2-0 out of 5 stars Short Story
This is short story of the initial evacuation of Landing, passed off as a novel. It is not bad, but not worth the price of a book

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
Anne McCaffrey stumbles in this mini-story about dolphins helping evacuate the original landing site on Pern after the disastrous eruption of Mt. Garben. This is really a story-fragment, not a full-fledged novella.Unlike -Nerilka's Story-, which *was* a separate novel about the lady who sooths the heartbreak of Moreta's main squeeze, -The Dolphin's Bell- requires that 1 read -Dragondawn- to understand who each character is, & why we should give a damn. This is information that simply is *not* given - &, consequently, we don't.

Don't read this unless you've got -Dragonsdawn- & the time to check out who's who.

4-0 out of 5 stars From the author of Tales of Ancient Xenar
I had listened to this story on audio and enjoyed it very much.It details a very long and hard fought journey undertaken by humans with the help of dolphins. This is one of the few McCaffrey stories I've read.Almosta year later after reading this story, I found a song that very well fits the theme of the story. The song is alled High water and its performed by ush.Its on their Hold your Fire CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars The other side of the story!
Another side story well worth reading. This is the story of the second crossing, from the Southern Continent to the Northern Continent.Jim Tillek is in charge of moving all the equipment to the north. This gives more background on the part the dolphins played in Pern's History.

To get the sull feeling of this book, make sure that you have read Dragonsdawn, as the events go together. What is nice about this story, is that there is no need to feel in the background information, as that is what Dragonsdawn is for.The story starts right where it needs to and continues on.It is really nice that we get to know Jim Tillek more.Anne did a wonderful job and the story flows rather smoothly.

A must read for Pern fans, as this gives us all more detail and more background information.A nice short story, that is wonderfully written.

1-0 out of 5 stars At best, Filler
Nothing much happens in this story. It's a ripoff of Voyage of the Dawn Treader with a bit of Gulliver's Travels added in an attempt to provide some flavor. The whole book feels like it was written as an afterthought. You could easily skip it and miss nothing in the story.

5-0 out of 5 stars good series
I read this series of books as a kid and was missing this one book, got it to finish out the collection

1-0 out of 5 stars Seven Sleeper Series
I hated the Seven Sleeper series! Morris just ripped off ideas from C.S. Lewis' "Chronicles of Narnia." Aslan=Goel, Voyage of the Dawn Treader=Voyage of the Dolphin (And one of the main characters name is DAWN!), and the whole Underworld concept is stolen right from "The Silver Chair!" (...)

5-0 out of 5 stars If you like Dolphins and want to learn more about them...
read this series. I read this series two summers ago when my friend loaned them to me. I was sick most of the summer. Even though I was stuck inside, the books took my mind to out on the ocean, and before I knew it, I felt like I was there swimming and learning about dolphins myself.
~MY ONLY CONFUSION about this series is that when I went to buy the series for myself all the books I found had a different author, same story, same cover, but different author on the front cover. All my friend's books say Lucy Daniels one the front as theauthor, but all the books I find online and in stores have Ben M. Baglio written on the front as the author.
~Can someone please explain this to me?

4-0 out of 5 stars The Best Dolphin Diaries Book So Far
I thought this book was very good! Now every animal related thing I come upon makes me think of the dolphin experiences I'm having reading this addicting series. This story made me feel so many emotions...in one sad part, tears literally started welling in my eyes. This book keeps you in suspense, and there are a few unexpected parts here and there.Though some characters can be over emotional, and dolphins aren't always as friendly and inviting to people as they make them in Dolphin Diaries, I still enjoy this series, and am now feeling rather anxious to get the next book!Girls who love dolphins will especially enjoy this series, and some girls who aren't interested in dolphins may even find themselves enjoying it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing
The whole 'Dolphin Diaries' series was started by Lucy Daniels. Mr Baglio is v. disappointing and not nearly as good as Mrs Daniels. I mean, how would u feel if someone else wrote the next Harry Potter book when from the name it didnt even sound like the person had anything to do with JK Rowling? In my opinion- Baglio is an imposter and it was hardly even worth buying the book in the first place.

