As a young child, Keith was curious when the first televisions began to appear, and also fascinated by the beginnings of space exploration. He was inspired by his grade 5 teacher, who encouraged his curiosity, and let him join the grade 6's for math and science lessons. By grade 7, Keith was telling people he was going to be a physicist. When he was in secondary school, he went to a two-week summer science and math camp at a nearby university, where he was able to do experiments and learn about all the sciences. The next summer, Keith was allowed to do research at the camp, and by the end of that summer, he was hooked on science! While Keith never did become a physicist, he got university degrees in both math and chemistry, and went on to earn a Ph.D. in Chemistry. That means he studied science at university for at least 6 years! He loved it so much, that he decided to become a chemistry professor at the University of Texas.

The Break-Junctions consist simply of two wires or other pieces of the investigated material touching each other. The mount has to be flexible enough to allow minor vibrations to open this contact. Extractions: Our research can be divided into the following categories: (1) Development of 3-D optical and electronic circuits including those with information processing bandwidths exceeding 100 gigahertz; (2) Development of new nanostructured materials capable of 3-D spatial control of energy, charge, and material transport; (3) Development of single wall carbon nanotube actuators (artificial muscles); and (4) Development of new techniques of femtosecond nonlinear optical spectroscopy. p -electron molecules by statistical mechanical/molecular dynamical methods. The first 200 steps show the results for the molecules in a poling field uninfluenced by intermolecular electrostatic interactions. The last 200 steps show the effects of turning on intermolecular electrostatic interactions. Such interactions greatly attenuate the acentric order achieved by electric field poling and thus limit realizable electro-optic activity. Other calculations show that this effect can be minimized by control of molecular shape. Dendrimer structures prove particularly effective in maximizing macroscopic material electro-optic activity. Our theory is also useful to understanding a number of other new phenomena such as thresholdless antiferroelectric liquid crystal behavior.

The build up of thin layers comprised of enzymes and redox polyelectrolytes by electrostatic adsorption self-assembly of supramolecular structures leads to molecular recognition surfaces, where the bio-molecules are "wired" to the electrode. We develop molecular transistors and nanotransistors of polyaniline modified by self-assembled recognition layers and integrated in hybrid circuits.
