranteed to make me laugh out loud.I literally find myself counting the days until the next installment is released. And now finally it's getting to the good stuff...how will this love triangle play itself out?Well, maybe it's more like a love square...maybe more polygonal than that...Overall, awesome as always!

5-0 out of 5 stars I have to agree...Ouran is still the top of the heap
I just love all the characters in this series and Hatori is so skilled at adding a tiny quirk to someone's expression to make me laugh out loud.Kanazuki is explaining about her curse on Hunny, and the sketch of Nekozawa has those O O eyes like Tamaki's "upset lord" expression usually has...it's just so funny to see the imperturbable Nekozawa (whose eyes are rarely even seen) reacting like the crazy and emotional Tamaki. There's more, but these tiny details just reinforce for me what's the most amusing manga out there.I'd still like to see more Nekozawa and Bossa Nova and less of the obnoxious twins, but...we can't have everything, can we?I'm eagerly looking forward to volume 11 so I can find out how Kasanoda and Nekozawa do in a sports tournament!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Fun Continues in a Great New Ouran Volume
This volume begins with a Hunny-centric episode, as Black Magic Club member Kanzuki is convinced that Hunny "stole her soul" since she can't stop thinking about him. Since she can only relate to people in terms of curses, she decides to steal his soul back (even though her curses turn out to really just be elementary school love charms).

Most of the rest of the volume involves a new character, Mei, the daughter of Misuzu (the transvestite pension owner from volume 5). Mei wears too much make-up, has a very fake tan and is a bit rough around the edges, but also brings a nice new dynamic to the manga. Misuzu enlists Haruhi to be Mei's friend and the other Host Club members of course decide to get involved as well, especially Tamaki, who decides to secretly help heal the estranged relationship between Mei and her father.

The last episode sets up the Sports Festival arc that is going to play a large part in Volume 11. After a confrontation between Kyoya and Takeshi Kuze (the football club president), Tamaki decides that a sports festival is needed to resolve the issue and the host club members get divided up between the red and white teams (Kyoya, Hunni & Kaoru on white, and Mori, Hikaru, Tamaki and Haruhi on red).

Every time that I think Ouran can't get any better, it does. Not only is this volume hilariously funny, but the romantic entanglements and character development continues, with Haruhi and Tamaki getting closer to figuring out they like each other (although they're still both very dense) and another host club member realizing he also has feelings for Haruhi. In terms of character development, Kaoru in particular has some nice moments, both with Haruhi and with Hikaru. There are also appearances by Nekozawa and Kasanoda (who is now my favorite minor character) and greater insight into the relationship between the twins and their parents.

Also, check out Mori's love of baby chicks. It's never really mentioned, but you can see him looking (and apparently purchasing) a baby chick at the summer festival and the baby chick is sitting on Mori's head when they are eating cake at the twins' house. In the last episode, he's reading a book on how to raise a chicken. Since Mori doesn't really talk much, I think it's cute that he's getting a silent subplot.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bisco Hatori has done it again!
Another great volume from Bisco Hatori! Fans of this series will love reading this volume over and over again.

First, we get another more indepth look at the Black Magic Club! Plenty of fun scenes for Nekozawa fans. We meet another Black Magic Club member, Kanazuki, who is in love with Hunny. You'll enjoy every scene of 'black magic' she does in her quest for Hunny's soul.

In the next episode, we meet Mei Yasumura, Misuzu's daughter. For the next few episodes, we get to see more of Haruhi outside of the Host Club as she interacts with Mei and helps Mei in her crush on Tamaki. In episode 44, weget to travel back to Misuzu's pension and meet Dark Lord #3 (#1 being Kyoya and #2 Bossa Nova). Episode 45 brings us to the Twin's mansion and we get to see a bit more into the world of them and us. Somebody also finally admits out loud that they also like Haruhi.