3-0 out of 5 stars Wish I had known
My daughter was reading the whole series and I had stopped pre-reading them.Wish I had known that there would be one dolphin stillborn and two dolphin life births so I would at least have been ready for the conversation.I know it is natural and was not gross, but it is sad.4th or 5th graders might be fine but especially if you have a precoscious reader, this is your warning. (still have not read them all but most of the rest of this 10 book series seems fine.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfecto!
I REALLY liked this book, it taught me more about dolphins. In the story, Three dolphins in a research center called "Dolphin Haven" are pregnant. Their names are Misty, Bella, and Evie. For Misty, this is her first time having a calf, Bella is a experienced mother, and in the past all of Evie's calves have died.... This book is great for people of all ages! If you liked this book, read the other books in the Dolphin Diaries series.

4-0 out of 5 stars An enchanting Dolphin Music
Dolphin music is an exciting and contemporary story about a computer world which seem to be possible to control our future life. The writer can encourage the reader continueusly by using many techniques, such as giving the description of characters, showing the map, using the easy words and idioms and writing in the chronological order.
However, there are some weak points in some situations, such as it seems to be too easy for two persons (Saul and Sue) to rescue 8 dolphins from the Music Romm where is in the mountain and there is accidentally no protection in that special place.
In brief, Dolphin Music is the interesting book that the person who love sci-fi story should not miss.

3-0 out of 5 stars It is very easy to understand
When I first saw the title "Dolphin Music". I thought it was a drama story. But when I read through the book, I discovered it was action sci-fi. Although, the story plot is too simple but I really enjoy it. I like the way Moses imagine about the future world, it is quite possible. The language is very easy to understand that I do not have to use dictionary. But there are something to complain that the story is too clear. I think if it has more mystery and let readers imagine something, this story will be better. Finally, the title "Dolphin music" is not suitable, because the mainidea not reveals the dolphin so much.

3-0 out of 5 stars review book
Dolphin music has two organizations, BEATCON and PACE. BEATCON is a bad organization, suffer dolphin to sing a song by electricity shock and control all people. PACE is a good organization, help dolphin and oppose control's BEATCON.
I think, it is a good book. When I read it, it was exciting for me and I just would like to continue it. When I finish this book, I got many ideas about life and environment protection, have courage to go with the true, don't distress in an old day, and endure to do something. I strongly recommend this book for everyone in order to protect our environment.

3-0 out of 5 stars summary of dolphin music
The year is 2051.Control,the government of Europe, keep everyone happy because Control creates many high technology for example eye scanner, speker computer, jet cars using wind power, virtual reality, telephone with picture of the other. In the virtual world, you can touch with other people.Control establishes organization called BEATCON.This organization controls every things in life. The leader of this organization is Captain Marrs. He hates terrorist very much.PACE is the other organization that against with BEATCON.Captain Marrs alleges PACE to be terrorist.PACE persuades Saul Grant to help dolphins because BEATCON forces dolphins to sing a song by stimulating with electricity.Because Saul Grant is the music critic about dolphins,he offer himself to help dolphins.Saul Grant and Sue Hunter, member of PACE,enter Music Room without permission and lead the dolphins to release to the sea but at the journey,Captain Marrs finds Saul and Sue.It has fighting between BEATCON and PACE.Eventually,Captain Marrs dies.Dolphins are released to the seaa and are singing the last song.It has the new Controller which permises that in future, the powers of BEATCON will be reduced and the society will free.

2-0 out of 5 stars A very crazy story!!!!!!
My comment

We had to read the book "Dolphin Music" at school and for a schoolbook it is okay. The story is a bit crazy and very boring. The title of the book doesn't fit to the story, because most of the book is about "Control" and "Beatcon", two crazy organisations, and only a little part of the story is about dolphins.
The book is very easy to read, because there aren't any difficult vocabulary.

4-0 out of 5 stars An Old Fashioned Love Story Masterfully Told : Green Dolphin Street
Before reading Green Dolphin Street I had seen the film as a teenager. At that age what primarily interested me was the spectacular earthquake sequence and the tidal wave. Although the movie version followed quite well the novel, as is usually the case, the novel was unequivocally better than the movie. It tells an old-fashioned tale, set in the mid-nineteenth century, of unrequited love, mistaken identity and spiritual redemption. One could even argue that there is the element of women's liberation in the character of Marianne who envies the freedom and self-determination males have and seeks to achieve her own by moulding the character of the man she marries. By way of contrast her sister Marguerite never marries the man she loves because of a cruel twist of fate and eventually becomes a nun believing that this vocation is what has been ordained for her since the beginning of time. If you are a cynic or one who considers predictability a literary demerit, you will probably not get farther than 50 of the 500 plus pages of this book. But if you are not too jaded by modern fiction replete with gratuitous sex and violence, go along with Elizabeth Goudge and Marianne who leave their home in the Channel Islands on a precipitous voyage to New Zealand where they find adventure and a good life.

