Kids Will Learn, Adults Will Be Shocked
I am a bit ashamed to admit how little I knew about the Constitution.I bought this book for my nephew, but wound up reading it myself before giving it to him.

What I like about this book is that it tries very hard to not lean to the left or to the right.In fact, the book never mentions political parties.It doesn't even have the word "democrat" or "republican" in it.It is very strictly a blueprint for reading a 200+ year old document.

The phrase "rules of the Constitution" is used repeatedly in this book.I think the book effectively emphasizes that there are some laws that are just against the rules, no matter how you interpret the Constitution.

It doesn't read like a history book or a teacher's lecture. It is written in very simple language.The book presents some historical context for the Constitution, but doesn't go too deeply into it.The focus is more on what the constitution says and how to look at what the government does today and decide if it is following the rules.

Constitution Book
It's the Constitution of the United States; what's NOT to love? The book is small, compact, clear and easy to read - I wanted that very thing to carry with me for easy reference and this is it.Great book and of course, love the content :)

An American Must Own
In September 2010 I purchased several copies of The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of America. Our present times seem to inspire us to learn more about our form of government and although myself and my family members had been taught this in school none of us had copies on hand.These copies are well appointed paperback books and easy to read.They were printed by Soho books the day after I ordered them with the print date stamped on the back page. They were promptly shipped through Amazon as is everything I have ordered from Amazon.I would recommend that every American household have this copy of The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of America.

I am going back to school to become a paralegal and I thought I should buy a copy of the US Constitution for my future use.This book is great.It lets you know what parts of the original document have been amended and when; all of the amendments are in the book.It also has the Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation which is an added bonus.

Perfect To Share

In 1883 the Supreme Court upheld a state law prohibiting intermarriage between blacks and whites. The logic was that punishment was the same for offenders of both races. 10 years earlier, law-school graduate Myra Bradwell was denied admission to the bar in Illinois. The reasoning was that "Proper timidity and delicacy evidently unfits (women) from many of the occupations of civil life." Although these were diverse cases, they shared a common bond. Both denied equality, yet both followed the 1868 ratification of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. In "Even the Children of Strangers," Donald W. Jackson unravels the complex meanings of equal protection doctrine and its various interpretations over the last 134 years. Characterised by anything but consensus, constitutional law and democratic theory have been tested in the Supreme Court's evolving applications of such landmark decisions as "Plessy versus Ferguson" ("separate but equal"), "Brown versus Board of Education", and the "Bakke case".Jackson explores the conceptual basis for a variety of "pecking orders" (or discriminations) - most notably race and sex, but also wealth, occupation, and education - that have been used to justify special privilege, status or rewards. He also examines the tensions between equal protection and American individualism. After making a comparison between US equal protection laws and those in Canada and India and certain provisions of international law, he offers possible ways to resolve apparently intractable conflicts between individualism and affirmative action policies. An assumption of human equality is always appropriate and the burden of proof should always be on those who want to justify treating people differently, for whatever reason, Jackson argues. Great Book
This is a great book but the size of the book is a bit small. This version was only 6.75 X 4 inches not the normal 6 X 9 inches. Other than that the book was perfect.

Nothing new to add except another vote of confidence
I just want to say I am another person who has several editions of the 'Papers' and strongly believe that this is definitely the preferred one for study.Having read some of the other customer reviews, I think they have pretty much covered what makes this such a good edition.As I like this edition so much and use it regularly, I just wanted to boost the total number of positive 5 star ratings.Buy this one.I also recommend a good historical account of the writing of the 'Papers'.Libertys Blueprint: How Madison and Hamilton Wrote The Federalist, Defined the Constitution, and Made Democracy Safe for the World