All in all, it's a very good volume, any and every Host Club fan should jump on the chance to buy it! Contains Episode 41 through 46 and ends with a great cliffhanger. I'm already awaiting volume 11 in november! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Drama, Sports, and Yams, Oh My!
The ever scheming Kyoya and the consistently conceited Tamaki compete against each other, the twins are fighting over the same girl, Honey and Mori are consoling the twins, and Haruhi is (understandably) annoyed and confused by everything. Also, there is a sports festival, so of course there is a bread tasting contest, a candy art contest, obstacle courses that involve eating cake... (hmm, sounds more like a food festival). There's a treasure map. Someone wears a loincloth in public. There's also a tanuki, an animal which looks like a racoon, wrecking havoc. And yams. Lots and lots of yams.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm not a big anime fan of this particular genre...

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great volume
This is another great installment of my favorite manga series. Ouran has started to get a little more serious and emotional, especially regarding the Tamaki/Haruhi/Hikaru love triangle, but anyone who has been following the series knew this was coming. For me at least, this is a welcome addition to the story. Bisco Hatori has been able to keep the lighthearted romantic humor in the series while allowing the characters to grow and develop. Way to go! I can't wait for volume 12!

4-0 out of 5 stars Still a very funny series, though this volume is serious
Hatori strikes again with this very amusing volume containing the Sports Festival, an encounter with a wild tanuki, and some personal introspection (mostly on Hikaru's part).Nekozawa (red team) at the sports festival was the funniest thing in the book. I really laughed like crazy at Kyoya's (white team) "tactic" to psych out Nekozawa during the hurdles race. There's not much Kasanoda (red team) - just a few scenes with him talking to Haruhi at the festival and giving her some yams from the gardening club later.Too bad, because I love him and Nekozawa more than the host club guys.Tamaki is worse than usual throughout this volume:more full of himself, but less amusing. And it starts to get heavy when Hikaru spends pages thinking about things. But this is relieved by the story of Mori and the wild tanuki as well as the ending bit about Chika and Hunny and Mori's pet baby chick.I would say this is a strong volume, probably on a par with the volume about the twins' youth & how Tamaki recruited them.(Volume 9?)

I do wonder if there are new translators working on the series.Kyoya seems to be translated much more "roughly" than previously, although there are a couple scenes where he merits this because of anger, and some of the twins' talk is a bit more stilted than their usual artless chatter.

Still, keep up the good work, folks!!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Must Read
A lot happens in volume 14 in terms of plot and character development. Mei bluntly tells Haruhi some things that make Haruhi think about herself and how her thoughtlessness hurts others. Tamaki has a few revelations of his own in regard to his feelings for Haruhi. Hikaru was seriously cut short in this volume. A new character is introduced. The new character seems to have some ulterior motives. Hatori said at the end of the volume that she didn't like where the chapter ended, but she had reached her page limit. If she had just (1) expanded on the scene between Hikaru and Haruhi and (2) added a scene between Mai and Kaoru (who seem to have some interest in each other i think)... then this would not have been a problem. I hate where this volume ended, especially since it will be awhile before the next volume comes out.

4-0 out of 5 stars Funny and full of heart
Wow, we actually see some of our favorite characters developing and growing up a bit. Thanks to the forthright Mei, who pulls no punches when dealing with Haruhi, Haruhi comes to some introspection that broadens her mind and allows her to deal (mostly in an adult, calm manner) with her feelings for Tamaki.Tamaki himself morphs a bit from "clueless idiot king" to quiet and wise - but only a bit, because he wouldn't be Tamaki otherwise!Hikaru is unpleasant and out of character in this, enough that I drop an entire star.By this point Kaoru seems to be relegated to supporting character status - he barely has more lines than Mori.

Wretchedly lacking in Nekozawa (even in the short "supporting character" sections at the beginning of each chapter), this volume is otherwise pretty good.A good balance of funny and feeling. There is a gorgeous guest drawing of Princely Nekozawa and Dark Nekozawa together, which took my thoughts down a dark path :-) but...the book is good; I'm eagerly waiting for the next volume. ...