Product Description
The tragic recognition of the extinction of the Yangtze River Dolphin or baiji in 2007 became a major news story and sent shockwaves around the world. It made a romantic story, for the baiji was a unique and beautiful creature that features in many Chinese legends and folk tales. The Goddess of the Yangtze, as it was known, was also the lone representative of an entire and ancient branch of the Tree of Life. But perhaps the greater tragedy is that its status as one of the world's most threatened mammals had been widely recognized, yet despite wide publicity virtually no international funds became available.

Samuel Turvey here tells the story of the plight of the Yangtze River Dolphin from his unique perspective as a conservation biologist deeply involved in the struggle to save the dolphin. This is both a celebration of a beautiful and remarkable animal that once graced one of China's greatest rivers, its natural history and its role as a cultural symbol; and also a personal, eyewitness account of the failures of policy and the struggle to get funds that led to its tragic demise. It is a true cautionary tale that we must learn from, for there are countless other threatened species that will suffer from the same human mistakes, and whose loss we shall not know until it is too late. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A sad, sombre, frustrating truth
Knowing the outcome of this sad story before you read it makes it hard to bear at times, but it is necessary to understand what conservation entails and how easily it seems to get lead astray. This in a very informative book- not only for our sad loss of this particular species but for conservation of endangered species in general. It made me appreciate just how much it takes to persuade people and organizations to do what I always thought they were meant to do. For example large conservation organizations rejecting the Yangtze River Dolphin's applications for funding because it was too risky, in other words it was already critically endangered. This amazed me, I always assumed that critically endangered animals were conservation organization's top priority. The author, who was involved in the last attempts to save the dolphin and most recent baiji survey, is extremely honest and straight forward. This book outlines many details that are important to the survival of endangered animals and ultimately the survival of our planet. Read this book, not for a fun read, but to enlighten and educate yourself. You will be glad you did.

5-0 out of 5 stars An indictment on the recent extinction of the Baiji
"The baiji is gone, and with it we have lost 20 million years of unique evolution, an entire mammal family, the top predator of the Yangzte ecosystem, the reincarnation of a drowned princess - and one the most enigmatic and beautiful creatures on earth."

Samuel Turvey's detailed account of the entire history of the Baiji, up to untimely extinction (probably in 2006), is a lively, well-written account - an engaging piece of nature and travel writing - but, more importantly, a good summation of all that can go wrong when proper and timely efforts are not made to conserve a critically endangered species. With the historical lack of understanding of conservation in China (and the pressure of development), the mistakes made there are tragic, if understandable.

However, Turvey makes clear that what was needed was repeated time and again by scientists and conservationists at workshops and conferences and in journal papers, official reports and the popular press, but this information was never put into practice.Turvey puts the reader right on the spot at each step of the way, revealing many of the personalities and the dying environment in which the Baiji lived. The relentless threats (including dams, long-line fishing and pollution), political difficulties between countries and even research centres, human-wildlife conflicts, lack of understanding (including mistreatment of captured specimens and failure to attempt a breeding programme) are recounted in Turvey's lively observational style.

Perhaps the image that remains longest is of Qi Qi, a Baiji resident at the Institute of Hydrobiology in Wuhan for 22 years - "footage of Qi Qi swimming round and round his concrete pool played to the soundtrack of a Chinese rendition of 'Que Sera Sera'.It was too unintentionally and horribly poignant for words."

Over 100 large-size, dramatic color photographs taken throughout the world give an up-close and personal look at dolphins--their diversity, physiology, social structure, and environment, as well as other "dolphin mysteries." How intelligent are they? Why do dolphins get stranded on beaches? Are they always as unselfish and good-natured as their reputation suggests? How much pleasure do they take in human company? Stories about "rescue operations" in which dolphins have lured sharks away from swimmers, as well as their role in military operations, illustrate why we have long felt a special bond with these animals. For those interested in dolphin watching and conservation, there's advice on where to go to find them, how to swim with them, recognizing behavior patterns, and how to help preserve them. 5-0 out of 5 stars Most Educational.
Just as soon as I took delivery of this book, I was aware I had a quality product in my hands. It is a large coffee table book containing 160 pages packed with information and photographs of the highest calibre.

