As I have traveled on the journey of life, I have seen a number of things that defy explanation in terms of the ordinary physical and mental world in which we live. The following are brief descriptions of these phenomena. I would ask that anyone having insight into these phenomena let me know his comments. (E-mail: foundation@mega.bw 1. Existence and Life (No response needed on this one.) The greatest wonder, of course, is existence: spiritual existence (awareness of being), energy, matter, and physical (biological) life, including the creation and development (evolution) of the universe and life on Earth. 2. Megaliths. By the term megaliths I am referring to large ancient stone constructions, such as the Egyptian pyramids and obelisks, Macchu Picchu in Peru, the Coral Castle in Florida, and the Olmec colossal heads of Mexico. Extractions: Visit Spirit-Alembic Introduction Spirit-21 opens the travel section with a trip to Egypt, a place many associate with history and Spirit. This story is told by Tanya Pashkova, a Ukranian woman who met most of the Spirit-21 team on a study travel tour to the U.S. in 1993. A strong friendship developed, and we have remained friends through time in cyberspace. Tanya, when not working at the Kyiv Post, sits atop her suitcase, waiting for Spirit to guide her next adventure. Her story clearly shows Spirit weaving people together through the urges of the traveller. This story started when I browsed www.spirit-alembic.com and clicked on the picture of the Avenue of the Sphinxes .It was a hectic time at the office, putting together the advertising for our Kyiv Business Directory, with deadlines (love that word) to meet. People were screaming and shouting at each other, and papers were flying around, and the atmosphere was one reminiscent of some impending natural disaster. To calm myself down and stop reacting to the office storm, I made the Avenue of Sphinxes the background wallpaper for my desktop. For two weeks I enjoyed the wonderful Sphinx Avenue, and peace came to me. The deadlines passed, and we celebrated the finale at a local nigh club. I did not want to go there without an escort, so my friend, who was also single, accompanied me.

Extractions: Drawings by Cullen Geiselman Last spring, we featured the first article in a three-part series on the places where bats roost. With the focus on plants and trees, we found bat habitat in leaves, branches, trunks, and even bark. But bats can be found roosting in less expected places, including homes made by other animals. In this issue, we will see how bats borrow shelters made by insects, birds, and other mammals. Humans have constructed a wide variety of structures that have proven to be favored homes for bats. Many insect-eating bats roost in attics, barns, or behind window shutters. Sacred Places: Anasazi Sacred Sites sacred places such as the egyptian pyramids, Stonehenge, the that there are sacredplaces of equal Native American tribes, much like other prehistoric societies http://www.arthistory.sbc.edu/sacredplaces/anasazi.html
Extractions: An exploration of how and why places become invested with SACREDNESS and how the SACRED is embodied or made manifest through ART and ARCHITECTURE Most people know of sacred places such as the Egyptian pyramids, Stonehenge, the caves of Lascaux, and the remains of the ancient Aztec and Mayan cultures of South America. However, few realize that there are sacred places of equal importance in North America as well. Native American tribes, much like other prehistoric societies, viewed certain sites as sacred, and some have been embellished just as extensively as their more famous counterparts in Europe, North Africa, and South America. In the Western United States, an ancient people known as the Anasazi created a civilization that stretched from New Mexico and Arizona to Utah. Anasazi is a Navajo name meaning "Ancient Ones" or "Ancient Enemy". A more recent term used to more accurately describe them is Ancestral Pueblo People. However, the term Anasazi is more widely known and accepted, and thus will be used for the purposes of this page. During the Classic Pueblo period (c.1000-1300 A.D.), the Anasazi culture reached its peak in pottery, weaving, and architecture. They disappeared around the year 1300 A.D. - all that remains of their culture are their dwellings and the few clues remaining there. The reason for their disappearance is unknown, although many attribute their demise to drought, the invasion of another tribe, or even factions among the Anasazi themselves. However, some modern pueblo tribes, such as the Zuni and the Hopi, attribute their origins to the "ancient ones".

Delebo on ''face-to-face'' programme of Ethiopian Television (ETV), Jean Doresse's books were frequently refered to by the latter. Inspired by this Ato Akalu W. Mariam took the opportunity during his recent visit to France to find J. Doresse in his house in Fayance, about 926 km from Paris, and conduct an interview with him. J. Doresse, 85, is a renowned historian specializing on Egyptian and Ethiopian history. He had published a number of books on ancient and medieval history of Ethiopia including ''Ethiopia under the Kingdom of Queen of the Sheba'' and ''The Prester John of Ethiopia''. J. Doresse, who has spent much of his life time in Ethiopia, pioneered the French Archaeological study on Ethiopia and the center for the Ethio-French studies. He was also Editor-in-chief of the first French newspaper in Ethiopia "L'Ethiopie d'Aujourd'hui". J. Doresse is currently writing a book on the people of southern Ethiopia. He lives in Fayance, France, with his Ethiopian wife and his Ethiopian adopted son. Following are excerpts from the interview. Would you make a comparison between ancient Greece, Egypt and Ethiopia? How ancient are these countries?

Extractions: Over the years, there were quite a few journeys which I almost made. This is a selective list of some of the more interesting destinations, and clues as to why they didn't take place. Of course, many other places nearly featured on this list. I have tried to be as fair as possible and only include places where I genuinely thought I would go. Lagos was a city I nearly got to visit on a couple of occasions, and it could have been quite exciting there. As it turned out, the company for which I would have done some consultancy decided to send some of their staff to Great Britain instead. This happened on two separate occasions. Another time, we decided not to quote for some work after careful consideration. One major problem with all work in Nigeria is that of Foreign exchange, and the question whether anybody will ever get paid in a useful currency. Malta might have been fun too, but again the problem was that the prospective hosts decided to send their staff to Great Britain instead. Even so, these people do make useful contacts, and I may follow them up one day anyhow. We had also considered a routing via Malta with Air Malta for a holiday, but it was cancelled when my wife became pregnant.
Extractions: Giza is situated on the west bank of the Nile. Giza known for its pyramids, that is one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, and despite the crowds that visit every year, they are still a truly overwhelming sight. These majestic and ancient pyramids have survived the rise and fall of great dynasties and conquerors, and share the flat desert surrounds with the Sphinx and a number of smaller pyramids and temples. Luxor Temple was built by Pharaoh Amenhotep III (1390-1352 BC), on the site of an older temple built by Hatshepsut and added to by Tutankhamun, Ramses II, Nectanebo, Alexander the Great and various Romans. Excavation work has been under way since 1885. The main place of worship in ancient Theban times were the Temples of Karnak that were spectacular series of monuments. These temples are divided into the Amun Temple Enclosure, which is the largest; the Mut Temple Enclosure on the south side; and the Montu Temple Enclosure.

Extractions: TM Celebrate Passover in Israel By Madelyn Miller Now is a good time to begin your plans for the holiday that symbolizes freedom. Celebrated every year and never forgotten, the Jewish holiday, Passover (Pesach in Hebrew) refers to the exodus of the Israelites from the land of Egypt during Biblical times. First enslaved by the Egyptians and then threatened with having all Israelite males under a year killed, the Israelites escaped in an age-old tale of the parting of the Red Sea. This celebration of the exodus is an event of freedom, one that continues to hold true, even today. It is an event that is celebrated by Jews around the world. When the time came for the Israelites to leave Egypt, the Israelites left in such a haste, not even waiting for the bread to rise. As part of present-day Passover, the Jews do not eat anything made with flour throughout the seven-day celebration, instead choosing to eat matzoh , or hard crackers.
