From the supplier: Colorado voters thoroughly defeated a ballot measure to give tax credits for private school tuition in 1998. Sixty-two of the state's 63 counties voted against the amendment, defeating it 60.3% to 39.7%. This measure was the only voucher-style initiative in the US during this election year, and would have provided a large tax deduction for parents of private-school students, including religious schools. This initiative was supported by the Religious Right and opposed by Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

Excerpt:The Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception is a cathedral serving Roman Catholics in Denver, Colorado. It is located at the corner of Logan St. and Colfax Avenue in the North Capitol Hill neighborhood in central Denver. It is the home to the Archdiocese of Denver, and holds three daily masses and six Sunday masses, with a capacity of 800. It also serves the community, giving between 50,000 and 60,000 lunches to the poor every year. Construction of the cathedral started in 1902, but was not completed until 1911, with a final cost of approximately $500,000. Its inaugural Mass was held on October 27, 1912, and it was consecrated in 1921. The cathedral was raised to a minor basilica on Christmas of 1979, one of only 29 American cathedrals with that title. On August 13, and 14 1993 for World Youth Day, Pope John Paul II, held mass at the cathedral, one of only a few cathedrals in the United States to hold that honor. The church's spires were struck by lightning in 1912 and 1997, each time causing damage that had to be repaired. The cathedral's architect was Leon Coquard of Detroit, who designed the cathedral in a French Gothic style. The architecture share many similarities with the 13th century Saint Nicholas Collegiate church (collégiale Saint-Nicolas) from Munster, Moselle in France. The bishop Nicholas C. In 1860, Prince Edward of Wales visited Dwight on a hunting expedition for wild birds and attended a church service at the Pioneer Gothic Church. Between 1869 and 1891 Dwight experienced four major fires, all of which the wooden church survived. The building served as a church and a township hall for Dwight Township, it is operated by the Dwight Historical Society. The use of board and batten siding, and the chamfered tower-roof corners emphasize the Gothic Revival building's vertical nature.The Pioneer Gothic Church is an example of wooden framed, Carpenter Gothic church building. It is an example of a rare type of building, as wood was scarce and fire frequent on the prairie that covered parts of early Illinois.