The author's list of credits is impressive by any standards; He is a zoologist who has worked for several conservation projects around the world (including WWF, the United Nations Environment Programme and the World Conservation Union), is the author or co-author of over 30 books on this and similar subjects and is a Consultant to the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society. He also took every single photograph in the book.

As David Bellamy says in his foreword "This is what I like about this superb book. It's not a 'doom and gloom' catalogue of destruction, but a celebration of the magic of Dolphins - and a warning of severe problems to come if we don't change our ways."Says it all really.

I particularly like the way in which the book is laid out. With Chapters headed; Dolphin family, Dolphin design, Sensing the environment, A day in the life of a Dolphin, Research, Mysteries, Dolphins and people, Watching Dolphins and Save the Dolphin, we get an immediate sense that everything you ever wanted to know about the many different aspects of the Dolphin will be found right here in this single book. You will not be disappointed.

Altogether a great book and one which is most educational - even for people like myself who frequently encounter Dolphins as part of their work.

Great service! A good book to read for anyone that feels dolphins, or any marine mammals, should be kept in the wild, not held captive.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lori Marino, PhD
I have studied dolphins and whales for close to twenty years and, without a doubt, this book is the most powerful treatise on the ethics of dolphin captivity I have ever read! Lemieux presents a unique combination of gut-wrenching personal accounts and right-on-target scientific findings. This is a dual-approach that cannot be ignored. She melds authenticity with accurate current scientific information on dolphins in a way that pierces the heart of the matter.Dolphins are self-aware, highly sophisticated beings who do not belong in confinement. I challenge any thinking reader of this book to come away with a different conclusion. Lemieux makes it impossible to do so and, in the process, causes us to look deeper into who we are as a species and ask whether we like what we see. But there is hope and Lemieux's message is, ultimately, positive about the fact that we are, in the end, perfectly capable of changing our behavior to allow dolphins to live life on their own terms. It is up to us.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rekindling the Waters:Informative, Illuminating, Infuriating, Inspiring.
A true relationship with nature requires moving beyond the facile human projections we use to interpret the world in which we live. No easy task given the conditioning of our minds lends itself to such contented oversimplification.Add in our ego-grasping exploitative tendencies, and its no wonder humans are so estranged from the natural world.Leah Lemieux, in Rekindling the Waters, is different. Here is a woman who faces her limitations head on, challenges them, stretches herself, opens herself, redefines herself. She does this through developing a fascinating relationship with a group of captive Bottlenose dolphins in Cuba. She delves into the minds and souls of these keenly intelligent, feeling creatures, earns their trust through a genuine sincerity, dissolves the barrier between human and non-human.She develops an intimate relationship full of intrigue, intense physicality, vibrant energy, and finds herself interwoven in the struggle for functionality of a group of displaced, demeaned, beleaguered, freedom-starved inmates, guilty of nothing but being the focus of a perverse, puerile, wish-fulfillment, 'entertainment' scam - swim with dolphins! The challenge to her humanness is reflected in her use of language, which undulates between factual and poetic prose. In this way she succeeds in informing the reader on matters of dolphin biology, behavior, habitat, culture, and the challenges facing cetaceans globally, while also conveying the emotional intensity of the relationship, existing on the fringe of language and beyond. "Engulfed in their presence - at the dream somehow become real yet again - I shivered with delight. This unexpected, welcoming proximity awoke and stirred great internal tides; sifting, gathering, silently, irrevocably binding essences; paths chosen, promises made, though I did not know it.Yet I was aware, only just, of my emerging part in something vast, sweeping me up with a glorious, cyclonic unfolding of wings."Other highlights include a near lethal episode involving Spinner dolphins and predatory marlins in Hawaii, and well-researched late chapters exploring the character and fabric of sentience/intelligence on Earth, and our relationship with such: socially, economically, ethically.

Book Review: Rekindling the Waters: The Truth About Swimming with Dolphins by Leah Lemieux (2009 Troubador Publishing Ltd., UK, 354 pp)

By Mark J. Palmer
Associate Director
International Marine Mammal Project
Earth Island Institute
Berkeley, CA

Leah Lemieux has written a unique book about one person's close experiences with a group of captive dolphins, and the tragic consequences for those dolphins of their captivity.A manifesto for anti-captivity, Rekindling the Waters is an outspoken and eloquent plea for keeping dolphins wild and free in the oceans where they belong, not in concrete tanks doing stupid tricks for crowds at aquariums.

The first two-thirds of the book chronicle the author's years swimming and interacting with a group of captive bottlenose dolphins in Cuba, and the contrast with wild dolphins.Lemieux's experience with these dolphins, each with individual personalities, is completely unique.Virtually all people who experience dolphins do so only for a short time in an aquarium.Even staff of aquariums do not get to "know" their dolphins, as they spend most of their time trying to "train" the dolphins to do what people want - tricks.Dolphin researchers keep their dolphins at an academic distance, intent on learning specific answers to specific questions.

Lemieux, by contrast, swims with these dolphins on their terms. She takes great pains not to initiate contact, for example, allowing the dolphins to respond in their own time and on their own account. She details their reactions without trying to put a human face on dolphin behavior (although she is not always successful in this). And she spent years with these dolphins, on weeks-long vacations in Cuba where she had unique access to the dolphins and could readily interact with them without requiring them to eat or do tricks or demanding anything of them.

This section of the book is both enlightening and inspirational.Lemieux is lyrical in her discussions of her encounters with these dolphins.Sometimes, her prose gets a bit too purple and "new age" in places, but generally she describes in detail what she saw and felt, and her observations of her dolphin family presents a record few people will ever experience.

The last third is a detailed, documented discussion of the problems with keeping dolphins in captivity. Her experiences in Cuba with the captive dolphins brings her to the realization that the animals, despite have a large salt-water lagoon to live in (much larger by far than the average aquarium tank), cannot behave or live like true wild dolphins, free to swim for miles, feed themselves, and interact with a host of their own family members.

Lemieux outlines the problems of captivity, ranging from the mundane question of adequate nutrition to deeply philosophical questions about keeping such intelligent and unique animals in virtual slavery to serve our baser instincts.

More and more people are questioning the keeping of dolphins in captivity. The last dolphin shows shut down several years ago in the British Isles, while the US aquarium industry, while thriving, has more and more turned away from dolphin shows to please the public, in favor of more education and more unique exhibits of marine life such as jelly fish and coral reefs.

But captive dolphins are still a thriving industry, especially tacky and dangerous "swim with dolphins" programs in vacation resorts that threaten the health and welfare of both dolphin and human participants, mostly in Third World countries with little incentive to implement conservation measures.Indeed, most of the captive dolphins are caught by methods that kill many dolphins, including the horrendous "drive fisheries" in places like Japan and the Solomon Islands, where dolphin traffickers take advantage of local people to pick out "show quality" dolphins - hundreds of others are butchered for the meat market.

Lemieux's Rekindling the Waters is an excellent eye-opening critique of the captive dolphin trade.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must fir anyone who is interested in dolphins, the ocean, and sentient beings other than humans!
This book shares the story of a young woman who becomes enchanted by the magnificent liquid world of dolphins. She makes a connection with four dolphins trapped in a Cuban dolphinarium, and quickly learns that there is much more to their social intelligence than first meets the eye.Through her vivid, poetic descriptions you are brought into the dolphin lagoon to experience this rare connection. You are carried with her on a voyage of discovery to see the dolphins as individuals, then realize they are wrongfully imprisoned by human greed. You are broken against human ignorance and drown in the truth of how evil our actions have been to these sentient beings. You are left understanding there is no question of their intelligence and self-awareness, and that imprisoning them is as morally wrong as denying the freedom of any individual. The book is a must read for anyone who wants to know more about dolphins, is interested in conservation, or is curious about the other conscious beings who share our planet. It will change your prospectives! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This story of a pod of stranded dolphins is gripping and the art work is graceful and touching!
The dolphins were "racing and leaping, chasing a school of fish."They leap through the water and into the air, playing and swimming together as a group. When the oldest dolphin grew tired, she swam into shallow water and beached herself on the sand.Very soon the others followed and lay on the sands beside her.The tide began to ebb and the mother decided to take her baby and go back into the safe haven of the ocean, but "there was not enough water to swim" in.They struggled, but were unable to leave the sandbar.

The sun began to sink in the sky.The dolphins were weak and becoming dehydrated from lying out on the sand under the hot sun for hours. The baby was "sick and dizzy" and his mother was unable to help him and only made "low sounds" when he nudged her.A man paddling by in a kayak realized the dilemma they were in and went for help.People soon began arriving to give aid and comfort to the stranded dolphins. They splashed water on them and gave what comfort they could throughout the night until the tide began to come back in.The sharks began to arrive, hoping to "ambush the weakened dolphins once they tried to swim."Would the rescuers be able to save the baby, his mother and the others?

Any book with the name Jim Arnosky on the cover can be considered to be a sure fire hit with not only the children who browse its pages, but also the adults. The story of the stranded dolphins is gripping and the art work is graceful and touching.Under the author's note, Arnosky briefly talks about the theories as to why whales and dolphins become stranded and mentions that he and his wife Deanna once witnessed one.If you are a dolphin lover, you'll fall in love with this book! ... Product Description
True river dolphins as well as marine dolphins that frequent freshwater systems are large animals that have traditionally gone unnoticed by the general public and, in a certain sense, by marine mammal specialists as well. In fact, only a limited number of researchers have investigated the biology of these dolphin species. This is quite surprising given that these species are commonly the top predators in their habitats. Now for the first time, revolutionary molecular techniques are being applied to answer evolutionary reconstruction questions of many animals, including river dolphins. In addition, new paleontological records are dramatically changing our perspective about the relationships of these dolphins with each other and with other cetaceans. In this book, new census information and important ecological characteristics are provided of the river dolphins Inia, Sotalia, Pontoporia, Lioptes, and Orcaella. For the first time, molecular and genetic results of theses dolphin species are presented. A compilation of these data is essential if we are to present a strategic conservation plan for these animals.Upon being informed of critical evolutionary historical data, conservation biologists will now be able to tailor their conservation efforts for each threatened river dolphin species. Additionally, new morphological data and the new discoveries in the fossil record for river dolphins are examined. The major dolphin specialists in Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia, Argentina, the United States of America, China, and India present their newest results within a single book that graduate students, professors, scientists, evolutionary ecologists, aquatic mammalogists, population ecologists, conservation ecologists, and marine biologists will all find valuable for the foreseeable future. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A read that sticks with you
I read this book years ago and it has stuck with me.Every time I drive past Tampa Bay to visit my family.Every time I see dolphins in or out of captivity. It was very interesting to learn all of the details involved in doing studies, and how much the researchers cared about their subjects. Some of my "Did you Know?" facts are slipping, it's probably time to re-read it.Thank you to Carol Howard for a great read.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dolphin lovers will love this!
I'm a 14 year old girl, and I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I love dolphins, and I wanted to learn more about them without being fed a bunch of information like a textbook. Instead, Dolphin Chronicles presents lots of information in textbook form. By the time you get to the end, you'll have a much greater understanding of dolphin training, their lifestyles in captivity and in the wild, and the life of a person working with dolphins without ever realizing you were even learning anything! It's great that this book can be so easy to read and comprehend with so much info packed inside. I totally recommend it to anyone who would like to understand the dolphin world better!

4-0 out of 5 stars Action-packed Dolphin Rescue
Wayne Grover and his friends once again are boating around off the coast of Florida when they realize their ever present dolphin pod is missing. They have a nasty run in with dolphin poachers but after telling the local police are told they can't do anything about it. Wayne decides he must rescue Baby and his family one way or the other and they get themselves into lots of troubles as they set out to rescue the dolphins from deplorable holding pens off a Bahamian island.

This third book in the series is quite different from the first two. For one it is longer and written at a higher reading level and secondly it is not the sweet, heart touching story of the others. This one involves lots of adventure, a fight in a Bahamian Bar and the men swim for their life as they are shot at. It is a well-written adventure story for children but I must say it was my least favourite of the series. On the other hand, I must tell that it was the 8yo's favourite of the series. He was on the edge of his seat with excitement during the final shoot-out getaway. This one is definitely a "boy" book!

The biology of cetaceans is one of the most compelling areas of research because of the extreme adaptations whales and dolphins have had to undergo in order to manage a life in the water. The fossil record of cetaceans is rich, and though much attention has been given to the origins of whales from terrestrial artiodactyls, it is important to realise that the biology, physiology, and behaviour of modern cetaceans has not remained unchanged since this initial transition to being aquatic. This books discusses and presents new data on the behaviour and biology of whales and dolphins including: the cenozoic environmental changes and evolution of baleen whales, the ecological and evolutionary divergence in whales and dolphins, the parasite fauna of cetaceans, and others. ...
